In this episode of Double Tap, Steven Scott and Shaun Preece kick off with excitement about CSUN 2024 and the latest developments in accessible technology. Allison Sheridan, the host of the NosillaCast podcast, also joins them to share her insights from the event. The episode starts with a significant announcement from Aira, introducing new AI features aimed at enhancing accessibility for the visually impaired. The discussion highlights the Access AI feature from Aira, which combines AI with human verification to provide detailed descriptions of images for users. Also, the guys discuss the announcement of new devices by Orbit Research, specifically the Orbit Reader Q40 and Q20, which feature QWERTY keyboards and are designed to make Braille more accessible and affordable. Despite the excitement, there's skepticism regarding the actual availability of these products, given Orbit's history with delays. Allison Sheridan then shares her passion for incorporating accessibility into mainstream tech discussions. She recounts her learning about accessibility, including teaching herself voiceover and advocating for accessible app design. Allison's anticipation for CSUN centres on exploring innovative solutions across various aspects of accessibility, not just for those who are blind or partially sighted but for all disabilities. Her story of attempting a tech talk blindfolded and her efforts to promote image descriptions in social media highlight her commitment to making technology inclusive. The braille community is buzzing about the next generation of braille display: multi-line devices which can show anything from tables to tactile graphics at the press of a button are now a reality, and enthusiastic early adopters around the world are putting the technology through its paces. These multi-line braille displays will, sooner or later, undoubtedly disrupt all our experiences of refreshable braille in many places, but perhaps most notably in education. What does this mean for teachers, and what does this mean for students in the classroom, doing their homework and progressing to further and higher education? We'll be digging into the detail in two parts: Firstly, we will hear from HumanWare, Bristol Braille Technology CIC, Dot Inc and Orbit Research, all of whom are developing multi-line braille displays, and each of whom will give a ten minute presentation on how they see their products working in the classroom. Secondly, we'll hear from a panel of education professionals. They will share their reactions to the presentations, discuss how current practice might evolve to take advantage of emerging braille technologies, and engage with the manufacturers to find answers to some of their most pressing questions. This episode is presented in collaboration with the Professional Association for the Vision Impairment Education Workforce (VIEW). Manufacturers, their Products and Representatives HumanWare, promoting the Monarch: Andrew Flatres, Braille Product Manager, and Peter Tucic, Director of Strategic Partnerships Bristol Braille Technology CIC, promoting Canute 360 (£2495.00) and Canute Console (£3995 or £1650 for existing Canute 360 owners): Ed Rogers, Managing Director Dot Inc, promoting the Dot Pad (£11995): Mazi Zarrehparvar Orbit Research, promoting the Orbit Slate 520 ($3495 USD) and the Orbit Slate 340 ($3995 USD): Venkatesh Chari, CEO Panellists Jane Sharp, Education Specialist QTVI at RNIB and Chair of the Visual Impairment Education Workforce (VIEW) Jonathan Fogg, Strategic Lead for IT at New College Worcester Jackie Brown, Technology For Life Co-Ordinator for Northern Ireland at RNIB The event was hosted by Dave Williams and produced by Matthew Horspool. Extracts from the Chat What are the dimentions of the Dot Pad please? Participant: 273.2 mm × 228.1 mm Mazi: 20 braille cells per line and 10 lines on the large screen. 20 cells on single line below graphics area. Dot Pad pricing is not fixed but our goals is to make the Dotpad economically accessible. Can you send information from the dot pad back to an iPad? Mazi: We are working on two way interaction between the Dot Pad and connected devices. At this time, the Dot Pad is a printer. It receives content from the iPad, iPhone, PC, or Mac. It is interactive in the sense that you can scroll up and down pages and make selections. You can also scroll across icons showing on your iPhone or iPad. If you would like more information, please be comfortable contacting me. We are rapidly innovating and all ideas and advice is welcome. Do the graphical devices allow a tactile diagram and a braille label on the same page? Ed: Yes. You can mix them up. We typically use a lot of Braille to make sense of the diagrams. For the Canute Console, that was. Andrew: For Monarch, Yes, it can display both graphics and braille on the same array. I'd be very interested to know if manufacturers were intending to (or have) produce progression charts/teaching ideas for supporting student development of skills in using these products? We can't afford to have one for us to learn on as well as one for the student, so any help on how to use them effectively and to think about skills progression is really helpful! Andrew: HumanWare appreciates there is a lot to learn when it comes to these types of new technology, therefore before Monarch will be released we will be conducting in-person teachers training across the UK. The objective will be to show how a Monarch could be used in a classroom along with getting a better understanding on this new ebraille file format. Please register your interest so you can stay updated on when these days become available. Participant: I am familiar with human wear products and they have a fantastic set of training videos for all of their devices. These are easily accessible for LSAs and BSAs as well as teachers. Would the Dot Pad be useful for a student taking physics at advanced level (up to university)? Rendering the visual data effectively has been a constant struggle/ongoing question. Mazi: Dot would love to work with you on your content and progression idea. YES, physics is an ideal subject matter for the Dot Pad. Participant: That's great to hear. I have a student applying for Physics at university this year, and this might be helpful for his Disabled Students Allowance application. Mazi: Wonderful. Exciting to know your student is going for it. Let's connect and set up a call to figure out how to help your student. What is a simple device for early years children instead of Perkins Brailler? Matthew (Braillists): The Perkins is still the best device for the job in our experience. Ed: Using the Canute Console in the basic text editing mode I demonstrated would be closest equivalent experience for our display. However as Matthew says the Perkins hasn't been superceded by any of these devices and they aren't meant as replacements for it. Participant: Unfortunately, for a 4 year old with small hands and not have the strength may impact their development Ed: In that case, pairing a multiline display with a Hable One or an Orbit Writer, be that a Canute Console or any multiline display that supports external keyboards, would be something to experiment with. Venkatesh: The Orbit single-line and multiline displays include an ergonomic Perkins-style braille keypad. The keys require very little force and would be suitable for a young child. Participant: Thank Venkatesh, I need to view this to understand if its suitable for my CYPVI Venkatesh: You are welcome. Please feel free to email me and we can work out a demo. Louise Johnson: The Annie Brailler is especially for young children. We will be purchasing two and I am happy to let you know how we get on. How do you distinguish colour? Textures? We need to teach students to read diagrams the way they will be presented in exams. Ed: Explaining our solution is a bit much to fit into the chat box but happy to tell you about the solutions we use and are experimenting with by email. In short though, with a display 40 cells wide you have space for a key along side every image if you need it and the image can include information about colour and other style information. That is one solution suitable for some circumstances. Participant: In terms of development of these products, it's worth remembering that there are a significant number of learners who are not braillists but still need tactile diagrams. Is it easy to create a table? Ed: Very easy to create a table for the Canute Console. You can use a spreadsheet or a text editor or generate a tables using conversion software. Will Monarch run on an up to date Android system? BNT+ is Oreo which no longer receives security patches. (Happy to hear if this is not the case!) Monarch will be based on Android, but will not have access to the play store, therefore it would be more capable of updating security. It should not be the case of being stuck. Does the Monarch come with Windows applications (Word, PowerPoint) and email? The Monarch will include KeySoft core application including word processor, email client and many more.
On this Friday, January 19, 2024, Steven and Shaun dive into a weekly roundup of tech and accessibility news, discussions and interviews. In today's episode, Steven and Shaun are buzzing with excitement over the plethora of news hitting the tech world. They discuss the recent Samsung Unpacked event, which, despite not usually capturing Steven's attention, brought some intriguing features to the table. Shaun, on the other hand, is particularly fascinated by the AI capabilities and live translation features announced. Special guest Sallih Kunduz from the Accessible Android website and podcast joins the show to give his expert take on the Samsung announcements. Salih emphasizes the significance of AI in the new Galaxy S24 series and the potential for enhanced accessibility through live transcription and translation during phone calls. The conversation then shifts to Orbit Research and their elusive OrbitSpeak product. Steven shares updates on the anticipated release, expressing cautious optimism due to previous delays. The hosts also touch upon the unfortunate delay of the Optima Braille laptop, promising to delve deeper into the reasons with Adi Kushner in a future episode. Another highlight of the show is the introduction of the Inside One Braille tablet by a French company. This Windows-running device aims to revolutionize the Braille note-taking experience with its touch-sensitive screen and Perkins-style keyboard overlay. Eric Roche from Inside One gives listeners an in-depth look at the tablet's features, design, and potential for inclusion in educational and professional settings. Lastly, Steven and Shaun discuss the rumours about a paid subscription model for Amazon's voice assistant, Alexa. The below is a direct quote from Adi's email: “It has been a long time dream for many of us to change the landscape of assistive technologies produced for blind and visually impaired people. We want to get products that are truly innovative, match the 21st century, always connected, and upgradable. Products that really return the best value for the prices we all pay as consumers, instead of having products that rely on legacy technology, which are not driven by us, the users, they are mostly driven by various business decisions that do not always match our expectations. Some of this technology, in its current form, limits us when we want to grow further, to get a job, to have a professional degree, etc. It has been a long time issue that was bothering Adi Kushnir, an Israeli blind assistive technology user and developer, since he couldn't find the best device for him to use for his personal and professional life. Adi approached Venkatesh Chari, and together, with Orbit Research's strong engineering capabilities and Adi's knowledge of the industry and strong product vision, the duo have decided to build AccessMind, a company that will re-define the assistive technology landscape by producing products that combine the latest mainstream approaches, while keeping our specialized accessibility needs, strongly in mind. IN this presentation, we will learn about the companies first product, the Optima Braille laptop computer, that is going to introduce something new and fresh to the all-in-one Braille device industry, currently dominated by products that are traditionally called notetakers.” Presenter Contact Info 1. From the 2023 NFB Convention Floor, Blind Abilities podcast host Simon Bonenfant talked with Orbit Research CEO Venkatesh Chari and Adi Kushner, CEO of AccessMind. Venkatesh first gives listeners an overview of the products Orbit research has produced in the past such as the Orbit Reader 20 and 40 cell braille displays, talking graphing calculators, iBill Currency Reader, Orbit Writer, etc. While this interview mainly focuses on the two new products from Orbit Research, you can check out the full list of product offerings on their Website The first new product from Orbit Research scheduled to be released this year is called Orbit Speak. From the Orbit Research website: “The Orbit Speak is equipped with features of a modern braille notetaker with a braille keyboard and synthesized speech output in a compact, pocket-sized device.” To learn more and pre-order your Orbit Speak today, visit its Product Page The second product discussed is the latest offering from Orbit Research in conjunction with AccessMind, called the Optima. This all-in-one braille laptop offers a 40-cell braille display with a qwerty keyboard, and the power of the fully featured Windows 11. Today on the show, Steven and Shaun are joined by Michael Babcock and Damshe Thomas, from AT Guys, to talk about their experiences of both the NFB and ACB conventions they visited this week. We also discuss some of the tech they got hands-on with, including the new Orbit Speak from Orbit Research; and find out about some of the interesting companies displaying their wares, including Blind Girl Designs and IRIE-AT. Michael also got the chance to catch up with Sam from the popular YouTube channel The Blind Life, and found out how Sam makes the channel possible. Plus, Grace Scoffield joins us for a review of the week's news in accessible tech. Focused mainly on the big announcements from the conventions, Grace also looks at the latest news from Twitter and the emerging rival called Threads from Meta, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram. We are excited to have the opportunity to make the initial presentation about the Orbit Speak on TekTalk. For those of us who remember the excitement of using our first speech based notetaker those many years ago, that time has come again. The Orbit Speak is a Braille bluetooth keyboard notetaker, book reader, and personal manager equipped with Google voices. It brings all of the power of the Orbit Reader 20 Plus, including forward and back Braille translation without the Braille display at an affordable price. We will describe the layout of the device and demonstrate a number of its powerful features, while also describing the two different models that will be available. Since the release and shipping date is still between 3 and 4 months away, there is still some fine tuning to do, but the unit is in operating condition and we are thrilled to be in the final pre-production stage of a much anticipated release. Of course, we will leave sufficient time for questions. Presenter Contact Info Barry Scheur GuideLights And Gadgets, Inc. Today on the show, we revisit a conversation we had with Venkatesh Chari, the CEO of Orbit Research, who told us earlier this year about some of the new products coming out from the company between now and 2024. As we are fast approaching the date when the new Orbit Speak is due to appear on sale, we thought it would be a good time to revisit the chat. Also, we have more of your feedback, including a question from listener M who asks what is the best Mac to buy for someone who is totally blind, and Lena writes in to help Negative Julian out on his needle threading challenges. We also hear from Shahzad, who questions Steven's buying choices recently and asks Shaun to intervene.
Today on the show, Steven and Shaun discuss two big new tech stories, one about an app called Petey that enables the popular GPT chatbot on your iPhone and Apple Watch. It's got new features, including the ability to integrate with Apple Music and more. Also, there's news of a new function to boost dialogue in selected Amazon Original TV and movies. Plus there's more of your feedback, in particular following our episode on the AI dilemma, and on the state of accessibility in app design and thoughts on the new Braille laptop coming next year from Orbit Research and Access Mind. As always, we love getting your feedback. Email us at feedback@doubletaponair.com or call 1-877-803-4567 and leave us a voicemail. You can also find us across social media @DoubleTapOnAir.
Today on the show, Steven and Shaun are joined by Adi Kushnir, the man behind the company Access Mind, which has partnered with Orbit Research to build the Optima Braille Laptop. It's a Windows-based system running the latest hardware and is customizable to your needs and contains a laptop-style QWERTY keyboard and a 40-cell Braille display. Adi has spent his career building and developing new technologies to advance people who are blind through education into the workplace and believes a different approach is needed to ensure our success long term. It's an interesting and thought-provoking conversation and we cannot wait to hear your thoughts on it. Today on the show, Steven and Shaun discuss some of the big news stories coming out of CSUN's big assistive technology conference taking place in California. There's lots of excitement around the announcement from Orbit Research, who have partnered with AccesMind, to produce a new type of computer for blind people with a QWERTY keyboard and 40-cell Braille display built in. It's called the Optima and is completely configurable before and after purchase. It's likely to be Steven's next computer but will it be his last? Also, there's even more excitement around ChatGPT than usual following Open AI's announcement of the upgrade to version 4, which lets users scan images and get results from them. For example, being able to take a picture of the contents of your fridge and then have Open AI offer you a recipe of what you could make with those contents. The blind community is equally excited as Open AI has partnered with the popular app Be My Eyes to create a new Virtual Assistant in the app, allowing you to check the colour and design of a piece of clothing, up to searching a menu for specific things. And they're not alone. Envision AI is also showing off at CSUN this year their new feature upgrade coming soon that will embed ChaptGPT capabilities into their smart glasses. All this news and more plus your feedback on today's busy show. Email us with your feedback - email feedback@doubletaponair.com or call 1-877-803-4567 and leave us a voicemail. The Weekend Edition of Double Tap brings Marc Aflalo back to the show alongside Steven Scott to discuss the week's big mainstream news tech headlines.Today the guys discuss Lenovo's big announcement of new glasses called the T1 that place a giant monitor in front of your face just by wearing them. Plus they announce the new X1 Fold - a 16-inch laptop that folds in half. And there's also a new Chromebook that offers real power for a low price. Also in the news this week there's the story of USB 4 being made available soon. The new standard will offer up to 80gb/s compared to it's predecessor USB 3 which offered half those speeds of transfer. And of course there's lots of chat ahead of Apple's big event on Sept 7th. We'll have full coverage straight after the event on Thursday's episode of Double Tap on AMI-audio and on podcast.Keep your feedback coming by emailing feedback@ami.ca or call and leave us a voicemail on 1-877-803-4567.
First, Steven wants to tell us all about a new tech gadget he's got his sights on. It's not at all accessible, it's expensive and it's complete tech overkill. We're talking about the Revolution Cooking R180 High-Speed Two-Slice Stainless Steel Smart Toaster. Has Steven finally lost his mind?Next up, Shaun has some explaining to do after listeners noticed a problem with last week's podcast. But were the audio gremlins due to incompetence or was it sabotage? Then it's on to some exciting news from Orbit Research. They have announced a new product called the Orbit Slate. This is a Braille display with a difference, as it features not just one line of Braille cells but multiple lines. Although there is not a lot of information regarding availability and pricing, there's no denying that Orbit are really shaking up the world of Braille. HumanWare have also announced a new product this week called the Stellar Trek. This GPS device features two cameras that are capable of detecting and directing users to doors and building entrances. Could this be a must-have device for mobility or are apps such as Google Maps or Apple Maps all we need? And finally, there is some amazing news from Aira. In their ongoing mission to get the Aira service available to everyone, they have announced a new desktop app for Windows and Mac. But that's not all. They have also announced that Aira will be available on the BlindShell Classic 2 phone shortly. But wait, that's still not all. They also unveiled that Aira will be available on the ARX Wearable hardware. This means that, for the first time, we will be able to use Aira without having to take out our smartphones and hold them out in front of us. The ARX Wearable features a bone conduction headset with a built-in camera which Aira agents can use to assist customers. Exciting stuff, and there was also a mention that a further announcement will be made in August regarding the Envision Glasses! We can't wait to get our hands and faces on these wearables to test them out."
It's a big week for tech announcements thanks to the conventions going on in the USA run by the American Council of the Blind and the National Federation of the Blind. So far we have heard announcements from Orbit Research telling us a new Slate family will be launching soon of multi-line braille displays. Also a new product is due to be launched from Humanware called the Stellar Trek, a brand new device that we will talk about later in the podcast feed in more depth. But today's main topic and focus is the big news from Vespero, the company behind the JAWS screen reader. Over the weekend they dropped the first ever ARM version of the software for newer laptops coming soon with ARM processors as opposed to Intel processors, similar to the way Apple has moved into M1 as its main processor on board its tech moving away from Intel. But what does JAWS feel like on such an architecture and how does it perform? Listener Aaron from Cumbria got in touch to share his views after testing it out. Blind Bargains Audio: Featuring the BB Qast, Technology news, Interviews, and more
Last summer Lisa spoke to Venkatesh Chari, CEO and President of Orbit Research, during our ACB interview coverage. That interview noted some welcome changes that had come to the Orbit Reader 20 regarding upgrading the unit from the SD card slot. In November, Orbit Research released a chat app for the deaf-blind. And this month, as the doors opened to the CSUN Exhibit Hall floor, the company announced several new products and an update to the original Orbit Reader. J.J. snuck into that same Exhibit Hall before the crowds arrived in order to talk to Venkatesh about the new products, their pricing and more details about the status of the Graphiti display. To learn more about Orbit Research, or purchase any of the products mentioned in this interview, visit the company's website CSUN 2020 coverage is Brought to you by AFB AccessWorld. BBQ 194 Was the last time we rolled through a proper news section. We thought it was time for it to emerge from the shadows this week. Plus, to continue with the idea of a traditional format show, J.J. demos the Blind Shell Phone. A tip, several emails in Sound Off and fun audio treats are waiting for you at the end of the episode. It s a return to yesteryear for the team in 198. Guys product page Tip: iOS 13 Low Data Mode Low power mode can help you out of a jam when your battery is in those smaller percentage numbers. In iOS 13 the same idea can be applied to your data plan as Low Data Mode will let you conserve your precious megabytes when you start approaching the high end of the data cap allowed. Simply visit Settings, Cellular Data Options and explore the section labeled "Low Data Mode" to activate this tool. Sound Off: David Partrick starts us off with this question. "Greetings. I have heard Joe talk about his experience with the Surface Go. I now find myself in possession of one, and I am looking to find a way to use it. It came with a third party cover and keyboard. It s nice, and small, and I can type on it, but, I cannot get the function keys to work with either JAWS or Narrator. The Function modifier key appears to be ignored. I am wondering what keyboard Joe is using, and, if the folding keyboard Joe and JJ talked about on a recent BBQ would be a good match for the Surface Go. Thanks in advance. David" The Pluggable Keyboard is the one Joe was using in that episode. You will still need to seek out a case to protect the Surface's screen if you plan to travel with the device. Georgia has some insight about a previous show. "Hi J.J., Please have dean back on blind bargains. I was glad to hear about his chrome book coing out. Pizza with potatoes on it, and pizza with sweet potatoes. Pineapple, oh yes had it many times. It is good as well. The show notes--are they on the app? I could not find them. Having trouble getting to the bargains part of the app. Like the tips also. Do you put them in the notes? I am going to see if I can find those notes. Georgia kitchen" Greg Portch writes in with this question... "Hi, Joe was talking about older devices. Is an iphone 6s or Se fast enough for ios 13 if you are a voice over user I mean will the phone be sluggish, not asking about the current bugs in 13. Thanks, /Greg We haven't had time, what with all the Apple updates for 13 lately, to put the 6s through testing. But we've seen others say that it isnt horible. Probably not desireable for the long haul however. Next, Richard writes in with this comment. "The two of you talking over and or interrupting Constqantly makes listening to your pod cast extremely cringing! I started counting and perhaps every 5 seconds one or the other does a talk over so that neither ones comment can be understood. Check it out and perhaps you will see just how irritating this is to a person trying to listen to every word spoken. Nuff said and hope I don t have to type to you again." We posted this email because we like to be transparent about our craft and we do appreciate all remarks about our show. Podcasting is like cooking. A recipe can change according to the talent and background of the person, or people, cooking the ingredients. We never set out to conform to the NPR style or the bombastic over the top formats of morning radio or sports talk programs. Our idea, as it has been for almost a decade, is to make the listener feel like they were smack dab in the middle of a group discussion at a major convention. Technical limitations, such as the delay in voices traveling back and forth through the internet, also play a role in how tight we edited our vocal tracks. Over the years we ve managed to turn those delays into seamless conversation, however as noted by the email above, we recognize that not everyone likes this dialog flow. That is why we try to post our companion show notes in broadcast order for those who don t want to listen to the entire episode. Our audience can skip directly to the portion of the show that interests them by using our notes as a guide. Or, by design, they can just read the notes instead of listening to the show if they prefer. Over hundreds of recorded hours of us blathering on at one another about stuff, we re most proud of our consistency in tone and sound. We experiment with our format, our focus and formula from time to time. But our style is what we believe sets us apart from others in the field of podcasting. We have the amazing Patrick perdue to thank for all of this as he has been the bedrock of this audio endeavor. And by no means do we diminish his accomplishments out of fear that he has the power to make us look like idiots with the flick of an editorial finger. Nope, no worries at all about that end of year out takes. Episode. Shudder Last Word: The upcoming holidays have us thinking about travel and these two links seemed to fit that mindset. #circuitpython #braille #madewithmu https://www.orbitresearch.com/product/orbit-reader-20/ Starting to hack around with a Python REPL, CircuitPython serial with Mu with the Orbit Reader 20 from Orbit Research. The goal/idea is, we have a real-time REPL in Python / serial with CircuitPython / terminal on-device ... so I thought we'd be able to output that to a braille reader. This is the start, using Mu and showing what's going on with the PyPortal Orbit Reader 20 – Braille Display, Book Reader and Note-taker. Includes an SD Card, Charger and a USB cable. The Orbit Reader 20 is the world’s most affordable Refreshable Braille Display. It is a unique 3-in-1 device and serves as a self-contained book reader, a note-taker and as a braille display by connecting to a computer or smartphone via USB or Bluetooth. Equipped with a 20-cell 8-dot display, the Orbit Reader 20 is based on revolutionary braille cell technology developed by Orbit Research. The breakthrough technology uses mainstream components and manufacturing processes to enable unique signage-quality refreshable braille at a fraction of the cost of the piezoelectric technology that has been used in braille cells so far. When used as a standalone reader, it enables the user to read any file from the SD card. These could be BRF and BRL formatted books, text files or files in any format. This allows students, especially in developing countries, to have content loaded on to the SD card by teachers and use the unit without any live connectivity to a computer or the internet. The reader has features for easy navigation, inserting and editing bookmarks, browsing through folders, etc. As a braille display, the Orbit Reader connects to PCs and Macs, iOS devices and Android devices. It provides Bluetooth and USB connectivity and can connect simultaneously to multiple devices. Using the screen reading capability on the computing device, such as Voiceover, Brailleback or popular PC screen readers the user can control the functions of their computer or smartphone, use their favorite apps, read and send text messages and email and browse the internet. As a note-taker, the Orbit Reader offers all essential file creation and editing functions. A user can create new files, save them on SD card and edit existing files. The Orbit Reader also includes file management features, allowing the user to rename, delete, copy, and create folders and files. The device is inherently language independent and prompts and menus can be easily localized for different geographies. While it offers a host of features, the Orbit Reader 20 is extremely easy to use and allows seamless and instantaneous switching between reader, note-taker and braille display modes, as well as selection between connected devices such as a computer or phone. The Orbit Reader 20 is very compact, measuring a little over an inch in height and about 6 inches by 4 inches and weighing under a pound. It includes a high-quality Perkins style keyboard with 8 keys and a space bar. It also has a cursor pad with 4 arrow keys and a select button, as well as rocker keys on each side of the braille display to control navigation. On the back of the unit is a recess in which are located an SD Card slot, a USB Micro B socket and a power button. The unit is powered by a user-replaceable fast-charging lithium battery which is recharged through the USB port. It is fluid and dust resistant and its construction is optimized for durability in extreme environmental conditions. Unique signage-quality Braille 20 eight-dot refreshable Braille cells Book-reader mode – read your favorite books and files from SD card Note-taker mode – takes notes and edit files Braille-display mode – connects to computers and mobile devices over USB and Bluetooth Use stand-alone or connected to a computer or mobile device Works with all popular screen readers on Windows, Mac OS, iOS, and Android Read and send messages and emails Browse the internet Control your computer or smart phone Visit the Adafruit shop online - http://www.adafruit.com ----------------------------------------- LIVE CHAT IS HERE! http://adafru.it/discord Adafruit on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/adafruit Subscribe to Adafruit on YouTube: http://adafru.it/subscribe New tutorials on the Adafruit Learning System: http://learn.adafruit.com/ -----------------------------------------
