At the beginning of August, Trump took to social media and informed the world he had instructed the Department of Commerce to immediately begin work on “a new and highly accurate CENSUS based on modern day facts and figures and, importantly, using the results and information gained from the Presidential Election of 2024.” Most notably, he wrote, “People who are in our Country illegally WILL NOT BE COUNTED IN THE CENSUS.” If Trump has his way, it will have significant repercussions on how Congressional districts could be drawn, even as Texas leads the pack and has already approved a new congressional map – leading to a very public walkout by Texas Senate Democrats and CA Gov Gavin Newsom's retaliatory threat to redraw California's congressional map. There's also a SCOTUS angle here, as the Supreme Court squashed the citizenship question pertaining to the 2020 census when it came up in 2019. Now, CRC has learned that some hefty lefty funding is going into an effort to push a narrative on the census that runs counter to the Trump administration's and is designed to last for the next 10 years to cover the 2030 census. President Trump says he doesn't want illegal immigrants to be counted by US census  President Donald Trump this morning says he is instructing the Department of Commerce to work on a new census... using results and information learned from the 2024 Presidential Election.  He made the announcement on Truth Social ... saying people who are in the country illegally should not be counted in the new numbers. Greg and Holly dive into the history of the census and what can be done legally with this.     New tariffs now in effect  After weeks of discussion and adjusting the numbers, President Donald Trump's tariffs took effect just after midnight last night. More than ninety countries are affected by these tariffs, and this could cause a major hiccup on international trade with the U.S.  We discuss some of the impacts consumers might feel with their grocery bill and their technology after a last-minute tariff of 100% on semiconductor chips right before the deadline yesterday. Greg and Holly discuss the new tariffs and how semiconductor chips production in the US could benefit Utah.      Municipal Elections in Utah: How to ensure your ballot gets counted with new deadline changes  Election day for municipal primaries is August 12th, and there have been some changes that Utah voters should know about that could impact whether or not voters ballots get counted if they are voting by mail. Shelly Jackson, Deputy Director of Elections in Utah, joins the conversation and illuminates some factors voters should know before sending their vote or using a local drop box.     SLC man accused of chasing, attacking 12-year-old after door-bell ditching  Doorbell ditching - is it a harmless prank? For one Utah 12-year-old it wasn't so harmless… as he was chased down, and according to police, kidnapped and assaulted. The man held the boy until he handed the boy over to his parents at a local gas station.  That man, Tony Arnold Bernstone, is facing charges of child kidnapping and abuse. Greg goes into the legal ramifications of this man's actions and how the case will proceed from here.     Utah judge to decide if lawsuit against Utah’s Transgender Athlete Ban can proceed  A Utah judge will decide by the end of this month if a lawsuit against Utah's transgender athlete ban can proceed. The case is challenging a 2022 Utah law, but a recent Supreme Court ruling, plus an executive order from the president might upend the suit. Greg and Holly discuss the future of the ban.     Backpacks & budgets: The price of back-to-school supplies in 2025  It's that time of the year again, to take your student back to school...and your wallet as well. KSL-TV Investigative team puts the retailers to the test in an investigation on the costs of going back to school. Where should parents go if they are looking to save? Sloan Schrage, KSL Investigative Producer, joins us in the studio with the results.     The Logan trail dispute  Who owns the trail? In Logan, a years-long dispute is going to be going to court as the city takes action to sue private property owners. Logan City Council voted Tuesday to set aside $150,000 for legal fees for the lawsuit. Greg and Holly discuss the situation.     Utah Democrats stand behind Texas Democrat exodus  Texas Democrats have left Texas in protest of new congressional maps that heavily skew the state towards the GOP. The exodus has caused major delays in passing the proposed map because they do not have enough lawmakers for a quorum. Governor Abbott has called for the civil arrest of democrats who have "neglected" their duties, and most recently. The FBI has agreed to help track down lawmakers outside Texas.  We hear from a local leader Utah Senate Minority Leader, Luz Escamilla who is voicing support for those who fled.     Women in the workforce: Why women are leaving work + the STEM surge for women in Utah  A startling two-hundred-twelve thousand women have left the workforce since January according to the most recent job report. It is believed that it's due to a rollback in flexibility in 2025 in a large scale as President Donald Trump changed the workforce and ordered federal employees to be in office five days a week. We go into the details of how these changes in the workforce, alongside companies trimming their benefits, is making it harder for working women to make it work. On the bright side, The Utah Women & Leadership Project has released their new research snapshot and it's showing that Utah is a top job market in the nation for women in STEM-related careers, but there are significant gaps in K-12 education and workforce representation. Kolene Anderson, Utah Women & Leadership Project Associate Director, bring Greg and Holly in on the research they found in the report.     The concern around pharmaceutical tariffs  President Donald Trump, along with other high tariffs, have said that pharma tariffs would start small but could balloon to nearly 250%  in an attempt to move drug manufacturing to the U.S. These tariffs could affect how patients afford their prescriptions and could threaten abilities to fund research into new medicines. International Trade Attorney Michelle Schulz has been monitoring these developments and goes into detail how this blunt attack on pharmaceuticals could be bad for everyone.     Flames & Forecasts  The Monroe Canyon fire has been burning across Utah, growing to over 66,000 acres. Garkane Energy is working hard to repair powerlines that have been burned by the fire and re-establishing power to those in southern Utah. Greg and Holly speak with KSL Meteorologist, Matt Johnston, about the latest on the fire and what to know about weather conditions and red flag warnings in Utah. On 1 June 2025, the second round of Poland's presidential election resulted in a surprise win for Karol Nawrocki, backed by the right-wing populist Law and Justice party, over Warsaw's liberal mayor Rafał Trzaskowski, the candidate of the ruling Civic Coalition. Trzaskowski had previously lost in 2020 to the incumbent President Andrzej Duda, albeit by anarrow margin of just over two percentage points – an impressive result, considering that Duda's party, Law and Justice, was then in power and controlled the state apparatus and media. Yet, despite seemingly more favorable conditions for Trzaskowski this time around, Nawrocki still managed to prevail by just under 400,000 votes. In Part 1 of this podcast, Professor Maciej Kisilowskiexamines the reasons for this electoral development as well as its implications for Poland's political dynamics over the next few years. In particular, he addresses the issue of whether Polish liberals and progressives are capable ofcorrectly identifying the prevailing sentiments in a deeply divided society. In Part 2, Professor Kisilowski lays out his proposalsfor a new constitutional settlement for Poland, aimed at addressing the roots and consequences of severe polarization of the Polish society.

With results suffering ahead of a September deadline, reports indicate he is “panicking.” Recent data shows that EV registrations in the second quarter of 2025 barely edged up from the previous quarter, while dropping significantly compared to the same period last year, raising questions about the viability of mandates that override consumer choice The California Energy Commission reported that 100,671 zero-emission vehicles (ZEVs) were registered from April to June, accounting for 21.6% of new vehicle sales. This figure represents a modest increase from the first quarter's 100,326 but a notable decline from the 116,813 seen in the second quarter of 2024. A sitting Democratic president who chooses not to run for re-election, a vice president running out of the president's shadow, and a Republican nominee trying to make a political comeback amidst accusations of collusion – welcome to the 2024 1968 presidential election. What we think we know about the election has been challenged, however, by a new book by Luke A. Nichter, a professor of history and presidential studies at Chapman University. In The Year That Broke Politics: Collusion and Chaos in the Presidential Election of 1968 (Yale UP, 2024) Nichter reexamines the campaign and shows how the ‘68 election foreshadowed our current political landscape. The 1968 presidential race was a contentious battle between vice president Hubert Humphrey, Republican Richard Nixon, and former Alabama governor George Wallace. The United States was reeling from the assassinations of Martin Luther King, Jr., and Robert F. Kennedy and was bitterly divided on the Vietnam War and domestic issues, including civil rights and rising crime. Drawing on previously unexamined archives and numerous interviews, Luke A. Nichter upends the conventional understanding of the campaign. Nichter chronicles how the evangelist Billy Graham met with Johnson after the president's attempt to reenter the race was stymied by his own party, and offered him a deal: Nixon, if elected, would continue Johnson's Vietnam War policy and also not oppose his Great Society, if Johnson would soften his support for Humphrey. Johnson agreed. Nichter also shows that Johnson was far more active in the campaign than has previously been described; that Humphrey's resurgence in October had nothing to do with his changing his position on the war; that Nixon's “Southern Strategy” has been misunderstood, since he hardly even campaigned there; and that Wallace's appeal went far beyond the South and anticipated today's Republican populism. This eye-opening account of the political calculations and maneuvering that decided this fiercely fought election reshapes our understanding of a key moment in twentieth-century American history. Melvyn Bragg and guests discuss the life and role of one of the most significant figures in early 20th Century German history. Paul von Hindenburg (1847-1934) had been famous since 1914 as the victorious commander at the Battle of Tannenberg against Russian invaders, soon burnishing this fame on the Western Front and Hindenburg was to claim he would have won there too, if enemies at home had not 'stabbed Germany in the back'. He won Germany's Presidential election twice during the Weimar Republic, as a candidate of national unity and, while he gained his second term as a ‘stop Hitler' candidate, President Hindenburg was to appoint Hitler as Chancellor and transfer some of his charisma onto him – a move so disastrous that Germans were later to ask if the myth of Hindenburg had always been an illusion.
