Whether you prefer the term data-driven, or data-informed, or data-dazzled, it doesn't matter—today's tech cannot survive without high quality data sets AND the tools to use them effectively. But we also can't afford to think about data as the responsibility of just one or two departments in the organization—instead, we need to be going into 2025 with a mindset of data democratization. In other words, our business is our customers, so what our customers are saying should be everyone's business. My guest today is Mario Ciabarra, Founder and CEO of Quantum Metric. Quantum is a Gen-AI powered analytics platform that allows companies to interpret data into useful insights for different stakeholders so that everyone—from the first day product designer to the company founder—can bake empathy for customers into every decision. We discussed how this works in practice, considerations around data hygiene, and some predictions on how Gen-AI will drive the evolution of analytics this year and beyond.Resources from this episode:Subscribe to The Product Manager newsletterConnect with Mario on LinkedInCheck out Quantum Metric

Adam Dille is the SVP of Product Engineering at Quantum Metric, a company specialising in experience analytics for some of the world's biggest brands. Despite his engineering roots, Adam's relentless curiosity about the WHY behind building products led him to embrace product thinking and how to build products better. His hot take? The traditional product trio - PM, design, and engineering - isn't enough anymore. He advocates for transforming the trio into a square by adding a customer-facing, "operational" team member. This person, deeply connected to customer needs and speaking to customers every day, can help to bridge the gap between the product team and the customer and enable stronger customer focus and faster iteration cycles. Today we are starting our series of conversations about Artificial Intelligence and how it's changing the way we learn, work, and even play. AI is a hot topic with the potential to do a lot of good. But there are also a few pitfalls that we should all be aware of.Joining the show to help us start making sense of it all is Mark Sunday. Mark spent 20 years as the CIO at Oracle/Siebel, and prior to that role, he spent 10 years at Motorola. Retirement hasn't slowed him down one bit. He is still very engaged in the tech industry and currently serves on the boards of Vutility, Quantum Metric, Chassis, Kaltura, and 1440. He is also a member of the Eccles Advisory Board here at the David Eccles School of Business and was appointed by the Governor to Utah's STEM Action Center. He sits down with host Frances Johnson to dive into the evolution of AI technologies, the challenges of bias and discrimination in AI data, and the opportunities AI presents for enhancing human productivity. Emphasizing the importance of retraining and upskilling, this episode highlights the steps organizations and educational institutions must take to integrate AI into their curricula and work environments.Eccles Business Buzz is a production of the David Eccles School of Business and is produced by University fm.Episode Quotes:Examining the risks of AI9:00 When I just type the word “Google,” it comes up with stuff that's relevant. Like, for me, I'm a big Michigan football fan, so Michigan football, AI, [and] a number of other topics. I like that it's showing me stuff, but I hate, hate that, based on what people have demonstrated they like, it's really limiting what information and news and opinions that people get to experience. So, I think it's created an incredible amount of divisiveness within our country. While data can buy a bias, but also using real data, and then just repeating patterns, whether it was hiring male engineers, whether it was suggesting that Black inmates are more likely to create repeat crimes or just creating a filter bubble where we're only exposed to opinions that support or reinforce opinions that we've had, I think is hugely problematic. How should individuals and institutions respond to the rise of AI?11:42 We've always faced this, whether it be computers or the internet just has to change. Yes, jobs are eliminated, should be eliminated. It was underemployment to have people pump your gas, and then, when it became legal in all states except for Oregon, until very recently to be able to pump your own gas, I look at that as underemployment when people aren't reaching the potential of the contribution that they can do. So, what's going to happen is roles are just going to have to change. We need to be aware of that. As individuals, we need to take personal responsibility. But also, as organizations, we need to invest in retraining because there are a lot of new jobs that are created—AI trainers, data scientists, ethics officers. But we're going to have to upskill and adapt.Despite the risks, Mark urges students to embrace AI's game-changing potential.21:11 We need for our students to be the very, very best at leveraging this technology. It's game-changing. It's as if calculators came out, and when I went to school, nope, we're going to have to select the slide rules, or computers came out and it's going to do the work for all of us, or the web came out and now people can do Google searches. This is far, far bigger. In fact, when we are recruiting for our new dean for the business school, I'm convinced that higher ed will change more in the next 10 years than it has in the previous 100. And AI is going to be the reason for that. And so, as we think of what we're going to be as a business school, as we think of what we're going to be as a university, we need to be prepared for this huge, huge transformation.Show Links:Mark Sunday | LinkedInOracleKahlert Initiative on Technology - The David Eccles School of BusinessSTEM Action CenterDavid Eccles School of Business (@ubusiness) • InstagramEccles Alumni Network (@ecclesalumni) • Instagram Eccles Experience Magazine

This episode features an interview with Efrat Ravid, CMO at Quantum Metric, a pioneer in Continuous Product Design, helping business and technology teams align faster on customer needs and prioritize the opportunities that will drive the most value. In this episode, Efrat takes us on a deep dive into Quantum Metric's continuous product design approach, the endless benefits of hearing directly from your customers, and the importance of data accessibility across entire teams. Efrat also shares with us how Quantum Metric provides opportunities for their customers to release with confidence and warns all CMOs to stay away from marketing campaigns that do not work for your customers. Key Takeaways:Modern marketing is all about customer relationships. If you don't know your customers and ask for (and accept) their honest feedback, you are leaving a lot of untapped potential on the table. Encourage customers to share feedback in their own words.Embrace industry dynamics and lean into continuous product design. The purpose of new initiatives isn't always about selling more products; it's about continuous improvement to our products for the benefit of our customers.Feedback in your customers' own words creates marketing magic. The more companies try to force language out of their customers, the less useful customer feedback truly is.Quote:“And then we ask them a different question, and they ask them, what's the value the product actually brings you? Like, forget about what we tell you, what you and the word they use were completely different. They were talking about releasing with confidence. So every time you have an update on your website, you need to release and think about your airline, like United Airlines and you need to release, you can break so many things, right? Or think about [if] you are a bank like US Bank and people can stop, withdraw money because of a mistake you make and it can have a real impact. So releasing with confidence was an amazing value. Another thing they mentioned is being able to test and try again and again and not be afraid of that.”Episode Timestamps: *(04:08) - The Trust Tree: All marketing efforts are focused on the customer: their journey and their feedback*(22:58) - The Playbook: Why Efrat's not married to any particular tactic; anything can be cut if it needs to be*(31:44) - The Dust Up: There's an ongoing healthy tension between sales and marketing*(34:29) - Quick Hits: Efrat's Quick HitsSponsor:Pipeline Visionaries is brought to you by Qualified.com, the #1 Conversational Marketing platform for companies that use Salesforce and the secret weapon for Demand Gen pros. The CPD (Continuous Product Design) company claimed to be the first unicorn of 2021 after raising $200M in Series B financing in January, a unique achievement for a Colorado Springs-based company. Throughout this inspiring interview with Quantum Metric’s leader, Mario reiterates the importance of hiring the best talent wherever it is and the three attributes that he hires on: passion, persistence and integrity. Mario elaborates on why ‘it’s mission-critical to have a mission’ -especially when your company grows at scale-, how his number one company objective is “happy people, healthy culture” and what his 13-year-old daughter taught him about friction points in eCommerce during the pandemic. We even had time to talk about Braveheart, carpentry and skiing on Colorado slopes. The interview, as ever, was co-hosted with Russell Goldsmith of the csuite podcast.
