As A decorated combat veteran with multiple deployments, Lieutenant Colonel Jason Pike, served 31 years in the United States Army as both an enlisted and officer, including nine years overseas in five countries. Jason earned over 30 service awards & badges and survived a wicked amount of Military training. Thrown under the bus and ghost lighted by his own superiors, arrests and investigations are big stories here. His book A Soldier Against All Odds compiles all his life events in an inspiring storytelling format with the ups and downs of a life in uniform. His diversity of Army jobs, assignments, and schools from age 17 to 48 sets this military memoir up differently than most. Jason's brutal honesty on how he did it while disclosing many sacred secrets about how he survived is unique. With a straightforward account of one man's journey, he inspires audiences nationwide at speaking events and shows how to be resilient and to persevere no matter what disadvantages and life struggles may happen. With more than three decades of national guard and active service, after starting his military career at seventeen and retiring at the rank of lieutenant colonel, he was told that none of it would be possible. For that advice, there were indeed excellent grounds. His story, therefore, is one of survival, perseverance, and a refusal to quit, no matter what, a characteristic gifted to him by his father. Once he did it, everyone asked, "how the hell did you do it?" And many times, he had asked himself the same question… In A Soldier Against All Odds, Jason Pile shows that It is possible, through determination, careful application, and bold strategy, to overcome or compensate for personal humiliation brought about primarily by his own mistakes, being haunted by investigations, academic difficulty, arrests, many ass-chewings, and physical frailty. He did pay the price for being himself. This is how he did it, but most importantly, how he survived it. Despite these facts, Jason refuses to brag, refuses to portray any sort of pretentiousness, and refuses to call himself a hero. “The heroes are the ones, who didn't come home,” he says. “Now, let me tell you about another time I managed not to die by doing something stupid.” Indeed, the mental image of Jason attempting to escape from a hole filled with animal feces in South Korea, his electrocution in the doorway of an airplane, running from a police helicopter after burning trash illegally, nearly breaking his legs after a faulty parachute jump, and being stabbed in ROTC are just a few Pike stories that are listed in the book. Regardless of what he has experienced for good or ill, Jason's jovial sense of humor and desire to teach others to believe in oneself persists. Like the phoenix of Greek mythology, when faced with insurmountable odds, Jason rose from ashes, stronger and more determined, time and time again, to surmount them. The chronicle of life will inspire readers to wince, cry, and laugh. Jason hopes that the lessons he learned through the course of his life and his military career will be an inspiration to anyone confronting the future from a place of disadvantage. "A journey equally defined by success and struggle. Pike pushes onward with a stunning refusal to quit. His grit, resilience, and remarkable vulnerability shine through every sentence, providing light and hope to readers in any season of life." — Col. JACK WEDAM, USA, Retired.www.jasonpike.org

The Green Berets are known for parachuting in behind enemy lines and then building relationships with people on the ground to mobilize resistance from the ground up. That work has been going on in Afghanistan for the last 20 years, leading to strong bonds between U.S. Special Forces and the Afghan farmers, commandos, and special forces that fought with them in the global battle against terrorism. When, in light of the tragic events playing out in Afghanistan, Scott Mann, Green Beret and Retired Lieutenant Colonel in the U.S. Army, realized that one of those Afghan commandos was going to be left behind despite holding a Special Immigrant Visa (SIV), he knew he needed to act. Scott had worked with and trained this young soldier for years, and so he used his own network – predominantly based in the U.S. – to connect with members of the media, congress, and other Veterans in an unofficial mission that would later be dubbed, ‘Taskforce Pineapple.' That one rescue became the basis for getting over 700 people through the bottlenecks at the airport in Kabul. In this unique and exceptional episode of Supply Chain Now, Scott Mann tells the true story one harrowing rescue mission to co-hosts Scott Luton and Mike Griswold, Vice President of Research at Gartner, and shares his own brand of wisdom: • Why we can never dismiss anyone we meet as unimportant or irrelevant in an effort that requires relationships and social capital to succeed • The power of having real-time situational awareness plus communications and relationships when a mission is both critical and clearly defined • The lessons that supply chain professionals in any industry can learn from proven military techniques and maxims Additional Links & Resources: Learn more about Supply Chain Now: https://supplychainnow.com/program/supply-chain-now Subscribe to Supply Chain Now and all other Supply Chain Now programs: https://supplychainnow.com/subscribe (https://supplychainnow.com/subscribe) Learn more about Rooftop Leadership: https://www.rooftopleadership.com/ (https://www.rooftopleadership.com/) Learn more about Operation Recovery: https://www.operationrecovery.org/ (https://www.operationrecovery.org/) Learn more about Last Out: Elegy of a Green Beret: https://www.lastoutplay.com/ (https://www.lastoutplay.com/) Register for the Opentext ConneXions 2021 Summit: https://tinyurl.com/sept14withSCN (https://tinyurl.com/sept14withSCN) Register for the OMNIA Partners Connections Conference: https://bit.ly/3jHlwdv (https://bit.ly/3jHlwdv) WEBINAR- State of the Supply Chain Report – Priorities for Building Resiliency in Your Supply Network: https://bit.ly/2XIRZHf (https://bit.ly/2XIRZHf) 2021 Supply Chain and Procurement Awards: https://lnkd.in/gxp7bQy (https://lnkd.in/gxp7bQy) Download the 2021 Q2 U.S. Bank Freight Payment Index: https://bit.ly/3f1LO6S (https://bit.ly/3f1LO6S) This episode was hosted by Scott Luton and Greg White. Valerie Bérubé is a retired Marine Corps lieutenant colonel with 30 years of combined active duty and reserve service with deployments to Kosovo, Iraq, and Afghanistan. In civilian life, she noticed that most young people are not offered leadership and personal development training like the military provides for their junior talent. She sought to make a difference and authored a two volume book series called "Polish Your Star - Three Minute Daily Lessons to Become an Extraordinary Leader" targeted toward junior leaders. The books deliver a seven-step process beginning with building a foundation for a creating a personal vision, emotional intelligence, communication, and rational thinking, then moving on to fundamental leadership principles such as getting things done, empowering others, modeling good behavior, and stretching oneself to improve. The books may be read by individuals seeking to better themselves, or can be used by leaders of small teams to give "hip pocket classes" daily or as time permits. Valerie lives in Phoenix, Arizona with her husband, Brian, and their golden retriever. www.teemingwithtalentllc.com
