Una pareja de Rode Wireless Pro es la nueva integrante que se suma a mi equipo de grabación gracias al apoyo recibido en Ko-fi, y el episodio de hoy es una forma de celebrarlo y, sobre todo, de dar las gracias a todas las personas que han decidido apoyar este proyecto durante los últimos meses. Este capítulo es un poco especial porque gracias a ese apoyo he alcanzado el objetivo que había marcado para esta séptima temporada. El reto consistía en conseguir una pareja de micrófonos Rode Wireless Pro, y a finales de febrero se alcanzó la cifra necesaria para hacerlo realidad. Por eso hoy he querido hacer algo distinto: levantarme de mi posición habitual de grabación y estrenar uno de estos micrófonos mientras sigo grabando el episodio. Durante el capítulo me muevo por casa, incluso me voy a la cocina a preparar un café, algo que hasta ahora no podía hacer con tanta libertad mientras grababa. Es precisamente una de las ventajas que ofrecen estos sistemas inalámbricos: permiten grabar con una movilidad enorme sin perder calidad de audio. En este caso lo estoy combinando con mi micrófono habitual, el Shure MV7, y con la Rodecaster Duo.De hecho, lo que estoy haciendo técnicamente es grabar en multipista dentro de Adobe Audition utilizando ambos micrófonos. Uno conectado directamente a la Rodecaster y el otro mediante el sistema inalámbrico de los Wireless Pro. Esto me permite ir alternando entre uno y otro durante el episodio, simplemente como una forma de enseñaros cómo suenan y cómo se integran dentro de mi configuración actual. Más allá de la prueba técnica, este episodio tiene sobre todo un componente emocional. Gran parte del equipo que utilizo hoy para grabar podcast (la Rodecaster Duo, la Rodecaster Pro, el Shure MV7, los monitores de estudio KRK o incluso parte del material que utilizo en eventos) se ha conseguido gracias al apoyo de la audiencia, ya sea a través de Ko-fi o de iniciativas como el crowdfunding de las Podnights. Por eso este nuevo equipo no lo siento como una simple compra tecnológica, sino como un pequeño logro colectivo. Cada café aportado en Ko-fi ha ido sumando hasta hacer posible que este estudio siga creciendo. Y como forma de devolver ese apoyo, he decidido que los próximos objetivos en Ko-fi no estarán relacionados con nuevo equipo, sino con algo más simbólico: durante los meses de marzo y abril voy a realizar dos sorteos dobles, es decir, cuatro sorteos en total, con cuatro tazas del podcast. Serán sorteos en los que cada aportación contará como participación, como ya he hecho en otras ocasiones. It's Season Three of a Strange Old Guys podcast.  Or it's a very long Season One.  It's hard to tell.  But The Guys have all watched Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, and have things to say.   Did it live up to the previous seasons?  Will they keep watching when Season Four comes along?  Should Anson Mount's hair get a separate credit? These questions and more may or may not be answered.   In Geeks of the Week, Jay reflects on some Emmy nominations as he looks at some new food and drink shows hitting the stream-waves this fall.  Art is lost in space, but pops in via the magic of the Rodecaster Pro to give his thoughts as the resident Trekkie and to celebrate the anniversary of another classic show.  Robbie does a compare and contrast of a sort with Daredevil Season 3 and The Muppet Show Season 47.  Or something like that.   Lots of interesting Emmy's for the geek world are discussed as well as the loss of Hydra's leader.  Listen where no man has listened before.  

1214. Hoy me toca hablarte con una sonrisa especial porque este episodio no va solo de la Rodecaster Duo, sino del apoyo directo que he recibido por parte de quienes estáis al otro lado del micrófono. Esta interfaz de audio, que ahora forma parte esencial de mi estudio, ha sido posible gracias a las aportaciones vía Ko-fi que muchos y muchas hicisteis durante la temporada pasada. Y solo por eso, ya merecía un episodio dedicado. Me cuesta no llamarla Rodecaster Pro Duo, porque ese sufijo “Pro” le viene al pelo, pero oficialmente es Rodecaster Duo, la versión más reducida —pero igual de robusta— de la Rodecaster Pro II. Y ya te adelanto que si estás buscando una interfaz con calidad, potencia y tamaño contenido, esta puede ser una opción ideal. En el capítulo de hoy repaso con detalle qué la hace diferente respecto a sus hermanas mayores. Para empezar, pasamos de cuatro entradas XLR a solo dos, lo que la convierte en una herramienta perfecta para quienes grabamos en solitario o en pareja, tanto presencial como remotamente. En mi caso, tener una interfaz más compacta, que no ocupe media mesa y que no tenga que estar desconectando y conectando cada vez que grabo fuera de casa, era justo lo que necesitaba. A nivel de conectividad, mantiene casi todo lo que ofrece la Pro 2: entradas USB duales, entrada Bluetooth, pads programables (con efectos asignables a los micros), salida para monitores, dos salidas traseras de auriculares y —aquí viene uno de los grandes aciertos— una salida adicional delantera para auriculares, ideal para productores o técnicos que trabajamos con clientes en grabaciones. Algo que inexplicablemente se perdió en la Pro 2. En cuanto al software, prácticamente es idéntico al de la Pro 2, con ecualización avanzada, presets para micrófonos populares (sí, también está el Shure SM7B) y una interfaz táctil desde la que puedes configurar hasta el más mínimo detalle, ya seas podcaster, músico o monologuista. Todo está pensado para que grabar sea tan cómodo como divertido. Y no solo eso. Esta Rodecaster Duo incluye compatibilidad con la nueva función Rode Call, de la que te hablaré en otro episodio, pero que ya anticipo que es otro puntazo. A pesar de su precio, que se acerca bastante al de modelos superiores, la calidad, el servicio postventa y la durabilidad de Rode lo justifican con creces. En mi caso, me ganaron como cliente cuando me cambiaron una Rodecaster Pro por una Pro 2 días antes de acabar la garantía, y no soy el único. Hay casos como el de Sunne que incluso lo consiguieron fuera de plazo. Ahora que ya tengo este nuevo juguete en casa, te adelanto cuál va a ser el próximo objetivo en Ko-fi: los micrófonos inalámbricos RØDE Wireless PRO. One of the most common questions I'm asked is about the gear needed to begin podcasting. I will honestly admit that it's a difficult decision when you're just starting because you want reliable equipment that does a great job, but you are also hesitant to break the bank for it. As you progress, several factors complicate the choices of gear, such as how you conduct guest interviews and whether you have a co-host. In today's session, I'm walking you through four common podcasting scenarios and the gear I recommend for each. All of this information is compiled in the Buying Guide found inside our Healthcasters course. You'll Learn:My gear setup as I started the STC podcast in 2015 with a teeny, tiny budgetMy advice for beginning podcasters: “Don't go out and purchase all the gear I mention, but go with the basics as you focus on building and honing your storytelling and interviewing skills.”Four podcasting scenarios and the recommended equipment:1- A single host with solo episodes and guest interviews via the Internet.I recommend the Samsung Q2U dynamic mic, Koolertron mic shock mount, OnStage foam windscreen, pop filter, mic stand, and Rode PSA mic arm.2- A single host who interviews guests in person.In addition to the basic equipment in Scenario #1, I recommend a 2-3 camera set-up (very expensive!), Calendly to coordinate interviews, 2 tabletop stands/mic arms, the Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 for recording, and XLR cables.3- Co-hosts who connect and interview guests via the Internet.I recommend the basic equipment in Scenario #1 for EACH co-host, along with a recording platform, like Zoom or Ecamm Live.4- Co-hosts who get together in-person to interview guests in person. This is a dream set-up, but it is very expensive and complicated. I recommend the basic equipment in Scenario #1 for EACH co-host and guest (Yes, that is at least three of everything!), along with the Rodecaster Pro (the Rodecaster Pro II or Pro Mini), 32 GB SD card, and XLR cables.My advice: “Start with a lean setup. One of the most common questions I'm asked is about the gear needed to begin podcasting. I will honestly admit that it's a difficult decision when you're just starting because you want reliable equipment that does a great job, but you are also hesitant to break the bank for it. As you progress, several factors complicate the choices of gear, such as how you conduct guest interviews and whether you have a co-host. In today's session, I'm walking you through four common podcasting scenarios and the gear I recommend for each. All of this information is compiled in the Buying Guide found inside our Healthcasters course. You'll Learn:My gear setup as I started the STC podcast in 2015 with a teeny, tiny budgetMy advice for beginning podcasters: “Don't go out and purchase all the gear I mention, but go with the basics as you focus on building and honing your storytelling and interviewing skills.”Four podcasting scenarios and the recommended equipment:1- A single host with solo episodes and guest interviews via the Internet.I recommend the Samsung Q2U dynamic mic, Koolertron mic shock mount, OnStage foam windscreen, pop filter, mic stand, and Rode PSA mic arm.2- A single host who interviews guests in person.In addition to the basic equipment in Scenario #1, I recommend a 2-3 camera set-up (very expensive!), Calendly to coordinate interviews, 2 tabletop stands/mic arms, the Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 for recording, and XLR cables.3- Co-hosts who connect and interview guests via the Internet.I recommend the basic equipment in Scenario #1 for EACH co-host, along with a recording platform, like Zoom or Ecamm Live.4- Co-hosts who get together in-person to interview guests in person. This is a dream set-up, but it is very expensive and complicated.
