After keeping fans waiting for more than a year, the American Southwest Conference finally had something to say about its membership situation, and it did so with a bang, swiping two teams from the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference to shore up its membership and bring it back to six for the fall of 2026. Who does that affect? It affects the SCAC folks, who were on the way to getting an automatic bid to the NCAA playoffs, and we'll hear more about the reaction of the conference when we sit down with conference commissioner Dwayne Hanberry on this edition of the D3football.com Around the Nation Podcast. Plus ... This edition of the podcast is sponsored by GameStrat: The Most Reliable & Fastest In-Game Video Replay System on The Market. D-III football coaches should click here to learn more. Plus, the two schools that are going back to the ASC are doing so, apparently $4 million richer apiece. But for Schreiner, this represents a big leap up in competition for a program which hasn't even played a game yet! Schreiner isn't set to play a varsity game until 2026, but the Mountaineers' timeline just got altered a bit. We talk with Schreiner's head coach -- Keith Allen, the second coach in this young program's history -- about how that changes things for him, one month into his tenure. And more change in Division III this upcoming season includes, of course, the fact that there won't be nearly as many fifth-year players. That's the case all over now that the extra year of eligibility because of the COVID pandemic has largely worked its way through the system. At Coe, they'll feel the loss of two seniors classes at once, and coach Tyler Staker tells us how they'll adjust and what's expected of the student-athletes who need to step up in 2025. A lot of news happened in the past month aside from the ASC/SCAC as well, and we'll talk through it all, including the upcoming NESCAC presidents' meeting, the new Cortland coach, our soon-to-become Division III schools in Azusa Pacific and St. Francis (Pa.), and which one of those said it will dominate Division III. Plus, with two brand-new football programs coming online in the Conference of New England in the fall, where would the CONE likely rank? Stat of the Week in March? Conference rankings in March? Patrick and Greg cover it all in the latest edition of the D3football.com Around the Nation podcast.

Detailed Description of Weaver's Motor Fuels Tax Minute, Episode 4700:00:00Kelly: This is Motor Fuels Tax Minute, where we talk all things motor fuel. In this week's episode, Emilda is going to dive into some ExSTARS requirements like SCAC codes and some other things as well.00:00:11Emilda: Thanks, Kelly. So yes, ExSTARS. So, we know that ExSTARS is an inventory reporting for terminal operators and some of the questions that we get asked pretty often are, what is the W-13 form and what is that used for? And so one of the things that we like to emphasize to terminal operators is that a W-13 is a form very similar in nature to a W-9 form, but it was designed to be able to collect the EIN number for the carrier or the position holder in a terminal, so that the terminal operator can report the correct EIN number for that entity that is actually purchasing or taking possession of that product at the rack. The other thing is a terminal operator really needs to think about collecting the information for the carrier that is coming into the terminal. And that is by way of a SCAC code and an EIN. So, what is the SCAC code? The SCAC code basically stands for standard alpha carrier code that identifies who that carrier is and taking possession of the product that it's lifting from the terminal. So that is very good information to collect. Other things that terminal operators should consider is maybe a carrier access agreement, allowing a carrier to come in and lift product from their terminal, and the W-13 that we just briefly touched on, and also a certificate of insurance. All of that information is very important for a terminal operator to consider. And when you allow carriers into your terminal, that's information you'd like to have verified, especially from an insurance standpoint, because they are coming in to pick up fuel from your terminal.00:02:12Leanne: Thanks, Emilda. That is a lot of good information for terminal operators and carriers. As always, if there's any questions, please reach out to us. That's this week's Motor Fuels Tax Minute. See you next time. Thank you.

We welcome Jace Rindahl of UW-Whitewater, the new 36-year-old head coach who was playing linebacker for the Warhawks so recently that he was the 2008 D3football.com Defensive Player of the Year. The Warhawks men's basketball team made a surprising run to the D-III Final Four. We also welcome John Carroll coach Jeff Behrman. (Mount Union's men's basketball team made it to the Final Four, but coach Geoff Dartt again declined an interview request, so we'll represent the OAC with its next-best men's basketball team.) And Paul Crowley of Christopher Newport joins us as well after the CNU men won the D-III national title and the CNU women won their national semifinal and will play for the national title on Saturday, April 1.  Rindahl has spent 16 of the past 18 years in the Whitewater football program, and he comes into his first year as head coach with a schedule that is just simply loaded, starting with John Carroll. He talks with us about what kind of head coach he'll be, how the program feels after their surprising first-round playoff loss to Aurora, and how they intend to handle each new opponent in that gauntlet. Behrman is a John Carroll grad just returning to the institution after a quarter-century, and he talks about what the university has to sell to recruits, how much he'll change the scheme, whether he'll be able to bring some stability to a program that is on its third head coach in three seasons, and how much Mount Union footage he has watched so far. And Crowley talks about the great gameday atmosphere at his institution, some of last year's early growing pains in his first year as a head coach and what kind of kids he is looking to recruit to get his program back in the conference title conversation. Plus, Pat and Greg talk about the fact that D-III seems to keep losing programs and what that means for the SCIAC (divisions?) and the SAA (expansion?). Pat puts Greg on the spot and gets a conference ranking for the SCAC, whenever it is able to get all of its programs on the field.  The post ATN Podcast 328: Three teams with reason to look ahead appeared first on D3football.com » D3football.com Around the Nation Podcast.

Welcome to Episode 108 of The Podcast About Division III Baseball. It's our second of ten 2023 regional preview pods as we head to the South, home to some of the strongest teams in D-III. We review them all, in the following order: C2C (at 5:30) An enormous percentage of the Salisbury team that has made back-to-back championship series is back in 2023 as the Sea Gulls look like a juggernaut once again IMPORTANT NOTE: We were informed after recording this episode that Salisbury is actually now in Region 5, one of the two Mid-Atlantic regions. We will discuss the ramifications of that move on the Region 5 preview pod but it doesn't change much about how we feel about the actual team so we left the Sea Gulls convo in the pod as is.  Christopher Newport's pitching staff can rack up the strikeouts but they'll need more offensive firepower to really elevate into the elite tier of teams this season ODAC (at 21:00) Lynchburg lost some key pieces but still has multiple All-Region-types on the roster that could carry them for another deep postseason run Shenandoah's lineup was already going to be loaded and now they get one of the best players in America back from injury Roanoke is a balanced squad that is extra motivated after being snubbed from the postseason in 2022 Randolph-Macon's young team in 2022 was better than expected -- can they compete with the older rosters atop this loaded conference? SAA (at 37:30) Birmingham-Southern should have an elite offense again but will need some arms to step up big time Count on Rhodes, Hendrix and Berry to challenge the Panthers atop this conference USA South (at 45:50) NC Wesleyan is now in great position as the favorite of this shrunken conference Methodist, Pfeiffer and William Peace are all solid and could benefit from extremely old rosters Collegiate Conference of the South (at 50:15) Few teams as many total bases to replace as LaGrange but they still have one of the best hitters in the country back and a good amount of top-end pitching, making them the favorite Belhaven might just step right in from the SCAC and become LaGrange's biggest challenger, but keep there are a lot of solid programs in this newly formed conference: Huntingdon, Maryville (TN), Piedmont, Brevard, Covenant UAA (at 59:35) Emory has been solid recently but still looking to rediscover its incredible peak from a decade ago We conclude (at 1:02:00) with our player and pitcher of the year picks, and our teams to beat. Welcome to Episode 84 of The Podcast About Division III Baseball. We are extremely excited to be back for another season and the games are just around the corner. We begin with some general info about how this year will be back to relatively normal, the 60-team postseason field, the return of super regionals, the restructured regions (mostly just NE and Mid-Atlantic) and a few other minor notes (at 2:30). Then we give our usual caveats about how we plan to preview each region before previewing the West. In order: ASC (at 5:16) The UT-Dallas Comets could have one of the best offenses in the country The East Texas Baptist Tigers are always near the top of this league; can they finally reach the postseason this year? The Mary Hardin-Baylor Crusaders might be ready to compete even sooner than we thought Other teams like Concordia (TX) should also be in the mix  SCAC (at 17:40) The Trinity (TX) Tigers should rake as always; how will their pitching staff shake out? The Texas Lutheran Bulldogs have graduated a bunch but still have some All-Region talent that should keep them in contention The Centenary (LA) Gents are basically always good, and have one of the best two-way players in the region Look for Southwestern (TX) to also contend  SCIAC (at 32:45) The Chapman Panthers had a semi-real season in 2021 and are always great but are losing some key contributors The Cal Lutheran Kingsmen have more starters returning than Chapman but less experience overall The La Verne Leopards broke out in a big way in 2019; can they contend again in 2022? Redlands also played but seem a tick below the top 3; none of the other teams played in 2021 so who knows what they'll be? NWC (at 41:20) The Pacific Boxers have a ton of talent returning and are looking to bounce back after a tough exit in last year's regionals The Pacific Lutheran Lutes have two All-American Candidates and some strong depth behind them The Willamette Bearcats HIT DINGERS SO MANY DINGERS but can they do the other things necessary to win baseball games? We think so! We conclude (at 53:10) with some other notable players to watch, our player and pitcher of the year picks, and our teams to beat. Then we say goodbye.  Follow us on Twitter @d3baseballpod (DMs are open if you want to reach us there) and @CespedesBBQ.  Send us your best D-III stories or any other comments or questions to thed3baseballpodcast@gmail.com Subscribe + rate/review on iTunes: https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/the-podcast-about-division-iii-baseball/id1342691759

Welcome to Episode 67 of The Podcast About Division III Baseball. The coronavirus pandemic cancelled the 2020 championship season and will make the 2021 season the craziest and most unpredictable D-III season we've ever seen (and hopefully will ever seen). We begin with some broad caveats about how we will be covering this season and why it will be as challenging as ever. Then we preview the West.  ASC (at 11:00) Concordia (Texas) brings back all of their main dudes and even added an arm from a regional rival -- they could be one of the best teams in the country SCAC (at 16:30) Trinity (Texas) is primed to be excellent again, hopefully lead by #SeniorYearRafe  #5thYearRafe Texas Lutheran has more than enough coming back to compete with the Tigers Southwestern lost two of their biggest arms but may have the bats to stay around at the top of the conference SCIAC (at 25:00)  The conference that might be one of the least likely to play based on state restrictions/regulations...is looking now like they may be able to play some baseball this spring, so we'll see if they play, Chapman is obviously still the favorite -- defending champs! NWC (at 30:20) We never know what to make of this conference but are encouraged that they've got schedules for this spring and we could see it being a wide-open race Follow us on Twitter @d3baseballpod (DMs are open if you want to reach us there) and @CespedesBBQ.  Send us your best D-III stories or any other comments or questions to thed3baseballpodcast@gmail.com Subscribe + rate/review on iTunes: https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/the-podcast-about-division-iii-baseball/id1342691759

Music performed by William Chapman Nyaho, produced through the Jack Straw Artist Support Program. Transcript: Narrator: Opening Doors is a new podcast about accessibility in arts and civic life, brought to you by the Seattle Cultural Accessibility Consortium and Jack Straw Cultural Center. For our first season, we aim to amplify the voices of Black, Indigenous, and People of Color with disabilities, and to learn how race and disability impact their access to arts and culture. Kameko Thomas: the number one thing when you have an invisible disability is of course the automatic assumption that there’s nothing wrong with you. I’ll get these incredulous looks like “Oh really?” and then, the next one is “Oh, you don’t look like disabled.” Troy Coalman: The same cultural attributes that exist to create racism exist for someone who can’t see. And so, we have to break down those walls and we have to break down those barriers that may exist, whether they have to do with language or they have to do with behavior. Whether they have to do with access. They don’t work separately; they work hand in hand. King Khazm: We all need to do our part in unlearning prejudice and hatred and decolonizing our minds and looking deep into our systemic infrastructure and how we can all be a part of the solution. You know, what is the change that we want to see and how are we gonna get there? Christiana ObeySumner: I cannot have a meltdown in the same way I could if I was say, a white cis man. Because if I had a meltdown as a white cis man, then people would just see me as “oh, this person is emotional” or “this person is upset” or- “this person is expressing themselves.” If I’m emotional, then I’m a danger. I’m a threat. They should call 911. Narrator: Subscribe and listen at soundcloud.com/OpeningDoorsPod and wherever you get your podcasts.

Welcome to Episode 29 of The Podcast About Division III Baseball. The 2019 season is upon us, which means it's about time we get back to podcasting. Before we dive into our first regional preview, we give our quick reactions (at 4:10) to the Preseason Top 25 poll and why you probably shouldn't care all that much about preseason polls. Then we begin our comprehensive look at the West region, starting with the ASC (at 8:20). We quickly discuss defending champion Texas-Tyler and their transition outta D-III, before deciding which of UT-Dallas and Concordia-Texas are the new favorites in the conference. We then move to the SCAC (at 19:05), home of the 2018 national runner-up Texas Lutheran Bulldogs. and one of the most talented teams in the country, the Trinity Tigers. Who has the edge? Next, we head out to the actual west part of the West region and discuss the favorites in the SCIAC (at 30:54). Will Redlands and Chapman duke it out for a title again, or will Cal Lutheran get back in the mix? AND WHAT ABOUT LA VERNE?! Finally, we head to the beautiful pacific northwest and preview the NWC (at 40:35), where the Willamette Bearcats look like a notch ahead of the rest of the pack but it could be wide open beyond them. Special episode featuring Rodney Rogan, Assistant Coach for the University of Nebraska - Omaha Women's Basketball Team, 4 year starting forward for Millsaps College from 2004 to 2008, and my brother.  Rodney delivered this speech as part of the Millsaps College Athletics Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony where the 2007-08 men's basketball team was recognized for a historic season where they finished with 28 wins, went undefeated in the Hangar Dome, and captured the SCAC tournament championship.  I missed most of this because my high school team was making our own historic run.  Go Majors! This is really the end of the offseason, right here. Kickoff is out in a week-plus and training camps open at the same time. Coaches are taking the last days off until November, and we're talking with them about their plans for this season. Our guests this month are from programs trying to break through into the upper echelons of really tough conferences. Matt Walker, coach of UW-River Falls, has seen the Falcons' reboot take seven years so far, and he shares some pretty honest thoughts about how long it's taken. He also talks about his sudden and unexplained departure from DePauw all those years ago. We're also joined by Joe Austin, the coach at Southwestern, whose program is entering its sixth season. The Pirates have moved from the SCAC to the American Southwest Conference, and hardly missed a beat last year. What's it like recruiting in the shadow of Mary Hardin-Baylor? The answer isn't what you'd expect.  The post ATN Podcast 198: Trying to break through appeared first on D3football.com » D3football.com Around the Nation Podcast.

Welcome to Episode 2 of The Podcast About Division III Baseball. This is the first of our eight regional preview podcasts -- this one focuses on the West region, AKA the region that has weather nice enough to start their seasons in early February. First, we lay out the obvious disclaimers and caveats about whatever flaming hot takes we present about teams in the West -- mainly that we haven't seen any of these teams, so we're giving the most educated and researched insight we can give based on the information we've got. We discuss the strongest regional contenders from each of the four West conferences -- the ASC, the NWC, the SCAC, and the SCIAC. First (at 4:14), we talk about the favorites in the ASC, and why we love Texas-Dallas this year (despite their inconveniently timed 0-2 start!). Next (at 11:03), we discuss the teams of the beautiful Pacific Northwest, AKA the NWC, and whether any other teams have what it takes to take on Linfield. Next (at 16:36), we discuss the SCAC and Centenary's chances to dominate the region (especially after their hot start). We then head to California (at 22:54) to discuss the favorites way out west, including that purple and gold team that may or may not have won the national championship last year. Finally (at 31:10), we run through some other notable players to watch in the West, before giving our official TEAM TO BEAT and our Player and Pitcher of the Year.  Thanks for listening!
