Kit Schluter celebrates the publication of "Cartoons," (City Lights) & Garrett Caples celebrates the publication of "Proses: Incomparable Parables! Fabulous Fables! Cruel Tales!" (Wave Books). Purchase "Cartoons:" https://citylights.com/city-lights-published/cartoons/ Purchase "Proses:" https://citylights.com/general-fiction/proses-incomparable-parables-fabulous/ About "Cartoons:" Set in the uncanny valley between Bugs Bunny & Franz Kafka, "Cartoons" is an explosive series of outrageous, absurdist tales. "Cartoons" proposes itself as a genre of imaginary writing in opposition to the realism of most contemporary U.S. fiction, aligning itself with the French symbolism & Latin American fabulism its author is known to translate. A giant cricket with a tiny Kit Schluter in a jar, an umbrella who confuses the words porpoise and purpose in its quest for self-fulfillment, a pair of slugs go on a bender, these are just a few denizens of its pages, suffused with a fairy tale-like animism. A microwave oven decries microaggressions. A beer bottle is filled with regret. An escalator mechanic's shoe conceals a terrible secret. Kit Schluter's recent work has appeared in Boston Review, BOMB, & Brooklyn Rail. He is author of the poetry collection "Pierrot's Fingernails" (Canarium Books) as well as numerous chapbooks & artist editions of poems & stories. Schluter is included in the latest edition of "Best American Experimental Writing" (Wesleyan UP, 2020), edited by Carmen Maria Machado, Joyelle McSweeney, Jesse Damiani & Seth Abramson. He has translated widely from French & Spanish, including works by Rafael Bernal (New Directions), Marcel Schwob (Wakefield Press), & Olivia Tapiero (Nightboat Books). He recently illustrated Sebastian Castillo's novel "SALMON." Kit coordinates production & design for Nightboat Books and lives in Mexico City. About "Proses:" In the grand tradition of poet's fiction, "Proses: Incomparable Parables! Fabulous Fables! Cruel Tales!" is a collection of nine phantasmagorical stories by poet & City Lights editor, Garrett Caples. Turning its back on the ethos of traditional narrative, "Proses" draws on Marcel Schwob, magical realism, & speculative fiction for inspiration, projecting worlds dominated by dream logic & impossible dimensions. Spectral nuns, xenobots, explosive phraseology, & even Ringo Starr are some of the unexpected dilemmas confronting the various protagonists. Poets such as Andrew Joron, Kit Schluter, & Claude Grind make cameo appearances. While each story is a standalone, the collection amounts to an intricate whole, as themes, objects, & characters recur, encouraging readers to enjoy the book sequentially. Regardless of how it's enjoyed, "Proses" is both a satire of the world of contemporary poetry & a celebration of that world's fantastic, infinite imagination. Garrett Caples is the author of "Lovers of Today" (Wave Books, 2021), "Power Ballads" (Wave Books, 2016), "Complications" (2007), & "The Garrett Caples Reader" (1999), a collection of outtakes, "The Rise & Fall of Johnny Volume" (2020), & a bilingual selection, "Noches Apátridas" (Unstated Nights, 2019). He's also written a book of essays, "Retrievals" (2014), & a pamphlet, "Quintessence of the Minor" (2010). He's the editor of Philip Lamantia's "Preserving Fire: Selected Prose" (2018), Samuel Greenberg's "Poems from the Greenberg MSS" (2019), & Michael McClure's "Mule Kick Blues and Last Poems" (2021), as well as the co-editor of "The Collected Poems of Philip Lamantia" (2013), "Particulars of Place" (2015) by Richard O. Moore, "Incidents of Travel in Poetry: New and Selected Poems" (2016) by Frank Lima, & "Arcana: A Stephen Jonas Reader" (2019). He is an editor at City Lights Books, where he curates the Spotlight Poetry Series. Originally broadcast from City Lights' Poetry Room on Thursday, May 22, 2024. Hosted by Peter Maravelis. The stunt came about thanks to a “norm-shattering” partnership between the Trump campaign and Aaron Klein, a 36-year-old reporter for Bannon's website, Breitbart News, who tracked down the women and cajoled them into attending.“In the history of modern presidential politics, no candidate had pulled off such a ruthless act of vengeance in public,” Peters writes. “It changed the game, proving to Trump and his allies that there was nothing off-limits anymore.” So pivotal was Klein's role in Trump's upset victory that Jared Kushner later told him, “My father-in-law wouldn't be president without you.” https://www.buzzfeednews.com/article/hnsgrassegger/george-soros-conspiracy-finkelstein-birnbaum-orban-netanyahu https://www.timesofisrael.com/hailing-yair-netanyahu-neo-nazi-site-puts-him-on-its-banner/ https://gaslitnation.libsyn.com/election-breakdown --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/the-antedote/support

Lee Camp interviews Matt Johnson, an animal rights activist with the group Direct Action Everywhere. He's currently facing felony charges for exposing the brutality of the factory farming industry. An Iowa pork producer was using brutal methods to massacre surplus pigs whose meat they couldn't harvest because of slowdowns in the Covid economy. Johnson faces serious jail time for helping a whistleblower show the world this torturous practice. The digital divide is a growing problem for rural communities and the poor across the country. Naomi Karavani reports on how different municipalities are addressing this problem without fundamentally addressing the corporate monopolization of telecom infrastructure. As we all become more reliant on access to the internet, many are realizing that it's time for that access to be guaranteed to all. Anders Lee looks at the fake fact-checking of people like Seth Abramson. The author and twitter personality has made a career out of throwing together roughshod "investigations" into popular issues for a commercial audience of liberals and providing them fact-free evidence for things they already want to believe.
This week we're continuing our Winter of Wayback season, in which we've been reading books, stories and essays from 1968, a year that parallels our current moment in a number of ways. Writer Lyz Lenz (God Land, Belabored) joins us to discuss a writer she admires from that era: Ellen Willis, who began her career as a music journalist but did some of her most important work on misogyny within the progressive movement. Also discussed: internet hate, why men love The Maltese Falcon, and the harassment Lyz has gotten in the wake of her recent profile of famous tweet thread guy Seth Abramson. We continue our celebration of the Jazz Standard's legacy, following the announcement of its untimely closure. The capacity to appeal to both the beginner and the long-time jazz fan, and to combine the familiar with the unfamiliar, were some of the many strengths of Seth Abramson's artistic direction. Through a number of concerts recorded live at the NoMad venue, we want to remember a jazz club that distinguished itself, in a city with countless jazz clubs, not only for the excellent programming but also for an atmosphere that was as welcoming to the musicians as it was to the audience. The playlist features Fred Hersch; Ben Allison; Mina Agossi; Steven Bernstein, Henry Butler & Hot 9; Dave Douglas [pictured]; Jakob Bro; David Gilmore; Dafnis Prieto; Edward Simon; Dena DeRose; Gary Bartz. The pandemic has claimed its first major New York City jazz club. Jazz Standard, which opened in 1997, has shut its doors. Recordings of many artists were made there, among them the Maria Schneider Orchestra, the Mingus Big Band, trumpeter Dave Douglas, and pianist Fred Hersch. Artistic director Seth Abramson says the reaction from the jazz community has been overwhelming. “The overarching sentiment is one of great loss and then one of great gratitude,” he said, “for having had the opportunity to be a part of the room and for the opportunity to play in and (be) given the freedom to express themselves.” It’s not all bad news though for Jazz Standard. The club’s owners say they hope to resurrect it somewhere at some point in the future. Abramson says the club had a unique vibe. “The club was a home and a venue for the artists and the fans to congregate,” he said. “It gave the artists a stage to do what they wanted to do and have their fans be able to be there and enjoy the entire

This week’s guest on Under The Skin is the rather incredible meta modern journalist and political analyst Seth Ambramson! Seth is an American professor, attorney, author, and political columnist. His teaching areas include digital journalism, post-internet cultural theory, post-internet writing, and legal advocacy. He has written several books including Proof of Corruption: Bribery, Impeachment, and Pandemic in the Age of Trump (2020) and Proof of Conspiracy: How Trump's International Collusion Is Threatening American Democracy (2019). We we drill down into why the political landscape is the way it is, if Donald Trump is the problem or actually just a symptom and how postmodernism created a culture of hopelessness! Seth proposes the benefits of the metamodernist approach and explains how the most rebellious amongst us aren’t those reliving the punk attitudes of the 70s but the people who are putting themselves out there, seemingly uncool and and being mocked for their efforts to create change. Enjoy! MORE INFO Seth’s new book Proof of Corruption is available now: https://us.macmillan.com/books/9781250273000 Proof of Corruption concludes a series that includes 2018's Proof of Collusion and 2019's Proof of Conspiracy. Proof of Corruption: Bribery, Impeachment, and Pandemic in the Age of Trump by Seth Abramson SethAbramson.net This stunning third entry in Seth Abramson's epic, New York Times bestselling Proof series reveals the harrowing scope of Trump bribery schemes involving COVID-19, the 2020 presidential election, and collusion with foreign officials in China, Ukraine, Turkey, Israel, Venezuela, Hungary, and Russia. Proof of Corruption traces in exacting detail the clandestine schemes of Trump and his cadre of agents and advisers from 2015 onward, with a special emphasis on Michael Cohen, Donald Trump Jr., Sean Hannity, Bill Barr, Roger Stone, Rudy Giuliani, Erik Prince, Michael Flynn, Lev Parnas, Jared Kushner, Paul Manafort, Rick Gates, Mick Mulvaney, Devin Nunes, Rick Perry, Mike Pompeo, Gordon Sondland, John Solomon, and Joe diGenova, as well as the president's most powerful foreign allies, including Vladimir Putin, Recep Erdogan, Benjamin Netanyahu, Xi Jinping, Mohammed bin Salman, Mohammed bin Zayed, Dmitry Firtash, Oleg Deripaska, Konstantin Kilimnik, Viktor Shokin, Yuri Lutsenko, and many others. While the facts of each Trump bribery scandal are complex, the pattern of corruption remains the same, whether it involves Trump seeking to appease Vladimir Putin by returning Ukraine's energy industry to Kremlin control; Trump freezing aid to Ukraine to extort bogus "intelligence" on Joe Biden from corrupt Ukrainian prosecutors; Trump escalating a trade war with China while privately cutting election-dirt deals with Xi Jinping; Trump ignoring November 2019 intelligence warning of a dangerous virus outbreak in China due to his business interests in Beijing; or Trump promoting a dangerous and ineffective treatment for COVID-19 at the behest of his richest campaign donors. With Donald Trump, all roads lead (by design) to personal enrichment. Sometimes he's seeking to fill his 2020 reelection coffers, and sometimes his illicit self-dealing and epic corruption center on his personal business relationships; sometimes the crimes and their subsequent cover-ups are domestic, and sometimes they're international. But the audacity of Trump's offenses and the need for byzantine schemes to hide them remains the same. With thousands of citations from the world's most respected media outlets, Proof of Corruption tells the story of a bribery and election-tampering scheme that crosses years and stretches from China to Ukraine, Turkey to Venezuela, Hungary to Israel, Russia to Saudi Arabia. It is a plot that empowers America's adversaries to author U.S. foreign policy and tamper with our elections even as it frees Donald Trump to replace America's national interest with his own. Proof of Corruption reveals a harrowing pattern of international and domestic bribery that is shocking, criminal, and a clear and present danger to America. Seth Abramson is a former criminal defense attorney and criminal investigator who teaches digital journalism, legal advocacy, and cultural theory at the University of New Hampshire. A regular political and legal analyst on CNN and the BBC during the Trump presidency, he is the author of eight books and editor of five anthologies. Abramson is a graduate of Dartmouth College, Harvard Law School, the Iowa Writers' Workshop, and the Ph.D. program in English at University of Wisconsin-Madison. He lives in New Hampshire with his wife and two one-year-old rescue hounds, Quinn and Scout.
RadioPublic|LibSyn|YouTube|Patreon|Square Cash (Share code: Send $5, get $5!) David Waldman makes “it” at least 110% of what “it is” today: Donald Trump took another interview again. Again, Trump made the mistake, the mistake he invariably makes in all interviews, of “replying”, which never does him any favors. Worse yet, Axios’ interviewer Jonathan Swan, never swayed by pity nor glee, kept offering Trump opportunities to reply, and his each reply was a perfect layup on the wrong side of the court. Swan wanted to discuss the proportion of COVID-19 deaths to the US population, but Trump could only talk of it compared to cases, which is like Swan asking to consider how many of Titanic’s passengers have died, but Trump only wanting to talk about the survival rate of lifeboat occupants. Trump believes that John Lewis could have been a bit more like Herman Cain. The Donald Trump Tremendous Health Care Plan, due yesterday, is due in a few weeks, maybe the end of the month, hopefully prior to the end of the month, or next. Indiana State suspends football practice for 14 days, because two weeks fixes everything. Kanye West is sullying his good name consorting with Republicans. Qanon needs Trump, Trump needs Qanon, no one needs either of them. Even Michael Flynn is finding little benefit from his association. Your boys have gone and done it again. We’re plunging away this week at the anticlimactic end to the Mueller saga. Lawyers don’t come off well in this one, folks. We didn’t even get the golden showers tape! What a wash. Speaking of the washed, Michael Avenatti (lawyer) has been arrested for attempting to extort Nike. We also have some exciting 2020 campaign news; of course we are referring to the upcoming debate on circumcision. In the opposition’s corner, we have Andrew Yang, the “intactivist” entrepreneur pushing bare-bones universal basic income. In Favor: our old pal Ben Shapiro (lawyer), the impish self-loathing racist behind the conservative rag the Daily Wire. In the pop culture corner,we discuss the 45th anniversary of the Grateful Dead’s infamous Wall of Sound and Woodstock 50’s soulless setlist, featuring headliners Jay-Z, Imagine Dragons, and Chance the Rapper, among many inexplicable others. To close out, Dan tortures the listeners with readings from yet another oafish former lawyer, Seth Abramson’s Tom Clancy-esque Russiagate conspiracy theories in his book Proof of Collusion. Today's episode sounds the alarm as to whether our activist right-wing Supreme Court is ready to effectively overturn Roe v. Wade and essentially permit the entire state of Louisiana to all but ban the right to an abortion in that state. We're NOT an alarmist podcast, but this is something you need to be watching. We also follow up on the Trump Shutdown, answer a listener question regarding our discussion of the Hilton lawsuit from last episode, and (of course) take our weekly visit to Yodel Mountain, this time on the back of one Roger Stone. Are these all just "process crimes?" And what the hell does that mean, anyway? Strap in and find out! We begin, however, with a brief look at the end of the Trump Shutdown and what's likely to come next. After that, we tackle some questions and misperceptions regarding our story of the lawsuit against Hilton hotels from Episode 248. Then, it's time for the main segment, which takes a look at a pending Supreme Court motion and discusses what this means for the future of Roe v. Wade and the right to a legal abortion in this country. Yes, it really is that significant. Then, it's time for a trip to Yodel Mountain to discuss "process crimes" rapid-fire round of questions about Trump's shutdown. Why is Congress still getting paid? Who can sue, and why haven't they? Find out the answers to these questions and more! We end, as always, with a brand new Thomas Takes the Bar Exam Question #112 about murder most foul! Sami and Bryan are here to ring in the new year by remembering the past one. They start by reviewing “Vice” the new movie about Dick Cheney’s power grab during the George W. Bush administration. They both found the movie fascinating and revealing. At 13:00 they talk about the chilling prospect of Trump being re-elected in 2020 and who the dems might be able to run against him. They also talk about the Seth Abramson thread revealing the extent of corruption in the 2016 election. At 33:30 they give out their 2018 awards for the year.

Abramson's work and commentary has also been featured by The Washington Post, The New York Times, New York Magazine, Newsweek, Vanity Fair, The Boston Globe, Politico, The Wall Street Journal, Roll Call, USA Today, NPR, Politico, The Atlantic, Rolling Stone, The Washington Post, The Guardian, The Chicago Tribune, The New Yorker, Newsweek and many other news outlets. To support The Chauncey DeVega Show during this December fundraising month you can make a donation via Paypal at chaunceydevega.com or at Patreon. Abramson explains how special counsel Robert Mueller is conducting one of the most sophisticated and thorough investigations in American history into Trump's collusion with Russia and the ways that Donald Trump and his cabal have repeatedly shown that they are guilty. Abramson also provides an insider's perspective on what it must be like to be Donald Trump's attorneys and how Robert Mueller's team is responding to the mountains of evidence--and foolish, obvious, apparently criminal behavior--that is the Trump-Russia scandal. Abramson makes a prediction: Robert Mueller's investigation will be successful and Donald Trump's only salvation will come from staying in the White House as long as possible to avoid being put in prison. On this week's podcast Chauncey explains why the Trump-Russia scandal is about more than "just" collusion and treason but a fight for the soul of the country and any effort to defend the social safety net and those of us who are not members of the 1 percent from the global plutocrats and their culture of cruelty. To that end, Chauncey shares a story about the heroic women who stood up to Donald Trump by telling The New York Times about what it is like to be undocumented workers at his New Jersey golf club and where they also take care of his home there. And of course, Chauncey shares a wonderful story about a great and brave doggie animal family member friend who guarded their human being's home and waited for them to return after the recent California inferno. Mueller catches Trump in lies about his Russian ties, just the latest in a series of Republican presidents passing off significant lies on the American public. ------ Recently re-elected progressive Senator from Ohio, Sherrod Brown has a plan to keep American manufacturing here despite the Republican tax cut incentivizing moving factories out of the U.S.. ------ Senator Bernie Sanders has a plan to stop the Pharma Cartel from overcharging Medicare for drugs. And, he's outraged about Trump's support for murderous Saudi Arabia, and Trump's other con jobs. Callers express support for the Progressive platform of Bernie, Sherrod Brown, and Merkeley, as well as there disgust with the lying grifter-in-chief's money-making schemes. ------ As Trump's accountant is raided by the FBI, Thom compares Trump's high crimes to Nixon's. How did we get here?- And should we impeach? Callers respond. ------ Thom reads from 'Proof of Collusion' by Seth Abramson, on Trump's early Russian connections, such as possibly sharing a model girlfriend with an up & coming Vladimir Putin. ------ Progressive Senator Jeff Merkley makes the case for his and Bernie's bills to negotiate fair drug prices for Medicare. ------ Thom deftly takes insightful listener calls on subjects raised during the program.
Thom considers whether Republicans may be guilty of violating not only traditional American values of democracy, but also federal laws including The Help America Vote Act. How should we be improving our voting systems? -------- Callers chime in with their support for Beto in 2020, and other thoughts. Jeanette in Mr. Vernon thinks Democrats will lose if they run another corporate Democrat- and not a Progressive like Beto- for president. -------- The company that makes a life-saving opiate overdose drug has raised the price from $440 to over $2000. What could go wrong? -------- Talk Media News headline time with Ellen Rattner. -------- Laura Wallach of Public Citizen's Tradewatch talks NAFTA 2.0 with Thom. -------- Thom reads from 'Proof of Collusion: How Trump Betrayed America' by Seth Arbramson. -------- And finally, Thom interviews author Seth Abramson as he lays out the accumulated evidence that our president is unduly influenced by President 'Thumbs Up and a Smile' Putin.

This week’s guest is Dr. Zak Stein, an author and educator whom I met as fellow students of the work of philosopher Ken Wilber over ten years ago. Zak took the road of serious high academic scholarship while I was learning the less laudable and messier way through immersion in the arts and entertainment world, but here we are converging to discuss one of the most important issues of our time: the need for a new human story that includes both modernity’s rigorous scientific inquiry and postmodernity’s revelation of how everything we know is framed by language, culture, and perspective. Without some clever, soulful balance of the two we’re stuck in a “post-truth” era where our need for answers to our fundamental questions leads us backwards into “isms” instead of forwards into something more good, true, and beautiful than what has come before.Zak’s answer (like so many other guests on Future Fossils) is to get MORE rigorous about the scope and limits of the world disclosed by science, MORE honest with ourselves about the context-bound claims we can make on knowledge, and MORE open to how all “reality” starts in direct experience, as conscious subjects – where we meet to make new, open-ended, ever-more refined, evolving answers to the questions:What is human? What is love? What are we here to do?Read Zak’s new paper, “Love in a Time Between Worlds: On the Metamodern ‘Return’ to a Metaphysics of Eros”:http://www.zakstein.org/love-in-a-time-between-worlds/‘Where modern scientists often critique the claims of metaphysics as unverifiable and thus untrue, postmodernists critique both science and metaphysics for making truth claims in the first place. Either way, to call an idea or theory “metaphysical” has become another way of saying it is unacceptable. Often with comes with some implication that the theory is a kind of superstition, which means metaphysics is taken not as an attempt to engage the truth but rather as a kind of covert power play or psychological defense mechanism. I argue the opposite: metaphysics is what saves us from a descent into discourses that are merely about power and illusion. Believe it or not, there are metaphysical systems that survived postmodernism and popped-out of the far end of the 1990’s with “truth” and “reality” still intact. These include object oriented ontology and dialectical critical realism, among others.’Zak is also the Co-Presdient and Academic Director at the Center for Integral Wisdom:https://centerforintegralwisdom.org/…and on the scientific advisor board at Neurohacker Collective:https://neurohacker.com/— In this episode we discuss:Lewis Mumford, Ken Wilber, Barbara Marx Hubbard, Jurgen Habermas, Seth Abramson, Timothy Morton, Rudolf Steiner, Alfred North Whitehead, Hanzi Freinacht, Daniel Schmachtenberger, Jordan Greenhall, and many other luminaries.Right-wing and authoritarian political thought is resurgent today because of the absence of reasonable discourse about metaphysical realities during a time when exactly these realties are being put in question due to the apocalypse of global capitalism and the accompanying planetary transition into the Anthropocene .The way we answer questions like, “What is the human?” will determine the next century because of the emerging power of new technologies that render the human mailable in unpresented ways, which has been made clear by writers like Yuval Harari.“The difference between metaphysics and science is not about what you can see and what you cannot see. It is about what you are paying attention to when you are seeing.”“What we call postmodernism is just modernism with the volume turned WAY up.”The difference between modern, postmodern, and metamodern views on science and the realities disclosed by science. What does it mean to cut a definition of the human out of our education systems? The relevance of Rudolf Steiner’s metaphysics and pedagogy in 21st Century education – especially its attention to subjectivity and interiority. How fundamentalism, nationalism, racism, and other regressive movements in society are symptoms of a postmodern assault on consensus reality.“In the absence of metaphysics, there’s a vacuum of meaning…what can step into that is not always pretty.”“After postmodernism, we can’t return to some pat, totalizing answer for everybody. After postmodernism, when we begin to build a new coherence, it’s always going to be a polycentric and dynamic and always renegotiated coherence. And that’s what science ought to be, which is to say, knowledge building, and not knowledge finding. Period.”“Ideas matter – and right now, we live in a context where ideas matter only insofar as they can be leveraged for clicks on websites that generate advertisement revenue.”When did we start gladly giving our decision-making powers over to others? And who do we trust now when we know that expertise is so contextual and frequently abused?Making the Earth into a giant building is the beginning of metamodern history – the Anthropocene signaling our deep relationship with the ecosphere.Michael reveals his vision of an Eclipse Station & Black Madonna University as a nobler motivation for a second “space race.”We’ve succeeded in making mega-machines out of people but need to reframe what it means to be IN relationship…Hyperobjects and a metamodern investigation of synchronicity and time…the objectivity of time is tricky.“Animals do not build sundials, even though they would benefit greatly from them. And so you’ll notice that one of the things that sets humans apart is their ability to make metaphysics – that they relate to things that are objectively real, like time.”The eternal and the everlasting – two different things.“Who gets to decide, and how do we get to decide, on these deep questions?”“To reify a false and truncated metaphysics – for example, to say that love doesn’t exist, that free will doesn’t actually exist – to really try to build institutions based on that, which would result in a radically authoritarian society – these things have been done. But never with the technological power that we now have to, for example, to build a school around that hypothesis. Or an army. And so there’s this very sincere need to make sure that as we move through this period, we’re keeping the voices who want to simplify and reduce and return to modernity and the monological at bay. So applaud, the postmodernists, but we also want to get beyond the postmodern critique, and the whole spirit and emotion of critique, and somehow move into a space where we’re reconstructing a new metanarrative, instead of taking potshots and deconstructing anyone who steps up to offer a metanarrative. After postmodernism it needs to be provisional, polycentric, built iteratively through collaboration. But there needs to be a project in good spirits in that direction. Because the regressive tendencies on the right who want to drive us toward racism and nationalism are having questions about, ‘What is the human?,’ and answering them irrationally. We need to have VERY reasonable and profound answers to questions like, ‘What is human?,’ ‘What are we here on Earth to do?,’ ‘What is a relationship?,’ ‘How important are relationships?,’ ‘What is love?,’ ‘Is love real?’, ‘What’s the significance of love?’…these things are part of what it means to be human.”How do we build a just and humane, “post-tragic” culture on the other side of the Crisis of the Anthropocene? We are all dependent on unjust and ecologically devastating supply chains…now what?“Hate creates externalities. Love creates no externalities.”The logic of the metamodern system has to be one in which there are no externalities.Support this show on PatreonJoin the Facebook GroupSubscribe on Apple PodcastsSubscribe on Google PodcastsSubscribe on StitcherSubscribe on SpotifySubscribe on iHeart Radio See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

I started following Seth Abramson on Twitter more than a year ago, and saw his feed as a keyhole into Robert Mueller's investigation. I found his ability to sift the signal from the noise in the realm of Trump-Russia investigation to be unparalleled, and have been simultaneously pleased that he's been right about everything thus far and horrified that he's been right about everything thus far. In this interview, we talk about how this past year of Twitter notoriety has affected him personally, his broad explanation of the different threads that Robert Mueller might be looking at, and what gives him hope that we will be able to get off this knife's edge
A leading legal voice on Twitter, Renato Mariotti has become known for his regular threads alongside Seth Abramson and others commenting on the latest developments in the Trump/Russia probe. Oftentimes deciphering what the implications are after a piece of breaking news works its way through the body politic, Renato's insights have landed him as a guest on MSNBC, CNN, and a host of other outlets. Growing up in a lower-middle class home to parents who never graduated college, Renato's family emphasized the importance of education. Despite his modest upbringing, Renato went on to graduate from Yale Law School and become a federal prosecutor for nine years going after white-collar criminals. Some of his more high-profile cases include prosecuting the first-ever high-frequency trader who was engaging in illegal activities. This background and experience has allowed Mariotti to have valuable insight into the mind of Bob Mueller and the legal ramifications of every action and subpoena. Renato's running in a crowded field for Illinois Attorney General, and the statewide primary election is on Tuesday, March 20th. We were fortunate enough to sit down with him to discuss his race, his background, Bob Mueller's probe, and why he's optimistic for the future.
