POPULARITY
On this episode I'm joined by Bleed vocalist and guitarist, Ryan Hughes. We talk all about the band's new self-titled debut album, why it took several years to put together, being signed to 20 Buck Spin, working with Olli Appleyard of Static Dress, and loads more.A new episode will be released every Thursday.-----HOW TO SUPPORT THE PODCAST:

My guests this week are Olli Appleyard (vocals) and Sam Ogden (drums) of Static Dress. We talked about the sometimes unfortunate downfalls of being unapologetically yourself, their recent signing to the prestigious Roadrunner Records, being invited to Bring Me The Horizon's Malta weekender...and much more. As they weren't on tour - accomodation for the guests on this episode of the podcast was paid for by the lovely people on The Downbeat Patreon. It's a quid.

Formed in 2014, As December Falls are a long way from their beginnings. The band achieved self-sufficiency early on as a matter of survival after being told they were ‘too this' and ‘too that' from the industry gatekeepers when looking to release their self-titled debut album in 2019 (which has received over 4 million streams to date). Their DIY attitude and business know-how resulted in the band selling out 90% of shows on their most recent headline tour around the UK and appearing at Slam Dunk Festival, 2000 Trees, Tramlines Festival, Camden Rocks, Czech's Rock For People to name a few. In October 2022, As December Falls headed out on their first European tour, playing to sold-out shows in Berlin, Kassel, Hamburg, Oberhausen and Prague. Join The Club (due July 2023 via InGrooves) is set to be an important release for As December Falls - their chart-eligible third album may be their heaviest yet and is markedly more attitude-laden than 2021's “Happier”, which is perhaps the most noticeable on acoustic single “Home” where self-assuredness runs throughout. As December Falls worked with producers John Mitchell (on Go Away) and Alex Copp (Frank Carter & The Rattlesnakes), mix engineers Ian Dowling (on Home - One Direction, Kasabian, McBusted) and Stevie Knight (Yours Truly, Stand Atlantic) and Grant Berry (All Time Low,, Static Dress) for mastering to bring Join The Club to life. As December Falls's fiercely independent streak is out in full force on their forthcoming record.

As of this recording, The Gaslight Anthem's ‘Get Hurt' is the band's last album. As we brace ourselves for whatever may come in the future, whether it's a new album or what may be, we reflect on the band's swansong and how it stacks up when compared to its predecessors. Although it's a divisive record amongst the fanbase and even with Brian Fallon himself, Adam and Mike share their thoughts 8 years after the first time they reviewed it on the show and talk about what these songs mean to them and how it relates to their own lives. We hope you've been enjoying our Retrospective series on The Gaslight Anthem up until this point! Please be sure to check out the previous four episodes if you haven't already! And we thank you for spending some time with us and our show!
