Welcome back to Fashion and Founders the Podcast. My name is Victoria Smith and this week I am joined by Claire Stepanek, the founder and CEO of Ergo. Have you ever wondered how brands decide on the price of an item. Or why it seems like brands always have a 10% off sale? Maybe you would buy something if it was $25 instead of $28? Claire is building Ergo, a shopify tool that allows potential customers to make an offer of their best price when shopping. Providing brands with real time pricing analytics and empowering customers to have a voice in the shopping transaction. If youre used to sending an offer on second hand platforms like ebay or depop Ergo is bringing a version of this to everyday online shopping by allowing customers to tell brands their desired price. Claire went to MIT and worked at Goldman Sachs, Apple, and Doordash before starting Ergo in 2023. She has so much knowledge to share on fashion tech, fundraising, and more. Claire Stepanek is the founder and CEO of ergo, a startup developing pricing software that gives consumers an option to negotiate pricing with retailers through an online software plugin. Stepanek came up with the idea for ergo while working on the supply chain team at Apple, which manages the vendors that make the parts that flow into Apple products, where she found the most successful strategy for often negatively labeled “stressful negotiations” was to be authentic and keep it simple. Claire and ergo's vision is to build out analytics for stores so they can gain value while also boosting revenue and sales and learning about the market. The company is also working to get products and features out for the impending holiday shopping season.

Today's talk is with David Stepanek – the Executive Vice President and Chief Transformation Officer of Bristow. So where we talk often talk to those building vehicles in AAM – here we have an industry leader who is committed to the opportunities of AAM – is confident that AAM will improve Bristow's performance, reduce costs, and improve their position with sustainability. David describes how Bristow has the vision and are a leader in innovative and sustainable vertical flight solutions. Listen to what they project will be a meaningful cost reduction of AAM vs. the helicopters they're operating today – both in reducing up front capital requirements as well as reducing long term operating costs – they believe they can reduce their direct operating costs by 60-70%. He believes Bristow will receive a meaningful return from AAM around 2030 – with a heavier contribution after 2035. He describes how urban air mobility will eventually be successful…it will probably be on a longer timeframe than most are thinking today…that there are a number of risks and challenges most are not considering today…and to scale will be more difficult than it first appears.Listen to the section on where David believes is the most value in AAM – from OEM, to Operator, to MRO, to Infrastructure and Systems – great section…and his impression of where the greater value is may be a surprise to some.As much as David and Bristow are leading their industry with AAM ….he's also careful, realistic, and pragmatic in his approach – this is not just a cheerleader or a one-sided promoter of AAM – he has and you'll be listening to a balanced perspective. Many thanks to David for joining us!

Link to bioRxiv paper: http://biorxiv.org/cgi/content/short/2023.03.19.531556v1?rss=1 Authors: Dibus, N., Salyova, E., Kolarova, K., Pagano, M., Stepanek, O., Cermak, L. Abstract: SKP1-CUL1-F-box protein (SCF) ubiquitin ligases are versatile protein complexes that mediate the ubiquitination of substrates, which are recognized by their F-box-domain-containing subunits. One of these substrate receptors is FBXO38. Its gene has been found to be mutated in several families with early-onset distal hereditary motor neuronopathy. SCFFBXO38 ubiquitin ligase controls the stability of ZXDB, a nuclear factor associated with the centromeric chromatin protein CENP-B. Moreover, the loss of FBXO38 results in growth retardation and defect in spermatogenesis characterized by deregulation of the Sertoli cell transcription program and centromere integrity. A report by Meng et al. proposed that SCFFBXO38 regulates the protein levels of the PD-1 inhibitory receptor (also known as CD279, PDCD1) in T cells. Here, we have re-addressed the conclusions by Meng et al. using Fbxo38KO/KO mice and cell systems. We have found no evidence indicating that FBXO38 controls the abundance and stability of PD-1. There's no avoiding times or even long seasons of feeling as if a Godzilla-sized anchor is pulling you down into a swirling vortex of misery so you'll never see the light of day again, right? However, there are animating principles that can enable us to better endure the slog through the darkest valley and even thrive in the midst of the journey. In this episode we'll mine for insights from some inspiring figures (see below for a sneak-peak) who have shown us that suffering can, by clarifying what's most important, not only strengthen but shape us into more caring, empathetic people who have an enhanced capacity to bless others. "I can’t trust my own mind, or my memory, so I’m writing all of this down… There’s been a murder in this town and I’m determined to get to the bottom of it." Aaron Grayling hates summer. It’s a time of heat and humidity in the dreary town of Meriville. It’s also the time when the bad dreams come, which have been intensifying since the death of his father. He hardly seems to find the space to breathe… Until the fateful day he finds a diary in the woods. Penned by the mysterious X, it hints at a shadowy world of murder that seems too true for the boy to ignore. Torn between school and a murder investigation, Aaron finds himself an unlikely companion in X. Can they stop the crimewave from hitting Meriville before it's too late? And will it help Aaron understand the turbulent goings-on in his head? Hidden Lives is a powerful novel of friendship and loss, and staying true to who you are against the odds. New Podcast with Actor Brian Stepanek! In this installation of "Kahnversations," we interview Brian Stepanek. Brian has done a lot of stuff. Go to IMDB. They list all of it. Even the stuff he wishes they didn’t. For example, he’s worked extensively for The Disney Channel, appearing as Arwin Hawkhauser on the original series THE SUITE LIFE OF ZACK & CODY. He also played Brian in BRIAN O’BRIAN. In film, he appeared in THE ISLAND, Michael Bay’s TRANSFORMERS, and recently played the role of Rufus Youngblood in the film LBJ, directed by Rob Reiner. He currently plays Tom Harper, the father of quadruplets on Nickelodeon's NICKY, RICKY, DICKY & DAWN. He has directed two episodes of that show as well. Brian lives in Los Angeles with his wife and three children. He is exhausted but really happy. You can download or subscribe to the podcast for FREE by clicking below. If you like “Kahnversations,” please leave a rating or review on our iTunes page! There are so many inspiring podcasts with fabulous stars out there. But their careers feel light years away from ours, don’t they? Wouldn’t it be great to hear from the guy who just booked his first pilot? Or the kid finally doing a studio pic after a bunch of low budget indies? Or the woman who’s been a series regular a few times but is only now becoming a name? What about the guy who’s been on a show for years and you know his face but what’shisnameagain? Or that actress who is now a freakin’ showrunner???? How’d THEY do it, right? How did they transition from relative obscurity, bartending and bottle service, to buying that house in Brentwood? We’re producing “Kahnversations,” a podcast that provides access to THOSE people -- your immediate predecessors -- so that you can learn from them while their battle scars are still fresh. In “Kahnversations,” our own Ryan Bailey interviews some of Lesly Kahn & Company’s working actors, directors, and writers in order to learn how they got started in Hollywood, the challenges and hurdles they faced, and how they overcame the odds. (They also dish out some crazy stories!) Listen in and enjoy as these entertainers speak candidly about their paths, processes, and experiences. You might even hear a bit about how Lesly and the Kahnstitute have influenced and shaped their careers.
