SISTERHOOD OF SWEAT - Motivation, Inspiration, Health, Wealth, Fitness, Authenticity, Confidence and Empowerment

Welcome to another episode of The Sisterhood of Sweat! I'm so excited to have the talented actor Nambi Nylumbi join us today. Nambi is best known for his roles on shows like Night Court, The Good Fight, and Mike & Molly. But his journey to success is truly inspiring. Nambi shared an amazing story about how a simple act of kindness - a stranger giving him $20 on the street - ended up changing the trajectory of his career. That $20 got him to an important audition, which led to booking his breakout role on Mike & Molly. And the rest, as they say, is history. Nambi has such a positive and grateful outlook on life. He's proof that with hard work, talent, and a little bit of luck, you can achieve your dreams. I know our listeners are going to be uplifted and motivated by his story. So without further ado, let's dive into my conversation with the one and only Nyambi Nyambi! Questions Asked: Are you still living in New York City? Did you see yourself growing up as an actor like when you were younger, what did you want to be? Can you tell us how $20 changed your life? Tell us why you want people to watch Night Court. What is going to be their blessing from that?

Jimmy Burrows has directed more than one thousand episodes of sitcom television and has earned eleven Emmy Awards and five Directors Guild of America Awards. In 1974 he began his television career directing episodes of The Mary Tyler Moore Show, The Bob Newhart Show, and Laverne and Shirley. He became the resident director on Taxi and co-created Cheers, directing 243 of the 273 episodes, as well as all 246 episodes of Will and Grace. He has directed the pilots of multiple episodes of Frasier, Friends, Mike & Molly, the pilots of Two and a Half Men and The Big Bang Theory, and hundreds of other shows.  His new book is titled: Directed by James Burrows: Five Decades of Stories from the Legendary Director of Taxi, Cheers, Frasier, Will & Grace, and More.      Some interesting insights from this episode: He operates with kindness. Everyone has to row together and pull equally with everyone else. He doesn't allow ego to get in the way. He has the perfect temperament for TV directing. He doesn't lose his temper, he's patient, he has low ego, and he knows how to encourage others. He feels as a director it's important to “die with your boots on”. That is, to try to do something to make a difference.  To provide input to make the best show possible. When deciding whether to work on a show, he likes to meet with the writer and have him/her defend themselves but not be defensive. When asked about same-sex marriage, then Vice President Joe Biden said, “I think Will & Grace probably did more to educate the American public than almost anything anybody's ever done so far. People fear that which is different. Now they're beginning to understand.” His success is attributed to his ability to create a harmony on the set so everyone's involved in making the show better. On his sets, you have to check your ego at the door. “Excellence is to try to be the best you can be in your particular field.”   Notes: Book: Directed by James Burrows: Five Decades of Stories from the Legendary Director of Taxi, Cheers, Frasier, Friends, Will & Grace, and More

I remember the first time Kev asked me to perform on stage. And let me be clear – he didn't ask me to speak, he asked me to SING. That triggered a whole ‘nother level of freak out, but I made myself say yes and the rest is history – to this day folks in the industry talk about that first performance I did in front of my colleagues. That's why I love that I got to talk to Kev about what it takes to put yourself out there as an entertainer. I think you're gonna get a lot out of this one.  Can't-Miss Moments From This Episode:Let's get meta: Kev and I explore the behind-the-scenes work that goes into putting on a podcast, what makes a great guest, and the staggering “7 episode” statistic that derails most would-be podcast creators When seconds count: how Kev thinks through preparing for a speaking engagement when it has to come in right on time. With no room for over or under, how does he nail the timing? How I went from newbie podcast host to recording enough content for an entire year inside 4 months (hint: there was a lot of making it up as I went)  What do you do when your performance or gig or speech bombs? (Bonus: massive fail stories from me and Kev's time on stage) “Don't tell me what to do” – a counterintuitive parenting approach that works in just about any kind of business or personal situation (especially if you want to keep that relationship!) This one is jam-packed full of awesome. He currently stars in the Emmy nominated Bob Hearts Abishola, which has just been renewed for another season. The series is about Billy’s character, Bob Wheeler, having a heart attack and falling in love with his nurse Abishola, a Nigerian immigrant. The message, which has resonated with viewers nationwide, is heartwarming: If you are lucky enough to find someone you fall for and they fall back for you, size, shape and color doesn’t matter. In real life, however, it isn’t Billy’s heart that’s an issue, it’s his Type 2 diabetes. To that end, on this segment he and Jane not only talk about his stellar career but also his partnership with Novo Nordisk on the revolutionary “My Type 2 Transformation” campaign. Indeed, it is through Billy’s personal adherence to this innovative yet practical program that he has learned to manage his own Type 2 diabetes by prioritizing his diet and lifestyle, enabling him to look slimmer and trimmer and feel Better Than Before.

Eventually Rico moved to Los Angeles and has been blessed to have many film, television, voice over and theatre credits to his name. Actress Mo Gaffney was on the seminal show Absolutely Fabulous and rest assured she is absolutely fabulous. After launching to stardom with the off-Broadway show The Kathy and Mo Show (which she created with friend Kathy Najimy), Gaffney went on to: a) Win Obie awards for it; b) Make it into an HBO show; c) Work non-stop, on everything from That '70s Show to Friends to Mad About You to Mike & Molly to pretty much every other show you can name. It may be inappropriate to say this when you're writing about a recovery podcast but it's clear Gaffney was what's known as a fun drunk. Still, after becoming a mom and noticing, increasingly, how drinking was negatively impacting her life, she sobered up—joining five other siblings and her mom in recovery. In this episode, she and AfterParty's Anna David discuss martinis, pretending to take ecstasy, missing smoking and craving a companion to read with, among many other topics. Maura Kelly of MarieClaire online wrote how she didn't want to watch "Mike & Molly" with two fat people being lovey-dovey. Sharon Osbourne (who has battled obesity) of "The Talk" lambasted her. With the trend which is contributing to a major health and financial crisis in the country, how do we handle this id no one is allowed to talk about it. Well on this show we will talk about it. I would like people on both sides to call in for a CIVIL discussion. Let's come up with steps to solving the issue by educating each other GENTLY.
