Singer-songwriter Taeko Onuki released the landmark album SUNSHOWER in 1977. Taeko and this album where maybe a little ahead of their time. This jazz fusion pop record sold pretty poorly when it first came out and audiences weren't too keen on this new, strange music. As time has gone on, it received a much more positive reception and has gone on to be reissued a few times and is now seen as a progenitor of the City Pop sound. Music writer Patrick St. Michel joins us to talk about his experience interviewing Taeko Onuki, the incredible personnel on this incredible album, and how ahead of the game SUNSHOWER really was. Researchers at OpenAI, the company that made ChatGPT, have open-sourced datasets from a nascent effort aimed at building an automated tool to explain how large language models work. They discussed their efforts in a paper they published yesterday on their website. IBM, at its annual think conference yesterday released a new AI platform and tools. And for fans of the Nintendo Switch, the eponymous company's latest results won't bring any cheer. Sales of the hand-held console have dropped, dimming the prospect of an update to the product. Notes: IBM has launched Watsonx, an AI and data platform aimed at helping enterprises deploy AI models quickly and cost-effectively. The platform will provide businesses with a full technology stack for training, tuning, and deploying AI models, including IBM-curated and trained foundation models and machine learning capabilities. IBM Watsonx.ai and IBM Watsonx.data will offer an AI development studio with foundation models, tools for training and tuning, and a data store for training and tuning data, and an optimized data store built on open lakehouse architecture optimized for governed data and AI workloads. The platform will be available from July 2023. OpenAI researchers have proposed an automated approach to producing natural language explanations of individual components, including neurons and attention heads, in neural networks. The proposed method uses GPT-4 to generate and score explanations of neuron behaviour. The authors are open-sourcing their datasets and visualization tools for GPT-4 written explanations, with hopes that the research community will develop new techniques for generating higher-scoring explanations and better tools for exploring language models. Nintendo has reported a 5.5 percent YoY decrease in revenue for its fiscal year, with the 22 percent fall in sales of its flagship Switch console contributing to the decline. Net profit fell by more than 9 percent to JPY432.7bn. Nintendo sold 17.97 million Switch units, in line with its forecast, compared with 23 million the previous year. The company has cited a shortage of semiconductors and other components as affecting production. Zyngo EV Mobility, a Gurugram-based logistics service provider, has raised $5m in pre-Series A funding led by Delta Corp Holdings, with participation from LC Nueva Investment Partners. Zyngo offers last-mile delivery solutions through a fleet of electric vehicles, targeting B2B and B2C customers, with a unique "asset-light model" acting as an intermediary between supply and demand in the market. The company aims to deploy 18,000+ zero-emission EV fleets across India by 2025 and intends to launch a hyperlocal B2C delivery mobile app. Realme has launched the realme C55 Rainforest edition, a smartphone with a green hue meant to evoke the essence of a rainforest. The phone is powered by MediaTek Helio G88 Chipset and has a 17.07cm (6.72'') 90Hz FHD+ display, the largest in this price segment. The realme C55 also has ‘Mini Capsule' and Sunshower design features, and up to 16GB of dynamic RAM.

It was 1976, and Disco was hot. While Donna Summer, Barry White, Gloria Gaynor, and the Salsoul Orchestra churned out the genre's early standards, there were also your usual oddities in the shelves, from the overtly sexy to the downright novelty. Dr. Buzzard's Original Savannah Band was neither, and in fact, they weren't even Disco. However, their carefree lyrics and tight danceable musicianship fit beautifully with the times.Co-founded by brothers August Darnell (aka Kid Creole) and Stony Browder Jr., Dr. Buzzard's drew influences from the big-band and swing eras, as well as Soul, Latin, Jazz, and African sounds, and came up with a fresh and lush fusion that was ready for the funky feet.At its very core was the sensual, silky and exuberant voice of Cory Daye, who was more than happy to stay in the background and let the men call the shots. That was, of course, until they buckled under pressure and Cory had no choice but to step out front, give life to August's lyrics of the “tragic mulatto” and Stony's dazzling arrangements, and in the process, create one of the most enchanting postcards of the early Disco years.Note: In the episode we mention that Stony Browder Jr. passed on in 1991. He actually passed on in 2001. Visit us at shapedbydog.com An old adage in dog training is that the best time to fix a problem or behavior challenge is before it happens. And though that may be true, it does not help when you have a problem or training challenge! There's a systemic approach that I've laid out for myself and my students for any challenge we have with our dogs. In the episode you'll hear: • A long list of problems presented by just one dog who was a bit over a year old. • How that dog was thrown out of 3 Day Cares and lost his home. • Why Dr. Google might not be your best source of information for dog training. • How everyone has an opinion about dog training. • The way I look at dog training challenges and why to take an inventory. • About the categories of challenges in dog training. • Why we create autonomy for our dogs and how that creates success. • How to know if you have a Sun Shower, Hurricane or Iceberg with your dog. • The reason to watch for Icebergs. • When Hurricanes might need a Veterinary Behaviorist to diffuse. • The formula to help you with challenges that starts in Do-Land. • Why we need to deal with our dog's emotion first. It's been way too long since I uploaded my first Japan City Pop DJ-Mix, which became an overnight success and with 11.600+ listeners to date my most popular mix on Mixcloud by far. It's really amazing, how many people seem to share my passion for City Pop (シティーポップShitī Poppu), the sound, that emerged from booming urban Japan in the late 70s and early 80 and I want to take once again the opportunity for a very warm-hearted “domo arigato gozai-mashita” (-_-) for all the love and support you have been giving that mix. This time I start in 1977 with "Summer Connection" of Taeko Ohnuki's wonderful album “Sun Shower”, play many sun-kissed vibes by Tatsuro Yamashita, Toshiki Kadomatsu and more to end the mix with a song called “Sun Shower”, produced in 1989 by Japan's Proto-House pioneer Soichi Terada, whom I had the pleasure to meet one year ago at the Kaga Music Festival. Mixed last night before the hottest day in German history (40°C max) this truly deserves the name “Sunshower Mix”.

I'm your guest host, Jesse Ferguson, also known as the Bard of Cornwall on YouTube. I'm a Celtic music performer, recording artist and YouTuber based in Cornwall, Ontario, Canada. My own music has been featured in the Irish & Celtic Music Podcast over 20 times in the last 10 years, so it's fair to say that our usual host, Marc Gunn, has been a big supporter of my music. I'm very grateful for that support, so when he asked me to guest host an episode, I jumped at the chance. This episode of the podcast will feature music that has a personal connection for me, from artists who have inspired me in my early folk music days, to those I know personally from my area, to those I've performed with live in venues from Canada's east coast to my original and current province of Ontario. But, on with the music. First I'll play you “Brennan on the Moor” off my next CD, The Sally Gardens. I had fun arranging the harmonies in the chorus. "Brennan on the Moor" by Jesse Ferguson from The Sally Gardens The next two songs are by the now disbanded Cornwall, Ontario group Haggis, that were hugely influential in getting me into Celtic music. 4:18 "Loch Lomond" by Haggis from This Ain't Your Mother's Cooking 9:50 "Medley of Minors" by Haggis from This Ain't Your Mother's Cooking That was “Loch Lomond” followed by “Medley of Minors” from their 1999 album, This Ain't Your Mother's Cooking, which can be streamed free on Sounclick.com. A couple of the original members of Haggis have also contributed newer material to this episode, including their drummer Jason Mitchell, whose latest group is called Heroes of the Highland. Here are two of their latest recordings: 14:12 "Irish Rover" by Heroes of the Highland from Heroes of the Highland 17:06 "Drunken Sailor" by Heroes of the Highland from Heroes of the Highland That was “The Irish Rover” followed by “Drunken Sailor” by Heroes of the Highland. The original flute player for Haggis, Brent Santin, has also gone on to do new recordings, and has contributed two to this episode. Here he is performing “A Scarborough Settler's Lament” with Gary Mallon. 20:07 "Scarborough Settler's Lament" by Brent Santin & Gary Mallon from Sounds Like the 19th Century And here is one of Brent's solo efforts, which incorporates some more electronic elements: 25:00 "Tear Down the Sink, Dear" by Brent Santin Nick Seguin, lead singer of Haggis, was a major influence on my vocal style for folk music. Another of my main influences is our next artist, Scotsman Jim Malcolm. His former work with the band Old Blind Dogs, and his solo material have been very important for me. He now records with his wife Susie Malcolm, herself a talented musician. The first track here is the Robbie Burns song “A Man's a Man for a' That,” followed by a track from Jim and Susie's latest album Spring Will Follow On. 29:32 "A Man's a Man" by Jim Malcolm from Acquaintance 33:33 "Pad the Road" by Jim Malcolm & Susie Malcolm from Spring Will Follow On That was Jim Malcolm's “A Man's a Man for A' That” and Jim and Susie Malcolm's “Pad the Road.” The region of Eastern Ontario where I reside has a strong tradition of Celtic music, which derives from the huge influx of Scottish immigrants to the region. The tradition here is alive and kicking, and from my early days getting into Celtic music, it has incorporated pride in our past with embracing modern musical approaches. In that spirit, here are two songs from Glengarry, Ontario band Bang on the Ear. 37:37 "The Rising of the 45" by Bang on the Ear from Tales from the Glen 41:40 "Thistle and the Rose" by Bang on the Ear from Songs for Glengarry, Vol. 1 That was “The Rising of the 45” and “Thistle and the Rose” by Bang on the Ear. The next two songs are by another Glengarry, Ontario group, The 2 Paddys. They've long been a fixture of The Glengarry Highland Games, in Maxville, which was a crucial place for nurturing my love of Celtic music. Here are their recordings of “The Foggy Dew” and “The Galway Races.” 45:31 "The Foggy Dew" by The Two Paddys 48:45 "The Galway Races" by The Two Paddys Next we head to Majorca (my-OR-kah), Spain for two tracks from TinWhistler, a duo of brothers whose videos on YouTube I've been a fan of for years. We Celtic podcasters and Youtubers need to support each other, so I was delighted that they were willing to send us these two tracks. 51:18 "Castle Kelly/The Man of the House" by TinWhistler from TinWhistler 54:33 "Toss the Feathers/The Ale is Dear" by TinWhistler from TinWhistler That was “Castle Kelly” and “The Man of the House,” followed by “Toss the Feathers” and “The Ale is Dear” by TinWhistler, from the brothers' first album, available now. When I lived in the East Coast of Canada, in particular Fredericton, New Brunswick, I met up with musician Bill Toner. We played a regular gig at a little wine bar called The Sour Grape in a small town called Oromocto. We didn't make much money, but it sure was a lot of fun. Here's a song from Bill's latest group, Different Folk. 58:58 "Star of the County Down/Cooley's Reel" by Different Folk from Live That was “Star of the County Down” and “Cooley's Reel,” by Different Folk. I shared the stage with some of its members at least once, and here are a couple of solo tracks from the band's award-winning fiddle player, Katherine Moller. 1:02:34 "The Friar's Walk” by Katherine Moller from Storm Queen 1:05:37 "Sunshower" by Katherine Moller from Storm Queen That was “The Friar's Walk” and “Sunshower” from Katherine Moller's album Storm Queen. That brings us close to the end of this guest episode, and I'd like to thank Marc Gunn, the Celtfather, for inviting me to take this on. Now that I've put a show together, I have a better appreciation of just how much work it is. If you appreciate all the hard work that he puts in to promoting independent Celtic music, I'd encourage you to consider becoming a Patron of the podcast on Patreon. Thanks, Marc, for all that you do! I'd also like to thank the artists who contributed their awesome music for me to include. It's been a fun experience. I'll leave you with another song from my next album, The Sally Gardens. The song is written for my lovely wife, and is likely my oldest complete original. I finally got around to recording it for an album and I hope you like it. Again, this is Jesse Ferguson, the Bard of Cornwall. You can learn more about my work by visiting www.jessefergusonmusic.com. First, we have a sponsor! Sunshower is the place to go if you're looking for the ultimate cloud-based solution support. Go to sunshower.io/nerdnumbers and check em out! Lots to discuss. We talk: How the NBA should copy baseball's award structures. Shout out to iceman for the suggestion! About a major college pay scandal that only marginally involves the NCAA. How Giannis is cementing his MVP status and if the Bucks can win it all. How the Clippers did fine in the Tobias Harris trade and will be a playoff threat? How the Warriors are fine, they're fine, ok? How the NBA might have some biased refs, and how that might be completely allowed. Some conspiracy theories about how LeBron and the Pelicans "last second breakdowns" might have been planned. We talk a great Todd Whitehead article on the Hot Hand and Klay Thompson. Spoiler alert, Dre didn't realize it had a second-half past an ad, so his opinion changes halfway through the show. Give it a full listen. We also relate that to movie grosses, Captain Marvel, and a weird argument Dre got into with the creator of Deadpool! Tune in!
We go over our whole Carnival week. Hear all the crazy behind the scenes stories! Enjoy!

By Adam Olenn K Ishibashi and Zac Colwell founded Jupiter One after working together as traveling musicians in the Barnum’s Kaleidoscope orchestra. Many of their tracks have been used in video games, including Madden NFL, NHL 08, Burnout Paradise, and FIFA 08. Other tracks have been used in advertisements for Mazda, the FIFA soccer federation, Payless shoes, and the MLB network. Both their eponymous debut and Sunshower are out on Cordless Recordings, and they opened for Regina Spektor on her 2009 and 2010 tours.

At age 5, Brian sat at an out-of-tune piano and did his best John Lennon. From there, he never looked back. Brian spent a lot of time growing up in Havana, Florida. Surrounded by beautiful land and paddle-weilding principles that were eager to dole out the corporal punishment, he reflects now with song and lyric. The great Frank McCourt would say, "a normal childhood is hardly worth your while". As an accomplished lyricist and singer/songwriter, his song Painted Red aired on the Disney/Family Channel series, Naturally Sadie. Most recently his song, "Sunshower", was included on the Songs of Love for Japan CD, the official music contribution to the Japan disaster relief sponsored by Shelterbox. His song was among great artists such as Sara Barielles, Ani Difranco and others. Brian just released his latest album, "Honest Love" and recorded the title track video with director NickCavalier, in Chicago. You can view it here:www.youtube.com/brianmackeymusic. He just recorded his next video for the song "Sunshower", on the Jersey Shore, and will be releasing in late summer. For more information visit: www.brianmackeymusic.co
