Nascida na Venezuela, Dennys foi diagnosticada com câncer de colo de útero aos 26 anos. A doença trouxe não apenas o desafio de lutar pela própria vida, mas também expôs as enormes falhas do sistema de saúde em meio à crise que a Venezuela passa. Sem acesso a medicamentos e itens de higiene como sabão, Dennys enfrentava muitas dificuldades. Com uma bolsa de colostomia como resultado de uma cirurgia de emergência, ela dependia da solidariedade dos vizinhos para conseguir se manter limpa. Foi nesse contexto desesperador que sua mãe sugeriu algo impensável: vir para o Brasil. Com apenas as roupas do corpo e os papéis que comprovavam sua condição de saúde, Dennys partiu com a esperança de encontrar ajuda por aqui. Ao chegar na fronteira de Roraima com a Venezula, ela foi acolhida pela ACNUR, a Agência da ONU para Refugiados, e pela primeira vez em muito tempo, Dennys se sentiu protegida. Ela e sua família foram encaminhadas para um abrigo onde permaneceram por quase dois anos. A adaptação não foi fácil. Após anos sem trabalhar e com sua saúde ainda debilitada, Dennys não acreditava que seria capaz de recomeçar. Foi então que ela conheceu o programa Empoderando Refugiadas, voltado para a capacitação profissional e a integração no mercado de trabalho, e conseguiu uma vaga em São Paulo. Dennys começou a trabalhar em um shopping, que proporcionou a estabilidade que ela tanto buscava. “O que eu não recebi no meu país, recebi aqui: oportunidades, dignidade e respeito”. Suas filhas, agora com 19 anos, também participam do programa, criando um futuro melhor para a família. Hoje, Dennys vive com mais estabilidade, carregando consigo não apenas as cicatrizes do que enfrentou, mas também a certeza de que sua determinação e a solidariedade que encontrou pelo caminho transformaram sua história. Both were raised in the jungles of Venezula, and now are raising their family of 4 in Peru where they swim in a lake with piranhas. And if you think that's crazy just wait to hear some of the stories Ryan shares from his own childhood. Ryan has faced loss in his life so I brought him on to talk about those losses and how he processed through them. The first was the loss of his mother at an early age. He archived many goals during this time: finding documents, interviewing family members, visiting archives and cemeteries, connecting long lost relatives and using techniques that proved to be more -or less- successful. Daniel will share the resources and repositories used in the United States and the world to find his American Family, giving examples of what to do and what not to do to help you bust your research and achieve your goals. Daniel Horowitz is the genealogy expert at MyHeritage. He provides key contributions, liaising with genealogy societies, bloggers and media, as well as lecturing and attending conferences around the world. Dedicated to the study of genealogy for 30+ years, Daniel was the study guide editor and instructor for the project "Searching for My Roots" in his native Venezuela.
