But the origins and creators of these fears are way scarier than what might have been actual practicing witches. A written record of a witch dates back almost 3000 years ago. In the mid 1400s some really ignorant and cowardly men wrote a book that created a hysteria of violence towards women who they accused of practicing witchcraft (whether they were or not)   Have we become wiser and more evolved today? Well, probably not. But we have a ton of witch characters in TV, books, and movies that can entertain us and even make us question the wisdom of how we treat others. Classic characters like Elphaba and Glenda from Wizard of Oz have lasted generations. Cartoon favorites like Maleficent, Broomhilda, and Sabrina gave us opportunities to laugh at the characters as kids.    Then, at the end of the 20th century, the characters in Harry Potter truly showed that witches could be powerful heroes. It really changed people's perspectives of witches in our culture. Now we see them pop up in all kinds of different ways, both good and bad. We have no doubt that witches' legendary status will last forever.  Which witch do you watch? Who's your favorite? It's easy to find and a definite classic you should revisit (or check out for the first time) Shua and his wife ventured out to a movie night at the Alamo. Without many expectations, they were pleasantly surprised by the newest animated interpretation of a classic toy, Transformers One. With a good story, an all-star cast, and great animation, it really put everything together in an entertaining way.      Enjoy Music!  We love our space songs. Not soundtracks from sci-fi (although those are great too) but songs that artists have written specifically about space. This week we examine some of our favorites throughout history. Plus, you can tune in to  SHIELD: Case Files where Jay and Shua break down each episode of the Loki series.     Enjoy Musicals!  We may not live in a multiverse where we break out in song every time we get emotional about something, but we can sure visit one every now and then. Musicals have been around for more than 100 years. Gilbert and Sullivan gave us some of the first great ones in the format we know today, but they have expanded and evolved throughout the years.   Certainly too many to include in one episode of Enjoy Stuff, but Jay and Shua remember some of the biggest and most influential. Artists like Rodgers and Hammerstein, Lerner and Lowe, and Andrew Lloyd Weber have written sprawling epics that have played on Broadway for decades and spawned movies, (and a lot of High School adaptations). Have fun with us as we revisit stories of watching and even participating in some musicals this week.   Are you interested in musicals? Ever played a part in one? It's a bit more gritty than we are used to, but Diego Luna is fantastic as Cassian, and the real world settings feel very ‘original trilogy'. In between his busy moving schedule, Jay has been reading some retro Dr. Strange comics from the mid 80s. It's always fun to revisit the origins of some of the great stuff we are getting today.    Sci-Fi Saturdays/MCU Location Scout 31 Days of Horror is finally here! So far he has given us Night of the Creeps, The Final Girls, and tonight's film Trick r Treat. Check back in to RetroZap every day this month to see what creepy movie Jay will give us next. And don't forget his articles on MCULocationScout.com for some great, interactive maps of filming locations.    Enjoy The Full Moon! As long as humans have been looking up to the sky, we have been fascinated by the moon. And once a month, that mysterious jewel in the sky appears big and bright and full, giving us even more to wonder about.    Lycanthropy is the transformation of a person into a wolf and stories of this curse date all the way back to the Epic of Gilgamesh. Werewolves even show up in Greek mythology in the Legend of Lycaon.    Since these stories have endured, it's no surprise that they showed up in movies very early. The first movie featuring a lycanthrope was The Werewolf from 1913. Unfortunately, it was lost to fire and can never be seen again. But a few years later, a silent western called Wolf Blood (1925) appeared and can still be viewed.    The 1935 film Wolf Blood starring Henry Hull gave us some of the tropes we still use today, such as the curse being passed on by a bite, transformations occurring because of a full moon, and that the cursed will try to lock themselves up to protect others.    The popularity has never disappeared in cinema. We still remember some legendary and groundbreaking films such as Universal's The Wolf Man (1941) and An American Werewolf in London (1981) which started a new chapter in special effects. Plus, a few fun ones like Michael J. Fox in Teen Wolf (1985)   Check out some classic (and wonderfully cheesy) films from Full Moon Entertainment. Or some classic music about our lunar neighbor like Full Moon Fever by Tom Petty, Bad Moon Rising by Creedence Clearwater Revival, or Moonage Daydream by David Bowie.    But the movies aren't the only place you can see people howling. Cartoons gave us the Groovy Ghoulies and Fang Face. And even our breakfast is not immune to the moon when you eat Frute Brute cereal.  What's your favorite story of the moon? Do you stay indoors when the moon is full? First person that emails me with the subject line, “Fly Me to the Moon” will get a special mention on the show.  Let us know.
