Delano's Top of the Week returned today after a bank holiday break last week. Joining Tom on the show was Cordula Schnuer who came in to talk about the review to Luxembourg's national energy and climate plan which the government will be presenting this afternoon (Monday 17th April). All EU countries had to submit such a plan to the European Commission in 2019. They set out how they will achieve the EU's goal to reduce emissions by 55% by 2030 and become carbon neutral by 2050. That also includes targets to increase the share of renewable energies from 11% in 2020 to 25% by 2030 and to increase energy efficiency resulting in a reduction of demand between 40 to 44%, for example by improving insulation of homes. It's mandatory under the EU strategy for each member country to submit an updated version of the plan by 30 June this year. That is meant to give countries an opportunity to set more ambitious targets, take into account the latest research and findings, for example from the UN's Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (the IPCC). Later this afternoon the prime minister together with the ministers for the economy, energy, and environment, climate and sustainability will present the draft update. That should already include input, for example from the citizens' climate council that was convened last year and where a group of 100 people developed proposals and recommendations for the government on how to tackle the climate crisis. But the document as a whole must also be opened for public consultation so that NGOs or institutional players like industry and business federations can submit their opinions. But also any regular citizen can comment and leave their remarks. For the first version, it was 328 people and 30 NGOs and other groups who gave their feedback. Cordula started her event recommendations by reminding listeners that today is the last day for foreign nationals living in Luxembourg to register to vote in the upcoming municipal elections. They are playing at the Philharmonie from 7.30pm with an artists talk just before the performance from 7pm. Saturday 22 April: Open day of Luxembourg's institutions. It's an opportunity to look inside some beautiful and historic buildings in Luxembourg that aren't otherwise accessible to the public. It's also an opportunity to meet with lawmakers and public officials. Also on 22 April at 4pm: Lecture by Juliet Jacques, a writer and filmmaker based in London on transgender lives and representation at Mudam. Hosted in the framework of an exhibition by US transgender artist Tourmaline. There's no extra fee for the lecture but you have to pay entrance to the museum. Andrei Belov is a Russian American beach volleyball player and former indoor standout. Coming up on the international indoor scene, he decided to take his talents to the beach, playing in the AVP and FIVB. His last season with the AVP was in 2013, where he led the league in aces per set (voted best server). He was retired, but has been playing part-time since, concentrating on the regional scene, most recently, winning the Pottstown Rumble, his second win there. Andrijana Todorovic is a Serbian-American volleyball coach and former indoor standout. She played volleyball professionally at the highest FIVB level for 17 years and was a five-year player on the Serbian (Yugoslavian) National Team, as well as some of the top pro leagues. Her accolades include winning a gold medal in the Serbian National Championships, as well as gold medals in the Austrian National Championship and the Cup, Romanian National Cup. She has also earned silver in the Romanian National Championships and the Greek National Cup, in addition to competing in elite European cups, Top Teams Cup, CEV Cup and the European Champions League. She brings a slew of coaching experience at the pro level and on the collegiate scene at the DI and DIII scene, and is currently the head men's and women's volleyball coach at City College of New York. She is a two-time presenter at the AVCA convention. After attending an AFL match live in Melbourne in 2012, and then playing a season with the West London Wildcats in the AFL London league in 2013, Slava eventually headed back home to St. Petersburg with his newfound love for Australian Football, and launched the St. Petersburg Cats. What started as Slava and two of his closest mates, the Cats have since grown into two teams; Baltic Hawks and Northern Tigers, who compete in the St. Petersburg Australian Football League and when possible, drive more than seven hours to the country's capital to play the Moscow Bears. Slava's focus with the Cats over the years has been about building a welcoming community whilst exploring new ways to improve game development and skill, such as introducing by-laws and taking match stats. An interesting listen as Slava shares his story about finding the sport and a bit about the Australian Football landscape in Russia.

A ako spomína autorka: “Keď som si vymyslela názov Večný pocit nedele, ani mi na um neprišlo, že ho o nejaký čas budete zažívať všetci so mnou, podobne."

Anna Belov is a successful investor with a cash positive real estate portfolio in Ontario, Canada. When Anna and her husband both lost their jobs in 2012, they were determined to take control of the situation and build a safety net for the future so that they would never have to worry about living from paycheque to paycheque. In under five years, Anna acquired 20 rental units while working full-time and being a mom of three. Anna is the author of the book, Just Over Broke? How to Invest in Assets and Eliminate Liabilities – the sincere Canadian blueprint to escaping paycheque-to-paycheque life. In my interview with Anna, we discuss how she went from being broke to owning 20 rental units, investing mistakes she made and how she got past them and strategies for someone who's starting to invest in real estate today.

In this first of what will be ongoing mini-episodes, we examine the discovery and study of Ship 17 at the ancient Egyptian city of Thonis-Heracleion. After running through the history of this city and it's significance to maritime history, we then read a passage from Herodotus where he describes a baris ship that he saw during his tour of ancient Egypt. We conclude by looking at the archaeological work being done in Thonis-Heracleion by Franck Goddio and Alexandar Belov. Ship 17 in particular has been largely excavated, measured, and thoroughly studied. This rather large ancient Egyptian cargo vessel seems to almost entirely line up with the 'baris' passage from Herodotus, so Ship 17 appears to be the first baris ship to have been discovered in ancient Egypt. Keep-Calm Mentor and Wellness Agenda Founder Miriam Belov is an author, speaker, media producer, and pioneer in the mind body spirit field. Over the past 35 years, she has traveled the globe sharing her wellness programs and helping countless people.

Dr. Katherine Belov, Professor of Comparative Genomics at the Faculty of Veterinary Science of the University of Sydney and contributing author of the 2012 Annual Review of Genomics and Human Genetics, talks about her article "A Comparative Genomics Approach to Understanding Transmissible Cancer in Tasmanian Devils," which she co-wrote with Dr. Janine E. Deakin, ARC Future Fellow at the Research School of Biology at the Australian National University. In this lecture, Prof. Belov discusses the origins of the Devil Facial Tumor Disease (DFTD), a transmissible cancer that has already caused the disappearance of 85 percent of the species and could lead to its extinction in the wild within 25 years. She explains what is known of the tumor based on its genomics, why it is transmitted between animals without causing immune recognition in the devils, and what are the conservation efforts to save the species from extinction.

Are you craving a little continental culture? Do you need a good book recommendation? Both were on offer on Tuesday, April 26, when New York Public Radio's Jerome L. Greene Space hosted a literary salon as part of the 2011 PEN World Voices Festival. The event: “From Russia with Love,” featured Russian poetry, criticism, and classical music. This year, PEN invited members of the National Book Critics Circle to come to each event and recommend notable books. Jane Ciabattari, the president of the National Book Critics circle, opened the evening with her favorite five books. (Get out your pen and paper!) The night was hosted by Ina Parker, who regularly hosts A Global Literary Salon, which is a radio and online television program transmitted from The Greene Space. Parker interviewed the Russian poets Igor Belov and Ksenia Shcherbino, as well as the Russian pianist, Svetlana Smolina. Belov has published two books of poetry: “All That Jazz” and “Music Not For Fat People.” Shcherbino has been published in the journals Babylon, Arion, Kreschatik, Reflect. The poems were read in the poets’ native language, but the lively commentary was in English, and the classical music transcends all language barriers.  Close your eyes and pretend you are in a literary salon—here is your beret. Igor Belov on censorship: "Since the leaders of Russia hardly read books at all, we can basically write almost anything that comes into our heads. Although now so-called 'extremism' is an offense that carries criminal liability...this is a concept that is so broad, that I could say just a little bit more than I’m saying right now and find myself in violation of that statute."  Ksenia Shcherbino on Soviet mythology: "In order to understand another culture, the best way to do that is to understand the myth of that other culture. I was born in 1980 so I grew up without the Soviet pressure. So, I had to re-invent Soviet mythology for myself." Jane Ciabattari on loving Russia: "What to love from Russia? Well, it could be Russian music, Russian poetry: all of the things that make us human beings. And I recall the words of Nietzsche, who said that art is what we have to keep us from perishing from the truth."

With a Masters of Arts from Brown University, she instructs in the corporate world, civicly and with the medical profession. Some of the institutions include The Metropolitan Museum of Art, the United States Department of Labor, the Diplomatic Corps of the United Nations, FDNY, The Lancaster Group, Fisher Island Spa Internazionale.
