THE LAST EPISODE OF 2024!! ... ignore the fact we technically dropped this in 2025... Since we've been on a short hiatus, we jumped right into the topics that had the media in a frenzy: the civil lawsuit against Jay-Z and Luigi Mangione's deadly shooting of then-CEO of UnitedHealthcare, Brian Thompson. We also reacted to our unsurprising loss at the 2024 Boston Music Awards, looked back at our favorite BFTC moments of 2024, and shared our individual and podcast goals for 2025. In the second half of the episode is where things really started cooking! We spoke on the seemingly downward trajectory society has been heading in and questioned what year did things generally start going to sh-t (with politics, music, race relations, corporate monopolies, AI, etc.). We even entertained the conversation around young white men feeling "oppressed" in modern society (haha). It definitely made for a thought-provoking conversation that's fitting for such a strange year in history. Goodbye 2024 and hello 2025! Monique Byrne and Andy Rogovin perform moving and inspirational songs that are sometimes joyful, sometimes wistful, and oftentimes, poignant, and that reflect a mutual passion for life, family and humanity. Their intimately blended vocal harmonies are mixed with an expressive and unique instrumental style that is best described as "a banjo-guitar romance." Crowes Pasture's style of intimate and soulful folk transports and connects listeners through universal experiences in their “skillfully crafted, emotional songwriting” (Chris Eastburn, award-winning composer).Crowes Pasture has made waves with two EPs and three full-length albums in just six-years time. Their CD, "Slow It Down", was released in June 2019 at the legendary Club Passim. Since its release, the title track earned Crowes Pasture a #1 song, and the album debuted at #5 on the Folk Alliance International Charts. Since the release of their first album, "Edge of America," the duo has had eight Top 10 Songs on the Folk Charts, including "Take Back the Red White and Blue" (January 2022), their cover of Mary Gauthier's "Mercy Now" (June 2019), and the timely and topical song, "Quarantine" (January 2021). Over the past few years, Crowes Pasture has performed at a number of renowned east coast music venues including Club Passim, Shalin Liu Performance Center, Rockwood Music Hall, The Bull Run, and Circle of Friends Coffeehouse and has been a supporting act for The Small Glories and The Kennedys. The duo has been twice honored with nominations as “Roots Act of the Year” by the New England Music Awards (2019 and 2022) and as “Americana Artist of the Year” by the Boston Music Awards (2019). They were named finalists for Best Group/Duo in the 2020 International Acoustic Music Awards, and for Best Group/Duo in the 2021 IAMAs, for their song “A Virtue and a Call”. The duo has toured recently throughout Southern Ontario and Quebec, and is currently recording their third full length album with award-winning producer Eric Lichter of Dirt Floor Studios. The duo takes its name from the salt marsh and tidal flats known as Crowes Pasture, hidden away on the north side of Cape Cod, where the ocean tides recede twice a day to reveal intricate patterns on the shifting sands. Chris Moreno is a Nashville based recording artist, who in just a short period of time has been making waves as an up and coming artist to watch. On the heels of a 4th of July performance in front of 60k people opening up for Walker Hayes in Fort Bragg, NC, he currently has over 10 million global streams with over 150k monthly listeners. His songs "Used To This" and "Running in Place have generated a ton of buzz racking up millions of streams and millions of views on TikTok. Chris has performed 500+ shows in over 20 states and has opened for national acts Parmalee, Walker Hayes and others. Known for having an extremely loyal fan base which started in Boston and is quickly expanding to the rest of the world through consistent touring and an engaged online presence (200k followers) he performs both acoustic and with his band. He was nominated for Best Country Artist three years in a row by the New England & Boston Music Awards, as well as best songwriter, and best song (Before You), and Chris is slated to have a big 2022. His honest sound and sincere delivery connects with fans on a personal level and at its core, Moreno's music is a genuine reflection of his real life experiences and down-to-earth personality. As one reviewer put it, his songs “draw in the listener as if a deep secret or universal truth is about to be revealed.” Moreno's music mixes elements of a modern country sound with a noticeable Pop/Rock edge, and he brazenly wears the alternative rock influences of the 90's and 2000's on his sleeve. The result is a unique sound that feels both fresh and familiar at the same time. Chris continues to tour and put out a steady stream of music and has worked with Nashville producers Jonathan Roye (Kelsea Ballerini) and Justin Wantz. We had the pleasure of interviewing Valleyheart over Zoom video!Massachusetts trio VALLEYHEART, who craft dynamic, cinematic alternative rock earmarked by lyrical eloquence and sweet melodies, recently released their second album Heal My Head, via Tooth & Nail.Valleyheart continue to build an emotional bond with audiences everywhere. Following the 2017 Nowadays EP, they deepened this connection with their debut album, Everyone I've Ever Loved, in 2018. “Friends In The Foyer” eclipsed 877K Spotify streams as the band took home “Rock Artist of the Year” at the 2019 Boston Music Awards. On its heels, the Scenery EP arrived to widespread acclaim. FLOOD noted, “they explore powerful, accessible soundscapes in an adequately sized package,” and Substream Magazine hailed them as “equal parts boldness and beauty.” Throughout 2020 and 2021, they assembled what would become Heal My Head at sessions at The Halo Studio in Portland, ME with longtime collaborator and co-producer Kevin Billingslea and at The Record Company in Boston, MA. Kevin Billingslea and Kevin Klein co-engineered, co-produced, and co-mixed the album, with a portion of the record being self-produced by Klein at his home studio. We want to hear from you!
