When the US Women's National Team began winning on the international stage, much credit was given to Anson Dorrance's innovative tactical approach. He deployed a 3-4-3 to counter 4-4-2 setups most commonly utilized by other international programs. Leveraging his team's athleticism, Dorrance relied on pressing to create transitional attacking opportunities. With talents like April Heinrichs, Michelle Akers and Carin Jennings-Gabarra ready to take advantage of those chances, the USWNT had enough fire power to win the inaugural FIFA Women's World Cup in 1991. With all the attention given to the team's attacking prowess, it was easy to overlook the importance of defenders like Linda Hamilton. The 2022 National Soccer Hall of Fame inductee was often given the task of marking and shutting down the oppositions best player. Her intimidating and physical style was important to the success of that 91 World Cup team, allowing that attacking talent to flourish while she solidied the last line of defense. Linda joined the show to share her memories of that team, her career and beyond. M., Yu, X., Scheel, N., Qian, W., Gifani, M., Qian, C. Abstract: Entorhinal cortex (EC) is a potential target of deep brain stimulation in Alzheimer's disease (AD) and fMRI can enable whole-brain dynamic mapping noninvasively. However, it remains challenging to study EC-based fMRI connectivity in rodents due to image signal loss and the lower sensitivity of the surface coil ring or array coil for deep brain areas. To reduce the magnetic susceptibility artifacts driven signal loss issue, we introduced baby cream into the middle ear. To improve detection sensitivity, we implemented novel inductively-coupled ear-bars (ICEs) in the 7 T Bruker scanner, which resulted in an approximately 2-fold signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) increase in EC over the conventional surface array. The ICE can be conveniently utilized as an add-on device, with no modulation to the scanner interface. To demonstrate the applicability of ICEs for both task and resting-state (rs) fMRI, whole-brain echo-planar imaging (EPI) was performed in anesthetized rats modeling AD mixed dementia. Seed-based rs-fMRI connectivity maps emanating from the left entorhinal cortex demonstrated its connectivity to the hippocampus, piriform cortex, septal nuclei, and prefrontal cortex. Hence, this work demonstrates an optimized procedure for ICE by acquiring large-scale networks emanating from a seed region that was not easily accessible by conventional MRI detectors, enabling better observation of EC-based brain fMRI connectivity studies with a higher signal-to-noise ratio in rodent models of dementia. Having pre-birth memories, Dr. Pealer has written many discourses about the mysteries of the esoteric, including giving an extensive study of life after death. He founded the Church of Spiritual Awareness in 1990 and also established “Pealer Group,” a world-wide research group that studied the secrets of life and the universe. He wrote Untold Jesus: The Two-Thousand-Year-Old Secret in 2002. Published in Pittsburgh by Dorrance, the work was based on ancient and secret documents written by those who knewJesus personally. It was one of the first works to ever suggest Jesus survived the cross, married, and had a family. This book went into detail about that family, that secret life and many shocking revelations that have never been revealed anywhere else. He also co-authored Growing Up in the Garden of the Mad, a screenplay about children growing up in a supernatural environment. It is presently being prepared for a television movie.Dr. Pealer's interest in journalism began in the early 1960s when he worked on a small weekly newspaper. This is the story of Dorrance Williams, an early pioneer in Calhoun County who settled on the Goguac Prairie in Battle Creek in 1831. He previously had been a land surveyor for the U.S. Government, and had visited the area in 1829. He lived his life as a suspicious man who was afraid everyone he dealt with was trying to cheat him. A frequent visitor to the courtroom, he was the plaintiff in may lawsuits with is neighbors. This public performance evaluation encourages improvement from lower-ranked players while motivating the top performers to work hard to remain at the top. It was so interesting to learn more about this photographer and life long horse person. I hope you enjoy as much as I did. During her groundbreaking career in entertainment, Stacey Snider became Chair of three major movie studios—Universal (1999-2006), DreamWorks (2006-2014), and 20th Century Fox (2014-2018). In this episode, Stacey shares how attending a Philadelphia-area Quaker school instilled in her a spirit of egalitarianism, which, ironically, helped her to navigate a famously hierarchical industry. In describing her path to leadership, Stacey offers a master class in how to manage power, ego, the creative process, and creative people—so many of them men—where Stacey, often the only woman in the room, had to apply subtle and imaginative strategies to gain respect and then influence. Stacey's list of mentors is also prodigious, from Marc Platt to Ron Meyer to Barry Diller to Steven Spielberg. Stacey took something from each of them and then applied it the craft of shepherding great films—the most meaningful to her being Jonathan Demme's Philadelphia and Steven Spielberg's Lincoln. In addition to her many bosses and mentors in the film industry, Stacey cites educators Mr. Dorrance and Mr. Ely from Friends Central School and Professor Dortmund from the University of Pennsylvania as profound influences.
When FIFA announced that it would conduct a Women's World Cup in 1991, US Soccer immediately sought to make an impact. While the American men had never won a World Cup title, there was an opportunity for the USWNT to establish itself as an international power. The responsibility fell at the feet of North Carolina's Anson Dorrance. Dorrance has won 21 national championships with the Tar Heels and has finished second five more times. He's had players on every USWNT since the first one. Anson joins “Sports Connections” to talk about his strategy in recruiting, coaching and life away from the pitch.

Cynthia talks with Pres. Stacey Dorrance today on the importance of decluttering and organizing, and why this is especially beneficial for Christians. The entire body and soul are affected by clutter in our homes and lives. Focusing on these areas now can make 2020 the year of living in more simplicity and joy. They also touch on the work they are doing with Filled With Less and their upcoming course called Six Weeks To Sanity. You can find out more about the course at http://filledwithless.com Stacey Dorrance has been happily married to her husband, Fr. Theodore, for 34 years and has 4 children and 6 grandkids. She is both a professional musician and a certified professional organizer. Her musical trio ministry of 27 years, Eikona, has been successful, she believes, because she puts her faith, her family, and her home first in her life. After having her fourth child, Stacey had an epiphany that she needed to sharpen her homemaking skills in order to not lose her sanity. After listing and selling her own home, she continued that journey of simplifying, systematizing, and continually improving her homemaking skills. She loves walking, chanting, writing, reading, gardening, and generally making the world around her a little more beautiful. Is it time to make some changes in your life? If you’re a reader of Acres U.S.A. magazine, you might recognize his name. Paul Dorrance writes for us frequently, and he does it with a teacher’s spirit and a sense of humor. Acres is unique in that we rely on people like Paul, people who are in the field, doing the hard, challenging work of farming. Paul is also one of the featured speakers at the Acres U.S.A. Eco-Ag Conference in December. Eco-Ag is kind of like Coachella, or Woodstock, if you prefer older references. Instead of music, we bring together a group of some of the biggest names in regenerative agriculture. I’m just looking a list and it’s incredible: Carey Gillam, Zach Bush and Kathleen Merrigan are keynote speakers. Here are some other names you might recognize: Neal Kinsey, Mark Shepard, Bob Quinn, David Montgomery, Andre Leu, Paul Dettloff, Gary Zimmer … the list goes on. Paul Dorrance is in that mix and I thrilled to introduce him to you. He’s a former Air Force pilot. He wears a big, ten-gallon cowboy hat and he’s as humble as they come. In this episode, we’re going to learn a little about Paul, but also about his latest article for our magazine. In that piece, Paul writes about his misadventures in Livestock Guardian Animals.

Deputy Speaker Anne Tolley feels awful that she upset Youth MP Lily Dorrance and has apologised to her, to Speaker Trevor Mallard, and to former Speaker David Carter.During a general debate in the House yesterday, Tolley interrupted Dorrance, who is the Youth MP for National MP David Carter, and asked her to speak without reading from her notes.Dorrance was giving an impassioned speech about mental health, and had spoken about losing a friend to suicide."When she interrupted me it was awful," Dorrance told the Herald last night."As soon as I sat down I burst into tears and had to leave … It was just humiliating."Tolley told Simon Barnett and Phil Gifford she's apologised for the incident, which came out of a misunderstanding."I had a discussion with the clerk at lunchtime cause I did ask are they respecting the normal rules of a general debate where you don't read speeches. I thought that he said yes they did, but apparently they didn't."Youth MP Ethan Griffiths said the Ministry of Youth Development told them to stick to their scripts, for Hansard's purposes."So we were actually instructed to write full speeches. Anne Tolley walked up into the house yesterday and decided no, that's not how we are going to do it."The capital has this week hosted the Youth Parliament, which every three years brings together teenagers from around the country to try their hand at being MPs, including by speaking in the House in front of cameras.Mallard said he did not comment on presiding officers.Where to get help:• Lifeline : 0800 543 354 (available 24/7)• Suicide Crisis Helpline : 0508 828 865 (0508 TAUTOKO) (available 24/7)• Youthline : 0800 376 633• Kidsline : 0800 543 754 (available 24/7)• Whatsup : 0800 942 8787 (Mon-Fri 1pm to 10pm. The 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup is underway in France, and the United States is looking to defend its title from 2015. With three World Cup titles and four Olympic gold medals, the American team is certainly a dynasty in international women’s soccer. The foundations for that dynasty were laid by Carolina’s legendary women’s soccer coach Anson Dorrance, who coached the national team from 1986-1994 and led the United States to victory in the first Women’s World Cup in 1991. Throughout that time, he was still coaching the Tar Heels, too. His Carolina team is another women’s soccer dynasty. More than half of the national titles awarded in women’s soccer history have been won by the Tar Heels. On this week’s episode, Dorrance discusses how his two dynasties come together at the World Cup — when former Carolina student-athletes represent their countries on the world’s biggest stage. He also shares what excites him about this upcoming Carolina season, when the Tar Heels will return to Chapel Hill after playing their home games off campus for two years while a new stadium was under construction.

Ride Every Stride | Horsemanship and Personal Growth with Van Hargis
I had the privilege of spending a week with Mr. Dorrance, watching and learning how he practiced horsemanship. One night at dinner I said, “You know what? You’re worse than my grandad.” See, I couldn’t remember a single time growing up where my grandad gave me a straight answer to a question. He’d either ask another question or make a statement that I didn’t even think was related. Well, Mr. Dorrance told me if you went and asked ten different trainers how they did something you’d certainly get at least ten different answers. He told me if I asked him the same question ten days in a row I might get a different one each day. His point was this—the way you do something and how you do something might be infinite. Key Takeaways It’s the number one question I get asked. “Van, how do you this?” So, I think real hard about what they really want to know. But I have to say, again like Mr. Dorance, the answer might be different or change. If there was just one cure-all for a problem people would have a little notebook to mark off the boxes one by one until their issue was resolved. But life doesn’t work that way most of the time, especially when horses are involved. Focus on the why. When you truly focus on the why, the hows tend just fall in place like magic. So take time compare these with your own goals, the how vs. the why. Because guess what? Often times the how depends on the specifics of the why, just think about trying to correct a horse’s behavior without knowing why they are behaving that way. It doesn’t work. Remember that the horse is always right. The horse is either doing what comes naturally, or what they think you want them to be doing. And if you can get the answer you want from them with different hows, all the better. Variety helps keep your horse from being “bored” and certainly yourself as a trainer. A big secret is that there is no patented Van Hargis method. Don’t go around saying, “Well I did this the Van Hargis way.” There is no one way I do anything. There have been plenty of times where I saw a trainer do something and I swore up and down that I’d never be caught doing that—only to one day find myself doing it. Because my “way” is whatever works for the horse.
Want to be a fly on the wall for a conversation between a 36-time NCAA Champion Sport Psychology Consultant and one of the greatest coaches of all time? This is a show you cannot miss! Dr. Jerry Lynch and Anson Dorrance join John this week to talk Dean Smith, John Wooden, Alonzo Stagg, and what it is like to build an unrivaled dynasty through love, connection, and strong character, Bio Anson Dorrance enters his 41st year of service to the University of North Carolina soccer programs in the fall of 2017. Dorrance, a 1974 Tar Heel alumnus, debuted as the Carolina men’s soccer coach in September of 1977 and then added duties as head coach and founder of the UNC women’s program in September of 1979. A former U.S. Women’s National Team head coach and current University of North Carolina head women’s soccer coach, Anson Dorrance was named the 2016 winner of the prestigious Werner Fricker Builder Award from United States Soccer on January 29, 2016. As U.S. Soccer’s highest honor, the Werner Fricker Builder Award is given to an individual or group of individuals who have dedicated at least 20 years of service to the sport, working to establish a lasting legacy in the history and structure of soccer in the United States. The award recognizes those who have developed programs that will outlast their own involvement in the sport. When Dorrance was inducted into the National Soccer Hall of Fame on August 2, 2008, it marked one more milestone moment in the career of a man whose coaching prowess became legendary at a young age. Because Dorrance has not yet retired from his coaching career, he was only eligible for election to the Hall of Fame on the “Builders of the Game” ballot, being inducted in his first year of eligibility. Like fine wine — with age — the coaching career of Anson Dorrance only gets better. It was just two years ago in 2015 when Tar Heel soccer stayed in the international news as nine University of North Carolina standouts competed in the FIFA Women’s World Cup. Six former UNC players helped the U.S. win its first World Cup title since 1999, including starters Meghan Klingenberg and Tobin Heath. Tar Heel Lucy Bronze led England to its best ever World Cup finish as it gained a bronze medal. Legacy of Legends Carolyn Hunt & Buck Brannaman The Legacy of Legends, a tribute to the horsemanship principles of Ray Hunt and Tom Dorrance is happening March 3rd, 4th, and 5th, 2017 at the Will Rogers Memorial Center in Fort Worth. The Legacy of Legends was co-founded by Ray’s wife Carolyn and Buck Brannaman. According to an article in Western Horseman, Ray Hunt knew a lot about horses and was a pretty good cowhand by the time he was 30 years old. As a consequence, he started colts, shod horses, and day-worked ranches in the Hollister, CA area. But then a horse entered his life that opened his eyes to a new way of thinking. The horse, a 4-year-old gelding named Hondo, had a bucking problem. Ray was quoted in the magazine article with his dry sense of humor, "I wanted to show him in a hackamore class,” he said, “but about the time I turned a cow down the fence, I'd come back in the saddle bronc event, and you can't show a horse in two events at the same time. All I knew to fix the problem was what the cowboys said - just get a bigger club.”
In this captivating NAC Dance podcast interview, Cathy Levy talks with New Yorker Michelle Dorrance, tapper extraordinaire and recipient of a MacArthur Genius grant, on the eve of her company's National Arts Centre debut. Work and praise followed as her knowledge and interest in the history and tradition of tap deepened. Through her company Dorrance Dance, founded in 2010, she pushes the boundaries of the art form through imaginative collaborations and pursues her lifelong commitment to education.
