Dr. Frank N. von Hippel, Senior Research Physicist and Professor of Public and International Affairs emeritus of the Program on Science and Global Security at Princeton University's forthcoming book is, “Ending the Nuclear Arms Race – A physicist's quest.” The world has 9 nuclear states and over 10,000 nuclear weapons. The Doomsday Clock sponsored by the Bulletin of Atomic Scientists is now 90-seconds before striking midnight. DoD spends over $125 million per day to maintain our nuclear stockpile. Rather than spend trillions to modernize nuclear weapons, we should reduce them. A key player has been the United Nations, through its treaties and conferences, in reducing nuclear threats. The UN Nonproliferation Treaty (NPT) concluded in 1970 is the major treaty. Today's weapons are far more powerful and devastating than the atomic bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945. Recommendations: No First Use of nukes; 2) Get away from launch on warning posture.

One of Australia's most versatile performing artists, Todd McKenney is an award winning and critically acclaimed performer on stage and screen. As an actor and the leading man of song and dance in musical theatre productions, he has entertained Australians for 40 years, from the main stage to intimate venues. It's not surprising that Todd McKenney is a household name. National exposure came with his delicious portrayal of the acerbic adjudicator on Dancing with the Stars - a television juggernaut that has completed multiple seasons. Todd's stage credit roll and career highlights include his most notable role of Peter Allen in the Australian hit production The Boy From Oz, in which he performed over 1000 shows nationally and became one of the longest running and most successful musical productions in Australian history. Todd's first professional musical role was in 1983 in Andrew Lloyd Webber's Song and Dance. His career followed with lead and headline roles in Cats, 42nd Street, West Side Story, Crazy For You, Born Yesterday, Camelot, Pirates of Penzance, Cabaret, Strictly Ballroom, La Cage aux Folles, Singin' In the Rain, Priscilla Queen of the Desert, Orpheus In the Underworld for Opera Australia, Annie the Musical, Grease, Six Dance Lessons in Six Weeks and Anything Goes. In 2018 he stepped into the stilettos and successfully took on the role of Frank N' Furter in The Rocky Horror Show in Melbourne. In 2019 Todd stepped out on stage as Australia's Greatest Showman in the title role of Barnum, and most recently played Lord Farquaad in the hit musical Shrek and Lord Chancellor Sebastian in Rodgers and Hammerstein's Cinderella. As a dancer, his journey started at the age of three at his mother's dancing school in Perth, training in jazz, tap, acrobatics and ballroom dancing. He represented Australia in ballroom and Latin American dancing, winning many international dance titles. Amongst his Australian awards for performance in musical theatre he has two Mo Awards, the Variety Club Heart Award, the Glug Award, the Green Room Award, two Australian Dance Awards and a Helpmann Award. On the small screen Todd has starred in the hit show Winners and Losers on the 7 Network. He has also appeared as a guest judge on Australia's Got Talent, hosted on a range of morning Television programs and appeared as an entertaining guest across all networks. On radio Todd co-hosted Sydney's MIX106.5 breakfast radio program with Sonia Kruger for two years and is a regular guest on the airwaves. In 2020, Todd played Lewis in the award winning feature film Unsound. On the small screen Todd has appeared in the acclaimed ABC series Significant Others; an engrossing, intelligently crafted six-part series about a missing persons case. On a personal level, Todd had the delight of becoming a father in 2007 and his daughter Charlotte is the light of his life. He is a student of Auslan sign language and has worked within the deaf community all around Australia. Todd is also a keen supporter of The Grace Centre For Newborn Intensive Care at the Children's Hospital at Westmead and the Cerebral Palsy Alliance. Over the past year, Todd has starred as Wilbur Turnblad in Hairspray the Musical and Sebastian in Cinderella. In 2023 he commences a tour of his one-man show - Todd McKenney sings Peter Allen and lots more! A perfect way to celebrate 40 years on the boards! What's up Dream Warriors! It's our last episode of March Musicals and we saved the best for last! This week we take a trip to Transvestite, Transylvania and join Dr. Frank N' Furter and his crew to Time Warp all over the place. That's right, we're closing the month out with The Rocky Horror Picture Show! As much fun as we had doing these musical episodes, we're both very excited to get back to our regular episodes and next week we'll be talking about the Korean horror film, A Tale of Two Sisters, which will be a first watch for both and one we've both really wanted to watch!
The real Rocky Horror has nothing to do with Frank N. Further or the Time Warp. The real Rocky Horror scored a 57 on his IQ test- and he cheated. The real Rocky Horror has a girlfriend who desperately needs Breck for Oily hair, and dresses like she's gunning for the title of “Miss Special Ed 1975.” This is Rocky.

„Autós hasonlattal a technikai SEO a motor, a tartalmi SEO a váltó, a linképítés pedig a kerekeknek felel meg, közöttük pedig szorzatjel van” – ennél szemléletesebb módon nehéz volna összefoglalni a keresőoptimalizálás lényegét. Többek között az ilyen fineszes mondatok miatt is annyira klassz dolog, hogy Pál Zolit, az ALH Consulting Kft. alapítóját sikerült vendégül hívni a KKV FM podcast aktuális epizódjához. Zoliék ügynökségi szinten kétszáznál is több vállalati ügyfelet segítenek egyre magasabb organikus pozíciókhoz a keresőkben. Úgyhogy ismeri a dörgést, keresőoptimalizálás témában nehéz őt bevinni az erdőbe. A beszélgetés elsődleges célja érthetően, vállalkozói megközelítésből, gyakorlatba ültethető lépéseken keresztül megmutatni neked a legfontosabb tudnivalókat a keresőoptimalizálásról. • Milyen szoftveres megoldásokkal ellenőrizheted a weboldalad tartalmi SEO szempontjából? • Mikortól várhatsz eredményeket a keresőoptimalizálásba invesztált munkáért, és miért ne dőlj hátra a Google 6-7. helyén egy-egy kulcsszóra? • Miért jársz jobban, ha a linképítést egyszerűen kiszervezed?

October 1, 2019 On September 26th, MERICS hosted a China Dispute on the 70th anniversary of the founding of the PRC. Leading experts from Germany, Denmark, the Netherlands and Canada discussed if the CCP - after 70 years of rule and facing intensely challenging domestic and international environments - can deliver its “China Dream”, create a more just and equal society, and reestablish the social contract between the leadership and the people? Kristin Shi-Kupfer, Director of Public Policy and Society at MERICS, moderated the debate featuring Sarah Eaton (Professor for Transregional China Studies in the Institute for Asian and African Studies at Humboldt University, Berlin) Christian Göbel (Professor of Modern China Studies at the University of Vienna), Andreas Møller Mulvad (Assistant Professor, Copenhagen Business School, Copenhagen and MERICS director Frank N. Pieke. Before the panel discussion, Shi-Kupfer talked with MERICS research associate Nis Grünberg about the latest MERICS China Monitor on Party-state relations. Listen to an edited version of the debate in the latest MERICS Experts Podcast!

Today we explore the history of plutonium with Frank von Hippel, a retired but always active professor at Princeton University, where, in 1975, he co-founded Princeton’s Program on Science and Global Security in the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs. In the 1980s, Frank was the chairman of the Federation of American Scientists, and in the Clinton Administration he was the Assistant Director for National Security in the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy. Frank has worked on nuclear arms control and nonproliferation since the 1980s, and received many awards for this work, including a MacArthur Fellowship. Frank received his B.S. in physics at MIT in 1959 and his Ph.D. in theoretical physics at the University of Oxford in 1962, where he was a Rhodes Scholar. Frank is also a co-author of the forthcoming book, “Plutonium: How nuclear power’s dream fuel became a nightmare.” We discuss the history of all things nuclear – the development of the bomb, the attacks on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, plutonium bomb accidents during the Cold War, breeder reactors, radioactive waste, trans-uranic elements and neutron capture, nuclear terrorism and dirty bombs, nuclear testing, nuclear energy, and the people involved.
May 29, 2019 Only recently international companies have been allowed to start their own major projects in China. The German car builder BMW is for the first time majority shareholder of a joint venture in Shenyang, whereas chemical company BASF announced the investment of 10 billion dollars into a joint project in Guangdong Province. China opens up its market in areas where it could benefit from prestigious partners, says old China hand Joerg Wuttke, BASF China chief representative and newly elected president of the European Chamber in Beijing. Together with Kerstin Lohse-Friedrich and Frank N. Pieke he discusses the latest cooperation, the US-Chinese trade dispute and European-China relations. Listen to the live recording of the MERICS event from May 7 in our latest podcast.
The first woman to circumnavigate the world did so dressed as a man. In 1766, 26-year-old Jeanne Baret joined a French expedition hoping to conceal her identity for three years. In this week's episode of the Futility Closet podcast we'll tell the story of her historic journey around the globe. We'll also hear Mark Twain's shark story and puzzle over a foiled con artist. Intro: In 1856 Samuel Hoshour wrote an imaginary correspondence full of polysyllabic words. In 1974 Dennis Upper published a study of his intractable writer's block. September 10, 2018 For years, many China observers believed that the Chinese Communist Party would eventually crumble under the contradictions between a Leninist political system and a dynamic society. “But we were all proved wrong”, says Frank N. Pieke, the new head of MERICS. The Chinese Communist Party is more modern, more powerful and confident than ever, he says. Yet, Xi Jinping, who likes to present himself as an all-powerful state and party leader, faces headwinds from within the apparatus and might find it more difficult than expected to secure a third term. People in Europe, Pieke says, need to face up to the new realities in China and get to grips with their own differing interests. China looks different from Athens or Duisburg than from Berlin or Paris, he says. Listen to Frank N. Pieke talking about his views on China and his plans for the future of MERICS in the new MERICS Experts Podcast.

The possibility that world annihilation rests with the twitching fingertips of a dictator in North Korea and a narcissist in Washington motivated me to focus the second science history podcast on nuclear disarmament. As a bonus, we also discuss renewable energy, another fitting topic at a time when the United States stands alone as the only country in the world that is withdrawing from the Paris Agreement on Climate Change. My first guest is Jose Goldemberg, a physicist who has played a central role in the development of Brazilian science and policy for half a century. Jose’s comments are put into the historical perspective of Cold War events by my second guest, Frank N. von Hippel, a professor and co-director of the Program on Science and Global Security at Princeton University and the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs.

Aired 12/01/08 Morley Winograd and Michael Hais, Authors of Best-Seller Millennial Makeover. Morley Winograd is the executive director of the Institute for Communication Technology Management (CTM) at the University of Southern California’s Marshall School of Business. He is also the president and CEO of Morwin, Inc., a government reform consulting company. Michael D. Hais served for a decade as Vice President, Entertainment Research and for more than 22 years overall at Frank N. Magid Associates where he conducted audience research for hundreds of television stations, cable channels, and program producers in nearly all 50 states and more than a dozen foreign countries. Millennial Makeover builds a strong case for how today's rising generation is poised to become a political powerhouse, re-energizing civic spirit and transforming both the substance and process of American politics. With new technologies, attitudes, and agendas, this generation could define the twenty-first century just as fundamentally as the G.I. Generation defined the twentieth century. Winograd and Hais build a strong, historically rooted case for how this could unfold. -- Neil Howe and William Strauss, authors of Generations: The History of America's Future, 1584-2069 http://www.millennialmakeover.com
