In this bonus episode of The Ankler podcast, recorded live on May 18 at L.A.'s DGA Theater, The Ankler and the Directors Guild of America bring you a series of funny and memorable conversations — presented by Threads — about the art of directing for television. Lesley Goldberg interviewed Alethea Jones, who helmed the pilot for ABC freshman hit “High Potential”; Elaine Low spoke with Yana Gorskaya of FX's “What We Do in the Shadows”; and Katey Rich sat with Lucia Aniello of “Hacks” (who's also co-showrunner of the HBO Max comedy). Despite the often loose tones of their shows, each of the directors emphasized the extensive prep on their end that's required to make the storytelling work. “I write a novel on every episode of television I have ever done,” Gorskaya admits, “that tracks every character's wants, needs, desires, where we've been — and where we're going.” Learn more about your ad choices. LinQ Minerals Executive Chair Clive Donner joined Steve Darling from Proactive to announce the company's initial public offering (IPO) as it prepares to list on the Australian Securities Exchange (ASX). The IPO aims to raise between A$7.5 million and A$10 million, offering investors exposure to one of Australia's most prospective gold-copper regions. Under the IPO, LinQ is issuing 37.5 million to 50 million shares at A$0.20 per share, with the offer now officially open to investors. Donner explained that proceeds from the raise will be directed toward drilling high-priority targets within the company's flagship Gilmore Project, as well as advancing work on the Southern Startup deposits. The drilling campaign is aimed at unlocking further value from the project's expansive mineralised system. The IPO funds will be used to commence a 12-month drilling program aimed at expanding the known resources and following up on promising targets. LinQ Minerals holds a 100% interest in five exploration licences spanning 597 square kilometres in the Gilmore Project area, which lies between Temora and West Wyalong in New South Wales' Macquarie Arc—a world-class mineral province home to major mines such as Cadia, Northparkes, and Cowal. The company has already made a significant start: in August, LinQ reported a JORC-compliant Mineral Resource Estimate for the Gilmore Project of approximately 516 million tonnes, containing 3.7 million ounces of gold and 1.2 million tonnes of copper. #proactiveinvestors #linqmineralslimited #asx #mining #CopperExploration #GoldExploration #GilmoreProject #ASXListing #MiningAustralia #ResourceStocks #PorphyryCopper #MineralExploration #ProactiveInvestors

CBS also boasted eight of the top 10 most-watched programs, including new show hits Matlock and Georgie & Mandy's First Marriage. Freshman Shows Boost Time Slots: New series like CBS's reboot of Matlock and ABC's High Potential and Shifting Gears improved their respective time slots' viewership. Matlock became the season's most-watched new series, while Georgie & Mandy's First Marriage was the top comedy. Reboots and Spinoffs Rule: The season leaned heavily on familiar franchises. Examples include CBS's NCIS: Origins (a prequel to NCIS), Georgie & Mandy's First Marriage (a Young Sheldon spinoff), and NBC's Happy's Place (starring Reba McEntire, echoing her sitcom roots). This reflects a cautious approach by networks, favoring known brands over original concepts. Long-Running Shows Keep Going: Iconic animated series on Fox, like The Simpsons (renewed through its 40th season), Family Guy (through its 27th season), and Bob's Burgers (through its 19th season), continued their historic runs, cementing their status as cultural staples. The CW's Reboot Continues: The CW, now under new management, focused on sports and unscripted content, airing NASCAR Xfinity Series races and shows like Totally Funny Animals. It also renewed scripted series like Sullivan's Crossing for a third season, signaling a shift from its former teen-drama-heavy identity. Broadcast TV Still Draws Older Viewers: Social media chatter on X suggested younger audiences are drifting from broadcast TV, with “boomers” as the primary viewers. This perception aligns with complaints about repetitive genres (cop, lawyer, doctor shows) and a lack of risk-taking, though hits like Tracker and High Potential still pulled diverse viewers.
This episode of the "Deliberate Leaders Podcast," hosted by Allison Dunn, delves into the critical topic of how to effectively lead and develop high-potential employees (HiPos). The episode emphasizes that these individuals are not only top performers but also the future leaders, innovators, and a potential competitive advantage for an organization. However, it also highlights the significant flight risk associated with HiPos if they are not properly developed.A key point addressed is the distinction between high performance and high potential. The episode clarifies that excelling in a current role does not automatically mean an employee has the capacity for leadership. The podcast outlines three key attributes that define true high-potential employees:• Perspective: HiPos think strategically, asking deeper questions about the long-term strategy, company values, and the real problems being solved. They bring valuable insights and should be included in strategic conversations.• Presence: HiPos command attention through clear communication, active listening, and the ability to inspire trust, making others feel valued and motivated. This isn't just about charisma but about how they impact others.• Powerful Work Habits: HiPos are proactive, identify important work independently, are resilient in the face of setbacks, and take ownership of outcomes. They do not require constant supervision. The episode then provides guidance on how to effectively lead HiPos, suggesting several key strategies:• Ditch micromanagement: HiPos need mentorship and space to think, innovate, and learn from occasional failures. Monitoring will only drive them away.• Provide honest feedback: Genuinely honest feedback, including both strengths and areas for growth, is crucial for HiPos who crave development. Framing growth areas as a "pathway forward" is beneficial.• Invest in their development deliberately: This involves providing stretch assignments, opportunities to shadow senior leaders, actively listening to their aspirations, and connecting them with relevant resources, training, and experiences. Dunn counters the fear of investing in employees who might leave by asking, "What if you don't invest in them—and they stay?" highlighting the opportunity cost of underdevelopment.Dunn issues a challenge to listeners to identify HiPos based on the three key attributes and schedule development conversations with them. She suggests asking questions about what energizes them, their growth aspirations, and desired skill development. The goal is to then collaboratively create a specific stretch opportunity aligned with their goals. In conclusion, the episode emphasizes that leading HiPos is not just about quick promotions but about fostering depth in their critical thinking, emotional intelligence, and integrity. Effectively leading HiPos is presented as a deliberate effort to craft the organization's future. Longing to get back to the movies, Lewis and Cecilia share what they have been watching on streaming, in the hopes they will return to the cinemas soon. This week they talk about The Reacher, High Potential, Home Improvement and Optics. Cecilia reviews Oscar nominated feature, A Real Pain starring Keiran Culkin and Jessie Eisenberg. Lewis also falls down a BAFTA's Rabbit Hole.
Dianne is out on a very special assignment so Chris is joined by guest host (and real-life SAG voter) Ian Brodsky to discuss everything from the future of James Bond to Mike White's extremely specific references. Featuring our predictions for Season 3 of The White Lotus on HBO (uh, yes, we're going to talk about what's going on with the “Will They? Won't They” Brothers). But first! So much streaming, including: The best moments from the NBC SNL50 special (also Chevy Chase was there). Our undying love for the just-wrapped first season of ABC's High Potential. A ratings update on The Night Agent and Ian's elevator pitch for why Black Doves should be your next Netflix spy fix. And some big surprises from some even bigger personalities behind some of the world's biggest IP: Kathleen Kennedy plans to step aside at Star Wars and the Broccoli family finally relinquishes the keys to the James Bond kingdom (we're pitching our Bonds for Bezos, of course). Correction: Michael Wilson is Barbara Broccoli's half brother, not stepbrother. Stepbrothers were just on the mind this week! ———

The only thing -- the ONLY thing -- you need to know about this episode is that this is the one where Jessica admits to licking a banana slug (not a euphemism) at Girl Scout camp in order to get high! At one point we also thought that a lizard might turn into an extra from Jurassic Park, Jacob confesses why he cleans in the buff, and we're both convinced that backstage on the set of HIGH POTENTIAL is just a mixture of show tunes and boxing -- but really you're only here for the banana slug story. We're chatting Prime Target with Leo Woodall and Quintessa Swindell this week (34:16), before hand-picking a single pair of shows to review this week — which has a lot more to do an array of embargoes than an indicator of special quality. Still, we're back in procedural land for High Potential (54:53) and back in the ‘80s for a bit of geopolitical wrangling with submarines in Swedish miniseries Whiskey On The Rocks (1:03:21) — both on Disney+. Plus we get a small assortment of listener questions from Kay and Boyd reveals his unnatural love of the big light. (Episode 320)Note: time stamps are approximate as the ads throw them out, so are only meant as a guide.
