Janice Lintz is a passionate, accomplished hearing loss consultant and advocate. She is the CEO of Hearing Access & Innovations, the leading company dedicated to helping the world's businesses, cultural and entertainment institutions, government agencies, and mass transit organizations improve their accessibility for people with hearing loss. Since 2002, Janice has become the global “go-to” person on all matters related to access for people who are deaf or hard of hearing. Equipped with an undergraduate degree in business, a law degree, and experience as a successful litigator, Janice leverages her broad background to articulate compelling business cases for organizations in both the for-profit and not-for-profit worlds to improve hearing access for customers with hearing loss. A culture lover, Janice felt her heart sink whenever her daughter – diagnosed with hearing loss at 2 ½ – struggled to understand museum guides and actors on stage, even with hearing aids. Not one to wait, Janice plunged into the research and learned that cultural venues could provide better hearing access with relatively standard technology, such as the induction loop, a coil placed around a room that wirelessly transmits amplified sound to a hearing aid. Janice works with domestic and international organizations to benchmark best practices and helps clients leverage the most effective solutions for their situations. Working with multiple organizations, she helped the NYC Transit recommend that induction loops be included in all NYC subway information booths and call boxes as part of President Obama's $13.5 million Stimulus Package. She also worked with the NYC Taxi and Limousine Commission to implement this same technology in all taxis. New York City is the first United States city to offer this technology in its transit systems. The New York City resident and mother of two is a 2023 Harvard Kennedy School MC/MPA Candidate, 2021 Tell Her She Can't Changemaker, and 2018 The Points Guy + Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation Goalkeepers Partnership Travel Grant Recipient. Janice is also a Consumer Education/Travel/Food writer. Thrive Global, The Outdoor Journal, Forbes/Lifestyle, Forbes Woman Africa, Yahoo Travel, Huffington Post, Johnny Jet, and Consumer Mojo published her articles. The yellow taxi is a symbol of New York, but the industry has collapsed under compounding economic pressures, and many drivers say the city's response has been woefully inadequate. Now they're planning a hunger strike. Medallions are permits that allow drivers to own their taxis. Buying one used to be a path to a middle-class life. With prices reaching $1 million, buyers were pushed toward reckless loans, while the city made a profit. The drivers have lobbied for relief and the city's Taxi and Limousine Commission has finally proposed a relief plan. We hear more from one of the drivers camping in front of the City Hall - Augustine Tang. Also in the programme, Credit Suisse Group is to pay $475 million to American and British authorities to resolve bribery and fraud charges related to a $2 billion scandal over Mozambican government-guaranteed loans which came to be known as tuna bonds - they were originally intended to help build up a domestic tuna fishing fleet in the country. A Credit Suisse subsidiary also pleaded guilty to a conspiracy charge in New York. Plus - the BBC's Clare Williamson reports on whether edible insects are likely to become a significant source of protein for humans in the coming years. And, the television show Squid Game has become streaming giant Netflix's most popular series. But it has led to a row between South Korea's SK Broadband and Netflix, as the internet service provider is suing Netflix to pay for costs from increased network traffic and maintenance work, thanks to the surge in viewers. It's a totally free marketplace that simplifies the buying and selling process, and help you learn about EVs along the way too.   AMAZON ROLLS OUT ITS FIRST ELECTRIC DELIVERY VEHICLES IN METRO DETROIT   - The new Amazon electric delivery vehicle started making runs out of the Pontiac hub this week. There are currently three of them and staffers are getting trained on how to use them and the new in-vehicle systems on the roads of Oakland, Macomb and Genesee counties. The vehicles are Rivian pre-production electric trucks built at the Rivian Engineering Center in Plymouth.   Original Source : https://www.clickondetroit.com/news/local/2021/07/29/amazon-rolls-out-its-first-electric-delivery-vehicles-in-metro-detroit/   REVEL TO LAUNCH TESLA TAXIS IN NYC AFTER ROW WITH CITY REGULATORS   - Controversial scooter startup Revel plans to launch its fleet of Tesla taxis in Manhattan next week after a heated battle with New York City regulators.   The service will launch next Monday and provide rides in 50 Model Y Teslas in Manhattan south of 42nd Street.   - Revel — whose ubiquitous blue scooters drew controversy last year after a trio of fatal accidents in New York — is able to launch the service due to an apparent change of heart by New York's Taxi and Limousine Commission.   - On June 22, however, the TLC threw a wrench into the company's plans when it issued an emergency rule change eliminating that exemption, a move that baffled observers including Tesla CEO Elon Musk.       But because Revel had initially sent its Tesla taxi paperwork for TLC approval in March — months before the rule change — the TLC ultimately decided to approve the company's plan, a Revel spokesperson told The Post.   - Demand for Revel's service has soared amid sky-high ride-share fares and a dire shortage of taxis, with 50,000 New Yorkers on a waitlist to use the service, the company said.   - Revel expects at least 15 Teslas to be in service next Monday and all 50 to be on the streets within three weeks. This new agreement could allow Lordstown to continue by providing the much-needed capital required to produce its first electric vehicle.   - Lordstown execs dug themselves into a deeper hole by attempting to calm investors a day after its CEO and CTO resigned with statements that they had binding orders from customers that would fund limited production of its electric pickup truck through May 2022. The company retracted those statements within days.   Original Source : https://techcrunch.com/2021/07/26/troubled-ev-company-lordstown-motors-gets-400m-lifeline-in-stock-sale-agreement   TESLA BANKS ON SHANGHAI GIGAFACTORY 3, ITS ‘PRIMARY VEHICLE EXPORT HUB'   - Tesla is relying on its Shanghai factory to meet global demand for its vehicles, as its other plants grapple with shortages of automotive chips and other car components.   - it had completed the transition of its US$2 billion Gigafactory 3 in Shanghai into a plant for deliveries around the world, 20 months after its inauguration in December 2019.   - Carmakers based in China have avoided the worst of the global shortage of semiconductors by virtue of an early recovery in production and sales after Beijing successfully contained its Covid-19 pandemic. This allowed them to secure supply of car components earlier than their global peers.   · Highlighted Source : https://share.getliner.com/IcGGv/ · Original Source : https://www.scmp.com/business/companies/article/3142666/tesla-banks-shanghai-gigafactory-3-its-primary-vehicle-export?utm_source=pocket_mylist   EXELON JOINS ELECTRIC HIGHWAY COALITION; ENCOURAGES EV ADOPTION   - Exelon, a Fortune 100 energy company, announced today a commitment to join the Electric Highway Coalition, a partnership among 14 U.S. utilities to create a seamless network of rapid electric vehicle charging stations connecting major highway systems, stretching from the Atlantic Coast through the Midwest, South and into the Gulf and Central Plains regions.   - The members of the EHC have agreed to work together to ensure efficient and effective fast charging deployment plans that enable long distance EV travel, avoid duplication and complement existing corridor fast charging sites. Sites initially will be located less than 100 miles apart on major roadways. Additionally, each site will have at least two charging stations with universal vehicle compatibility and at least 100 kilowatts of output per station   Original Source : https://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20210726005480/en/Exelon-Joins-Electric-Highway-Coalition-Encourages-EV-Adoption   SAMSUNG SDI CONFIRMS 1ST BATTERY CELL PLANT IN US   - Samsung SDI forecast the automotive chip shortage issue won't disrupt its scheduled electric vehicle (EV) battery production, as carmakers are aggressively shifting their business strategies to sell more EVs to meet stricter environmental regulations, the battery-making arm of Samsung Group said Tuesday.   - The shortages come as chipmakers have given priority to chips for IT devices and home appliances, which have been in robust demand due to the pandemic.   - The chip shortage issue will have a limited impact on our performance as carmakers prioritize EV production to meet environmental regulations   - Son Michael, senior vice president of the company, also confirmed that it will establish a battery manufacturing plant in the United States as battery cell makers are urged to set up factories there to take advantage of tax benefits. Under the United States―Mexico―Canada Agreement (USMCA) that took effect in 2020, cars that have 75 percent North American components can avoid tariffs starting from 2025.   Original Source : https://www.koreatimes.co.kr/www/tech/2021/07/129_312881.html   BLINK CHARGING WILL INSTALL DOZENS OF EV CHARGERS ALONG FLORIDA HIGHWAYS Original Source : https://www.bizjournals.com/southflorida/inno/stories/fundings/2021/07/27/blink-charging-electric-vehicle-chargers-florida.html       MERCEDES-BENZ EQS CHARGING ANALYSIS REVEALS IT'S FASTER THAN PLAID   - According to the chart, the peak charging power is almost 207 kW, which is a little bit more than in the specs (up to 200 kW). Starting at around 4-5% SOC, power very quickly increases to the peak level and remains flat at up to over 25% SOC. Then the power decreases gently to about 115 kW at 80% SOC, which is really a very nice charging curve.   - The average power in the very important range from 20% to 80% SOC is 155 kW, which is 75% of the peak value. Those are very good numbers, but the best thing is how consistent the charging is over the entire session:   - The net battery capacity of 107.8 kWh stands for about 94% of the total battery capacity (if our guess about 115 kWh is correct).   Original Source : https://insideevs.com/news/522577/mercedes-eqs-fast-charging-analysis/   EQA 250 CAUSES HEADACHES FOR MERCEDES-BENZ KOREA   - Mercedes-Benz Korea is having a major headache with its new electric vehicle (EV) called the New EQA 250, because the Korean government has yet to categorize the automobile as an EV, thus excluding prospective buyers from receiving a reduction in acquisition taxes.   - According to industry sources, the Mercedes Benz EQA EV, which was released in mid-July, has yet to be included in the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy's designated EV category which was updated last month. The exclusion exempts buyers of the EQA from receiving a 1.4 million won eco-friendly vehicle tax benefit.   - To be categorized as an EV by the ministry, a vehicle needs to have a minimum 5.0km/kWh energy consumption rate for a small sedan and over 5.0km/kWh for mid to large sedans with a minimum driving range of 150km on a single charge.   Original Source : https://www.koreatimes.co.kr/www/tech/2021/07/129_312739.html     ELECTRIC CAR CHARGING PRICES 'MUST BE FAIR' SAY MPS   - People must be protected from excessive pricing for public electric car charging, MPs have said. It's Martyn Lee here and I go through every EV story so you don't have to.   Thank you to MYEV.com for helping make this show, they've built the first marketplace specifically for Electric Vehicles. It's a totally free marketplace that simplifies the buying and selling process, and help you learn about EVs along the way too.   RENAULT EV ELECTRIC BATTERY COSTS TO REDUCE IN ELECTRIC-CAR PUSH   - Renault SA aims to cut the cost of its batteries by 60% this decade as the struggling French carmaker seeks to accelerate a push into electric vehicles. Renault also plans to lower the cost of its electric motors by 30%, make them more compact and extend their range, it said Wednesday. It plans to roll out several EVs in the coming years, including a revival of the iconic and affordable ‘4L' model.   - In deciding to revive the 4L model that dates back to the 1960s after also announcing plans to remake the Renault 5 into an EV, de Meo is taking his penchant for vintage a step further. The latter will cost a third less than its compact Zoe EV, the company said.   - Part of Renault's push into affordable EVs is a pledge to lower battery-pack costs to less than $100 per kilowatt-hour in 2025, and below $80 per kilowatt-hour in 2030   Original Source : https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2021-06-30/renault-pledges-to-lower-battery-costs-in-electric-car-push     ELECTRIC RENAULT 5 HEADING FOR PRODUCTION - AND IT'LL COST UNDER £20K   - The Renault 5 EV Prototype is heading for production, although not until 2024, with a new platform and a target price under £20k.   When Renault revealed the new electric Renault 5 Prototype at the start of the year, it was hard to believe it was just a punt at a future EV, rather than a car with production intent, as it seemed to hit a rich vein of retro-modern style and promised much.   - To no one's great surprise, Renault has now announced that the Electric 5 will go into production as part of its plans to deliver 14 new models by 2025 – seven of which will be EVs – and arrive in 2024. So a bit of a wait then. When it does arrive, the Electric 5 will use new nickel, manganese and cobalt (NCM) batteries which, say Renault, will drastically reduce the overall battery cost and deliver a range of around 250 miles, 134bhp from its electric motor and be underpinned by a new CMF-BEV Platform designed for compact EVs.   Original Source : https://www.carsuk.net/electric-renault-5-heading-for-production-and-itll-cost-under-20k/   RENAULT 4EVER: BRAND TEASES ADDITIONAL SMALL EV   - Renault has confirmed it's developing a second B-segment EV, currently named the '4ever'. The  brand revealed the first details and a reductive teaser image of the  front end of the new car, showing a rectangular 'grille' and headlights  complete with Renault's new badge front and centre. It's designed to  invoke the classic Renault 4 – one of the brand's most iconic models –  and reimagine it for the electric age.   - The  new 4ever will use the brand's new CMF-BEV platform – an electric  version of the platform used on the Clio and Captur – which claims  around 248 miles of range on a charge.   Original Source : https://www.carmagazine.co.uk/car-news/first-official-pictures/renault/4-ev/   NEW RENAULT PLATFORM MAKES ELECTRIC VEHICLES ‘MORE AFFORDABLE'   - It says it will also strengthen its presence in the all-electric C-segment, firstly with the All-New MéganE in 2022, while the Alpine ‘dream garage' unveiled in January will become a reality, starting in 2024. The Group aims at providing the greenest mix in the European market in 2025, with more than 65% of vehicles in the sales mix electric and electrified, and up to 90% BEVs in the Renault brand mix by 2030.   - With CMF-EV and CMF-BEV platforms, the Group says it can capitalise on its 10 years' of EV experience making dedicated EV platforms along with its highly efficient CMF-B platform. For the C- and D-segment, the CMF-EV platform will represent 700,000 units at Alliance level by 2025. CMF-EV offers a range up to 360 miles (580km, WLTP).   - This performance, it says, comes from the Group and Nissan's engineers working on reduced friction, weight reduction and a state-of-the-art thermal management system.   - On top of these new technologies, the Group is also working on a more compact, all-in-one e-powertrain. This e-powertrain integrates the e-motor, the reducer and the power electronics (One Box Project) in a single package: enabling 45% less volume in total (equivalent to the volume of the current-generation Clio fuel tank), 30% reduction in cost of the overall powertrain (this value saving being the equivalent of the e-motor cost), and 45% reduction of wasted energy on WLTP allowing an extra EV range of up to 12 miles (20km).   Original Source : https://www.fleetnews.co.uk/news/latest-fleet-news/electric-fleet-news/2021/06/30/new-renault-platform-makes-electric-vehicles-more-affordable   GM AND SHELL WILL GIVE YOU FREE ELECTRICITY FOR YOUR ELECTRIC CAR   - While many companies and even countries have committed to going full-zero-emissions by a certain date, GM and Shell are going a step or two beyond that, offering to pay for the electricity to charge your electric car.   - “Coming this summer, owners of electric vehicles from GM brands will have the opportunity to select home energy plans that include the option for free overnight hours of EV charging1,” GM said in a release.   - You just have to own a GM EV, in Texas, and charge overnight. You can easily program your car to start and stop charging at certain times of the day or night, so it won't be that hard.   - “Owners of eligible Chevrolet electric vehicles (EV) will have the opportunity to schedule their EV to charge during the free overnight hours, from midnight to 5 a.m.”   Original Source : https://www.autoweek.com/news/green-cars/a36882632/gm-and-shell-free-electricity/   REVEL VOWS TO LAUNCH TESLA E-CAB SERVICE THIS SUMMER   - Brooklyn e-scooter-sharing company Revel is ploughing ahead with its plans roll out an all-electric cab fleet later this summer, despite the city's Taxi and Limousine Commission blocking the move last week. “We'll be launching a little later this summer,” said Revel co-founder and chief executive officer Frank Reig at the opening of the company's electric vehicle charging ‘superhub' in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn, on Tuesday, June 29.   - Revel originally wanted debut a fleet of 50 Teslas colored in the company's signature blue onto the streets of Downtown Manhattan. In order to bypass the the city's cap on new for-hire vehicles, the firm planned to use an exemption for electric vehicles, but TLC threw up a roadblock last week when commissioners voted to close that loophole.   - On Tuesday, the company cut the ribbon on its new electric vehicle charging hub at the old Pfizer factory on Flushing and Marcy avenues in Bedford-Stuyvesant, which will be open to the public to juice up their electric cars 24/7 starting Tuesday, with free charging for the first seven days   - the power center was supposed to support Revel's fleet of Tesla Model Y's, as well as charge EV's owned by the public at the rate of 39 cents per kilowatt-hour   Original Source : https://www.brooklynpaper.com/revel-vows-to-launch-tesla-e-cab-this-summer/   CRASHES INVOLVING TESLA AUTOPILOT AND OTHER DRIVER-ASSISTANCE SYSTEMS GET NEW SCRUTINY   · Original Source : https://www.nytimes.com/2021/06/29/business/tesla-autopilot-safety.html   TESLA WINS AGAINST GREEN ACTIVISTS WHO SOUGHT TO DELAY EUROPEAN PLANT Original Source : https://europe.autonews.com/automakers/tesla-wins-against-green-activists-who-sought-delay-european-plant   TESLA MODEL Y LAUNCH DATE AND PRICING IN HONG KONG REVEALED   Original Source : https://thedriven.io/2021/06/30/tesla-model-y-launch-date-and-pricing-in-hong-kong-revealed/   142 TESLA MEGAPACKS POWER ON TO CREATE GIANT NEW BATTERY, REPLACING GAS PEAKER PLANT IN CALIFORNIA Original Source : https://electrek.co/2021/06/30/tesla-megapacks-power-on-battery-replacing-gas-peaker-plant-california/   CHAR.GY AWARDED £6.4M FOR ON-STREET CHARGING IN THE UK   Original Source : https://www.electrive.com/2021/06/29/char-gy-awarded-6-4m-for-on-street-charging-in-the-uk/   NETHERLANDS LICENSES FIRST EV SMART CHARGING COMPANY TO PROVIDE GRID SERVICES   Original Source : https://www.pv-magazine.com/2021/06/30/netherlands-licenses-first-ev-smart-charging-company-to-provide-grid-services/?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter   CONNECTICUT INCREASES REBATES FOR ELECTRIC CAR PURCHASES   Original Source : https://www.nbcconnecticut.com/news/politics/connecticut-increases-rebates-for-electric-car-purchases/2517612/   GERMANY: PLUG-IN CAR SALES MORE THAN QUADRUPLED IN MAY 2021   Original Source : https://insideevs.com/news/517066/germany-plugin-sales-may-2021/   PORSCHE MACAN EV INTERIOR CAUGHT IN FRESH SPY PHOTOS   Original Source : https://www.autoblog.com/2021/06/29/porsche-macan-ev-interior-spy-photos/   NEW 2022 GENESIS GV60 ELECTRIC CROSSOVER CAUGHT ON CAMERA   Original Source : https://www.autoexpress.co.uk/genesis/108161/new-2022-genesis-gv60-electric-crossover-caught-camera   QUESTION OF THE WEEK WITH EMOBILITYNORWAY.COM   If you could only afford one, would you rather - Solar Panels or battery storage? Uber Lyft Drivers & Gig Economy Workers Weekly News:  This week we discuss the state of the Autonomous Vehicle Space, and Uber is FINALLY selling off their Autonomous division.   Joe Biden is promising to make all gig workers, employees, and saying he will "establish a three prong ABC test" modeling California's, there are some problems with this statement though.   UberReserve, now you can reserve an Uber anywhere from 2 hours-30 days out, and you can choose your favorite drivers.   Look out Phoenix/Scottsdale, Cruise has teamed up with Walmart to put driverless deliveries in Scottsdale starting in January 2021.   UberEats is now delivering prescriptions in 3 Texas cities, this is the 3rd attempt at this, so if this doesn't work that will be strike three!   DoorDash has filed its IPO with the SEC to go public, so far this year DoorDash has taken in $1.9 Billion in revenue, that said they are still sitting at $149 Million net loss.   Lyft is trying to enter the app-based delivery game.   Gig companies (Postmates, Uber, Lyft, DoorDash, GrubHub, and others) have teamed up with Stride to get gig workers health coverage through the ACA (Affordable Care Act/ObamaCare), enrollment is now through December 15th.   NYC: The Taxi and Limousine Commission is pushing legislation to get a "universal e-hail app", it would let you book taxi's as well as Uber/Lyft through the same app.   Cairo: Uber partners with Unilever to provide safety kits of masks and hand sanitizer to 30,000 drivers, and in-car separators to select few drivers, we'll have to see what this PR stunt is about.   Portland's City Commissioner Jo Ann Hardesty who oversees Portland's Emergency Dispatch System has been calling for "Defund The Police" from all angles, during a Lyft ride called 911 multiple times because the driver was following 'Lyft Coronavirus Safety Guidelines'.   Motional: the Aptiv-Hyundai $4 Billion venture aimed at commercializing autonomous vehicles is preparing to roll out full driverless vehicles on public roads in Las Vegas, today was approved by the state of Nevada.Rideshare Rodeo Podcast is presented by UberLyftDrivers.com

This is a bonus story about an issue that plagues the New York City Taxi Industry: Taxi Ride Service Refusals. Every year hundreds of passengers are refused service across the city. Service refusals primarily affect people with disabilities and communities in the outer boroughs who are disproportionately Black/People of Color. The Taxi and Limousine Commission’s latest campaign against taxi ride service refusals asks passengers to report drivers to 311 - but has this approach worked in the past? Julian and Yanny break it down by looking at the last time a taxi ride refusal caused a stir - when the Mayor of San Juan, Puerto Rico, Carmen Yulin Cruz and then City Council Speaker, Melissa Mark-Viverito, fought two yellow cab drivers. Tune in as we speak to one of the drivers, who for the first time ever, speaks about how it all went down. The 1989 Charter revisions reshaped the allocation of powers among the City Council, Mayor, Comptroller, Public Advocate (formerly known as the City Council President), and Borough Presidents, among others. Panelists will discuss the balance of powers and its implications, including: how and why these actors have exercised, or refrained from exercising, the powers granted under the Charter since 1989; how they have tested the limits of those powers with respect to each other and other participants in city government (including community decisionmakers); and what we can learn from how they have variously worked in cooperation and in conflict in defining their roles and achieving their objectives. Finally, looking to the future, what remains to be clarified and where are the potential tensions and opportunities? 1.5 Transitional CLE credits in Areas of Professional Practice will be available with this panel.
