Do you know the place you live in really well? I'm talking about Planet Earth here. Do you expect anything mysterious and quite inexplicable to happen on Earth? And there're dozens of weird places, strange natural phenomena that science fails to explain. For example, there're places with zero gravity: like the Stone of Davasco in Argentina. It's a huge 270-ton boulder that balances relative to its own foothold on the steep edge of the rock. It's pretty impressive and no rules of logic apply to this massive stone. Joining me to explore hidden places of mysterious origins and fascinating history is researcher and explorer, Salvatore M. Trento. Sal is the author of a series of books entitled “MYSTERIOUS PLACES OF” which covers areas of the Americas, including the Hudson Valley of NY. We will be seeking out hidden gems, strange anomalies, and how to find them. Salvatore Michael Trento, a graduate of Oxford University, did his early work on the Spanish Balearic Islands. There he helped excavate 3000-year-old megalithic monuments. His teams of geologists, archeologists, pilots, and graduate students spent years surveying and recording the unusual array of stonework. His recent eBooks include the revised/expanded versions of best-sellers: Field Guide to Mysterious Places of the West (Pruett), Field Guide to Mysterious Places of Eastern America and Field Guide to Mysterious Places of the Pacific Coast ( Holt). The new eBook versions of these books have expanded sections and new GPS data. One of the most popular destinations in the state of Arizona is the town of Sedona, which over the years has accrued a reputation as quite the mecca for New Agers and paranormal researchers from all over the country as well as droves of tourists every year. Arizona, and in particular this area is rather well-known for a high concentration of UFO sightings and for the mysterious energy vortices said to dot the landscape here, where earth energies crackle and which are believed to confer all manner of health benefits, as well as said to aid in meditation and self-reflection. It is largely because of these alleged magical vortices that a bustling business of spiritual healing tours and metaphysical medicine outfits have sprung up here, and one can already see that Sedona is already a rather strange and unique place in an already rather unique and strange state. However Sedona is also the home to a very unusual patch of land where there have long been reported all manner of high strangeness, from UFOs, to ghosts, to dinosaurs, and more.

Now that the business end is out of the way we can jump headfirst into today's dark enigma… so don your best ancient robes and grab your rosary as we jump into all things Biblical with today's offering of The Strange Biblical Mystery of the James Ossuary an The Mysterious Legendary Well of Souls – So hang on we're starting with the James Ossuary story Some of the most mysterious and sought after historical artifacts of all time hail from the Biblical era of history. Things like the Holy Grail have become some of the most enigmatic items there are, highly sought after but ever evasive, but for all of the well-known objects like the grail and the Ark of the Covenant that remain beyond our grasp, there are other, lesser known yet no less important artifacts that have apparently been found. One of these must certainly be a small, unassuming box which, if it is real, might pose the very first solid archeological evidence for Jesus Christ being an actual real person. In 2002, an engineer and collector and expert in Israeli antiquities by the name of Oded Golan approached a professor André Lemaire, a Semitic epigrapher at the Sorbonne University, in Paris, with a curious artifact he wanted appraised. The object in question was a limestone box that had apparently come from a cave, measuring 19.9 in × 9.8 in × 12.0 inches in dimension, and which seemed to date back to the 1st century. The box appeared to be what is called an "ossuary," which is a type of box once used as a depository for storing the bones of the dead, usually those of the wealthy elite. The corpse of the dead would be placed in a catacomb for approximately a year, after which the bones would be moved and interred within the box for their final resting place.
Asha and Terry learn more about Penang's 99-Door Mansion, also known as Caledonia House. It was owned by the wealthy Ramsden family who ran a rubber plantation in Malaya. In 1948, John St. Maur Ramsden, who was appointed to run the plantation, was murdered there - the house has been abandoned ever since. Who were the Ramsden family, and what was life like in this stunning colonial mansion back in the 1940s?
This week, we investigates some of the most mysterious places in Malaysia. On #TheLITEBreakfast, Asha and Terry find out more about the abandoned mansion of Mona Fandey, the infamous singer-turned-bomoh who was convicted of murder in 1993.

Hauntings and poltergeist activity are nothing new, and the lore of paranormal research holds countless examples. Every once in a while a case will truly bubble up from the rest to present an extremely strange and strong account. Lying within the country of England is an unassuming, normal looking house, which nevertheless has managed to go on to accrue a reputation as one of the most haunted locations in the nation. Here at this abode we have a rather volatile, frightening, and violent entity that has come to be known simply as the Black Monk. The year was 1966, and a family consisting of Jean and Joe Pritchard and their two children, Phillip, 15, and Diane, 12, moved into a quiet house on 30 East Drive, in Pontefract, West Yorkshire, England. It was not long after they had settled in that strange things began to happen around the home, starting, as these things tend to, rather innocently enough. The first main incident started on September 1, 1966, when the son Philip was staying at the home with his grandmother, Sarah Scholes, while the rest of the family was away on a trip to Devon.

Here is an enchanting land of magnificent ruins, soaring pyramids, and darkened tombs surrounded by whispers of curses and black magic. It is a place that has drawn the curiosity and study of archeologists and indeed the public for years, yet for all we have learned of this enigmatic place over the centuries there are still many secrets buried here in the desert sands, ensconced with mystery and as unknown as they always have been. One of these is an alleged network of subterranean tunnels and chambers whispered of in ancient and modern texts and forgotten for centuries, which are said to hold vast troves of lost knowledge and secrets and, if they exist, could change how we view history itself.

Some are benign, many are malevolent and there are others who live a parallel existence with humankind, but whose paths rarely cross. Many of these entities live in hidden kingdoms and palaces under the seas. At times they are associated with islands that humans cannot see and the sunken cities that are said to exist beneath the waves off our Celtic coasts. One such island is the magical vanishing island of Hildaland in the seas around Orkney, the group of islands situated off the north coast of Scotland.

Even without a history of ghosts and weirdness, these damp, gloomy places just seem to inspire dread in those who look upon them. Is it the expanses of untamed, weed choked wetlands, the shining eyes of alligators and other things slithering through the brush prowling the dark, or merely the twisted trees that poke up through the misty murk? Whatever it is, swamps need very little to make them even creepier than they already are. Yet, some swamps have outdone themselves, and drawn to them legends and tales that propel them beyond merely creepy places into full blown epicenters of the paranormal and unexplained. One such swamp oozes across a portion of Louisiana, and has long been the origin of stories of shadowy ghosts, Voodoo magic, and snarling beasts of the night.

We have lived in their shadows, worshipped at their feet, spun epic legends around them, feared them, revered them, and sacrificed to them. They have been the muse for countless artists, writers, and philosophers for thousands of years and inspired adventurers to push past their limits to ascend them. Mountains have also long drawn to them countless inexplicable mysteries and myths that gravitate around their craggy, cloud covered peaks and taunt those of us who would try and understand them.
History's Mysteries is an investigation into 35 archaeological mysteries from across the globe, organized by geographical region. As with Brian Haughton's previous book Hidden History, this work separates its collection of enthralling ancient riddles into three sections: Mysterious Places, Unexplained Artefacts, and Enigmatic People. The choice of subjects was made to include a wide range of cultures and a mixture of both the well known and the relatively obscure. Consequently you will read about India's celebrated Taj Mahal and the biblical Temple of Solomon, as well as the little known Royston Cave, in the UK, the infamous Rennes-le-Château, in France, and the forgotten site of Great Zimbabwe, in South Africa. But what constitutes an ancient mystery? The ancient world will more often than not be mysterious by its very nature. We can excavate buildings, artefacts, even sometimes texts, but we cannot know how the people of these ancient societies felt, what they believed or what motivated them to behave in the way they did. Nevertheless, modern science is allowing us the kind of access to secrets of the past which was only dreamt of a few decades ago. DNA studies, for example, of modern inhabitants of parts of Syria, Palestine, Tunisia, Morocco, Cyprus, and Malta have shown extraordinary connections with the ancient Phoenicians who once had colonies in those areas. Ongoing study, conservation, and sampling of The Uluburun Shipwreck, the remains of a 3,300 year old ship and its extraordinary cargo from the coast of southern Turkey, is discovering fascinating connections between ancient Canaan, Egypt, Mycenaean Greece, Italy and even the Baltic Sea area of Northern Europe. Science alone, however, will not give us a complete picture of the ancient world. But when combined with the study of mythology, folklore and sometimes simply a sharp change of viewpoint when looking back at the ancient world, science can be extremely enlightening. Indeed, it is surprising what can be accomplished by turning oneself off from a technology-obsessed 21st century mindset, for example in terms of understanding what the priorities may have been for the inhabitants of Nabta Play in the Egyptian desert 11,000 years ago, or the builders of Tenochtitlan in Mexico, around 700 years ago. Nevertheless, even if we could somehow project ourselves back into antiquity, one suspects that the magic and mystery which was undoubtedly a part of the everyday lives of many of these ancient civilizations would remain elusive. It is often said by 'alternative' historians that bringing a particularly controversial ancient site or artifact to the attention of the world will 'turn conventional wisdom on its head'. 'Conventional' archaeologists ('conventional' presumably meaning those who have studied and qualified as archaeologists) are criticized for not being open-minded enough to accept new theories and ideas. But, generally this is not the case, witness the (often heated) discussions surrounding genuinely challenging archaeological puzzles such as the extraordinary Turkish site of Göbekli Tepe, the enigmatic 'Venus' figurines of the last Ice Age, the abandonment of Mesa Verde, or the volcanic eruption which destroyed the Mediterranean island of Thera. Spurious 'ancient' artifacts or sites (such as the Oak Island Treasure or The Dendera Lamps) are anything but a challenge to 'conventional' archaeology. The furore surrounding these subjects on the web and in various print publications is the result of speculation based on the preconceived agenda of the writer, and as such has no place in history or archaeology. It is this distinction between genuine and bogus ancient mysteries that History's Mysteries attempts to clarify. Sometimes a few hours research and a generous helping of critical thinking can dispense with anything in the second category. In writing History's Mysteries Haughton has not attempted to justify personal prejudices regarding the enigmas of the ancient world. Listener Discretion is therefore advised. Welcome heathens welcome to the world of the weird and unexplained. I'm your host, Nicole Delacroix and together, we will be investigating stories about the things that go bump in the night, frighteningly imagined creatures, supernatural beings and even some unsolved mysteries and all sorts of weirdness. So, sit back, grab your favorite drink, and prepare to be transported to today's dark Enigma.... And on today's Dark enigma well, we have a listener suggestion and I was fascinated by the email so I hope I do it justice – but it's a ton of Nordic names so I'm bound to hose them, so it should be funny! So, with that said, we will still be playing our drinking game and as you know, the drinking game is only for those of us that are at home and have nowhere else to go tonight. The choice of libation, as always my darlings, is yours, so choose your poison accordingly… Alright, now for the game part how about every time I say cave that will be a single shot and every time I say fire, that will be a double shot. Now that the business end is out of the way we can jump headfirst into today's dark enigma… so grab your cold weather gear as we head out into the land of Fire and Ice as we explore todays episode and The Mysterious Cave of the Fire Giant of Iceland! When you think of Iceland, you think of its beautiful natural attractions - the lights, the glaciers, and the geysers everything is so beautifully put together. It's best if you're an outdoor lover as most activities and must-visits are really close and deal with nature. Blue Lagoon is one of the top tourist destinations; it's a spa with mineral-enriched water that's healthy for your skin. Aside from that, make sure to drop by Thingvellir National Park and Jökulsárlón, which is one of the most stunning tourist attractions you'll see. There are plenty of activities that await you here, such as swimming, hiking, and waiting - for the lights, specifically. It may be a romantic trip for couples but also perfectly enjoyed by families.

So, with that said, we will still be playing our drinking game and as you know, the drinking game is only for those of us that are at home and have nowhere else to go tonight. Now that the business end is out of the way we can jump headfirst into today's dark enigma… so don…your best Hockey Jersey, and grab some maple syrup, shit, I don't know what Canada is famous for, just nice people and healthcare…ok Let's jump into Today's Dark Enigma and The Mysteries of Deadman's Island Is there a point when a place can be so saturated with suffering and violence that this anguish somehow possesses it? I don't necessarily mean with ghosts and goblins, but with images, impressions, and textures gleaned from an evil past that have permeated a place to the point where these become palpable textures within our reality, like images of light imprinted onto film or voices on a tape. I have often pondered this when looking at locations of ruthless history that have, for whatever reasons, become inextricably linked to weirdness and the unexplained. Is human folklore and superstition more than enough to make this so, or are there some forces which we have yet to understand allowing blackened, vile history to make its mark upon our world, allowing these atrocities to come back and haunt us as surely as the image of a dead loved one can?

Aaand on air! I don't know if this happens to anyone, but whenever I watch a documentary, I like how I lose myself in it. For me, it depends. If it is quite mechanical, I'll be sleeping like 10 min after I start watching. Well, honestly bud, It's difficult to remember a time when you watched something properly till the end. t's not my fault to be selective. I just can't keep watching EVERYTHING like you. I have a taste, you know. Well, now I question what kind of a taste would make you fall asleep even in thrillers?! It's just… meh.. I can't really find an excuse. You're right. What hooks you in most of the documentaries anyway? It is like you're watching a movie but at the same time you know that it is not a plot, quite the opposite, it is something that truly exists or happened.. or might have happened. Ahh, that's exactly what a realistic person like you would say.. So guys, I'm so happy to tell you we're trying a different concept today. Take it as an audio documentary. We're diving into some places with question marks on earth. We'll be talking about them briefly.. Normally, before each episode, we split the topics but this time we'll be giving you mini trailers for each place we'll mention. We've got a lot to do! Let's start. Our first place is from Minnesota, there is this “The Devil's Kettle Waterfall” which seems to be like any other one in the world. I wonder who named this place. What's so different about this waterfall? When you take a closer look, you'll see that it actually has 2 different bodies. One side is falling into another body of water. Which is quite understandable. How about the other one? This is the tricky part. The other one falls straight into a huge natural hole in the ground. Nobody knows where exactly it leads to. From putting a bunch of ping-pong balls to dye into the waterfall. They tried to understand it in different ways. There was no trace of these at all? Nope. Eventually it has to go somewhere, Idk maybe into the ground. Anyways, what do you have to tell? I'll start with “Stonehenge” Oh come on! You're literally taking the easy way out. What?! Stonehenge is a mystery, too! I thought you'd find lesser known spots. [trying to tease him up] Who says I didn't? So, these giant stones have been in this spot for thousands of years. They are said to be constructed in 6 stages between the years 3000 and 1520 BCE. Phew, it is so amazing how they built up these. It's so crazy how people lifted those heavy stones without any technology back then. They could weigh up to 37 tons. Today we still don't know how and what exactly they were built for. It reminds me of Moais of Easter Island we talked about before. Me too! Anyway, since you know about “Stonehenge” already, I can tell you about the Hessdalen Lights as an extra. Does it ring a bell? Hmm. Give me more clues. Dancing lights in the sky? Like northern lights? Kind of.. but different... Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
We said 97 in the intro. We were wrong. This week we talk about the haunted Bhangarh Fort in India. A place surrounded by spooky stories and mysterious signs, but is something weird really going on? We also talk about the extremely strange stories surrounding the terrifying Bennington Triangle. Kate is a psychology graduate & Abbie is a demonologist. Together they talk about all things scary, strange and silly. Welcome to Myths, Magic and Murder! Website and merch - mythsmagicandmurder.com Support us on Patreon to help us keep creating podcasts! After all, many may not know much about its culture or people outside of the news stories documenting its various internal conflicts. This European country, long plagued – and currently plagued – by political turmoil and unrest, is the largest country to be contained entirely within Europe and the region has a long, storied history stretching back to the first human habitation in 32,000 BC. Ukraine is also notable for its rich biodiversity and its diversity of geological features, as well as for its vast natural resources.

There seem to be places in this world to which strangeness seems to gravitate. Whether it is their geography, topography, or some inexplicable, unseen forces, these locations possess what can only be described as a certain disconnect from reality as we know it. They are imbued with some sort of undercurrent of mystery, strangeness, and sometimes even terror. Certainly an area that fits the bill as one of the most singularly bizarre locations on the planet is Freetown-Fall River State Forest, Massachusetts; a place so saturated in the bizarre and unexplained that it has become almost the very definition of the term “haunted forest.”

Yet it seems that ghostly phenomena are not confined to merely this common notion of what haunted places should be. At times, there come such cases from the far flung corners of the world that may not match the traditional ideas of hauntings, and one such place is certainly the Himalayas. The Himalayas is one of the most well-known mountain ranges in the world. Located on the Indian subcontinent, the Himalayas are home to nine of the ten highest mountains on earth, including the Mega Mountains Everest and K2, among others. And while this range may be well known for mysteries such as the Yeti, it is not a place typically associated with ghosts, yet here in the cold wilds there are accounts of specters and entities just as spooky as anywhere else.

Historical oddities reach up through time and meld with those of the present, generating a continuum of puzzling enigmas and high strangeness reaching back into the blurry recesses of time and out into the uncertain future. One such location can be found in the country of Hungary, situated within its largest city. It is an awe-inspiring, vast labyrinth of darkened, winding passages stretched out within the bowels of the earth under one of the nation's most treasured historical spots, and through which have long echoed a brooding history punctuated by curious mysteries that have continued up to the modern day. Here is a place that offers up a strange brew mixing sinister history, general weirdness, supernatural menace, and ominous tales of government conspiracies and cover-ups. Let us journey down into the inky black depths of this mysterious labyrinth.

Rather he has been guided by the facts, even if, in the end, they can sometimes be unsatisfactory. - www.mysteriouspeople.com ****************************************************************** To listen to all our XZBN shows, with our compliments go to: https://www.spreaker.com/user/xzoneradiotv *** AND NOW *** The ‘X' Zone TV Channel on SimulTV - www.simultv.com The ‘X' Chronicles Newspaper - www.xchroniclesnewspaper.com ******************************************************************
Please be aware the stories, theories, re-enactments and language in this podcast are of an adult nature and can be considered disturbing, frightening and in some cases even offensive. Listener Discretion is therefore advised. Welcome heathens welcome to the world of the weird and unexplained. I'm your host, Nicole Delacroix and together, we will be investigating stories about the things that go bump in the night, monsters lurking under your bed or deep in the forest, that unknown creature lurking just out of sight and frighteningly imagined creatures, ghosts, supernatural beings and even some unsolved mysteries. So, sit back, grab your favorite drink, and prepare to be transported to today's dark Enigma.... And on today's Dark enigma well, I got a listener comment that said I don't spend any time in the Northern states. I disagree, I've done plenty of stories about the Northern states, but since you asked I shall indulge you with a tale from up North, so nyah. Alright, with that said, we will still be playing our drinking game and as you know, the drinking game is only for those of us that are at home and have nowhere else to go tonight. The choice of libation is yours, so choose your poison accordingly… Alright, now for the game part how about every time I say Zombie that will be a single shot and every time I say Green, that will be a double shot. Ok, now that the business end is out of the way we can jump headfirst into today's dark enigma… so don your pilgrim's best fashions and prepare yourself for Pennsylvania Zombie Land and the Harrowing Tale of the Green Man Some places seem to have become so incredibly infused with weirdness that they push beyond even their own otherworldly boundaries to become breeding grounds for plentiful tales of the bizarre and urban legends. These are places in which reality, the supernatural, and the twisted imaginings of the human mind mash together into a mixture of oddities, half-truths, and potential real phenomena from which it is nearly impossible to extract what is really going on. One such place is a spooky little plot of woodland located within the U.S. state of Pennsylvania, where the real, the strange, and the surreal wastelands of our dreams and nightmares seem to twist together into one confounding, inscrutable entity. It is a place from which numerous odd tales and urban legends have sprung to life, and which in at least one case have firm, concrete roots in reality. This is Zombie Land, where eerie legends, potentially supernatural phenomena, and the truth collide.

The Bermuda Triangle...the Zone of Silence...Lake Titicaca - All these places, and more, have either reported cases, or legendary claims of interdimensional gateways and wormholes used by the gods; as well as airplane disappearances, electromagnetic spikes, and the World Grid. But are electromagnetic anomalies enough to make these claims? Steve and Joey probe into the first standard length episode of the History Channel’s Ancient Aliens which is all about the strange energy that these mysterious places hold. Einstein’s Theory of Special Relativity is put to the test by the Ancient Astronaut Theorists, and explained with (perhaps a little too much) confidence about its potential to create galactic shortcuts through which our extra terrestrial friends might have travelled.
In This Episode We Take A Look A The Strange Phenomena Known As The Bermuda Triangle. We Discuss What The Cause or Causes Could Be As Well As Tell Stories Of People Who Have Made It Through Some Bizarre Happenings In The Bermuda Triangle. We Also Delve Into Some Not So Famous Mysterious Places With Similiar Outcomes.

Friend of the show Nick Redfern returns as our guest this week to discuss Mysterious Places -- including Loch Ness -- the strange phenomena that occur in such places, and what may make such locations so weird. The call-in lines will be open starting at the bottom of the hour, so be ready to dial up Uncanny Radio and ask your questions. (Please be patient waiting online!) Manwolf and Linda -- and Nick -- look forward to hearing from you!
