Doug led one of the world's most successful venture firms, Sequoia, for over 25 years after he was given responsibility for the firm by its founder, Don Valentine, in 1996. Alongside Mike Moritz, the pair managed its expansion from a single $150m early-stage fund into an $85 billion global powerhouse. It was a privilege to sit down with Doug and learn from him. We talk about his tough start at Sequoia, get into the technicalities of great go-to-market motions, and survey his advice for other investors in the industry. A key theme that will stick with me from this conversation is Doug's insistence on keeping things simple and clear. I listen to this at least once a year. I hope you enjoy it. Host Andrea Jaeger shares her own personal stories and along with cohost Adriana Solarova, asks fascinating questions to Little Star Light's extraordinary guest, a rescuer of the largest mammals on the planet. "I have never been satisfied with just fighting the good fight. We need to actually make a difference." That quote is from the president of IFAW, The International Fund for Animal Welfare. Brian Sharp is the Director of Marine Mammal Rescue at IFAW. Brian oversees international response training and leads rescue missions, harnessing the power of more than 200 volunteers.Brian and his coworkers are experts and everyday people working across seas, oceans, land, and in more than 40 countries around the world, they rescue, rehabilitate and release animals and restore and protect their natural habitats. The problems they are up against are urgent and complicated to solve them. They match fresh thinking with bold action. They partner with local communities, governments, non-governmental organizations and businesses. Together they pioneer new and innovative ways to help all species flourish and they are powered by human connections. Brian has rescued animals larger than any scale you may think exist, those animals include large whales, sea turtles, manatees, and countless dolphins. As a permitted level 5 responder Brian is one of the few rescue professionals authorized by the U.S. National, Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration to disentangle whales within American waters. Brian empowers audiences, “We are the stewards” and “for people to care, we need them to understand.” www.ifaw.org and www.littlestar.orgWelcome to the Little Star Light PodcastIt is exciting to have you as a listener of Little Star Light, a podcast dedicated to sharing stories of courage and inspiration with our hosts and guests during uplifting, entertaining and intriguing conversations. Impact Theory with Tom Bilyeu Key Takeaways Inflation is a hidden tax on the people; instead of the government openly taking your money with direct taxation, it creates new money out of thin air which robs people of their purchasing powerGovernments debase their currency because they know there is no other way to pay their existing debts In the United States, houses used to cost about 3x the median income; now they cost about 10x the median income “If it doesn't have intrinsic value, then it's not going to be money.” – Peter Schiff“This is the best macro opportunity of all time.” – Raoul Pal on bitcoin People wrongly assume that the dollars we print will always have value, regardless of how many dollars are printed Central banks are paying the debts by printing money; this is pure monetary debasement Papering over the debts with more printed money does not solve the fundamental problem Politicians do not do what is best for the country; they do what is best for their careers, which is often at odds with what is best for the country“They are going to keep on printing until the dollar collapses.” – Peter Schiff The free market tries to lower prices by increasing productivity while the government tries to raise prices by creating inflation Using inflation to melt away existing debts is not the “right” choice, but it is the expedient choice – and likely the option that politicians will choose We will deal with the consequences of currency debasement once the can cannot be kicked any further down the road Read the full notes @ podcastnotes.orgWelcome back to part 2 of this power-packed debate with Peter Schiff and Raoul Pal! www.wearemosaicchurch.orgPrayer:Connection: Giving: Baptism: Pastor Broderick Santiago delivered a sermon on worship, emphasizing that it is more than just singing songs. Worship is about expressing love, adoration, and surrender to God in all aspects of our lives. He referenced biblical passages, including Psalm 95:6 and the story of Mary and Martha, to illustrate the importance of prioritizing an intimate connection with God over external activities. Pastor Santiago encouraged a Spirit-led life, a heart of gratitude, and surrender to God's will as key components of true worship. He shared a powerful story of a young girl named Sarah, reminding the congregation that worship is not contingent on circumstances, but on the unchanging character of God.Mosaic ChurchMableton GAPastor Broderick Santiagowww.wearemosaicchurch.orgWelcome to the Mosaic Church podcast where we share with you the message of hope and love. "Age of Miracles" Key Takeaways More energy means more humanity flourishing Nuclear fission is the cleanest and safest form of energy that we have As of 2022, nuclear energy accounts for 20% of the electric gridEnergy is a positive-sum game; the more we have, the better we do! A shift is occurring in the United States: In 2023, 57% of Americans say they favor more nuclear power plants to generate electricity in the country, up from 43% who said the same in 2020What if you were told the nuclear industry was the only industry that managed its toxic waste… wouldn't you be impressed? All of the nuclear waste that has been produced in the United States can fit inside of a football field, stacked 10 meters high It is impossible to create nuclear weapons from nuclear fuelUsing more energy raises the floor and ceiling for humanity; it can bring the rest of the world up to the Western standard of living, and help power all of the futuristic technology that entrepreneurs will create The amount of radiation that leaked out of the Three Mile Island incident was about the same amount of radiation that you would be exposed to getting a chest X-ray at the doctor – a negligible amount The reaction to Fukushima was completely overblown: it is debated whether zero people or one person died from any sort of radiation at FukushimaWhile nuclear fission has matured from a technological perspective, it has gotten bogged down from a political, cultural, economic, and regulatory perspectiveSignificant strides are being made in nuclear fusion; it actually might be less than 30 years away! Read the full notes @ podcastnotes.orgWelcome to the first episode of the first season of “Age of Miracles”. This new show from Packy McCormick, investor and writer of the Not Boring newsletter, asks the question: how do we create a future of abundance? This season, we're exploring the future of energy – specifically, diving deep into nuclear energy, both fission and fusion. The world needs more energy, not less, argues Packy, and nuclear has been neglected as a clean, reliable source of energy for too long. Joining Packy as co-host this season is Julia DeWahl, who previously helped scale SpaceX's Starlink and Opendoor and is now co-founder of micro-nuclear reactor startup Antares. In this episode, Packy and Julia set the stage for the season. They start with how they each got nuke-pilled and how the global narrative on energy has shifted, following events like the war in Ukraine and growing inflation. Next, they bust the three most common myths about nuclear energy: it's too unsafe, there's too much nuclear waste, and nuclear energy = nuclear weapons. And then they set the stage for the real challenges we'll tackle this season: the economics of nuclear power, regulation and the role of government, and the power of public perception. If you're curious about the future of energy, technology, or how to get out of a doomer loop and start working towards an abundant future, join us. Huberman Lab Introduction View things close up (a few inches to 2 feet away) and far away (4-8 feet away) throughout the day – we spend a lot of time only looking at things close up (i.e., on our phones) Near-sightedness is increasing at record rates as a resultThe length of the eyeball and movement of the lens is influenced by how close or far we view things, especially during the development If you only look at things close up, the image lands too close to the lens and leads to nearsightednessStudies have shown kids develop myopia if they look at screens too much during developmentTip #1: spend time daily visually scanning at a distance, or walking and not looking at anything in particular – the general rule of thumb: for every hour you spend looking at things 3 ft away or less, get at least an hour per day looking at things further awayTip #2: time outside per day in sunlight (ideally 2 hours per day) leads to a lower incidence of myopia, particularly in children Time in sunlight doesn't have to be free of screens or work, just time in sunlight or opening a window to get natural light exposureTip #3: check out the smooth pursuit visual tasks or near-far vision exercises to offset or reverse vision lossNutrition and supplements for eye health: get enough vitamin A in the purest food form (found in leafy greens, liver, etc.), lutein from food sources (such as eggs) may help protect against age-related macular degenerationThere are people who swear by reducing reliance on corrective lenses and working on eye health exercises to improve vision Red light research: exposure to red light (650-720 nm range) early in the day (1-3 minutes) can offset some age-related vision declineRead the full notes @ podcastnotes.orgWelcome to a preview of the sixth Ask Me Anything (AMA) episode, part of the Huberman Lab Premium subscription. I break down the key learnings so that by the end of the episode, you'll have something simple you can apply as you develop into a better leader. That's what this podcast is all about! Today's guest is Stanley Druckenmiller, the #1 investor in the world. I know, that's a big claim! But get this: during his 30 years managing money for investors, he had an average annual return of 31%. And he NEVER had a down year. So if you're even a little interested in finance, you're going to learn a lot from Stan – including some really practical investment advice and his take on the future of our economy. But more importantly, there's a huge leadership lesson to learn. Stan isn't afraid to envision the future differently than other people. He can see trends and patterns others can't – and then he has the courage to act on them. That's a skill EVERY leader needs to develop. Seeing the future differently allows us to spot opportunities and prepare for what's coming. If we just go with the flow of what's current, we'll always just be a part of the trend, not ahead of it. You're about to see for yourself how great leaders aren't afraid to see the future differently. So here is my conversation with my good friend, and soon to be yours, Stanley Druckenmiller.

Bio is breaking out of the lab and clinic and into our daily lives -- on the verge of revolutionizing our world in ways we are only just beginning to imagine. Many diseases are caused by proteins that have gone haywire in some fashion. There could be too much of the protein, it could be mutated, or it could be present in the wrong place or time. So how do you get rid of these problematic proteins? In this episode of Journal Club (now on Bio Eats World), Stanford professor Carolyn Bertozzi and host Lauren Richardson discuss the article “Lysosome-targeting chimaeras for degradation of extracellular proteins” by Steven Banik, Kayvon Pedram, Simon Wisnovsky, Green Ahn, Nicholas Riley, and Carolyn Bertozzi, published in Nature (2020).Dr. Bertozzi and her lab developed a class of drugs — or modality — that tosses the disease-related proteins into the cellular trash can. While there are other drugs that work through targeted protein degradation, these drugs called LYTACs are able to attack a set of critical proteins, some of which have never been touched by any kind of drug before. The conversation covers how they engineered these new drugs, their benefits, and how they can be further optimized and specialized in the future.
