Quinlan's Kerry Fish, based in Cahersiveen, have become famous for providing the very best Wild, Organic and Superior Smoked Salmon and fresh seafood to customers across the world. The operation was originally started by Danish company called Rainbow who were really ahead of their time with trawlers, fish meal plant, mink farm to use waste etc but went burst soon after and some local fishermen including Michael Quinlan bought the processing factory to secure an outlet for their fish. Although renamed Kerry Fish at the time, over the years it became known as Quinlan's and in 1996 Michael and his eldest son, Liam, bought out the shareholders so it was most definitely Quinlan's. At that time they were exporting a lot of Mackerel and Herring all over the world  to such places as Japan, Nigeria, Egypt and they also had their own fishing trawlers. While some of the catch made decent money in Spain and throughout Europe, some didn't and these species were also favoured by the Irish public so in 1990 the team decided to open some wet fish shops – they have 6 in total now – so they could add value in that way and they were and still are very successful. Following on from that they decided to open Fish n chip/Seafood bars – they have 6 of these as well!! - and again these are a great success with access to their own catch making the supply chain very short. While they still export quite a lot of seafood such as Prawns, Monkfish and Sole all over Europe Smoked Salmon has been the product that has stood the test of time and with several Great Taste and Blas Na hEireann awards, they take immense pride in selling and delivering it all over the Globe. They have built up a super loyal customer base and as Christmas approaches they feel so lucky to have a handsome repeat customer base. The business has now been fully passed down to the second generation of Quinlan's with brothers Liam, Ronan and Fintan, all at the helm. Given the amount of time this man spends travelling the globe, I am delighted to have sitting in front of me, Liam, Michael's eldest son. His main objective in the business is to seek opportunities to continually grow and expand the company. He also ensures that every customer is supplied with the freshest of fish and responds to their comments and suggestions, as part of the company's policy to ensure ongoing customer satisfaction. I think we are in for a mouthwatering discussion! This is the 41st episode with guest Liam Quinlan, Group MD, Quinlan's Kerry Fish, in the Davy podcast series 'Everyday Business with Aidan Donnelly'.

Jen is sick, so Sung Hee is filling in. In this episode, we recap and analyze Episode 14 of It's Okay to Not Be Okay, the hit K Drama on Netflix. In this episode, the story is The Hand, The Monkfish. We think this story is autobiographical for Meun Young, whose mom thought she was perfect and protected her and kept her in the cursed castle. We learn that Nurse Park is Meun Young's mom and turns out that she killed the Moon brothers' mom. It also appears that she killed Meun Young's dad by pulling the plug on the machines keeping him alive. Meun Young runs away when she learns who her mom is. We learn more about Meun Young's mom, including her medical background and how she stayed at the hospital for 20 years to watch her husband suffer. At the end of the show, Do Hui Jae convinces Sang Tae to go with her and they end up at the cursed castle, with Sang Tae unconscious or dead.We talk about how Gang Tae, Sang Tae and Meun Young are processing the fact that Nurse Park is Meun Young's mom and how they are protecting each other. The publisher and Ju-ri are starting to show their feelings toward each other. We also get an update on some of the patients at the OK Hospital. At the end of the show, Joanna and Jen discuss the shows they are considering for Season 3 of K Drama Chat.References:Butterfly by BTSWhat is makgeolli?

From the Intro: “In the 1970's, long before podcasts like our own, there were radio shows whose reach was perhaps more limited, but whose impact was still powerful. Among the best of those shows was “In the Spirit” on WBAI in New York City, in which Lex Hixon interviewed some of the best, most interesting spiritual teachers and thinkers of the 1970s—Alan Watts, Tarthang Tulku, Rabbi Zalman Schachter, Ram Dass. But what made the show really special was Hixon himself, a deep spiritual thinker and practitioner who would soon make his own mark, and whose insight and sincere questions made the show far more interesting. In 2016, Paul Cohen of Monkfish Publishing, published these interviews in a book edited by Sheila Hixon called Conversations in the Spirit: Lex Hixon's WBAI “In the Spirit” Interviews: A Chronicle of the Seventies Spiritual Revolution. We will be using the book, with permission from Monkfish, to look at some of these interviews in the context of where we are today. The first interview we want to examine is from October 8, 1978, with Sufi master Pir Vilayat Inayat Khan (1916-2004), who is the son of Hazrat Inayat Khan (1882-1927), the first Sufi master in the West and the founder of Inayati or Universalist Sufism. This interview, unlike many others, was recorded on-location at the Abode of the Message, Pir Vilayat's Sufi spiritual community in New Lebanon, New York.”Using the interview as a jumping-off point, our dialogue explores the ongoing tension between universalism and particularism, ‘pure' and ‘syncretic' religions, and how to honor a tradition, such as Islamic Sufism, in the face of changes in spiritual perspective, some of which are embodied in Universalist Sufism. Along the way, we reflect on the life and legacy of these two spiritual giants, who were both a part of a larger web of figures on the forefront of the 1970's ‘spiritual revolution' in America, and its impulse towards interspirituality, unity, and spiritual freedom. To supplement our dialogue and exploration, we use samples from the original recording of this interview, which may be found here.If you are interested in the book, Conversations in the Spirit: Lex Hixon's WBAI “In the Spirit” Interviews: A Chronicle of the Seventies Spiritual Revolution edited by Sheila Hixon, it may be purchased here.Links:Charis Foundation for New Monasticism and InterSpiritualityGolden Turtle SoundSupport the show

After presenting Top Gear for 12 years, May now presents Prime Video's The Grand Tour, as well as a cooking programme entitled “Oh Cook!”, a play on his famous catchphrase. May also hosted a travel series named James May: Our Man in Japan, and following its success, he hits the road again with a journey around the beautiful Italy. James May loves a curry, so Angela cooks a tasty Sri Lankan Monkfish recipe, whilst Nick mixes the G&T's. Round the table, they discuss James' latest role as landlord of (half) a pub, his new series, Our Man in Italy and perhaps what the internet will remember him for, cheese. Just so you know, our podcast might contain the occasional mild swear word or adult theme. All recipes from this podcast can be found at waitrose.com/dishrecipes We can't all have a Michelin star chef in the kitchen, but you can ask Angela for help. Chef and restauranteur Emily Scott joins us to discuss her new cookbook, Sea & Shore: Recipes and Stories from a Cook and Her Kitchen in Cornwall, featuring over 80 simple and seasonal recipes from England's southwest coast.    Recipe: Monkfish, Cornish chorizo and sun blush tomatoes on rosemary skewers Serves 8 MONKFISH, or lotte in French, is known as the poor man's lobster. It is a delicious, robust and wonderful ingredient that I love to cook and eat. It works so well with bolder flavours, such as curries, or can be cooked over fire or even refined by serving as a ceviche. Here, the combination of monkfish, chorizo and sun blush tomatoes is delicious. Threading them on to rosemary skewers is pretty and adds a depth of flavour to the fish.   1 x 200 g (7 oz) jar sun blush tomatoes, drained, reserving the oil 1 medium chorizo, about 225 g (8 oz), cut into 1 cm (1/2 in) rounds 650 g (1 lb 7 oz) monkfish fillet, cut into chunks 12 long rosemary sprigs, plus extra leaves for sprinkling 100 ml (31/2 fl oz/scant 1/2 cup) olive oil Cornish sea salt and freshly ground black pepper   To serve handful of rocket (arugula) leaves hot buttered Cornish new potatoes mixed leaf salad with edible flowers   Preheat a barbecue or grill (broiler) to high. Place the sun blush tomatoes in a large bowl and add the sliced chorizo. Using a skewer, pierce a hole through each piece of monkish, then toss in the bowl with the tomatoes and chorizo. Thread alternately onto rosemary skewers, allowing 3 pieces of each ingredient on each skewer. Barbecue or grill (broil) the monkfish skewers on all sides, keeping them moving, for a total of 6 minutes, or until browned at the edges. Drizzle with with olive oil and sprinkle with salt, pepper and rosemary leaves. Lay the grilled monkfish skewers on rocket leaves and serve with hot buttered Cornish new potatoes and a kitchen leaf salad with summer flowers. They discuss the reappearance of Al Boum Photo in Tramore, chat about the impressive Monkfish in Leopardstown and all are agreed that Bravemansgame looks the real deal. Covid and the continued implications for Racing. Ayr and their late cancellation, Cheltenham without the Irish. All of this and Twitter questions answered.

Maddy Playle is joined by Graeme Rodway, Brendan Duke and Paddy Power's Paddy Kennelly as they look back at all of the biggest racing action from the weekend. The panel review Al Boum Photo’s seasonal reappearance and take a look at some of the other Gold Cup challengers who were seen over the festive period. The Savills chase provided the most clues but our panel don’t think the winner will go on to success at Cheltenham. What will the Cheltenham Festival look like this year? With national lockdowns, border closures and an increase in Covid spreading, will we see a festival behind closed doors with no Irish runners? The Cheltenham theme continues with the panel salivating at the thoughts of Monkfish vs Envoi Allen in the 2022 Gold Cup and Graeme picking out two potential big price runners in the Champion Hurdle who can’t be ignored. The team end on a look at Saturday’s runners and riders in the rescheduled Welsh Grand National at Chepstow. Brendan and Paul are in agreement with a certain horse that just loves running in races that include ‘National’ in the race name.

Marketing Monkfish The first part of this episode is about germs including dog poo plus the Three Second and the 30 Second Rules. The episode is not about how to market germs and piranha - it is about how to market monkfish. This is the first ever episode about monkfish marketing in the history of podcasting. Roger and Paul grapple with how to make a monkfish attractive. [There is a story from Roger's days as a journalist in Slovenia.] Don’t show the piglet, just show the bacon Don’t show the monkfish, just show the tail. What would a specialist monkfish shop need to do? Rogers Real Monkfish stall in the English market. Lambs and Bambi are touched on. Impromptu story from Roger: How to succeed at a job interview for a global security company: “Remake Die Hard”. Several minutes are spent discussing storylines for such a film, including “Home Alone for your security products”. The conclusion is the maybe the storyline is more suitable for a Netflix serial? The mother of all monkfish. But how do you market monkfish in Cork? Use a massive aquarium. Remove the teeth. “You have to brainstorm bad ideas as well”. Revelation: What Roger thinks would make somebody turn vegan. New Tagline: Save the world from the monkfish. Exterminating monkfish. This episode goes from one macabre scenario to public hangings. And there’s no point in telling you any more about this episode. You would be much better to listen to it all - including Rogers plea that he be corrected. First, we talk about that video of that poor monkfish that made the internet rounds a while back, which leads to more seafood, and we thus revel in the glory of shrimp. Second, we talk about inconsiderate people, which then leads to why we've got "that" hate. Then, Brexit. Adam insults England, Rodney then speculates on a modern English Revolution destined for American shores, which then leads to a song about losing your memory, but also being really pissed at someone. You're just not sure who. Finally, a song that starts about a sandwich but leads to a Space Elevator. See? Segues.

We encounter “meta” most often in the word metaphor. We create metaphors when we see the same pattern in two, unrelated things.Shakespeare wrote, “All the world's a stage, and all the men and women merely players. They have their exits and their entrances, and one man in his time plays many parts.” But Shakespeare wasn't the first to see the similarity between the world and a stage. Seneca the Younger – sixteen hundred years before Shakespeare – wrote, “Life is like a play: it's not the length, but the excellence of the acting that matters.” In his marvelous new book, Metaphors Be With You, Dr. Mardy Grothe reveals the importance of metaphors in everyday communication: “Metaphor is the energy charge that leaps between images, revealing their connections.” – Robin Morgan “Effective metaphor does more than shed light on the two things being compared. It actually brings to the mind's eye something that has never before been seen.” –Rebecca McClanahan The poet Robert Frost said, “An idea is a feat of association, and the height of it is a good metaphor.” “Metaphor isn't just for poets; it's in ordinary language and is the principal way we have of conceptualizing abstract concepts like life, death, and time.” – More Than Cool Reason, George Lakoff and Mark Turner “Meta” has recently evolved a second meaning. It now refers to things that are self-referential. Ben Zimmer tells of a librarian named Lauren Dodd who recently tweeted, “Just saw a librarian shush other librarians at a library conference.” (Indy Beagle is chuckling his signature, “Heh, heh, heh,” after reading that over my shoulder.) Educational psychologist Jerome Bruner talks about “how to get students to reflect, to turn around on themselves, to go ‘meta,' to think about their ways of thinking.” Yep, “to think about your ways of thinking” would definitely qualify as self-referential. In his book, Tilting Cervantes, my friend Bruce Burningham says, “We delight in the notion of a stand-up comedian named Jerry Seinfeld who creates a sitcom on NBC in which he plays a stand-up comedian named Jerry Seinfeld who eventually creates a sitcom on NBC in which he plays a stand-up comedian named Jerry Seinfeld.” If triple-meta were a recognized designation, I believe Bruce Burningham's sentence would qualify. To understand a thing that is new and different, you need only search for what it is like.Monkfish is the poor man's lobster. Success is a bastard with many fathers, but failure is an orphan. America is a melting pot. You are my sunshine. He drowned in a sea of grief. Every new concept, invention, innovation or idea reflects an established pattern. That pattern has just never been used in this application before. Contemplate a metaphor. See the pattern. Consider how it might be used as a solution to your problem. Do this again and again and your spinning brain will soon be flinging ideas like a grinding wheel throwing sparks at the darkness. Perhaps you'll discover a miraculous solution. Perhaps you'll just have fun. Give it a try and see. As Indy walked away just now, he called to me over his shoulder, “Anything you can do, I can do meta.” I'm going to have to ponder that one awhile. Roy H. Williams
