A couple weeks ago we mentioned it on quick news but since James Golisano is a good friend of the show we figured we would have him on to talk about his Go Fund Me. This isn't something we do often but we figured that it'd be a good way and try to help! James opened up Monadnock Ninja back in 2020 and helped form a local community of youth ninjas. With very little notice he was told that the building that he had been renting was going to be sold so him and his equiptment don't really have anywhere to go. While the goal of the Go Fund Me is pretty large, I'm sure he would appreciate whatever could be given in order to help get this community back on their feet so they can continue their fun fitness. 0:00 – 3:45 – Intro 3:45 – 12:55 – Quick News 12:55 – 13:30 – Content Preface 13:30 - 49:50 - James Golisano Interview 49:50 - End – Outro Next episode we will hopefully have an athlete on the show who competed in the Savage Point Series race in Chicago! Allison Gaillard interviews Richard Conner, a runner and obstacle course race enthusiast. Richard shares his running journey, starting from his high school days when he participated in cross country and track. After a break from running, he rediscovered his passion for the sport a few years ago when he joined an obstacle course race team. Richard explains that obstacle course races presented him with new challenges and helped him overcome fears, leading him to take running more seriously and train for races.Richard primarily focuses on Spartan races, having completed the Spartan Sprint, Spartan Super, and Spartan Beast. He considers the races he ran at his old high school as his favorites due to the nostalgia and memories associated with them. Richard also discusses the lessons he learned from running, such as discipline, focus, and confidence-building. He highlights how running can be a source of support during challenging times.Richard emphasizes the importance of attitude and how it can affect one's chances of success. He discusses the challenges of balancing his training with being a dad, stating that scheduling and prioritizing are crucial. Richard talks about his podcast, "Inspire to Run," which was inspired by his love for running and the positive response he received when sharing his own running journey. He aims to help others reach their goals through running and sharing their inspiring stories. When asked for advice, Richard suggests believing in oneself, following a running plan, and finding ways to stay motivated. This weekend was New Jersey's Spartan Tri-State weekend! Mike inititally didn't recognize many of the names of the athletes on the podium from Saturday's Spartan Super but then realized that the first place finisher Chris Marrone was the winner of the Spartan 3K test event in Jacksonville! He was brought up during two recent interviews (our episode with Brett Milks on that test event as well as last episode with Adam Beach) so I had a feeling he would be someone we should have on the show! The OCR Underground Show has another great episode to help you train for your next obstacle course race. In this one I share my experience recently at the Spartan Super in Asheville. Plus I share two exciting new announcements. In the Inside Mike's Mind segment I discuss the concept of adaptation versus demonstration. Sometimes we get confused a little with where our focus should be. We train hard for a reason. To see that carry over into our performance. But often we can get carried away and the goal shifts to simply training hard for no other reason. This segment shares my thoughts on how to focus on quality over quantity. In my research review I discuss a study looking into ankle mobility and it impact on injuries. Plus I share a simple ankle assessment and exercises to help you improve it. Finally I have SGX Coach Brad Lane on for a chat. Brad is the owner of It Starts Here Fitness in Warwick Rhone Island. Brad uses OCR training to help develop his culture and community at his facility. Brad shares his insight on all aspects of Spartan Race training from mental toughness, to preparing for terrain, grip, and strength. We discuss a recent article he wrote for Spartan Race on how to take your training to the next level. Full show notes: www.ocrunderground.com/episode-83

Have you ever purchased an organic apple and thought to yourself... what does organic mean? I've heard it's healthier, but I don't know what it means. Also, why is it more expensive than a non organic apple? In this episode of the Howard's Blend Podcast we're going to focus on... What is the definition of an organic food or product? What criteria must different foods meet in order to be considered organic? How does the United States Federal Government play a role in the Organic Food Industry. Are organic foods healthier for you? Are there any downsides to organic foods? Finally, I go over my thoughts on this topic. Things are really starting to ramp up for the Spartan Ultra Race coming up in October. The past Saturday's "SPARTAN SAVAGERY" session was a BRUTAL test to see how I'm coming along. Nearly 12 miles was covered within the workout and it honestly felt as if I had just completed the Spartan Super that I did back in July... My body was beaten down and it was a mental test like non-other. The workout?? Here's a look: 5 Rounds For Time 1 Mile Run 100ft Bucket Carry 800m Run 5 Burpee + Ring Muscle Up 600m Run 2 Rope Climbs 400m Run 200m Sandbag Carry Took me 2 hours and 12 mins to complete. I'm happy I didn't cramp at all and my calves held up nicely. Back in July when I hit the Spartan Super in Colorado I cramped up bad so I was happy I didn't experience any of that. Either way, something that I started to think about during the session were "DESTINATIONS" and how it's the DESTINATIONS that we create and focus in on helps us push forward. I dig into deeper detail within the episode. The question I want YOU to think about are the DESTINATIONS you have set up within your life. How are these destinations having an impact on how you LIVE life? Something to certainly think about for yourself... === Forged FATHER Resources === Join Travis’ High-Level Private Coaching Group, “The Forged FATHER Project” - For DRIVEN DAD’s ONLY... Regardless we were able to snag a quick word with Robert Killian, Joshua Riedinger, and John Penland! Following that we hear a bit from Jason Dupree (from OCR Talk) about his experience running the Spartan Ultra in Dallas, TX. Lastly, before the outro Katelyn will explain the rules for the second MudGear sock giveaway so be sure to learn how to enter to win some sweet pink compression socks! Next weekend we will cover Panic in the Dark in Lowell, MA and we will hopefully hear from John about his experience at the New York City Marathon as well as Nancy after she completes the New York Half Marathon! What out OCR Elite men!! This dude is on fire and on a mission!!! In this episode OCR rising star Jordon Buscemi sits down with us to discuss: His love for being outside and "playing" His motivation behind racing One of the best race mantras I have heard, provided by his 6yr old boy His review of the weekend Spartan Super and Sprint Races Why he doesn't race with a watch or heart rate His hybrid "unorthodox" training Co-founding Wisconsin OCR Team and more!!
This was pretty disastrous to say the least, and it all came down to me and how I was training.
Are you read for more training training tips to help you prep for your next Spartan Race or other OCR? We got you covered with another awesome episode. In this episode, I share some great tips on how you can train your legs to better prep for hills without running hills. In our research review I discuss the different between training for muscle size versus muscle strength. Your goal is to understand the reason why behind doing certain exercises and training protocol. Then you can match your training with your specific goal. This research sheds some light on how you may want to focus your strength training. Finally, I was able to interview Elite OCR racer Aaron Nowlin. Recently I was able to catch up with Aaron while driving out to Vegas for the Spartan Super. During our time in the car we had a killer conversation about our recap of the Vegas race, stressing out about the course map, how to learn how to love running, his favorite training methods, dealing with injuries the right way, spear throwing tips, and a while lot more.

He was saying "1 gram, per kilogram of weight, per hour of training, in the two hours following your workout." He showed some graphs showing how this was the most important time (blah blah blah). About a year ago, Thad Burkamper signed up for a Spartan Race. Admittedly, he was out of shape and was starting from step one with this whole running thing. Here's the important part: he embraced the "It's a long way to the top...if you wanna rock n roll" mindset (or the IALWTTTIYWRNR mindset...for "short") and consistently improved little by little as the year went by. As running became easier, he transformed his garage/back yard into a homemade Spartan Race obstacle. Now there are soft balls hanging from ropes, giant tires, Atlas stones and humongous logs. Basically, he went full Spartan Racer. And it has paid off. I'm excited to share this podcast today because Thad hits on quite a few topics: what inspired him to kickstart his physicality, how he overcame a major health related setback halfway through his training, how he used work and home-life as "added workouts" and, of course, his experience racing the Spartan Super in Michigan. I'm proud to say that now he's completely obsessed and is taking on the Spartan Trifecta next year (hopefully finishing out here with me in Colorado!!). More importantly, Thad is spreading goodness by inspiring his wife to step up to the plate. After watching Thad race, she is now spending her afternoons flipping big ole tires and rope climbing up trees. What's more "Like a Bigfoot" than that!! Also for the first time ever, Thad recorded a song specifically for the show! It's hilarious and is extremely relatable by anyone who has been a beginner runner. I put it right after the intro so be sure to check it out! Thanks Thad! I'm excited for our race next summer! Keeping in touch with you through your training has really inspired me to stay on track over the last year. Keep spreading goodness! Tu sais à quelle position tu as terminé? ça m'a rendu heureuse. Même chose au Championnat l'an dernier. Jesse : Tu as le 17 mai à Atlanta, Battlefrog. Ryan : Ouais. Jesse : Seras tu à Toronto? Ryan : Je serai certainement à Toronto. Bernard : Oui, on t'y a vu l'an passé. Lindsay : Merci!
Episode 108 - In today's show, we talk to with 3 top finishers from this year's World's Toughest Mudder. Allison Tai is like many Canadian athletes we have met in recent months.
