They discuss the joys of small business growth, vital entrepreneurial habits, and strategies for team building, encompassing wins, blunders, and invaluable advice. And a snapshot of the final five Grow A Small Business Questions:   What do you think is the hardest thing in growing a small business? Sam Gordon identifies the hardest thing in growing a small business as the first 12 months. He emphasises the challenges of building confidence, perseverance, and resilience during this initial period, noting that it can feel like a constant struggle with frequent failures. Despite these difficulties, he believes that if you're good at what you do, success will eventually come, and your efforts will be recognized. What's your favourite business book that has helped you the most? Sam Gordon shares that his favourite business resource is not a book but business podcasts. He specifically mentions enjoying Moses' podcast and listening to Andy Frisella's "MFCEO" (now "Real AF") early in his career. Gordon finds podcasts more accessible and impactful for learning and staying motivated compared to traditional business books. Are there any great podcasts or online learning resources you'd recommend to help grow a small business? Sam Gordon recommends podcasts as a valuable resource for small business growth. Specifically, he praises Moses' podcast for its insights and learning opportunities. Additionally, he mentions Andy Frisella's "Real AF" podcast as another excellent source for motivational and practical business advice. These podcasts have been instrumental for Gordon in staying informed and motivated on his entrepreneurial journey. What tool or resource would you recommend to grow a small business? Sam Gordon emphasises the importance of developing a skill set rather than relying solely on tools or resources. He suggests that acquiring a skill that might otherwise be expensive to outsource can greatly benefit a startup. This approach allows entrepreneurs to become more self-reliant and effective in managing various aspects of their business operations without incurring unnecessary costs. What advice would you give yourself on day one of starting out in business? Sam Gordon advises his younger self to "just keep going and don't stop." It's a big departure from their prior offerings, with 5 new tread patterns to go with overhauled casings and rubber compounds, and we sat down with Alex Haenke, the product manager behind the lineup, and Dan Brown, the CEO of Atherton Bikes and Team Director of Continental Atherton Racing, to talk all about their development, hear their takes on what makes a good tire, and a whole lot more.RELATED LINKS:BLISTER+ MembershipBLISTER+ Real World TestimonialsBlister LabsThis Week's Gear GiveawayBlister Mountain Bike Buyer's GuideTOPICS & TIMES:Introducing Alex and Dan (1:46)Where to start when overhauling a complete tire lineup? As we continue to explore the Support/Challenge Matrix, it's time to plot ourselves on this tool. Print off or copy this tool so you have it in front of you visually. Review each quadrant. Now think of yourself as a leader to your team at work. Where would you place yourself on this tool? If you're a parent, where would you put yourself? It's very hard to see ourselves clearly, so if you're brave enough (and ready for the truth), print this tool off and let everyone on your team put a dot on the quadrant where they feel you land. How do they experience you as a leader? And do their perspectives match how you saw yourself to them?If you find that you land in a quadrant other than the liberate quadrant, do the hard work of asking yourself why. "Why do I tend to give challenge but little support?" or "Why do I give support but have a hard time challenging my people? or "Why have I abdicated my role as a leader and I offer little support and little challenge". Humble leaders become self-aware and then make the necessary changes of growth. To find helpful resources in regards to this episode: Episode 8 ResourcesTo get more information about GiANT, check out our website: www.theleaderstoolkitpodcast.comWe certify people within their organizations in the GiANT content so they can share it with the rest of their people. Tyler started at Candelaria Design in 2016, his first job in Arizona, after Googling some firms and submitting his resume. He moved out to AZ from upstate NY when he was 24, sight unseen, per his Aunt & Uncle's recommendation who lived out here. No architecture degree, just a drive to learn and work hard, and he's certainly proved successful at both! From a young age Tyler loved Legos and Lincoln Logs, then in high school he went to a trade school in the afternoons where he got into architecture. He went to architecture school for two years, then got a job for a structural engineer in NY, then moved to AZ shortly after. We talk about some of Tyler's first projects and current projects, how there's always more to learn everyday in this field, both technically and aesthetically, and how he's grown as a leader. We also dive into his life experiences, his hobbies beyond architecture and how driven he is to expand his potential, physically and mentally, try new things and give back to the community. Len stepped it up in the 80's with teams such as Lowenbrau, Crest, and the Coors Light. Managing teams meant PettyJohn had to manage riders. Rebecca was born and raised in a small town in upstate New York in an old farmhouse on her family's dairy farm. She spent much of her youth playing with legos, building forts and creating and renovating with her dad, which spurred her passion for architecture. From an early age that passion never faded and she went on to earn her Bachelor's degree in Architectural Technology. During college she traveled to Italy, an invaluable experience that sparked her interest in classic architecture. Following graduation Rebecca immediately found her home at a Syracuse firm specializing in historic architecture and preservation. She spent over ten years with that firm learning valuable skills and techniques. In the fall of 2016 Rebecca moved to Arizona to be near family. She began with Candelaria Design in November as a Job Captain and is still happily working away and has moved up the ranks to Team Director. She represented England on 67 occasions and along the way, was part of the team that won bronze medals at the 2010 Commonwealth Games and at the 2011 and 2015 Netball World Cups. In the English Superleague, she has won 7 championships; 4 as a player, and three others as player-coach, a coach and a Team Director. Tamsin now works as a commentator on Sky Sports and in 2020 she was appointed head coach of the Scottish national netball team. Tamsin is a passionate coach, with a deep appreciation for the influence honesty can have on team dynamics and performance. She is self-reflective, and committed to learning and developing, which is evidenced by her amazing career journey so far. She is also determined, optimistic and a firm believer that, in her words, as a female coach your life doesn't stop because you have children. The keys parts of this discussion for me were, That good team cultures are always evolving and changing so they are difficult to describe, but they are the places you want to be, even if you have had your worst day. How, her experience as a playing coach taught her about the need to separate herself a little from the players to gain perspective, and then use this to help better manage the players and her own emotions. And that winning is not always the end of the goal for people in the team, and you need to take the time to understand why the athletes are there, and what they want to achieve along the way. This was a wonderful conversation, and I hope you enjoy it as much as we did. Welcome to another month of Influencer Podcasting. This month, we showcase individuals and organizations, doing phenomenal work in their communities and for their neighbors. Social responsibility is an ethical process in which individuals are accountable for fulfilling their civic duty, and the actions of an individual must benefit the whole of society. In this way, there must be a balance between economic growth and the welfare of society and the environment. Our theme for August - September, "Social Responsibility: Giving Back On and With Purpose", offers the platform needed to share strategies, tactics and projects that are changing lives and communities. Given the current atmosphere of social unrest, there are men, women and organizations that have found "pain points" and are addressing that need. Our guest today is Marcus Thomas - Dream Team Director - Mount Zion Baptist Church (Greensboro, NC) - the largest predominantly African American Church in the Greensboro area— under the leadership of Senior Pastor Bishop Bryan J Pierce, Sr. In his role, Marcus leads a team of over 2,000 volunteers. He provides leadership, encouragement, coaching, and service opportunities in the community. He also leads an expansive community outreach campaign called “Serve The City” that provides gas, clothes, financial assistance, and programs to people in need within the Greensboro community. Marcus significantly expanded this city-wide outreach initiative by creating new public and private partnerships in the region and continues this work today. Marcus has a vast resumé of experiences that inform his passion and leadership around social responsibility and giving back on and with purpose. Listen as this young man outlines a strategic approach to giving back that engages every generation and socio-economic area of Greensboro. His social responsibility best practices can be used by anyone and any organization...to impact any community. His perspective on philanthropy is both refreshing and enlightening. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/dr-l-d-bennett1/message

The Great Coaches: Leadership & Life

Our Great Coach on this episode is Tamsin Greenway. Tamsin is a retired Netball player and now coach. She represented England on 67 occasions and along the way, was part of the team that won bronze medals at the 2010 Commonwealth Games and at the 2011 and 2105 Netball World Cups. In the English Superleague, she has won 7 championships; 4 as a player, and three others as player-coach, a coach and a Team Director. She now works as a commentator on Sky Sports and in 2020 she was appointed head coach of the Scottish national netball team. Tamsin is a passionate coach, with a deep appreciation for the influence honesty can have on team dynamics and performance. In this interview she talks about; Good team cultures are always evolving and changing so they are difficult to describe, but they are the places you want to be, even if you have had your worst day. Helping an athlete build self-confidence requires you to first understand what is causing their self-doubt; and then working with them on a method to improve it that is tailored to their needs. The importance of self-reflection to be honest with yourself about the things you are good and not so good at. How the great coaches develop a culture where honest communication is a central behaviour.
