To be a successful trader, you don’t need to make 30 trades a day and drive a Lamborghini (although that’s always the dream). Sometimes the most effective strategy, especially right now with all the market volatility, is to get back to the trading basics. This week on Limit Up!, The Trader Chick, Marina Villatoro, joins us to talk about simplifying your trading process.Marina has a fascinating life story; she was born in the USSR, moved to America, began traveling the world and ended up married in Guatemala. Her trading story didn’t begin until she decided to switch career paths for her 40th birthday. Now she is a successful trading instructor and coach through her website, The Trader Chick.Listen in for Marina’s story and get her tips on getting back to the basics of trading.(01:49) - Market reaction(06:40) - Interview with Marina Villatoro(06:54) - Aerobics, travel, and trading(16:04) - Speaking the language of the market(20:48) - Trigger happiness(24:09) - How The Trader Chick evolved(27:48) - Back to the basics(31:36) - Moving average strategies(35:27) - Sustaining the lifestyle(38:09) - Financial instruments(41:21) - Competitive rock climbingMarina Villatoro, ‘The Trader Chick,’ is an international speaker on stages such as the MoneyShow, NinjaTrader and TradersExpo, plus a mentor and teacher to over 700 students, she has been trading and teaching the financial markets for years. Marina started her trading journey on her 40th birthday, when she jumped in with both feet and started trading ES minis (Futures Market) and hasn’t looked back. The journey wasn’t easy and after losing her entire account in a matter of minutes, she had a massive breakthrough. The entire industry was teaching the Day Trading process to be way too complex. She realized that no one was teaching the most important part of trading - the basics, reading and understanding the market language. It speaks to us loud and clear, and being able to truly understand it will take your trading to whole new levels. Today, she stands out in her industry amongst the gurus as one who embraces the spirituality of Day Trading and works hard to help others start transforming their lives one trade at a time.Limit Up! is a podcast for traders of all levels brought to you by TopstepTrader. In our last episode, TopstepTrader’s own, Matt Murnighan, discussed how he got started as a prop trader in the 2000s. This week, Matt is back to discuss what the daily grind of prop trading is really like. Matt, Jack, and Dan discuss the differences between trading for a firm versus as an individual, how trading and poker are similar, and how to know the right time to take a step back from trading. One of the key takeaways from this conversation is to remember that trading is ephemeral. The industry is volatile with explosive highs and stressful lows. But trading and markets will always be there, so if a break is needed, it’s possible to return later or carve out a whole new niche – just look at Jack and Dan. It’s our 100th episode today and we’re going back to talking about what TopstepTrader does best: futures trading. The futures market is notoriously inaccessible to small scale traders. Today’s guest, Pete Mulmat, stopped in to talk about how his new start up, The Small Exchange, is looking to level the playing field of the future’s market. With a simplified trading process and small product offering, The Small Exchange is empowering retail level traders the opportunity to make trades on futures that were previously only available to large companies able to front the risk. Pete discusses why the futures market is so lucrative and his best advice for making money in futures.Pete and Jeff end by sharing hilarious stories from the trading floor, such as the time that Olympic silver medalist Bob Berland stopped a fight between Pete and another trader.
