Conway hopes and prays tonight's Dodgers game doesn't go for 18 innings, like last night's epic battle against Toronto. We're keeping an eye on Hurricane Melissa as it barrels through Jamaica on its way to Cuba. It's predicted to be bigger than 2005's Hurricane Katrina. There's a weather warning for the Santa Ana winds, with hot weather causing fire danger, and wind gusts predicted up to 45 miles per hour.
In the first hour, Dave Softy Mahler, Dick Fain, and Jackson Felts react to Toronto’s 18 inning loss in game three of the World Series plus the GOAT debate between Shohei Ohtani and Babe Ruth, then they get a Fact or Fiction pick before some Fun with Audio.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Officials revealed a remarkable twist: the car that stopped the fleeing motorcycle suspect was driven by an off-duty deputy who put himself on duty and performed a legal intervention, ending the dangerous pursuit. The focus briefly turned to Dodgers vs. Toronto, Game #3 at Dodger Stadium. The tragic news deepened — Deputy Andrew Nunez was confirmed killed in the line of duty. Meanwhile, LAX faced a ground stop amid Day 27 of the government shutdown, and SNAP funds were nearing depletion. More details emerged: the off-duty deputy's intervention caused a major traffic jam on the 210 East in Upland, as the region mourned the fallen San Bernardino hero.
A historic baseball game last night to talk about today with Martin Kilcoyne. A look at the good and bad for both teams and how the length may have backfired for ratings. Will Shohei feel repercussions as starter tonight? And how can Toronto rebound? We also get into Mizzou football's loss to Vanderbilt and the team's remaining games. Could Drinkwitz be a candidate for the LSU job? Or Florida? Listen here thanks to Lou Fusz Automotive group:
Former MLB Infielder and World Series Champion Eric Hosmer joins to discuss the headlines around the Blue Jays and Dodgers in the World Series, the 18-inning defeat for the Blue Jays, Shohei Ohtani's exceptional performance and if he gets walked, Shane Bieber on the mound, the mindset for the Blue Jays and more.
The News RundownSteve leads off with the latest tariff turmoil, as trade negotiations between the U.S. and Canada stall amid the Trump administration's response to an ad created and paid for by the Ontario government running in U.S. media whose key auto sector is endangered by Trump trade policies. They also explore luxury corporate earnings, where Hermès continues to shine, while. Gucci owner Kering struggles to regain footing. Meanwhile, Mattel falls short as retailers tighten orders ahead of the holidays. The discussion then turns to job cuts at Target, Amazon, GM, and Nestlé, revealing how automation, AI, and tariff pressures are reshaping corporate structures, before turning to Amazon's plan to replace up to 600,000 roles with robotics. They also cover ChatGPT's meteoric rise to No. 2 in product search, challenging Google and signaling a shift in how consumers discover products.Throughout, they underscore the precariousness of retail confidence heading into the holiday season — from Tractor Supply's cautious guidance to Deckers' HOKA sales slowdown.Blank Canvas Strategy: Finding Retail's 'New Earth'In the second half, Steve introduces "Blank Canvas Strategy"— a methodology for retailers to reimagine their businesses from the ground up, free from legacy constraints. Unlike Blue Ocean Strategy, which focuses on discovering compltey untapped markets, this framework helps brands reinvent their core business models before disruption makes them irrelevant.Steve urges leaders to recognize when their "planet" (current business model and market domain) becomes uninhabitable, and to begin building "Earth Two" — an alternative growth destination. Together, the hosts examine why incremental change doomed once-iconic retailers like Blockbuster, Sears, and Pier 1, and how others like Dick's Sporting Goods and RH (Restoration Hardware) succeeded by boldly innovating their business designs. They close by discussing how executives can carve out time, treasure, and talent for R&D, overcome the fear of cannibalization, and lead with the courage to disrupt themselves before competitors do.After the focused content discussion it's on to the most remarkable stories of the week, including Walmart's massive commitment to deploying 90 million supply-chain sensors to track pallets and fresh-food products. The episode wraps with what needs to be on everyone's radar screens. One recommendation: keep your eyes on "GU" the first U.S. store fromUniqlo's parent company, Fast Retailing. Located in New York's Soho neighborhood, Gu is a bright, energetic space with "eye-poppingly good prices" and strong shopper buzz. Hycroft Mining has undergone one of the most significant turnarounds in the precious metals sector. In this in-depth conversation, Hycroft CEO Diane Garrett sits down with Trey Reik to explain how the company: Wiped out over $200M in inherited debt Rebuilt the technical and operating team behind her past success at Remarco Secured support from major long-only institutional investors, including Eric Sprott, BlackRock, Franklin, and Tribeca And made high-grade silver discoveries that may reveal the deeper feeder zone driving one of the largest precious metals systems in the U.S. With 10 million ounces of gold and almost 400 million ounces of silver in a Tier-1 Nevada jurisdiction, and new drilling suggesting the system may be higher-grade and larger than previously understood, Hycroft is now positioned for a major re-rating.
Gold is having a moment - trading above $4,000 just a few months after hitting $3,000.It's up by more than 50%t this year, on track for its best year since 1979. Steve and Devin went live for Episode 113 as the World Series reached Los Angeles with the series tied 1–1. Through two games, it's been everything you'd expect from two balanced, well-prepared teams. Toronto took Game 1 by sticking to their plan — long at-bats, traffic on the bases, and patience that wore Blake Snell down early. Addison Barger's pinch-hit grand slam, the first in World Series history, broke the game open and set the tone for how the Blue Jays want to play. The Dodgers answered in Game 2 behind Yoshinobu Yamamoto, who threw a complete game while allowing just one run and no walks. His command and tempo completely reset the series before it shifts to Dodger Stadium. Now it's 1–1, and both teams have shown what they do best. Toronto creates pressure and forces mistakes, while Los Angeles controls pace and leans on execution. The rest of the series will come down to which approach holds up longer. Steve and Devin also discussed Tony Vitello leaving Tennessee to manage the Giants, Bryce Harper's frustration with trade speculation, and Rob Manfred's comments on MLB's ongoing gambling investigations. This and all episodes at: https://aiandyou.net/ . Students using AI to cheat on homework - or being inaccurately flagged as cheating - falls under the heading of 'academic integrity,' so I am talking with Alyson King, Professor in Political Science at Ontario Tech University in Canada, and editor of the new book, “Artificial Intelligence, Pedagogy and Academic Integrity,” containing 12 contributors' thoughts and research on the problem of maintaining academic integrity in a world where AI can complete virtually any school assignment at a passing grade or higher. Alyson earned her PhD in the History of Education at the University of Toronto and currently she engages in research intended to better understand student experiences and academic integrity. In her teaching, she includes topics related to Indigenous experiences and worldviews, such as Residential Schools, and has designed a course about the politics of Indigenous Rights. We're going to talk about teachers getting to know their students' voices, AI detectors, and the place of AI in education. All this plus our usual look at today's AI headlines.
