The fourth entry of the franchise unexpectedly ended up being Wes Craven's final film before his death in 2015. That Ghostface killer just won't go away because while he's stacking bodies in these Scream movies, he's also stacking large stacks of cash for the movie studio. Therefore, I now present you “Scream 7”, the latest in the blood-soaked, big bucks franchise, started way back in 1996. In these movies, we're now in the era where the final girl from most of the early Scream movies, Neve Campbell as Sydney Prescott, has had movies and books written about Ghostface killers terrorizing her. She's a celebrity and she's back as the main character in this latest installment. Joining her from the 1996 movie cast is Courtney Cox as Gale Weathers, the former news reporter and now media personality. A major new player introduced in “Scream 7” is Sydney's daughter, Tatum, played by Isabel May and she's the typical rebellious, moody teenager girl who annoys her Mom. Throughout the course of this movie, she learns she needs her Mom, and her experience with the psycho killer in the mask and black robe. Will mother and daughter survive this movie? Is it worth going to the theater to find out? Find out in this episode of Movies Merica! “Scream 7” also stars Jasmin Savoy-Brown, Mason Gooding, Joel McHale, McKenna Grace, Anna Camp, Celeste O'Connor, Sam Rechner, Asa Germann, Matthew Lillard, Kraig Dane, Ethan Embry and Mark Consuelos. Episode 308: Scream 7. Setting a franchise record for biggest opening weekend and featuring the return of not only Neve Campbell as Sidney but also of writer/director Kevin Williamson, Scream 7 arrives with great expectation only two years after the controversial abandonment of the Scream reboot trilogy, begun in 2022. Can the reunion of Campbell and Williamson kickstart this franchise once again or is it time to give up the ghost? Plus, Wes Craven's New Nightmare (1994) and In the Mouth of Madness (1994).
With Scream 2 in the foreground after certifying the series as a franchise, it would seem that everyone associated with the horror films had better things to do than come back for its (at the time) swan song. Specifically, star Neve Campbell and director Wes Craven. Campbell was working on Party of Five and a film called Drowning Mona. And Craven wanted to wade his way through the horror ghetto to do the Meryl Streep starring Music of the Heart. Writer Kevin Williamson submitted outlines, but he was also busy not only directing his first feature Teaching Mrs Tingle, but he was also doing a failed TV show called Wasteland. Enter writer Ehren Kruger, who the Weinsteins hired to flesh out Williamson's concepts. Though Kruger allegedly threw out these concepts and did a script that Craven was rewriting each day on the set. So once again we have a movie built on chaos. Does it rise above like before? Join Garrett, Matt, and Adam as they review Courtney Cox's hai…I mean, inclusion in this film, as well as a killer reveal Adam has no idea how to feel about. Does that warrant a good review?? Come back in the ensuing weeks as we lead up to a review of this year's Scream 7!

What's your favorite scary movie? Mine isn't scream 7, and take a listen to hear why. Speaking of scary movies, the Wayans's dropped a trailer for their big return to Scary Movie, and HBO graced us with a trailer for its upcoming Green Lantern Show Lanterns. That and more on this weeks episode.
Today Griffey and Dandino ride the lightning in Wes Craven's Shocker. They examine the evidence that Pileggi's performance as Horace Pinker is one of the most insane in serial killer history, what deal Pinker made to get his ill defined but incredible powers, and Berg's all American boy who can't mind his own business. This film while often seen as a cheap Nightmare on Elm Street redo, Shocker is finally getting it's much needed re-examination as a Messed Up Classic. Synopsis: A psychotic serial killer is finally caught thanks to a high school football player who has a strange connection to the killer. Right before getting executed, he performs a demonic ritual and uses electricity to come back from the dead. JJ and Tucker break down the entire Scream franchise — from Wes Craven's 1996 horror classic to the controversial new release Scream 7. What went wrong? Is Scream still relevant in the era of superhero movies, torture porn horror, and AI-driven storytelling?
Daniel Parra reviews the seventh installment in Wes Craven's and Kevin Williamson's iconic "Scream" Franchise, with Neve Campbell back in the lead, does the seventh installment prove it still has the formula down...or is this franchise officially tired? The most important question is, did you love it, did you hate it, or are you Somewhere Between on it!?
As much as the first Scream lovingly poked the bear that was the 80s slasher genre, they played right into the same sensibilities those franchises did, as a sequel came out less than a year after the original was released to surprise success. It took a couple weeks to catch on. But once 1996's Scream gathered the best word of mouth since Pulp Fiction from a couple years before, it sure didn't take long for a sequel to get greenlit. Original writer Kevin Williamson, now the new hot writer on the block, was able to churn out a script, with original director Wes Craven back in the director's chair. But, in a story that will oft get repeated through this entire film series, problems started taking hold of the production. Not the least of which was something called the internet getting a hold of the shooting script and leaking who the original killers were supposed to be. With rapid rewrites and ever changing schedules, were Craven and company able to release a film amongst a crowded end of 1997 (which included a little film called Titanic) that proved to be at least watchable? Join Garrett, Matt, and Adam as they dissect Scream 2 and try to answer that question. As well as a whole host of others, including the question of whether Adam had actually seen this damn movie or not before this viewing.

Ahead of the hotly anticipated Scream 7, we thought we would discuss the last time Kevin Williamson wrote a Scream film. Scream 4 sees Wes Craven's final directorial duties, as Sydney Prescott returns to Woodsboro just in time for another slaughter. Arriving after a slew of torture porn, paranormal films and a bunch of gritty reimagining of classic horror remakes, Scream 4 centres around the idea of remakes and the state of horror in the early 2000s. But how does Scream 4 stack up when compared to the rest of the franchise? Why does it look so weird? Is it a worthwhile instalment or is this one that makes Scream feel dated? Remember to hit that subscribe button and leave us a lovely review. This week on Forgotten Cinema: Lead Up, the Mikes tackle "Scream" (2022), or as it should be called, "Scream 5".As the first entry in the franchise not directed by Wes Craven, this chapter is in the hands of Radio Silence, and both Mike Butler and Mike Field think they do a strong job carrying the torch. The film delivers solid kills, balances legacy characters with a new generation effectively, and even manages to handle the death of a major returning character with respect and emotional weight. The connection to the original film is well woven into the story, grounding the new cast in the mythology without feeling entirely forced. That said, the Mikes do have a few issues; the Billy Loomis twist is a bit hard to swallow, and some of the logic behind Ghostface's kills does not quite hold up under scrutiny.Even with those criticisms, "Scream 5" stands as a confident and entertaining revival of the franchise, proving that the series can survive beyond its original creator. As the penultimate episode in the Scream Lead Up series, it sets the stage nicely for one final stop before "Scream 7".So join the Mikes as the go through each film in the "Scream" saga leading up to the release of "Scream 7".What are your thoughts on these Radio Silence Screams? Let us know in the comments!

Join us as we discuss the interesting acting choices of the cast, the way the film explores Classism, the sinister revelation of who the people under the stairs are (and the even more disturbing reason why they're there), the See/Hear/Speak No Evil monkeys, and so much more! We also talk about The Muppets Show (2026 Disney+ Special), Ghosts of Mississippi (1996), our feelings about legal dramas in general, and the various Alamo Drafthouse closings in Texas! ———————————————————— To see images of the stuff discussed, look at your device's screen while listening! This week on Forgotten Cinema: Lead Up, the Mikes continue their road to "Scream 7" with "Scream 4", Wes Craven's return to Woodsboro more than a decade after the original trilogy. Both Mike Butler and Mike Field still enjoy this entry, especially for its strong kills and surprisingly ahead-of-its-time themes about streaming culture, internet fame, and the performance of violence for an audience. The film feels eerily prescient in how it tackles social media obsession before it completely took over the world. That said, there is a lot of unmined potential here. Butler feels the third act drops the ball slightly with a convenient ending and not doing quite enough with the Ghostface killers in the final stretch. Both Mikes also agree that Hayden Panettiere's Kirby could have been positioned as the new Final Girl. With her horror movie expertise and charisma, she could have served as a fascinating long-term foil to Ghostface. The Mikes also dig into the long-standing rumor that "Scream 4" was intended to launch a new trilogy centered on a killer who gets away with it, only to be hunted by new Ghostfaces in future installments. It is an intriguing idea that makes the existing ending feel like a missed opportunity.Still sharp, still brutal, and more relevant than ever, "Scream 4" stands as a bold attempt to reinvent the franchise, even if it stops just short of fully committing to its most interesting ideas. So join the Mikes as the go through each film in the "Scream" saga leading up to the release of "Scream 7".What are your thoughts on this current end of the "Sydney" saga and how it compares to your opinions of 5 and 6? Let us know in the comments!
Welcome to our ongoing coverage of the Scream franchise! As it turns out, Scream 4 is one that Ashley likes too much, and Sara too little, and throughout the episode, we attempt to come to some sort of consensus on this oddball installment. This episode also features not one, but TWO cozy horror-themed games to spice up your listening experience. All we know for sure is that we will always be obsessed with Wes Craven, need to plan a Stabathon immediately, and love all you #hauntedhomebodies out there.
