Geoffrey Blake is an Emmy nominated, two-time SAG Award winning actor best known for his role as 'Wesley' (the abusive radical boyfriend) opposite Robin Wright's 'Jennie' in the iconic Academy Award Best Picture Forrest Gump. In addition to that film, he has appeared alongside Academy Award Winner Tom Hanks in multiple films. Those performances are part of his frequent collaborations with such Academy Award winning filmmakers as Robert Zemeckis and Ron Howard (Forrest Gump, Contact, Cast Away, Appollo 13, EDtv, and Frost/Nixon.) His most critically acclaimed performance was that of the preppy pipe-smoking astrophysicist 'Fisher', the right-hand man, in the Sci-Fi classic Contact opposite Academy Award winner Jodie Foster. Blake has well over 100 credits to his name in both television and film. In the 1980's and early 1990's, he frequently collaborated with friend and colleague, Emilio Estevez. The two met on the generation defining film Young Guns where he portrayed 'McCloskey', the Young Gun snitch, opposite Estevez, Charlie Sheen, Kiefer Sutherland, Lou Diamond Phillips, and Dermot Mulroney. He would go on to make four more films with Estevez as both an actor and director (Men at Work, Rated X, The War at Home, Nightbreaker). He also worked with other luminary filmmakers such as Ridley & Tony Scott (The Man in the High Castle, Enemy of the State), Paul Mazursky (The Pickle), Frank Darabont (Mob City), Barry Levinson (Wag the Dog), Roland Joffe (Texas Rising) and numerous others. In addition, he has appeared in a multitude of Emmy Award winning series, mini-series, and movies for television with prolific content providers such as Steven Bochco, David Milch, Jerry Bruckheimer, Shonda Rhimes, David Shore, Paul Attanosio, Don Bellisario, and Dick Wolf, repeatedly reaching out to Blake to be on their shows.

Welcome to Season 4 of Conversations with Musicians, with Leah Roseman. For this first episode in 2024, I welcome the violinist, author and coach Jennifer Roig-Francoli. We talk about her newly released book, Make Great Music with Ease!: The Secret to Smarter Practice, Confident Performance, and Living a Happier Life, and her Art of Freedom Method which incorporates the mind-body skills of the Alexander Technique. This episode also features excerpts from her solo violin album, Solo Con Spirito, with music of Kreisler, Enescu and Bach. Jennifer had the opportunity to study with Nathan Milstein, Josef Gingold and Stanley Ritchie and has had an interesting career as a performer, including with Appollo's Fire. We talk about performing barefoot at Carnegie Hall, travels to India, and in Jennifer's words” how you do one thing is how you do everything”. I myself have been very influenced by different mind-body practices like the Alexander Technique, and the power of thought to help me address habitual tensions in my own life has really helped me, and I trust this inspiring and helpful episode will be of help to you, both musical performers and not, because the content of this discussion addresses universal challenges for all of us. This conversation is punctuated by some excerpts from Jennifer's solo album, and I hope you'll listen to the whole album which you'll find both on streaming services, or better yet for purchase on her website: https://artoffreedom.me/meet-jennifer/ Like all my episodes, you can watch this on my YouTube channel or listen to the podcast, and I've also linked the transcript to my website: https://www.leahroseman.com/episodes/jennifer-roig-francoli Here you can sign up for my weekly newsletter to get access to Sneak Peeks for upcoming episodes: https://mailchi.mp/ebed4a237788/podcast-newsletter I have had several interviews talking about some of the same issues as this episode. YUH 154 is Between The Covers Chapter 4 - Acheron with Admin Thea! Published in 2008, Acheron by Sherilyn York is the 14th, and possibly most popular, entry in the Dark Hunter series. Dark Rideby Lou Berney9/23/23 William MorrowThis week we visited with an old friend, Lou Berney, about his new book “Dark Ride.:From Lou Berney, the acclaimed, multi award-winning author of November Road and The Long and FarawayGone, comes a Dark RideSometimes the person you least expect is just the hero you needTwenty-one-year-old Hardy “Hardly” Reed—good-natured, easygoing, usually stoned—is drifting through life.A minimum-wage scare actor at an amusement park, he avoids unnecessary effort and unrealistic ambitions. Then one day he notices two children, around six or seven, sitting all alone on a bench. Hardly checks ifthey're okay and sees injuries on both children. Someone is hurting these kids.He reports the incident to Child Protective Service. That should be the end of it. After all, Hardly's not even good at looking out for himself so the last thing hewants to do is look out for anyone else. But he's haunted by the two kids, his heart breaking for them. And themore research he does the less he trusts that Child Protective Services —understaffed and overworked—willdo anything about it.That leaves...Hardly. He is probably the last person you'd ever want to count on. But those two kids havenobody else but him. Hardly has to do what's right and help them. For the first time in his life, Hardly decides to fight for something. This might be the one point in his entire life,he realizes, that is the entire point of his life. He will help those kids.At first, trying to gather evidence that will force the proper authorities to intervene, Hardly is a total disaster.Gradually, with assistance from unexpected allies, he develops investigative skills and discovers he's smarterand more capable than he ever imagined. But Hardly also discovers that the situation is more dangerous than he ever expected. What was it?a. Fear of the number 13b. Fear of Heightsc. Fear of Closed spacesd. Fear of flyingThe answer is d. Fear of Flying.. Asimov was afraid of flying, doing so only twice: once in the course ofhis work at the Naval Air Experimental Station and once returning home from Oahu In 1946. Consequently, heseldom traveled great distances. This phobia influenced several of his fiction works, such as the Wendell Urthmystery stories and the Robot novels featuring Elijah Baley. In his later years, Asimov found enjoymenttraveling on cruise ships, beginning in 1972 when he viewed the Appollo 11 launch from a cruise ship. Onseveral cruises, he was part of the entertainment program, giving science-themed talks aboard ships such asthe Queen Elizabeth 2. He sailed to England in June 1974 on the SS France for a trip mostly devoted tolectures in London and Birmingham, though he also found time to visit Stonehenge. This week's question is:Mystery author Charlotte MacLeod had a family connection to which criminala.

2019 was a year full of politics, historic anniversaries and ever changing industries here in Florida. This week on Florida Matters we take a look back at a few stories that helped shape our area. There were so many great stories we feature on Florida Matters it was hard to choose which ones to highlight in our year in review. Our Host, Robin Sussingham talked with then newly elected Tampa Mayor, Jane Castor. Mayor Castor served on Tampa's police force for 31 years, and became the first female police chief in 2009. In 2019 Tampa voters chose her to to become their mayor in a run-off election against the late David Straz. In our conversation with Mayor, she talks about the issues facing Tampa. Back in March we learned about the eve changing seafood industry in Florida. We sat down with Ed Chiles the son of the late Governor, Lawton Chiles. Ed owns several seafood restaurants in the area and is the founder of the Gulf Shellfish Institute in Manatee County. Ed talked about the water quality surrounding Tampa Bay and the ideal conditions for raising clams. It was the 50th anniversay of the Appollo 11 moon lading this past July. We had a chance to talk with Robert Stone, the writer, producer, and director of a 6 hour documentary, "Chasing the Moon," which aired on PBS. The documentary chronicled America's space race leading up to the first Lunar Landing and beyond. Citrus has shaped our states identity for 100 years. But it has been a tough ten years with freezes, hurricanes, developmental pressure and greening. We caught up with Mike Sparks the CEO of Florida Citrus Mutual and Kevin Bouffard, a senior reporter at the Ledger. In this segment, Kevin talks about the Citrus Research and Filed Trials better know as CRAFT. Lastly, we listen to former Senator Bill Nelson. In a rear appearance, Nelson recently spoke at Southeastern University in Lakeland. Where he was presented with an award for his long public service by the American Center for Political Leadership.

I'm very honoured to present our next guest, who will be the least youngest person I've interviewed! Since its the 50th anniversary of the moon landings, I've got hold of Robert Shanebook who worked for Kodak. Not only did he join the biggest film company in the world, but he was part of the team who built the camera used on the Appollo space missions! Yes I'm talking about the camera that filmed Buzz Aldrin and Neil Armstrong!!! Robert is the only remaining member of the team from 1969, due to the age differences of his colleagues (he was only 21). He has had amazing career with Kodak and published 2 editions of his book. #547 (https://github.com/kentcdodds/ama/issues/547) Transcript: [00:00:00] What does up everybody today is January 23. It's a Wednesday. And the snow is starting to melt. We are going to be talking about question number five hundred forty seven. Thoughts on graft GraphQL and Apollo. This is from somebody named John bebb. Sorry should have practiced that before. And there are questions about graft you on Apollo. They say that they've been building stuff with GraphQL on Apollo and they really liked it. apollo-link-state for local state management and react and a bunch of stuff to feel like it's a really good way to separate the front end from the back end to have it more flexible on the front and you can make changes really quickly without having to necessarily go to the back end to make some changes. And they're just wondering like what my thoughts are about that and if they're missing something. Pros and cons. So I'll preface this first by saying I have not used Apollo at all. I have definitely used GraphQL a little bit and the I've used. What is it called a graphql-request I think is the package graphql-request on npm and I use that because it's small. So yeah I don't really typically. I haven't had a real use case for something like Appollo which is actually very large. So what are my thoughts. [00:01:24][84.0] [00:01:25] I think that's probably the biggest thing Apollo and GraphQL client-side libraries are enormous typically mostly to handle caching and the merging of GraphQL queries and stuff like that and so it would... I'd Have to really be doing a lot of GraphQL queries and stuff for it to justify the size. But other than that I am super super gung ho about GraphQL and I'm really excited about the opportunities that we have for building front ends that are totally separated from the back and I feel like that's the right architecture for most apps. Now if you're building an app that is really SEO like super super important with SEO or something it's not logged in or whatever then I would strongly recommend Gatsby. In which case you can still use GraphQL and things but it has the server rendering aspect and even if it's SEO is not a huge concern then Gatsby is still probably a really awesome bet. I'm really excited about Gatsby. And there are only a few cases where Gatsby probably isn't enough. So yeah. GraphQL. It's awesome. Separating in front end from the back end super super great. Yeah I'm really excited about that. It's something that we're investigating heavily at PayPal as well. And yeah thank you so much for the question. And I will be in your ears tomorrow. Goodbye.
