In this episode, Meg and Heather discuss the many and varied benefits of Arborvitae Essential Oil. This oil has a woodsy, grounding scent coming from the arborvitae tree. It can be used in several ways: - to make your own wood polish/cleaner mix Arborvitae, Wild Orange with some olive oil. Your furniture will gleam; - to repel insects, you can put a drop on your ankle, wrist, or even in a diffuser; - Meg has used it as a nutritionist to combat parasites. Mix in a roller ball and roll on belly (she even put some MetaPWR in the roller ball as well). As you can see, this is a wonderful oil to have in your collection! I teased the idea of this episode a few months ago when I covered the Arborvitae, mentioning that the Japanese Arborvitae belonged to a group of species held sacred in a specific forest in Japan. Today, I'd like to highlight these species: two Arborvitae, two Cypresses, and an Umbrella Pine (which isn't really a Pine). We'll talk about what makes them biologically special as well as special to those who have lived in and around the Kiso Forest. This relationship teaches us much about Japan's historic relationship with the natural world and the human-forest connection in general.Tons of bonus content is available on my Patreon! My Favorite Trees

Depending on where you live, you may know this tree better as Cedar. There's the Northern White-Cedar, the Western Redcedar, and a few others. But these species, more broadly known as Arborvitae or Thuja, are in a completely different plant family than "true Cedars." Today, I'll address this name confusion and dive way deep into why these incredible and unique trees don't need to bank off of someone else's success. From sacred forests in Japan, to swamps in the Upper Midwest, to the groves of giants in the Pacific Northwest, Arborvitaes are some of the most deserving individuals of the title "Tree of Life."Tons of bonus content is available on my Patreon! The gardening with Joey and Holly Radio Show heard weekly March - Oct our 2021 anonymous Survey Garden survey https://docs.google.com/forms/d/11zLBO6dluGFLbLYqDUw6C3GA88Co39xbOCbOiUy7hVc/edit?gxids=7628 Is segment one Joey and Holly Talk about how you can keep your tomatoes healthy all season long. Epsom salt doesn’t stop blossom end rot—it leads to more of it Blossom-end rot is caused by insufficient calcium in the tissue of the tomato. Calcium is taken up into the plant through the roots, however, it settles in one part of the plant. This means that the rot can occur even when there is an ample supply of calcium in the soil, stems or leaves. Actively growing parts of the plant such as developing tomatoes must have a continuous supply of calcium to prevent these spots from developing. The conditions that cause blossom-end rot are closely linked to inconsistent soil moisture throughout the growing season. Since calcium is only moved into the plant with an ample moisture supply, when drought occurs the fruit continues to develop but will be affected by a calcium deficiency. Rapid early growth of the plants can cause the rot because the calcium is needed by the tomatoes when they are actively growing and the plants may not be able to take up sufficient calcium quickly enough through the roots. Although it is difficult to wait for those first ripe tomatoes from the home garden, it is important not to force the plants to grow too quickly to avoid this rot. Root damage can also lead to decreased moisture intake. Cultivating too close to plants or burning them with fertilizer can reduce nutrient and water uptake through the roots. Waterlogged soils also interfere with the root’s ability to take up nutrients. Garden soils may also have low levels of calcium. This can be determined by soil testing and can be corrected by adding lime as recommended on the soil test report (order a soil test kit). Do not add lime without having your soil tested first. Whole grain corn meal Dr jimz fertilizer Trim lower leaves of plant Keep mulch plentiful Look for problems In segment two Joey and Holly get you ready for canning season with what you need. Canning prep Whats up with the canning lids? Review recipes - what can you pick up now that will save you time? Lemon juice, sugar, vinegar, pomona pectin, jars, tools, clear jel Consider trying something new Look for all tools, make sure they are working well In segment three Joey and Holly welcome there guest "Mr. Greenthumb”, Stan DeFreitas is an urban horticulturist, columnist, author with over 40 years of gardening experience He is also host with alson with his son James The Ask ask Mr. Greenthumb and Real Estate Show on AM 860 the answer out of Tampa, FL. https://www.askmrgreenthumb.com/ 1. Habit forming takes time, it's dependent on the person (and the habit!)   [2:00] Investigate past success What has worked for you before? Want to increase your habit by 95%? Hire a Coach!  Interested in working with me? Check out my Make a Habit Mentorship Program HERE   Do you like tracking your habit? Get the free Habit Tracker today! (see the side column for the download)   [4:45] Habit Stacking This is a great way to create new habits, use this method to build on your current habits in routine. Every morning I make coffee. I wanted to create more mindfulness so I created a “Morning Coffee Ritual” that helps me be more mindful, present, and sets an intention for how I want to feel for the day.    We all have habits already, what habits do you currently have, and how did they form? How are you staying consistent with it? Can you incorporate your new habit with an existing habit?   [7:48] Habit Triggers These help us simplify and support our habit more. How can you set yourself up for success with your habit; how can you make DOING your habit easier?   Simplify: more often than not creating a new habit is more complicated than it needs to be. Notice if you're creating a really big overreaching habit in the beginning. It's important to start small so that we can work our way to the bigger goals. Remember that habits form over time, we want to be successful right away, in the beginning. Set realistic and easy habits right away.   Commitment is doing the thing you said you were going to do, after the mood you set it in has left.   Supporting your habit: Think about what you will need to do your habit every day. Prep for your habit by collecting the things you need and getting them ready or putting them into the places where you're going to use them. Morning coffee habit with new journaling exercises? Put you journal and coffee mug with the coffee maker - and a pen! Daily workout habit? Grab your equipment + clothes and have them ready for you when you're doing your workout.   [13:18] Apps + Supportive tools Meditation: Insight Timer Favourite Meditation Teacher: Sarah Blondin Water: Hidrate App + Hidrate Bottle Language learning: Duolingo Apple Health App    Essential oils I use before working: dōTERRA's ADAPTIV “Calming Blend” dōTERRA's Balance “Grounding Blend” dōTERRA's Motivate “Motivating Blend' dōTERRA's Passion “Inspiring Blend”   [14:55] Celebrating + Milestones The apps I use have fun “badges, stickers, trophies” for when I am consistent with using the app and doing my daily habits Celebrate day one! Day seven, Day thirty, and more! Celebrate every day. Write out these dates in your planner/calendar. There are so many ways to celebrate: prize, sticker, gift, party, bottle of champagne, gourmet donut, shopping spree, cash money!   My Make a Habit Mentorship client, Aashima, is working out 3 times per week, and after one month she wants to buy a new workout outfit!   The prize is motivating you, and the prize CAN ALSO motivate you to keep going - assuming it supports your habit.   [19:12] What happens when we “fall off the horse” with our habits? Short answer: If at first you don't succeed, dust yourself off and try again.   Episode 111: Create Habits Based on Your Core Values with Deanne Frances #1 Come back to Your Intention: Why did you start the habit in the first place? How do you want to feel? When you reconnect to the feelings of WHY you started, you'll be motivated to get back on track.   #2 Start Small: Set a super small goal you KNOW you can achieve, like one workout this week. Then build to two the next week, and three after that. This is helping you build your confidence.   MOMENTUM Roller Blend Recipe  12 drops Eucalyptus 5 drops Douglas Fir 5 drops Marjoram 3 drops Patchouli 2 drops Lavender 1 drop Cinnamon 1 drop Cypress 1 drop Arborvitae 3 drops Lime 1 drop Ylang Ylang   #3 Celebrate Milestones: Since habits are formed over time, it's helpful to set up points to celebrate the success. Get excited about your habit again and put notes in your planner/calendar of how you will celebrate when you reach your milestone.   #4 Re-Evaluate Your Habit: Perhaps your intention is in the right place, but the habit isn't working for you. Or maybe it's the time of day; the complexity of your habit; or something else! Looks that the reasons why it's not getting done, and how you can get back on track with your habit and success.   [26:20] #5 Invest in a Coach: Having a coach to hold you accountable increases your chance of success by 95%! In my Make a Habit Mentorship Program we get clear on your goal, and I help you form your new habit in our four weeks together.   Next steps:  Download the FREE Habit Tracker Guide Check out my Make a Habit Mentorship Program here to see if it's right for you

THIS WEEK ON WHAT’S THE JUICE PODCAST Unless you’re new here, you’ve most likely heard me gush about my experience at ArborVitae School of Traditional Herbalism. Now, I haven’t always been a total herb nerd. This interest of mine was first ignited when I started buying supplements on Amazon and it quickly spiraled into a full-blown passion that just won’t quit! A few years ago I followed my gut to ArborVitae and I can say with 100% certainty that it was the right choice for me. I’ve learned SO much since I first started my program and it’s all thanks to my incredible, inspiring, brilliant teachers. This episode of What’s The Juice is a super special one for me because I get to introduce you to someone I’ve mentioned many times before: Richard Mandelbaum. Richard and Claudia Keel founded ArborVitae, and they’re the quintessential yin and yang team. In herbalism speak, where Claudia is the flower essence, Richard is the spleen qi... and they are both major herbalist GOALS.  Richard’s classes are full of Chinese Medicine (be still my heart), and he’s always encouraging his students to look at human health in a balanced way. He’s a Leo — so it’s no wonder that I resonate with him — but it’s his Aquarius moon AND Aquarius rising that make him such an innovator. Not only did he co-found an herbalism school in New York City, he’s also playing a vital role in shifting the way modern medicine approaches Lyme disease. Ready to get schooled by Richard Mandelbaum? The second of the harmony triads are 2, 5, and 8. Be sure you go back and listen to the first podcast on numbers 1, 4, 7. The body center of the second triad is the 8. They pursue justice and peace. Eights fight for the underdog. Often times 8s are seen as confrontational. When 8s are healthy and in their authentic self, they are confident, strong and resourceful. When 8s are on the edge they come across as aggressive, insensitive and intimidating. Arborvitae is the oil for the 8 center, because it helps to give grace. The arborvitae is a grounding oil and can help 8s to slow down and become grounded. The 2s are called the helper and very loving. 2s want to be liked and focus their attention to the needs of others. If they are not careful, they can become resentful over helping. A 2 in their authentic self is warm, generous, and supportive. In their adaptive side, the 2s can come across as clingy, angry, or possessive. The oil that is inviting for the 2 is Bergamot. Bergamot is helpful in allowing 2s to say no. Fives are the headspace of the triad and are investigators at heart. They gather a lot of information to know as much about something as they can. They have the ability to see possibilities and put them in sequence. Authentically, 5s are objective, focused and systematic, but in their adaptive place, they can seem intellectually arrogant, cynical and stingy.  The oil for the 5 is Douglas fir. Douglas fir is fresh, clean and sweet. This oil is great to help 5s get out of their head and share their wisdom with others. Douglas fir allows releasing of harmful patterns. The oils in this triad can be used individually and also together. Make a roller bottle or diffuse them to help you feel inspired. Also, opening up the oil bottle and dropping one drop in the hand and smelling the oil in the palms of your hands is a fast way to use these oils.   Connect with Teresa: teresa@teresamccloy.com Podcast: https://teresamccloy.com/podcast/ Work with Teresa: https://teresamccloy.com/work-with-me/   Connect with us→ via social media: Facebook: www.facebook.com/anaturalshift Instagram: www.instagram.com/anaturalshift/ Follow Julie-->www.instagram.com/julieanndavey/ Follow Kari--> www.instagram.com/karicoody/   On the web: www.anaturalshift.com   Check out our FREE goodies for you! ebooks: https://anaturalshift.com/free-e-books/ Printables: https://anaturalshift.com/free-printables/   Links to listen:

"Several times I've seen the evening slide away. Watching the signs taking over from the fading day." - Brian Eno from Golden Hours This is music for sitting on the porch in the evening, as the day slips into night. The sounds of traffic, lawn mowers & kids fade away as the first stars come out. I stole the title from a recording by Fognode, which you can find here... Fognode - Porch Music. Brian Siskind is Fognode & he has some fantastic albums that have been released over the years. Definitely worth checking out here... FOGNODE. Enjoy.
