How do you bridge the gap between the anxiety you may be feeling and the realities of your current situation? Our resident therapist, Dr. Jennifer Dragonette, explains the core principles of ACT, a behavioral therapy developed by Dr. Steven Hayes, designed to foster present-moment awareness, acceptance of reality, and cognitive diffusion.  Dr. Jen makes these concepts accessible, helping listeners visualize their thoughts as separate entities that can be managed rather than overtaken by them.  Our conversation focuses on a listener question regarding a significant life transition—retirement—and how deeply ingrained financial anxieties clash with aspirations like generosity. We tie the realms of financial planning with understanding the psychological complexities that impact our financial decisions.  Whether you're on the cusp of retirement or navigating any transitional phase, this insightful dialogue will equip you with the tools to align reality with your aspirations. What are you here to do? What's your soul's purpose? In this episode, I'm diving into dharma—the unique path you're meant to walk in this lifetime. As we step into 2025, it's easy to get swept up in all the “new year, new me” energy—but what if there's a different way to approach growth? In this episode, I'm flipping the narrative on reinvention and sharing my journey from chasing external validation to embracing self-acceptance rooted in remembrance. Together, we'll unpack how societal pressures—shaped by capitalism, colonialism, and systemic conditioning—convince us we need to "fix" ourselves, and why breaking free from those stories is an act of liberation.I'll also guide you through a simple, reflective exercise to help you reconnect with your core truths, release the pressure to perform, and set intentions that align with your authentic self. Growth isn't about erasing yourself—it's about remembering and nurturing the brilliance that's already within.Reflection prompts from this episode:• What's one thing you already love about yourself?• What makes you feel most like you?• What messages about self-improvement have made you feel like you're not enough?• How can you lovingly let go of those ideas this year?• What do you want to nurture or deepen in your life this year?• How can you honor your growth while staying true to yourself?Credits:Music - "I Enjoy My Space" by Sarah, The Illstrumentalist (via Epidemic Sound)Other episodes that may resonate:Discovering and Aligning with Your Core Values for Self-LiberationIt Doesn't Have to Be Perfect—Just Get StartedSupport the showHosted by Steph R. After exploring 5 powerful tools in previous episodes, I've noticed some common questions and concerns among our listeners. While many are eager to dive in, I've also heard about the challenges faced by friends and clients. Here's the reality: none of these tools is a one-size-fits-all solution. They offer insights, yes, but the real answers lie within you. It's much simpler than you think. Before you buy or try anything else, ask yourself: is this a challenge, or am I struggling? Your Core Values hold the key. Knowing yourself gives you the confidence to distinguish between struggle and challenge. Challenges propel you forward, build your courage, and deepen your understanding, while struggles bog you down and rob you of your energy. Once you've identified whether it's a challenge or a struggle, you can make decisions with authority to act in ways that will help move you through to the next level.Learn more here: Get involved! In today's episode of IntHERrupt, our host Linda Yates goes over values and their importance for leaders as the new year begins. What are your values? All a value refers to are things that are IMPORTANT to you. It could be your health, your family, or your career. Anything that holds significance to you and carries a lot of weight is one of your values. The first step in utilizing them as a leader is identifying them. Identify between 3 and 5 of your values and WRITE THEM DOWN. Now that they're written down, think, are there ANY of them that you could live without? If there are, then that's not a high value. After that, rank your values. Which one is the MOST important to you? How about the LEAST important? Why are values important? Your values determine what goals you reach, and how you reach them. If your values do NOT align with your goals, then you won't hit that goals! Your goals and values HAVE to align for you to reach the outcome you're wanting. Values also help teams work together and make decisions together. If you're faced with a difficult situation or dilemma, you can ALWAYS fall back on your values to help you move forwards. As a leader, values help you lead your team as well. With a strong, good, set of core values in place your team either WILL or WILL NOT align with those values. For the team members that don't align with your values, you can either help them realign or find a new team member who does align. Changing values Your CORE VALUES are designed to help you reach your goals. If your values don't help you reach those goals, then you CAN change them. A tip that Linda learned was to have a personal mission statement. Having a personal mission statement helps to create unity between you and your team members. Everyone knows WHAT the goal is and can together WORK towards that goal. Identify your values and utilize them. Values are CRITICAL for leaders to not only help themselves, but their ENTIRE TEAM work together towards their goals. Do you have stories to tell? Connect with Linda to share them. Your Core Values are the fundamental beliefs, principles and guidelines you live your life by. We all have them whether we are aware of them or not. But consciously identifying them will help you in all areas of your life. At work, in all of your relationships and in decision making.  And it's equally important to choose Core Values for your organization, veterinary practice, rescue, shelter or even your department in a large corporation. Core Values help employees see how they are a part of something bigger than themselves and it allows everyone to see if the decisions and protocols are in alignment with the values of the organization.  Here's the list of Core Values for you to choose your Personal Core Values. #straightfromcait: Anxious About Re-Entry? Boundary-Building Skills You Must Learn NOW to Be Ready For Post-COVID Life

Fried. The Burnout Podcast

OverviewCOVID has sucked, there's no question about it. But at the same time, the pandemic has given us an unexpected excuse with which to better uphold our boundaries. Now that COVID regulations are loosening, this automatically acceptable justification is beginning to disappear. So, how do you uphold your boundaries even after social distancing and mask mandates are lifted? The key is getting honest with yourself about your values. I recommend first completing my Living According to Your Core Values worksheet (which is free on my website and linked below!). This will help you identify the values that are most fundamental in your daily life. Then, I suggest creating action statements around each of these values. For example, if a value of yours is family, an action statement might be “Eat dinner together as a family 5 nights a week with no phones.” Not only will this exercise allow you to better incorporate your values into your day-to-day life, but it will also allow you to uphold your boundaries in a clear, kind and concise way. When it comes to boundaries, it's important to avoid white lies, passive aggression and wiggle room. By integrating your values into your life in a tangible way, you can honestly and efficiently express your boundaries to others. Like anything, boundary building takes practice. If you need a little support along the way, I'll be watching the hashtag #buildbetterboundaries all week to help clear up your boundary statements (if you're brave enough to write some!) and make sure there are no thorns, no lies and no wiggle room! This is one of the most important skills you need to recover from burnout and prevent it in the future. You've got this!  Quotes• “So, how do you keep the pieces of the pandemic that really worked for you and still have space for adding some community time, friendship time and extended family time to your calendar?...You start by getting really honest about your values.” (2:44-3:01) • “When you are able, with clarity, to define your values, your decision making process becomes easier and then the language you use to build boundaries becomes clearer and it becomes easier for you to say, easier for you to share and easier for other people to accept and just move on from.” (3:29-3:50) • “When boundaries are well-stated, they are clear, kind and concise...When boundaries are well-stated, they avoid lies, thorns and wiggle room.” (7:30-7:47) • “The more you practice...making sure your boundaries are clear, kind and concise, the easier it becomes because you realize that it actually improves all of your relationships. No one's wondering if they're putting you out because you're not letting anybody put you out. You're not worrying if somebody's pushing you too far because you don't let people push you too far. The boundaries that you create speaking this way will make all of your relationships better if you give it enough time.” (10:41-11:13) Linkshttps://caitdonovan.com/freebie-values  XOXO,C If you know that it's time to actually DO something about the burnout cycle you've been in for too long - book your free consult today: bit.ly/callcait Podcast production and show notes provided by FIRESIDE Marketing

How can you set yourself up for success with your habit; how can you make DOING your habit easier?   Simplify: more often than not creating a new habit is more complicated than it needs to be. Notice if you're creating a really big overreaching habit in the beginning. It's important to start small so that we can work our way to the bigger goals. Remember that habits form over time, we want to be successful right away, in the beginning. Set realistic and easy habits right away.   Commitment is doing the thing you said you were going to do, after the mood you set it in has left.   Supporting your habit: Think about what you will need to do your habit every day. Prep for your habit by collecting the things you need and getting them ready or putting them into the places where you're going to use them. Morning coffee habit with new journaling exercises? 3 Simple Steps to Identify your Core Values Tracy Bingaman, PA-C It's a New Year! A time of reevaluating what you've been doing and what you want to do more or less of in the coming year. A time where individuals set down new goals and set “New Years Resolutions” as though there's some magic about the changing of one year to another. 2020 was a doozy. As a Mom you had to pivot in ways you could've never imagined. You dealt with virtual learning, remote working, or maybe you you worked on the frontlines during the COVID-19 Pandemic. 2021 is shiny and new, the opportunity to refocus on what's truly the most important in your life. In order to head into 2021 living our best lives as the most fulfilled version of yourself, you have to get clear on a few things. You have to clearly identify your Core Values. Your Core Values are those things that are the most important, most vital, and most central to your life. Living each day in alignment with your Core Values is the foundation to a life of Fulfillment! There are three steps to Identify your Core Values. First you need to Think, then Consolidate, and the third step is to Personalize. Think First – about memories that bring you joy or times when you felt the most fulfilled. Generate memories and examples of times that are bright, shiny, happy and full. Assign each one of these memories Core Values. If you'd like a worksheet that includes these steps in detail and 100 examples of Core Values, you can find it here. Consolidate – Trim your List – Down to just 4 Core Values. If you have difficulty narrowing it down, choose the one from your list you would select if you're able to choose just one. Then repeat until you've identified the 4 Values that are most important to you. Personalize – Define these Values in a way that is poignant and important to you. These Values have to be meaningful, visceral, and evoke an emotional and powerful reaction in you. Dr. Tisser is an emergency physician and podcaster at Talk2MeDoc which focuses on issues relating to the early-career physician. He is also the owner and president of Talk2MeDoc LLC which helps early-career doctors develop career strategies, navigate career transitions and design the life they want. In this episode, Erkeda talks to Dr. Tisser about choosing a specialty, non-clinical careers paths and developing your financial literacy. Talk2MeDoc Dr. Tisser initially started Talk2MeDoc to explore the experiences of other healthcare professionals and discuss the details of healthcare communication. Over time, however, Dr. Tisser realised that his passion was helping new doctors which led to the consulting arm of Talk2MeDoc. The theme of his podcast is “Keep Talking” and attempts to promote enhanced communication. It explores the intricacies of healthcare at every level, hosting guests from all areas of healthcare and beyond. Why Dr. Tisser Chose Emergency Medicine Dr. Tisser was a firefighter and EMT in college and continued in the first few years of medical school. He always knew he would eventually practice emergency medicine, and though he tried, other specialties failed to capture his attention. When choosing a specialty, Dr. Tisser suggests that students start by making a list of all the available options and then crossing items off the list, as opposed to adding specialties to a list as they pique your interest. An important part of this exercise is identifying what you do not like about the specific field you are crossing off. Dr. Tisser discovered early on that he did not like obstetrics, and concluded his aversion was contingent on his dislike of the OR. In addition, this allowed him to eliminate all surgical specialties. This process of elimination also allows the student to distinguish whether their feelings towards a specialty is based on the specialty itself, or a bad experience or attending. Diversifying Your Income Dr. Tisser loves to talk about money and thinks that you should do it more often because money is important. While there are varying opinions on diversifying one’s income, Dr. Tisser's advice is that you should do what's right for you. Educating yourself about money is an important first step in developing a plan to monetize your degree and finding a career you love either inside or outside of medicine that allows you to meet your personal goals.   Dr. Tisser cites the sunk cost fallacy as a reason many doctors choose to become doctors. People often become anxious over what they feel they have put in and feel like they have to go on to become a doctor, to recoup the time and money they have spent in medical school. In order to build a life you can love, Dr. Tisser urges students and physicians to do what makes you feel fulfilled and aligns with your core values.   Setting Yourself Up Financially Make mistakes, but not big, bad mistakes. Doctors are often scared by areas they feel they are not proficient in, like financial planning. Acquiring a basic grasp of financial literacy is the first step in taking control of your financial health and ensuring that your life is not ruled by financial anxiety. Medical school is a massive expense, but loans and the accompanying stress should not run your life; the loans can be managed. Avoiding debts at all costs is also not always reasonable; it is important to remember to live life. Dr. Tisser’s Advice to Pre-Meds and Medical Students “There is no failure in life, just feedback.” Everything teaches you a lesson, it is your responsibility to keep learning. See something, say something. Dr. Tisser also urges students to speak up when they experience something that makes them uncomfortable. Go for it. As with anything else you want in life, you need to identify it, develop a plan to get it, and go for it. Dr. Tisser urges students to actively pursue their career goals, including non-clinical paths, by seeking out mentors, polishing their resumes and scouring LinkedIn for opportunities. Even if you are rejected, you lose nothing.

Values can be defined as principles, standards of behavior, or judgments about what is important in life. Your value system changes, maybe not often, but when is the last time you sat down in silence with a list of different values in front of you and narrowed down five? Topics discussed:  How to identify your top priorities   How to pick your top twenty values   How to narrow it down to your top 5 core values  Is your life aligned with what you value most?  Think of values as finding your North Star and following your inner compass to make the best decisions and choices possible for your life.  Values change in our career, our relationships, menopause, and as we age. YOUR CORE VALUES are your most deeply held beliefs and don’t tend to change much throughout our lives.  These are our top values. They help us determine what we believe is the difference between right and wrong. How To Align Your Values Worksheet Find Lori:  Email  Facebook community Website Instagram Facebook page

When you work hard on your job you make a living and when you work hard on yourself you'll make a fortune.” ~Jim Rohn [NOTE: This is our NEW YEAR BREAKTHROUGH Series, "How to Make 2018 Your Best Breakthrough New Year!"] Step 1# is about deciding. Step #2 is about awareness and assessment. So, STEP #3 is... YOUR CORE VALUES. MISSION and VISION That sounds like some work doesn't it? Which is why 95% of people never go through these exercises. They require deep introspection, humility and courage. But, it's no coincidence that the greatest organizations and companies do these exercises they have figured this out. Truth is, it was only after doing this exercise for my company that I realized I HAD TO DO THIS FOR MYSELF and it was a game-changer! Thus, it's part of the FOUNDATION for our Personal Breakthrough Series. Why don't most people do these exercises for themselves? First, they require work (time and energy). The other reason is people begin to doubt themselves and wonder if they know what their values are, or what their Mission statement ought to say. It take time and careful introspection. Hence, such self questioning is the very proof that these are personal, mental exercises that MUST BE DONE! ***TIP*** DO NOT WORRY about getting it "RIGHT" the first time or even the fifth time, this is a PROCESS. These are your abdominal muscles. They control your balance, and posture. In life, it's just as important to strengthen your core values they define who you are and give you balance and posture. More than anything else, as a dad, I want to teach my boys to have Core values . I don't care, ultimately, what their political or religious beliefs are, I don't care what they choose as a career, as long as all of these things are in alignment with their own core values. Honesty. I spent so much of my life living a lie and telling lies took me a long time to get back to the truth. You can feel it in your soul when you are living according to your core values. You vibrate. You're soul sings. You feel light. It gives you energy and happiness that does not come from anything outside of you. You also know when you are living contrary to your values--you lose energy, you feel a heaviness, darkness within you. Maybe not immediately, but soon after, you know what you did was not in alignment with your values. My purpose statement is "to love, serve, and add value to the lives of others" I know when I am living according to my purpose. I know when I am not. I also know that when I am living according to my purpose and values, I can be happy and confident regardless of my circumstances or the people I am around. I have learned to simply leave settings in which people are behaving in a way that is contrary to my values. It is not a negative judgement against them. It is a protective action for me, and ultimately a gift to them and the world. When I am always in sync with my values, I improve and everything around me improves--the same is true for you! When you live according to your core values, you stand out from the crowd. You are different and people notice. That may be uncomfortable, especially for teens. My teen chose to be different, to live by his rules, not his peers. His teachers have noticed that and that is why he won the award. Winning the award was not his intention. Howie Day: "even the best fall down some times" Vince Lombardy: "Man's greatest glory lies not in never falling, but in rising every time he falls" We are human, none of us are perfect. Strength and evidence of core values is recognizing when you have strayed and taking steps to get back in alignment. Know your core values. Your non-negotiables. Your deal-breakers (especially you single people out there!). Be willing to be alone a while longer, rather than compromise your values. Your values don't need to be the same as mine. In fact they should not be the same as mine simply because mine sound good. Do your own soul searching. Discover your uniqueness. Own it. Own it. I want my boys to become men who have discovered and embraced who they are, not who their dad told them they should be. Mentioned in this show: Help me create better content.
