As the interest in both space and solar grows, one startup aims to merge the two industries. By tapping into the momentum of the commercial space industry and the increasing demand for renewable energy, Robinhood co-founder Baiju Bhatt is on a mission to make space-based solar power a reality with his latest startup: Aetherflux. Today on Equity, Rebecca Bellan caught up with Bhatt to talk about his transition from fintech to deep tech and why he believes now is the right time to scatter solar power-collecting satellites across the skies. Listen to the full episode to hear more about: How Aetherflux approached funding as a bootstrapped startup (for now), and what investor interest in space-based solar looks like. The challenge of scaling tech that's literally out of this world. And Bellan and Bhatt's idea for a Burning Man light show. Tech entrepreneur Baiju Bhatt, known for disrupting the investing landscape with Robinhood, has his sights on the space industry. The Robinhood co-founder left his role as chief creative officer in March of this year, and announced space solar startup Aetherflux in October. Bhatt joins On Orbit this week to talk about why he wanted to start a space company, and tackle the goal of building a power grid in space. He shares his longtime passion for space that started with looking up to his dad who worked at NASA, and being inspired by the pace of innovation in the commercial space industry today. Aetherflux is pursuing a vision of a power grid in space — one that's not tied to the power grid on Earth, able to beam power down to remote locations. While space solar power is not a new concept, it's a bold vision that has not been accomplished before. Bhatt talks about Aetherflux's approach to use satellites in LEO equipped with high power lasers to transmit solar power to ground stations down on Earth, and what kinds of opportunities a space power grid could make possible both on Earth and in space. This episode is sponsored by AvL Technologies, a leading manufacturer of multi-band and multi-orbit satellite communications ground terminals.

Dr. Baiju Gandhi, Consultation-Liaison Psychiatrist and IWP student, discussed "Developing Deradicalization Programs for US Domestic Extremism" on March 30, 2023 at The Institute of World Politics. This lecture is part of IWP's Student Speaker Lecture Series. About the Lecture: In recent years, the United States homeland has seen an increased threat from domestic terrorism and extremism. Addressing this unique threat requires utilizing new tools to supplement law enforcement. Deradicalization programs may be one of these tools. Such programs' goals are to disengage radicalized or radicalizing individuals from acting violently and slowly pull that individual's mindset toward a less extreme state. While these programs have been in place in Europe for many years, development in the United States is in its infancy. In this lecture, we will review psychological theories of radicalization and deradicalization, describe existing deradicalization programs in Europe, and address suggestions for development of deradicalization programs in the United States. About the Speaker: Dr. Baiju Gandhi is a physician with a specialization in general psychiatry and sub-specialization in the psychiatric care of the medically ill. He graduated from the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine and Harris School of Public Policy in 2009 with a joint M.D.-M.A. in public policy. His interests include the intersection of behavioral science and national security. He is currently a student at IWP (Institute of World Politics), pursuing a graduate certificate in non-violent conflict. ***Learn more about IWP graduate programs: https://www.iwp.edu/academic-programs/ ***Make a gift to IWP: https://interland3.donorperfect.net/weblink/WebLink.aspx?name=E231090&id=18

The Malayalam film industry has produced some iconic films based on the state's complex political structure. Political satire such as Sandesam remains one of the best Malayalam films ever created for its use of humour to tell a compelling tale of family, society, and politics. However, the more serious political films have often been tainted by over-the-top dialogues and larger-than-life characters. The 2013 film, Left Right Left, is a grounded take on Kerala's political landscape, focusing on the communist party. The film courted controversy when it was released in 2013 as many believed that the story is loosely based on the current Chief Minister of Kerala, Pinarayi Vijayan. Directed by Arun, the film stars Murali Gopi as Roy Joseph, Indrajith Sukumaran as P K Jayan, and Hareesh Peradi as Kaitheri Sahadevan. It also features a vast ensemble of supporting actors such as Remya Nambeshan, Anusree, Lena, Baiju, Jagadish, Mammukoya, and Saiju Kurup. The riveting story features the rise of political leaders and how ambition often creates moral and ethical dilemmas. Set across three time periods starting from the 60s, the plot revolves around the lives of a corrupt policeman, a former revolutionary, and a powerful politician with a questionable past. The film was praised for its balanced portrayal of its complex characters and the excellent performances by the cast. Even though it failed to find commercial success during its theatrical run, it has since attained cult status on online streaming services. Catch it streaming on Sun NXT.Well that's the Lost and found for today, until the next time it's your host Nikhil out of here. Aaj kya dekhoge OTTplay se poochoWritten by Ryan Gomez
