Are you one of the many who have tried dieting to lose weight and it just doesn't seem to work? Many of us have been in the vicious cycle of dieting and today I am thrilled to be joined by Camille Martin, as she helps us dive deep into loving our life and losing weight.Camille is a registered dietician, public health writer, and former chronic dieter dedicated to helping women quit dieting, set bigger and better goals, reclaim their excitement for life, and lose weight in the process. There are so many layers that go into losing weight and it goes so much deeper than we normally talk about. Camille is preaching that the better you feel inside and the more joy you have for your life will help dramatically in how your body carries and holds onto weight.Listen as Camille and I have a passionate conversation about the power of women reclaiming their worth and confidence and searching into those deep places to find out why we are eating the way we are and releasing the shame we have around our bodies.
Losing weight is an ever-ending battle for so many people, and it often feels like a constant sacrifice that is never enough. Eating restrictions creates resistance and food disorders that end up not feeding and nourishing your body and soul. Living in a "filter bubble" and a culture that focuses on body image rather than nourishment and care has made it hard for many women to love themselves. The pressure to diet and lose weight is increasing exponentially from social media, peers, family, and even government policies, which are normalizing restrictive diets. The media will always be there, and when we allow it to dictate how we feel and eat, it is easy to get jaded by all the information we receive. We all know what to eat! It's not a mystery. Eating right has nothing to do with food. It is about the way we eat our food. Our thoughts, emotions, and attitude toward ourselves influence how we eat. When we change our attitude and find more peace and joy in who we are and what we do, our bodies will start to stabilize and normalize without dieting. You are not your body. Get in touch with who you are and transform your life. In this episode, Camille Martin, a registered dietician and former chronic dieter, talks about how we can shed the stress and the resistance we bring into our lives to shed physical pounds. There are a lot of reasons why 95% of diets fail, and we are going to get to the root of all these issues. Take a listen! Snapshot of the Key Points from the Episode: [01:53] Camille's experience with dieting and eating disorders and how she got out of the dieting spiral, overcame the resistance, and turned everything around. [06:08] The psychological side of dieting and weight gain and how it can dominate your thoughts and behaviors. [08:07] How Camille works with her clients to help them shed the thought process that has been ingrained in them for decades. [11:21] What leads to sugar craving and emotional eating and how to manage, untrain ourselves and break the habit. Camille suggests micro steps that you can start practicing immediately to modify bad habits to good ones. [14:41] The therapy side of diet is not about the food but how you eat it. [16:06] Camille's advice on the amount of daily routine that you should try to incorporate into your lifestyle [18:47] Key takeaways from Camille to women who are struggling on how they can take the lead and reclaim their life About Camille Martin - Camille is a registered dietitian, public health writer, and former chronic dieter dedicated to helping women quit dieting, set bigger and better goals, reclaim their excitement for life — and lose weight in the process. She spent nearly 25 years of her life on a diet, and she's passionate about showing women how to break free from the downward dieting spiral of failure and the shame it brings. She learned through a long (and sometimes painful) process how to improve her relationship with food, change her destructive habits and negative thought patterns, and lose weight without dieting. Her mission is to help women learn so they can short-cut that process and be on their way to a happier, healthier life — one that's no longer dominated by desperation to lose weight . . . but that will naturally help you lose it. In her "other" life, she is an editor for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the author of Love to Lose, and a proud mom of two beautiful daughters and their rescue dogs. Because of her difficult past with the diet industry she has strong feelings about the problems that can result from diet culture. I'm joined by Camille Martin, a registered dietitian and public health writer. Camille is on a mission to help people release themselves from diet culture so that they can live freely and authentically. Her book, Love To Lose: Love Your Life and Watch the Weight Lose Itself, explores how to make permanent lifestyle changes to lose weight for good and reach your full potential. Camille and I both grew up during the era when low-fat and high-carb diets were all the rage. Camille started dieting at the age of 12, which eventually led to struggles with eating disorders and body dysmorphia as an adult. She learned to ignore her inner guide and follow what society expected of her. She married a man who she knew wasn't the right person for her, and stayed married for 17 years until she reached her breaking point. Camille shares her advice for people who are in a similar position and dives into some of the wisdom she's gained on the other side of divorce. We discuss how midlife is really an opportunity to wake up and course correct. We're both big believers that it's never too late to tune into your intuition and follow your biggest dreams. Camille wakes up everyday and asks herself one simple question: am I happy? She structures her day around what's going to push her towards her goals and help her thrive, which is something that supports her in her journey to feeling younger while growing older. Listen in to hear our conversation about the power of following your inner guide and living your truth. If you are enjoying these conversations, please subscribe and spread the love by leaving a review and sharing it with your friends.Listen to the episode on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Google Podcasts, Stitcher, TuneIn, or on your favorite podcast platform. She also made powerful connections between women's obsession to lose weight and the cultural conditioning that keeps them locked in a prison of silence, shame, and limitation. In her book, Love To Lose: Love Your Life and Watch the Weight Lose Itself, she uses what she learned on her own weight-loss journey to help other women stop wasting their lives on a diet, embrace everything about themselves, achieve what they're truly capable of − and lose weight in the process. She received a Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of Georgia and a Bachelor of Science in nutrition from Georgia State University. She is a vegetarian, marathon runner, and avid reader who loves to travel. She lives in Charlotte, North Carolina, with her two daughters and their rescue dogs. What We Discuss In This Episode: Camille shares her journey through life as a serial dieter – always trying to get those same 10-15 pounds of weight off. Many of us have been there and totally can relate to her story. She found herself facing bulimia before realizing she had to make some changes. After taking some college classes, Camille went on to become a Registered Dietician. While this has served her well, she has really found her passion in helping her clients find goals outside the “weight loss” arena and in the process, they find themselves losing weight and feeling happier and more joyful. Women, especially, have a tendency to have their emotions tied to food and for many of Camille's clients, and even us as we listen in, find some ‘ah-ha' moments when we realize that the patterns of binge eating, addiction to food, and eating for comfort may not have been recognized by us in the past. Camille opens up this discussion for us so that we can become more in tune with our bodies and our emotions so that we can become more aware of what serves our body and what does not. Camille closes us out with some fantastic tips for our day-to-day lives that can change the game (so to speak) for us. The holiday season is over and the New Year has begun! You're filled with inspired thoughts of the better "you" you'll become and first thing on the list is to LOSE that holiday weight...well, I'm not unlike you. And my guest today, Camille Martin, registered dietitian, public health writer, author of “Love To Lose: Love Your Life & Watch The Weight Lose Itself” and facilitator of change for women speaks to us about how to focus this energy from a productive place of joy rather than the negative, self-deprecating place the culture of dieting often comes from. Her inside-out approach completely focuses on shifting our mindsets from these lower vibrations of comparison and appearance to choosing more for ourselves in the way of big goals that leverage our gifts and purpose. She shares that by doing this, we naturally begin to make new choices and change our habits that support the desired weight loss. Keep that New Year's resolution with Camille's realistic and long-lasting approach and next year...you'll be open to making a NEW resolution that has nothing to do with how you look! On this episode of The Awakened Feminine podcast, I chat with Camille Martin, a Registered Dietitian, Public Health Writer, Owner of Love To Lose, and former chronic dieter dedicated to helping women quit dieting, set bigger and better goals, reclaim their excitement for life — and lose weight in the process. She spent nearly 25 years of her life on a diet, and she's passionate about showing women how to break free from the downward dieting spiral of failure and improve their relationship with food, change their destructive habits and negative thought patterns, and lose weight without dieting. A journey which she shares in her book, Love to Lose: Love Your Life and Watch the Weight Lose Itself. She also wants to show women how setting and achieving a big goal that has nothing to do with losing weight is what will help you lose it – because the confident, inspired person you become while working toward it naturally adopts the thoughts and habits consistent with health. She wants to teach you what she learned on her journey so you can short-cut the process and be on your way to a happier, healthier life — one that's no longer dominated by a desperation to lose weight. During our time together, Camille and I dive into: How loving your life can help you lose the weight Tell-tale signs of eating disorders and body dysmorphia in children Why you need to stop dieting Self-awareness is key to changing your habits Plus so much more! Sweetbread, cakes, and ham with a side of hot pepper sauce were the smells that overwhelmed my West Indian home as a child during the holidays. I could indulge in these delicacies without a second thought. As an adult, however, holiday eating can be a real challenge while trying to improve my health. There's this battle between wanting to enjoy food, family and friends during the holiday but not blow the progress I've made with my health. Many of us face this challenge, and this can lead us on the cycle of chronic dieting followed by shame and blame. To help us through the holiday eating maze I've brought in renowned dietician Camille Martin. Camille Martin is a registered dietitian, public health writer, and former chronic dieter. She's dedicated to helping women quit dieting, set bigger and better goals, reclaim their excitement for life — and lose weight in the process. Key Takeaways1. Issues with food often become issues with mental health. When you're worried about food and what it does to your body, you become over-critical of yourself and this can lead to eating disorders, depression, and sleep issues to name a few.2. Allow yourself to enjoy the holidays! Don't stress about eating too much. Allow yourself to have fun and enjoy a bit more food than you normally would. Focusing on how much you're eating can lead you to eating too much or not enough.3. It's important to change the way you talk about yourself. What you think and feel will eventually translate into your physical appearance. Learn to be at peace with yourself and it will translate to your body in a positive way. Episode Moments/Quotes 3:03 - Introduction of Camille Martin13:23 - “When we allow ourselves to lose control in other areas we try to think we're reclaiming it with food, but we are actually doing more damage to ourselves” -Dr. Neely15:50 - Why and how Camille Martin broke her diet cycle 24: 48 - “The more you attend to your soul and your heart, your body will adjust to match” -Camille Martin34:03 - "It's not about doing to get, it's about feeling to become." Research on the TopicEmotional eating, as described by Psychology today, is the combination of stress and hunger. They explain that hunger can be normal hunger or hunger based on feelings, and that feelings of stress are often associated with feelings of hunger. Combine this with the stress of the holiday and emotional eating can sometimes get out of hand. When it does, we shame ourselves for the food we've eaten and the weight we've gained and force ourselves to follow crazy diets. This can add more stress, which in turn creates a cycle of eating, shame, and diet. Check out the link below for more information about emotional eating! Camille Martin is a registered dietitian, health blogger, and senior technical editor for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. She is also a former chronic dieter who wasted nearly 25 years of her life on a diet. When she finally quit dieting and started setting and achieving more meaningful goals, she lost weight without trying. She also made powerful connections between women's obsession to lose weight and the cultural conditioning that keeps them locked in a prison of silence, shame, and limitation. In her book, Love To Lose: Love Your Life and Watch the Weight Lose Itself, she uses what she learned on her own weight-loss journey to help other women stop wasting their lives on a diet, embrace everything about themselves, achieve what they're truly capable of -- and lose weight in the process. She received a Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of Georgia and a Bachelor of Science in nutrition from Georgia State University. She is a vegetarian, marathon runner, and avid reader who loves to travel. Most of us, at one time in our lives or another...or maybe many times, have gone on a diet. Whether we followed a formal "plan" or just tried to make ourselves eat healthier, it was likely coupled with a few conversations of "why did you do that?" and "you can't do this until you do that." What would happen if you let it all go? If you removed these thoughts and even the diet itself? This week Jenn sits down with Camille Martin, RD to discuss letting go of the diet mindset. Camille's story is powerful and one many of us can relate to. Then Jenn and Camille break it down so we can all start to let go...in the best way! Listen now, you'll love this conversation. She lives in Charlotte, North Carolina, with her two daughters and their rescue dogs. Camille Martin is a woman like many of us. She has been on some sort of a diet since she was 12 and developed an eating disorder all in the attempts to fit in the mold that society pressures women to fit into. At 30, she decided that she no longer wanted to be controlled by the obsession with food and weight. She gave herself permission to stop the madness and as a result found herself again. Camille became a registered dietitian and made it her mission to help other women free themselves from those pressures and to stand proud as who they are. https://camillemartinrd.com/

We all know hot girl summer is approaching us, and everyone is trying to show out for the occasion! Weight loss is at the forefront of society right now and while we're all for people living a healthy lifestyle, we can't help but see how focusing on our physical body can negatively affect our lives. I sat down with Camille Martin, who is a registered dietitian, to discuss how obsession with weight loss can create a strong hold on our mental health. No stranger to the negative effects of weight loss and dieting, Camille spent 25 of her years as a chronic dieter and someone who struggled with eating disorders. Realizing she didn't want her inner mean girl to control her anymore, she quit dieting and began changing her habits little by little. She is now a public health writer who dedicates her time to helping women quit dieting, set bigger and better goals, and reclaim their excitement for life!
