We kick off the show reacting to the release of the Panthers' schedule, and Tobin is fired up about the Cats getting disrespected with a 5 PM start to the season opener. Breaking NBA news: The Suns have bought out Bradley Beal, and he's expected to sign with the Clippers. That leads to a round of hypotheticals — with LeBron set to report to Lakers training camp, could he be looking for a change? We let our Heat dreams run wild. To close out the show, Tobin and Leroy go in together on a bet with their picks for this weekend's U.S. Open!
Cats can't see in total darkness, but do have specialized eye structures that allow them to see better in low light. These remarkable features reveal purposeful design suited to each creature's needs. To support this ministry financially, visit: https://www.oneplace.com/donate/1232/29

Secrets of the hoax – real & imagined beastsOur first guest Simon Lea had two close encounters with a large black panther at his farmholding in Oxfordshire. He later created the life-size metal panther that was positioned in Charlbury in a large garden close to the station. The ‘panther' was spotted by train passengers and sometimes got reported as a real big cat, as previously discussed on ep 93 of the podcast. We hear the full story behind the Charlbury Panther from Simon.Simon has just made a replica Charlbury Panther for the coming event, Depicting Britain's Beasts – the art of British big cats, at Nature in Art gallery, Gloucestershire, 12-22 August, 2025. https://natureinart.org.uk/event/depicting-britains-beasts-the-art-of-british-big-cats/?instance_id=977#:~:text=With%20evidence%20from%20DNA%20and,been%20moved%20to%20illustrate%20them.Our second guest Andy Council is a Bristol based mural painter and graffiti artist. He discusses three of his British black panther illustrations which will be at the Nature in Art event in August. He explains how he came to use British big cats amongst his public artwork. One of Andy's paintings is the Five Valleys Panther, based on big cat sightings in the Stroud area. Andy and Rick discuss sightings they have heard about in people's gardens in that area. Andy is interested in awareness raising through his art. He explains the importance of showing panthers, pumas and lynx in a British setting, and he describes the challenges of depicting a big cat in a modern street-art style. “They're not homeless. They know exactly where their home is, and they've chosen to be there. We're literally returning them home—vaccinated and spayed—so it's a win for the cat, the shelter, and the neighborhood.” - Karen Little This episode is sponsored-in-part by Maddie's Fund and the Rescue Cleaners and Disinfectants. In this special on-location episode of the Community Cats Podcast, Stacy LeBaron brings you to the bustling Humane World for Animals Expo in Las Vegas for a candid, practical conversation on the future of Return-to-Field (RTF) and community cats. Joined by Karen Little of Alley Cat Advocates and Bryan Kortis of Neighborhood Cats, this episode breaks down what RTF really means, why it remains one of the field's most pressing challenges, and how shelters of all sizes can adapt best practices while navigating real-world limitations. Karen and Bryan, each with decades of frontline TNR and shelter collaboration experience, explore the tension between “gold standard” individual cat assessments and the operational realities of crowded shelters. They emphasize the importance of gathering quality intake information, partnering with communities, and maintaining flexibility during kitten seasons, all while ensuring the welfare of cats remains central. The episode also unpacks the misconceptions around RTF, the critical difference between TNR and RTF, and the complexities of assessing “friendly” cats in the shelter environment. Whether you're a large urban shelter manager or a small grassroots TNR organizer, this conversation will leave you with a clearer, practical understanding of how RTF can reduce euthanasia, manage overpopulation, and align with your community's needs. Tune in for insights, humor, and a real-time feel of Expo energy as you learn actionable strategies to strengthen your community cat programs and advocate effectively for cats wherever you are. The Shining Wizards return to cover a huge week in pro wrestling. There is a bit of a snag with the Death Pool as someone picked someone who apparently has been dead for 8 years. We talk some AEW All In Texas & a little bit of ROH Supercard of Honor. Overall Matt enjoyed what he watched (he didn't see everything) & we ponder if HK would have enjoyed any of it. We are then joined by the Stiff Robo Ginger Gary Jay. We get to the root of his nickname, talk about Cats, Robocop, Home Alone, Owls, & so much more. There's a bit of a connection issue, but it's a fine interview & great chat with Gary. Back from break we talk about the weekend WWE had. Covering everything from NXT, Saturday Night's Main Event and Evolution. We sprinkle in a preview of the TNA PPV this weekend before jumping into last week's homework. We go back to ECW July 11, 2006 for Big Show vs Ric Flair in an Extreme Rules Match. Find out how the boys felt about this match. Tony is up this week & he takes us back to 1983 for this AWA Classic. Are pet sitters and veterinarians really on the same team when it comes to caring for cats? In this episode, Dr. Ashlie Saffire, feline specialist and President of the Feline Veterinary Medical Association, joins the show to explore how deeper collaboration between pet sitters and veterinary professionals can dramatically improve cat care. She dives into common stress-related cat health issues, the importance of maintaining routines, and why understanding feline behavior is essential. They discuss practical tips for pet sitters—like using pheromones, documenting eating habits, and asking better intake questions. Dr. Saffire also encourages pet sitters to pursue certifications and reach out to local clinics to form partnerships built on trust and knowledge. Main topics: Building vet-pet sitter partnerships Understanding cat stress and anxiety Importance of routine in feline care Using pheromone therapy for calmer cats Certification and education for sitters Main takeaway: “Cats actually are a lot harder to care for than dogs… People are finally figuring that out.” Dr. Ashlie Saffire, feline vet and President of the Feline Veterinary Medical Association, joined us on Pet Sitter Confessional to talk all things cat care. As more pet parents recognize the unique needs of their cats, pet sitters have a vital role to play in supporting feline health. From routines to stress reduction to better communication with vet teams, we can make a big difference--if we take cats seriously. Let's give cats the thoughtful, professional care they truly deserve.
