He's back on Car Con Carne as his first solo album, “The Cost of Living,” is celebrating its 25th anniversary. To mark the occasion, David Singer and the Sweet Science headline the Hideout on Saturday, December 14 (Early show! Cheap tickets!). Since he's playing the Hideout soon, we decided to record at the Hideout (thanks, Katie and Tim). Prior to Verint, Dave was a Principal at eLoyalty and a Software Architect at IBM. Questions We always like to give our guests an opportunity to share in their own words a little bit about your journey, how it is that you got from where you were to where you are today? What is Verint? And what does Verint do? What would you say are maybe two or three overarching themes or pain points that your customers predominantly have challenges with as it relates to closing that customer engagement gap? What do you think are maybe two things if your clients came to you and asked where do you think we need to be putting our focus for 2024 to kind of set ourselves apart from the competition and really be able to supersede our customers' expectations?” What would those two things be based on your experience, as well as maybe what the data is actually telling you? Could you also share with our audience what's the one online resource, tool, website or app that you absolutely can't live without In your business? Can you also share with us maybe one or two books that you've read that has had a great impact on you? It could be a book that you read recently, or even one that you read a very long time ago, but it has had a great impact on you. Can you also share with our listeners what's the one thing that's going on in your life right now that you're really excited about? Either something you're working on to develop yourself or your people. Where can listeners find you online? Now, before we wrap our episodes, we always like to ask our guests, do you have a quote or saying that during times of adversity or challenge, you will tend to revert to this quote if for any reason you get derailed or you get off track? The quote kind of helps to get you back on track. Do you have one of those? Highlights Dave's Journey Me: I know we read a little bit about your background in the bio that I just read. But we always like to give our guests an opportunity to share in their own words a little bit about your journey, how it is that you got from where you were to where you are today? Dave shared that he'll go to beginning to now, the opposite order of the quick CV Yanique read. So, as was said, he started out life as a Software Engineer and after a little while, he realized he could have more impact on more customers and more people if he moved from just building one piece of code to consulting with organization, how do you use technology to improve their customer service and improve their operations. He did that for a while, then he moved over to Verint and he really felt that Verint had a great set of applications and tools to do exactly that. And so, moved through there, again, continue to help customers deliver better experiences, their (Verint) customers better experiences for their customers and their employees. And his move to go to market strategy a few years ago, it was really a great opportunity for him to be able to, again, step back from looking at individual brands or individual opportunities and look at more holistically, how can Verint help all brands, how can Verint help all of their customers really help deliver better customer service, better agents, and employee experiences, and without sounding too, too corny, but really, really help people. What is Verint and What Do You Do? Me: Now, could you also tell our listeners, what is Verint? And what does Verint do? Dave shared that Verint is the customer engagement company, and they're focused on helping brands elevate customer experience while also reducing costs and improving efficiency. So, the core problem in the market they set out to solve is something they call The Engagement Capacity Gap. So, if you think about it, customers, consumers, their expectations are going up and up and up and up all the time as there are more channels, more modalities, more ways that consumers can interact with brands, their expectations, the number of contacts go up, and their expectations go up. One of the things he thinks is really interesting is that people are now expecting online speed of service in the real world. So an example he uses a lot is, it's different on the experience, if you go to a store, you see something you like maybe it's the colour you want is out of stock, or the price is too high. So you can scan it on your phone, and have it delivered for an online retailer before you get home. So, that kind of intersection of the real world and the digital world drives incredible expectations increase. And the problem brands have is that they have relatively flat budgets and resources to meet these expectations, that's incredibly hard. So, what Verint does is delivers they call “CX Automation Capabilities or Customer Experience Automation”, ways they can help the employees of brands meet these expectations without having to do exponential increases in hiring. So, what they do is they help their customers engage better with their consumers to meet their expectations in the most efficient and productive and deliver great experiences across the board. Overarching Themes or Pain Points that Your Customers Have Challenges With Me: Based on your experience, Dave, in the customer engagement space and the different customers that you work with, what would you say are maybe two or three overarching themes or pain points that your customers predominantly have challenges with as it relates to closing that engagement gap? Dave shared that he looks at from one pain point any two dimensions. One is, from the customer perspective, it's interesting, the common belief used to be channel switching is bad, you should deal with customers and solve their problem with a channel they first reach out on. But that's changing, customers and consumers want to change channels at their own direction, right. So, you may start with an email then flip to chat, then call in, then follow up of an email, that's fine, that's how consumers want to interact, especially since all of those channels now land on your smartphone, it's not like you're moving to a different device per channel. And that creates a real challenge for brands to be able to manage all these channels in a completely seamless way so that customers aren't repeating themselves every time they connect. And then on the flip side, the challenge for employees is, theme probably come up a few times here is great employee experiences are necessary for great customer experiences. If your employees are disengaged and stressed out and don't have the tools they need, then they're poor experience is going to just seem is going to translate to poor customer experiences. So, he thinks brands really struggle with how do you manage the customer need for seamless interaction and continuity of interaction across channels, while also providing the engagement, the tools and the experiences for their employees that allow them to deliver great experiences to customers when they interact. Things an Organization Needs to Focus on to Set Themselves Apart From the Competition and Supersede Their Customers' Expectations Me: Now Dave, we are basically closing out 2023 and we're embarking on a new calendar year, lots of things happening across different industries throughout the globe. What do you think are maybe two things if your clients came to you and said, “Dave, as the subject matter expert in this area, where do you think we need to be putting our focus for 2024 to kind of set ourselves apart from the competition and really be able to supersede our customers' expectations?” “What would those two things be based on your experience, as well as maybe what the data is actually telling you?” Dave shared that there's a couple of things, they're both related. He would classify 2023 as the year of experimenting with AI, Gen AI and Chat GPT, and Open AI, all that really hit the world in a big way, Novemberish of 2022. And through this year, a lot of brands are experimenting with how do we use this to deliver better content, deliver better answers, support our customers better, but it's very much been a year of experimentation. He thinks 2024 is the year where that has to get operationalized. Brands need to look at, “Okay, we've experimented with this for year, we've done some trials, next year is the year to make that drive value for us.” is one thing. The second thing, he thinks this is really important. And this is core to the ethos of a Verin is think about employee and human augmentation, not replacement. So, for a long time, there's been this belief or this talk track that, “Hey, if we get the right Chatbots and the right RPA and the right tech in place, we won't need people anymore, we can automate that away.” And he doesn't believe the data shows us, that's not the case. There are things that humans are better at than machines, at a certain level of complexity and value and emotional importance, humans want to speak to humans. So, he thinks the focus of AI and automation, and we're very focused is our delivery of CX automation is really around human augmentation, because that gives the employees the power and the great experience that lets them help customers in a better way. So, 2024 is going to be the year of getting value from AI versus experimenting and pivoting from human replacement to human augmentation with CX automation. App, Website or Tool that Dave Absolutely Can't Live Without in His Business When asked about online resource that he can't live without in his business, Dave shared that there is so many, for them he'd say broadly it's access to knowledge that comes in a few different ways. So, it's the ability to do research on the internet in general and is to get access to broad information. And he thinks right now, looking at some of the Gen AI and the rag tools that let us turn that information into knowledge to get answers faster. So really, for him, it's all about getting to answers, so any of the any of the online tools that allows for knowledge retrieval quickly. And again, we have knowledge management solutions and wiki solutions, things like that. But to him, it's all about access to knowledge and answers quickly. Books that Have Had the Biggest Impact on Dave When asked about books that have had a great impact, Dave shared that Outside In: The Power of Putting Customers at the Center of Your Business by Harley Manning is a great book, it's a classic that always reminds us to focus, look at things from the customer perspective, and design our solutions and our tools, our processes, from the point of view of the customer, not the point of view of what we as a company, or we as a brand want to do. That's one of being pivotal in how he thinks about things. Another one that he thinks is great just from a business strategy book is What Got You Here Won't Get You There: How Successful People Become Even More Successful by Marshall Goldsmith. So again, it reminds us that things change, that things change increasingly quickly. So, we always have to be evaluating our strategies and our approaches and our solutions to adapt to where we are right now and where we want to get to. And just because a pattern worked for us last year, doesn't mean it's going to work this year, doesn't mean throw it away. But you just can't have that assumption that doing the same thing over and over again, is going to keep having the same results going forward. So, he would just look at those two and ones he read both a while ago, but come back to all the time, the focus on customer perspective first and always evaluate are your strategies effective right now? Not were they effective last year is really important. What Dave is Really Excited About Now! When asked about something that he's really excited about, Dave stated that first he's going to share something completely unbusiness related, personal that he's excited about that he'll bring it back. So, his daughter just started college this year and he's really excited to watch that process of her learning and growing and moving from a kid in high school to a to a young woman in college and getting ready to meet the world. So, he thinks it's first aside from the fact he's just so proud of her, it's just really exciting to watch and remember what that development looks like and feels like and how to take that forward. The other thing if anyone has seen him on video sometimes, his office, he has martial arts weapons all over his office, he's been training that for a while. He's currently training for his next rank, which is exciting for him personally. But one of the core concepts in martial arts is something called beginner's mind, which says no matter how advanced or experienced you get, you can never forget that you're always the beginner at something. There's always more to learn about the basics. And every time he looks at training for a level or a promotion, it reminds him when he comes back to work that, “Hey, I always have more to learn, right. There's always something to pick up from even things I've done 1000 times.” So again, he thinks that's a really important mindset going forward. And it's something he reinforced with his teams all the time is, just because you think you know, doesn't mean you know. Just because you're good at something doesn't mean you couldn't be better. Just because someone does something differently in the way you do it doesn't mean it's worse, it just means it's different, it's something to learn from that. So, he thinks bringing that concept of beginner's mind back and keeping that, it keeps you humble, and keeps you open to getting better every day. Me: Yeah, those are really good points. Awesome. Where Can We Find Dave Online Website - www.verint.com LinkedIn - https://www.linkedin.com/company/verint X - @Verint Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/verint LinkedIn – David Singer Quote or Saying that During Times of Adversity Dave Uses When asked about a quote or saying that he tends to revert to, Dave shared that it's not so much a quote but he just believe there's always a path forward. “And just because you don't see the path in front of you right this second, doesn't mean it's not there.” So, for him, when things get tough, he just remember that just because he doesn't see the path right now, doesn't mean if he doesn't take two steps forward, he's going to break through the trees, it's going to be right there. So, holding on to that fact is how he gets through adversity or when times maybe aren't turning the way he thinks they are. Me: So, there's always a path forward. Alright, thank you so much for sharing Dave. Sachin Patel and Dr. Buddy Touchinsky discuss a range of topics relating to functional medicine, self-care practices, being supported and mentored, mentoring and coaching others, and personal growth. Dr. Touchinsky is creating a direct primary care functional medicine practice that is independent of insurance, and while it is breaking new ground, it is very tough going. He is making a difference in his small-town Pennsylvania community. Listen in for counsel on showing up even in the hard times. You never know who will stand up to support you if you ask for help. Key Takeaways: [1:03] Sachin welcomes listeners to today's episode! This is a special interview with Sachin's friend, Dr. Buddy Touchinsky. Sachin and Dr. Buddy went to chiropractic school together. They are also both functional medicine practitioners and entrepreneurs trying to innovate in the healthcare space! Today, they talk about mentorship! [3:00] When Dr. Buddy Touchinsky came out of chiropractic college, he didn't know what he didn't know. Coaching at the time consisted of expensive practice management companies with rigid programs. [4:14] At first, Sachin wanted to do things his way. Asking for help was seen as a sign of weakness. Sachin recalls how his mother would just assume he knew how to do everything. Now, he believes it's always great to get help from people who are just a few steps ahead of us. [5:54] Sachin hired Dr. David Singer, went to one of his trainings, and was hooked on the idea of being held accountable. If it wasn't for training on how to charge for a package of care, Dr. Patel might still be charging visit-by-visit. That tool changed his belief in himself. [6:59] Dr. Touchinsky tells of his first experiences charging for a package of care. He discounted his services to get more patients. He had some success and noticed that the patients were there to get better. They had buy-in. [8:25] It was a big milestone for Sachin to be able to attract the right person, who is investing in themselves, and trusting and investing in you to get them where they want to go with their health. [9:02] Dr. Touchinsky came out of chiropractic college ready to work on sports injuries, back injuries, and spinal manipulation. He noticed that patients with back pain usually had more health issues. Before he heard of functional medicine, he started to dabble in it. He picked up Integrative Orthopedics: Integrative, Nutritional, Botanical and Manipulative Therapeutics, by Dr. Alex Vasquez and studied the science in it. [10:25] About five years into his practice, Dr. Touchinsky saw he was overweight and felt out of shape so he did a metabolic reset. In 21 days he lost 21 pounds, was sleeping better, thinking more clearly, getting his files done on time, and feeling better. [11:21] Dr. Touchinsky decided to test out the reset on a small group of patients. He picked a cohort of five people that he put on a program. They all got great results, too. He wanted to get this program to more people, so he dove into functional medicine, and signed up for FMU. About halfway through, he still wanted to know how to spread his influence to the masses. [11:59] Then Dr. Touchinsky saw an old classmate, Dr. Patel!. Sachin was talking about all the things Dr. Touchinsky wanted to hear about and that people needed to hear. Dr. Touchinsky got together with Dr. Patel to learn more and became an active member and now, a coach, in Dr. Patel's community. [13:21] Others have helped Dr. Touchinsky along the way, including local Rotary and other group meetings. He finds that everybody he meets has got something going on. You see all the smiles on social media, but meeting people, you see into their real lives. Nobody's perfect and we all work through our stuff. [17:13] Sachin says joining groups is always a great reminder that everyone's human. We all go through stuff, and we can help each other, either to prepare for going through it or because we've been through it. Never struggle alone. Join a group like Perfect Practice or another group of like-minded people. [18:26] Sachin thinks of a mentorship or a coaching program as a time machine. Join a group of six 29-year-olds and you've got 180 years of life experience and thousands of experiences these people have been through. You're tapping into that. With all the wisdom others have poured into them, you have essentially an infinite reservoir of knowledge and wisdom. [20:15] Dr. Touchinsky also has a health food store, and a metabolic reset group. Now he is shifting into direct primary care. COVID-19 shut down the functional medicine and chiropractic practice for a few weeks and then they opened up slowly. [21:51] The shutdown gave them more time to think about alternative ways of helping people if you can't see them in person. Dr. Touchinsky tried James Maskell's The Community Cure, and a test group in 2020 went well. Groups are powerful. Dr. Touchinsky wants to get more people back in person. [24:02] Dr. Touchinsky started a functional medicine family practice that is more proactive care, building healthy habits, than reactive and community-centred. [27:32] Dr. Touchinsky hired a consultant to help him set up a direct primary care functional medicine practice but this is a new business model! Dr. Touchinsky is creating his own thing. Having a coach and mentors helped. Without them and his self-care, he may not have made it. Now he can move forward to better things and grow his practice. [30:01] Sachin compares a mentor to a personal trainer. The trainer spots you while you lift, but you have to do the work and lift the weight, but the trainer gives you the 5% lift to make it. Carrying a bigger load is where the growth takes place. Mentors and the community give an emotional lift. [31:39] If you don't show up, even when it's toughest and you don't want to show up, you don't get the support and you won't make it through. Sachin says vulnerability is a superpower! It's the stepping stone to the next level of your personal character development. [33:59] Sachin cites Simon Sinek, “You will be shocked at who and how many people will come to your rescue if you simply ask for help.” People are waiting in the woodwork to jump in and be supportive of others. People don't aspire to be perfect, they aspire to be human and vulnerability is part of the human experience. [36:57] Advice to any who are struggling and feel alone: Step back and look at the big picture. Remember the people you've helped. Be with your family. Keep showing up and plugging into your groups, and get help. Self-care. Keep investing in yourself. Keep going to the sauna and exercising. Get your sleep. Stay hydrated. Eat healthily. [41:48] Sachin has taken a cold shower every day this year, and every day, he still dreads it but he feels good afterward. In the cold shower, Sachin practices slow, steady, box breathing, and rotating in the shower with each four-second breath in, hold, breath out, and hold. [43:05] Dr. Touchinsky's professional goal is to prove that there's a model for healthcare that is fun, exciting, and relaxing for the providers, and that benefits the patients as well. He explains how patients access his direct primary care model that does not rely on or use insurance. [45:22] Dr. Touchinsky's personal goal is to set these practices up in a way where he has plenty of time for his family and himself. He and his wife are going to Italy soon, and he'd like to travel more often and invest more money in experiences with his family rather than material things. [46:39] Sachin thanks Dr. Touchinsky for his time today and being a member, council member, and coach at Perfect Practice. He invites Dr. Touchinsky to share his closing thoughts. [47:23] Dr. Touchinsky shares his blue-collar background and says none of this would be possible without seeing what others are doing for him through groups and mentorship. [49:26] Sachin signs off with a definition of LUCK: leveraging and understanding critical knowledge. If you can leverage and understand critical knowledge, you're LUCKy! Dr. Touchinsky is a chiropractor and functional medicine practitioner with a focus on creative solutions and innovative methods to help people solve their problems and maximize their health. It was in his chiropractic practice that missing links within the full health of an individual became apparent. Many of the patients he treated were dealing with issues caused by poor diet, lack of exercise, inadequate sleep, and other lifestyle-related factors that the traditional healthcare system was not addressing. Intro.(1:39) - Start of interview.(2:15) - About UC Hastings and the Center for Business Law [that we are building together!](5:10) - Jared's "origin story": he grew up in Michigan, attended the U. of Michigan (BA political science) and Columbia Law School (JD). A book on the bankruptcy of Marvel Comics led him to bankruptcy law and practice. After graduation he joined Brown Rudnick in NYC ('07-'11). He later joined academia as a Teaching Fellow and Lecturer in Law in Corporate Governance & Practice at Stanford Law School ('11-'14). He joined the UC Hastings Faculty in 2014.(9:38) - Start of discussion about his latest article The Rise of Bankruptcy Directors: "Traditionally bankruptcy is about a court process, not a board process." But his research shows that the boardroom increased its prominence in bankruptcy starting in about 2012-2013, where many distressed companies, especially those controlled by private equity sponsors, prepared for bankruptcy by appointing independent directors (which they call "bankruptcy directors") to their boards of directors with the power to make key bankruptcy decisions.(13:03) - On the new cohort of "bankruptcy directors" and the parallels with venture capital and Silicon Valley [Their dataset consists of the boards of directors of 528 firms and the 2,895 individuals who collectively hold 3,038 directorships at firms in bankruptcies from 2004-2019]: "The change is that a practice that was once relatively uncommon has become ubiquitous and a central and standard part of the process of preparing for a Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing, leading to the growth of an industry of professional bankruptcy directors who fill this new demand for bankruptcy experts on the board of distressed firms."(15:08) - On the question of fiduciary duty of loyalty and conflicts of interests of bankruptcy directors (particularly regarding the private equity controlling owners) and the emergence of "super-repeater directors".(16:38) - The example of the Nine-West bankruptcy.(21:34) - Whether bankruptcy judges will incorporate some standards such as those used (for example) by the Delaware Chancery Court on the independence of directors, board conflicts and the decision-making process of the board.(23:02) - On his finding that unsecured creditors recovered 21% less when a bankruptcy director is appointed. On the lucrative new bankruptcy director role.(26:04) - On his proposal that the court regard bankruptcy directors as independent only if creditors support their appointment.(29:03) - "The elevation of the board is an important (new) trend in the bankruptcy process." "The Board is going to play a more central part in bankruptcies."(31:52) - On the current growth of the economy and deal-making despite pandemic, and projected bankruptcies. "It's caught all of us by surprise." "It just shows you that Washington can change the rules on Wall Street on they want to." On the Hertz bankruptcy.(34:49) - His thoughts on the next trends in bankruptcies: "I think we are going to continue to see the democratization of the bankruptcy process." "Bankruptcy is less of a black box today and retail investors are becoming bigger players (the participation of normal people in Chapter 11 is a trend that we are going to see continue."(36:46) - On bankruptcy forum shopping. "This issue goes back to the 1990s, and we will continue to see a concentration of bankruptcy cases in the hands of a few judges."(38:53) - On his advocacy to increase the number of bankruptcy judges (in response to Covid-19).(40:17) - The books that have greatly influenced his life:Comic Wars (2002), by Dan Raviv. The Strategy of Conflict (1981), by Thomas Shelling. The Selfish Gene (1990), by Richard Dawkins.Germs, Guns and Steel (1997), by Jared Diamond.(41:30) - His mentors:J.David Singer, Professor at U. of Michigan.Jeffrey Fagan, Professor at Columbia Law School.Edward Morrison, Professor at Columbia Law School.Robert Stark, Brown Rudnick.Michael Klausner, Professor at Stanford Law School.George Triantis, Professor at Stanford Law School.Kenneth Ayotte, Professor at Berkeley Law School.(43:23) - His favorite quote: Benjamin Disraeli on William Gladstone: "He had only one idea, and it was wrong.”Jared A. An early favorite for my 2021 “best of” list is David Singer & the Sweet Science's new album, “Vicious Kicks.” After years of exemplary songwriting, David has outdone himself with this new release. David and I met at Roma's on the northwest side for Italian beef. I went with the Atomic Combo, seeing as it includes a Hot Doug's sausage. David is a very dry, very funny guy to chat with. I think you'll like this interview. Car Con Carne is sponsored by Siren Records McHenry

Brady welcomes Randy Gore to the podcast and they talk about his upbringing in the Pittsburgh suburb of McKeesport, Pennsylvania. Randy talks about growing up a Pirates/Steelers/Penguins fan. In fact, he was born in 1979 when the Pirates and Steelers had won world championships in during that calendar year. Randy attended and graduated from Waynesburg University (https://waynesburgsports.com) where he majored in Communications with an emphasis on Sports Broadcasting. He describes the practical experience he gained at Waynesburg, first learning production work before getting a chance to broadcast games for the Yellow Jackets student-run production. Very similar to Brady’s training at Northern Kentucky University (https://nkunorse.com), Waynesburg provided a student-run television production for the athletic department under the supervision of the professors. Once he became an upper classman, Randy earned a talent position on the Waynesburg broadcasts. Randy interned as a college student for the Pittsburgh Penguins (https://www.nhl.com/penguins/). On game nights he was part of the crew that executes the in-game entertainment segments. Among other things, on non-game nights he did things such as log file footage of highlight clips to be used at a later time for things such as hype-videos and sponsor video. Interns from the Penguins were also able to work as production assistants for ESPN and FOX coverage of Penguins playoff games. Once Randy graduated from Waynesburg he bounced around as a freelance prouduction worker in the Pittsburgh area before landing a job at WJPA Radio (https://wjpa.com) (95.3 FM, 1450AM) in Washington, Pennsylvania. At WJPA, Randy started as a producer and board operator before landing his first on-air opportunity in the news department as a Saturday morning weekend reporter. Randy talks about the early struggles breaking into broadcasting when its hard to earn a living and how his parents were supportive of his pursuit of chasing the dream even when times and money were both lean. Randy was able to earn more opportunities and gain full-time employment at WJPA. He thanks Operations Manager and Sports Director Bob Gregg for having the confidence in him in order to gain more sports experience. WJPA was the flagship station for the Washington Wild Things (https://www.washingtonwildthings.com) of the Frontier League (https://frontierleague.com) and in 2005 Randy becomes the team’s play-by-play broadcaster. The first road trip for the Wild Things that season was to Chillicothe and Evansville which were both long standing franchises in the Frontier League. Randy talks about the most important thing for a baseball play-by-play broadcaster which is the relationship that needs to be developed with the team’s field manager. Randy was lucky enough to start with John Massarelli as the Wild Things skipper who was happy to show him the ropes. The discussion turns to being in the tough position of describing a mistake made by a player and not upsetting his family who is at home listening. Randy talks about going through the process of exploring other baseball opportunities but ultimately staying with the Wild Things for 11 seasons which is a long tenure in the Frontier League. What would be a conversation about minor league baseball without discussing the long bus rides and trips. Randy does protect the innocent by not going into seedy details but does refer to it as some of the best times of his life. Despite all of the success, after the 2007 off-season was a bit of a turning point for him in his broadcasting career. Feeling the need to find a job with a pension and more secure insurance benefits, Randy applies for a job with his father’s company. He did not get job which kept in broadcasting full-time and shortly thereafter he enjoyed the best success of his career up to that point. Randy, who was a two-time Frontier League Broadcaster of the Year (2008 and 2011) and he tells the story about learning that he won the award for the first time. He also won three Associated Press awards in 2008 through his work at WJPA. In 2010, Randy joins the North Allegheny Sports Network (athletics.northallegheny.org). Randy was previously working for the company part-time which was founded by Don Vandergrift. Randy was hired full-time by athletic director and former Wild Things manager Bob Bozzuto after Vandergriff’s tragic passing in 2010. A year later, Randy along with Justin Pyles and David Singer create to PAC Network (pacstream.net). The venture starts out with a basketball game of the week in the Presidents' Athletic Conference (https://pacathletics.org) and grew to broadcasting other sports including conference championship tournaments. Brady joined the PAC Sports Network in 2015 making cameo appearances along with Randy when Thomas More would host conference championship tournaments. Some of the talking points include the 2016 baseball championship when Randy had to go back home to see his ailing mother and Brady has to broadcast the final game with PAC Commissioner Joe Onderko filling the role as producer. The softball championships were usually held the weekend of the Kentucky Derby. With Thomas More (https://www.thomasmoresaints.com/landing/index) hosting this gave Randy a unique opportunity to watch the Kentucky Derby while in the state of Kentucky which the local take for granted. Randy also tells a funny story about coming to Cincinnati with his wife to watch his beloved Pirates and a wild brawl breaks out. To close out the podcast Randy reveals that in celebration of the 10th season of the PAC Sports Network (whenever that can happen thanks to COVID-19) he will release a highlight video. The video will have some of the best moments in PAC Sports Network history. Season 2 Episode 12 - Wildlife and Transportation with TRCP’s Ed Arnett and the Colorado Wildlife and Transportation Alliance On this episode of Talking Mule Deer, Steve and Jodi are talking with Ed Arnett with the Theodore Roosevelt Conservation Partnership and David Singer with the Colorado Department of Transportation and the Colorado Wildlife and Transportation Alliance. We learn a little bit about the organizations before diving into the work happening on issues related to wildlife/vehicle collisions and road ecology. The TRCP hosted a workshop in January, co-sponsored by a number of other organizations including MDF, that was inspired by Secretarial Order 3362 on big game migration corridors. The meeting brought together key players in conservation organizations, state fish and wildlife agencies, and state and federal transportation agencies. This meeting helped to bring in existing knowledge related to wildlife and transportation issues and talk through what can be done to improve planning to help ensure wildlife is able to continue to move through traditional migration corridors that might be fragmented by highways. We talk about how MDF members and chapters could get engaged on transportation issues by working with local and state governments early in the planning process for highway development. Ed tells us about how planning, design and fencing are the keys to improve designs to allow wildlife crossings – and just wait to hear the statistics for how big an impact wildlife/vehicle collisions have on the car insurance industry! We wrap up by talking about what’s on the horizon and how interested individuals can get more information at the TRCP workshop home page and the Colorado Wildlife and Transportation Alliance webpages.

At the Parker Seminar in January in Las Vegas in front of an audience of more than 3000, Dr. Singer received the Lifetime Achievement Award. This most prestigious award is granted to those doctors who have dedicated their lives to the furthering of the Chiropractic Profession and have given generously to help their fellow chiropractors. Dr. Singer graduated Chiropractic School in 1972 from what was then Columbia Institute of Chiropractic which went on to become New York Chiropractic College. Dr. Singer, in 1972, because of his practice success, became a regular speaker at Parker Seminar delighting his audience with his humorous and practical explanations on how to boom one's practice. In 1981, his practice took off like a rocket with nearly 50 new patients per week and a total of over a thousand visits a week in 9 months. He then entered the world of Chiropractic Consulting. For the last 33 years he has traveled over 6 million miles to help Chiropractors succeed in practice from Australia to Italy. His company has helped nearly one thousand clinics per year for 33 years to get more new patients, educate them better and earn more income. During this period of time he delivered over 10,000 seminars and teleconference. He and his company appeared twice on the INC. 500 list of the fastest growing privately owned companies in America. What most people do not know is that he has assisted in the opening of over 200 upper cervical clinics worldwide, brought spinal decompression to America, helped name Care Credit and brought it to the Chiropractic Profession. He was chosen as the Chiropractor who most influenced the finances of Chiropractic by the subscribers of Chiropractic Economics Magazine over two decades ago. He created the Patient Appreciation Procedure that in California, with his permission, became project HOPE or Help Other People Eat. He created the Stress Survey now commonly in use and taught how to conduct Stress Screening and other outside lecture techniques as early as 1979. One of his proudest achievements is his creation of The Foundation for Wellness Professional, a federally approved Non-Profit Organization that has the same tax exempt status as the Red Cross. It now provides Wellness Programs for Chrysler USA, Amtrak, Verizon Phone Company, and through its volunteer network of Chiropractors and other Health Professionals over 10,000 workshops, lectures, stress screenings, etc. each year. He is considered the Obi-Wan Kenobi of purpose, the Einstein of New Patient Marketing and the creator of the best patient education systems for the promotion of long term lifetime care.

Learn How to Create Lasting Change by Breaking Down New Year’s Resolutions into Small Habits That You Can Achieve David Singer shares his insights on why people often fall short of their new years resolutions and how they can shift their approach to create the changes they seek. He also gives listeners a deep dive into the first two rules from his book, Six Simple Rules for a Better Life which are Be Happy and Be Nice. If you are like the average person, as 2012 wound down you began thinking about ways that you wanted 2013 to be different. Even if you did not label them as new years resolutions, chances are you thought of things like getting fit, eating healthier, quitting smoking, or watching less TV. What ever it was that you decided, it is also likely that you ran through a laundry list of things that you need to do to achieve your goal. Using eating healthier as an example, you tell yourself, “no more fried food, no more soda, no late night snacking, no chips, no cookies…only fruits, veggies and fish from here on out…” But after a couple of weeks, you are back to your old eating habits, indulging in forbidden foods and feeling bad about yourself for not sticking to your commitment. Are you a weak person? No, it is simply because attempting to make so many sweeping changes overloads your willpower and you end up back where you started. You see, we all have a limited amount of will power. It’s true. Neuroscience shows that the prefrontal cortex of the brain is responsible for willpower, focus, problem-solving and cognitive thought. When this part of the brain is overused it becomes fatigued and will power decreases exponentially. Think of it like muscle. If you went for a 7 mile jog, for example, then did three sets of squats with weights and then jumped rope, you would feel the strength in your legs drain away as fatigue set in. The same is true with the prefrontal cortex. So how does someone achieve a goal such as “eating healthier?” According to David Singer it is by breaking the goal into small chunks and focusing on only one behavior change at a time for a total of 21 days. Studies show that it takes 21 days to form a new habit and once a behavior is a habit it no longer requires will power. So instead of the general goal of eating healthier, commit to replacing your afternoon chocolate bar with a banana. Do this consistently for 21 days then pick another small change to make, such as replacing soda with water. The key is to really break the goal down into behaviors that you feel confident you can stick to. For example, if you currently drink five cans of soda a day and cutting all five out at once seems too overwhelming, opt to cut out one instead. Do this for 21 days then reduce your daily intake by one more for 21 days and so on. In just three and a half months, you will be soda-free! In terms of getting fit, if you currently are not exercising at all, committing to waking for 20 minutes three days week might be too much to take on. Instead, commit to walking for five minutes a day, three times a week. Do this consistently for three weeks (21 days) and then commit to walking six minutes a day, three times a week. Do this consistently for another three weeks and then go up to seven minutes and so on. While it may seem like at this rate you will never achieve your goal, in reality, by the end of the year you will be up to walking 20 minutes three days a week! Set yourself up for success! By breaking down each new years resolution into small chunks that you feel you can stick to for 21 days, your chances of succeeding increase incrementally. Interested in reading more?
