Remember that you can always get in touch with us on our Discord server, Facebook page, on Twitter, or with our Contact page. Can you believe that it's been 5 years since the Resident Evil 2 Remake came out? Neither could we, so we brought Nomad back onto the show to discuss it with us. Remember the "we do it" t-shirts? Remember the months of speculation? Remember that first time you booted the game? This is a sample of the full show notes - make sure to click here to check out the full show notes.Content WarningThere are a few swears in this episode, but none which should be too offensive. Please listen responsibly.Show NotesFrom active time battling to zombie slaying, waffling Taylors covers video games and beyond. In this episode, we are joined by OG Waffler and long-time friend of the show Lulu to to talk about the anniversary of Final Fantasy eight on the PS one. In this episode, we cover everything from triple triad addiction, bazooka abuse and the original Selphie. So without further ado, sit back, grab some snacks, and get ready for this episode entitled "Resident Evil 2 Remake with Nomad - The Spirit Is Strong, But The Ammo Is Scarce."Take it away guys.— SquidgeThat's right! This episode is all about Final Fantasy VIII. Some say that it's the black sheep, or weird middle child of the group of 90's J-RPGs created by SquareSoft for the PlayStation; but, as you'll find out in this episode, it's the favourite of both Jay and Lulu—with Final Fantasy IX in a very close second for everyone in the episode. All that set up and Jay fumbled at the 10 yard line:You have once again stepped into the world of survival, horror, et cetera, et cetera, because I can't think of anything funny to say.— SquidgeThis time, the lads were joined by Nomad of The Retro Wildlands—someone who seems to be on the show talking about Resident Evil a lot, and he is loved very much for it.But before the show could start properly, Jay asked Nomad to introduce his show:So, for those of you listening, I have my own podcast, and I call it The Retro Wildlands. And the whole premise: I'm going back and playing some older video games that maybe I played when I was a kid, or maybe I missed out on them and I'm playing them for the first time as an adult. So my show is kind of me talking about those games and my experiences. But as I've evolved over time, my show has kind of turned into I'm taking the listener through the game itself, maybe the opening level, let's say, and I'll try to bring back some of those nostalgic tinglies, if you will, using music and sound effects and things like that. But if you've never played that game before, this is a great way to learn about a game that maybe you want to dabble in and don't want to dive in headfirst. You want someone to tell you kind of how it is, and that's what I do.So the Retro Wildlands is available on all the major pod platforms. I made a link tree. linktr.ee/retrowildlands will get you to all our social links.I say "our," but it's just me. Me and my dog Dee Dee's.— NomadInitial Thoughts on The RemakeBefore any deep dive conversation, it's always a good idea to get a starting position, and that's what Jay wanted to know:I originally played it as soon as it came out. I don't pre-order games very often, but I pre-ordered the remake. I was enamoured with it. I played the original a ton when I was a kid. Probably shouldn't have if mom had her way. But, it was an amazing experience, and I knew the remake, for better or worse, was something I wanted. But I was very pleasantly surprised with how amazing that game was. And we're certainly going to get into it today. But I replayed the game start to finish twice when I knew that we were going to get together and talk about the game. And I was very excited to dive back into that world, and I was very happy with how everything stood the test of time. Granted, it was only five years, but "fresh" is probably the best word, I think so. I think people, even though this game is five years old at this point, if you go into this experience now, it's going to be just like when it first launched.Fresh, new, exciting. Mwah. Chef's kiss— NomadAnd Squidge:All I can say about it is: I played it on release. But I played it, I think I had the day off when it was coming out and I finished preloading it at midnight, because it was on Steam. And I played it in the dark on hardcore mode. That was a big mistake.Ever since that night, I still stand by this. What I'm about to say is, "Mr. X, you're a prick." That sums up Resident Evil two pretty nicely: dude's a prick.— SquidgeBecause Squidge had brought up Mr. X, and how he'd modded the original model out for both the Goose from Untitled Goose Game and the Macho Man Randy Savage, it was only right that Jay brought up the short series of episodes which were recorded as Squidge made his way through the game. Those episodes are:Grenade to The Face! (recorded when Squidge was 25% through the game)Ada Wait! (recorded when Squidge was 50% through the game)The Fall of Mr. X (recorded when Squidge was 100% through the game)Jay goes on to talk about how the RE Engine ("Reach for the Moon Engine") hasn't just been used for the Resident Evil remakes, it's also been used on several other titles like DmC: Devil May Cry. And for those who are interested in finding out about the (deeply) technical (as in programming) details of the engine, Jay brought up a talk from one of devs the team about what upgrading to C# ("See Sharp") 8: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tDUY90yIC7UFor those who don't know, Jay produces and hosts The Modern .NET Show, so he's always looking into things relating to both C# and .NET. Because of this, the video not only piqued his interest but blew him away. The video is entirely in Japanese, but there are English subtitles so you can follow along if you'd like.(quoting the video) "We moved to this version of the tooling, which is a later version, to build the engine and it's become a whole bunch faster and stuff."Which means they've released patches for Devil May Cry remake, Resident Evil 2 remake, Resident Evil 3, that makes it use less power or is more efficient, things like that. So they haven't actually done anything. They've just updated the tools that they use, which is pretty damn cool.— JayAnd, of course, Jay brings up the question that's on everyone's mindsDino Crisis remake in RE Engine when?— JayFull Show NotesMake sure...

Both handheld consoles have plenty going for them in specs, price, and availability, as well as playability. While both consoles have some significant differences, they are both meant to be handheld PCs. While the platforms don't replace the desktop or laptop experience, they greatly improve portability! Andy was able to test a handful of games on both devices: Diablo 4, DMC Devil May Cry, Rocket League, and Stardew Valley. All of the games performance were totally acceptable for such a device, and proved that this is a segment of the gaming space that's viable and has some serious potential to grow.  While both handhelds offered pleasant gaming experiences, we've gotta give the crown to the Steam Deck. First and foremost, battery life goes hands-down to the Steam Deck. And while the ROG Ally provides a full-featured version of Windows, Windows might be the biggest pitfall between the two handhelds. While having a familiar operating system in your hands certainly has its positives, SteamOS is very capable, and feels more thought-out than just slapping Windows on a handheld. Check out the podcast for more thoughts on the devices, and a more thorough discussion! Voidingo - A vividly animated action roguelite focused on boss hunting. This is Thys (Thijs de Vlieger): DJ, producer and composer from the north of the Netherlands. His DJ sets are a reflection of a two-decade-long musical course. With razor- sharp and unexpected mixing, he seamlessly blends a multitude of bass heavy genres. Creating energetic waves, not afraid to make bold leaps, but never losing sight of the groove. When producing club music De Vlieger loves to mix up BPMS and moods. His recent “Shoulder To Shoulder” EP is a clear statement of intent in that regard: a love letter to club music and the intuitive feeling of togetherness that loud music in a dark room can unlock for us. But when writing music in a more “composer” role, the range stretches even wider: Repeated collaborations with Amon Tobin, a short film for Iris Van Herpen with renowned harpist Lavinia Meijer (Biomimicry), a feature film with Salvador Breed (Mycelia; unreleased at the time of writing), three scores for contemporary dance performances, writing for full symphonic orchestra and classical ensembles, and an album composed for church organ, cello and viola, with the organ recorded by De Vlieger himself (unreleased): Thys will not be tied down to one sound or genre. As a member of widely recognised electronic music trio Noisia, Thys has toured the world for decades, has collaborated with and remixed a range of top tier artists like The Prodigy and Skrillex, and scored for AAA videogames such as DMC: Devil May Cry and Motorstorm: Apocalypse. Let's rock, baby! Season 6 of Video Gameography gets stylish as we examine the Devil May Cry series! Over the next few weeks, we'll be covering the history and lore of Capcom's premiere action franchise. Today we examine the franchise's boldest, most divisive, but arguably strongest entry yet in DmC Devil May Cry. Desiring to shake up the series, Capcom turned to British studio Ninja Theory to reboot and reimagine Devil May Cry. Encouraged by the publisher to be as wildly creative as possible, the team behind Heavenly Sword and Enslaved: Odyssey to the West dreamed up a grittier version of Dante who inhabits Limbo City, a world existing in parallel with the demonic realm. This relationship spectacularly manifests in the city itself coming to life, shifting its buildings and roads to hinder and assault the demon slayer. Sporting jet black hair and the ability to tap into angelic and demonic powers, this new vision of Dante garnered heaps of vitriol from fans who saw DmC as too drastic of a departure, despite the game launching to rave reviews. In this episode, we'll examine how DmC came to be, the role Capcom played in the game's wildest ideas, Hideaki Itsuno's reaction to the project, the backlash Ninja Theory endured, and give our overall impressions of the narrative and gameplay. Join hosts Marcus Stewart (@MarcusStewart7), former GI editor John Carson (@John_Carson), and with special guest Bob Buel (@bobbbackwards) of the 99 Questions podcast as we unpack and pay respects to Ninja Theory's memorable stab at Devil May Cry. He got his start in games at Ninja Theory, during the pre-production phase of Heavenly Sword. Ricky's work quickly became the benchmark of quality within the company, where he spent over 10 years honing his skill as a combat, creature and action cinematic animator. Creating high quality content was one half of his responsibility there, the other was mentoring the team to achieve their very best.

Welcome to Xbox Game Passengers. Every other Wednesday, host Derek and a guest will dissect and discuss just one game available on Microsoft’s Xbox Game Pass service, which was chosen for them completely at random. Whether it’s a magical or a horrible experience, they’ll force themselves through it, share their thoughts, and let you know whether or not the game is worth your time! At the end of each episode, they’ll also randomly select the game for the following show. In this episode, Mike returns to break down 2017’s lauded adventure title, Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice. It’s a much different experience than either host expected and… they spend far too much time wondering if the world will ever see a sequel as they recorded this episode just days before Senua’s Saga was revealed. From the makers of Heavenly Sword, Enslaved: Odyssey to the West, and DmC: Devil May Cry, comes a warrior’s brutal journey into myth and madness. Set in the Viking age, a broken Celtic warrior embarks on a haunting vision quest into Viking Hell to fight for the soul of her dead lover. Created in collaboration with neuroscientists and people who experience psychosis, Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice will pull you deep into Senua’s mind. We’ve had a blast making Xbox Game Passengers so far, and we really hope that you’re enjoying it too! If you have any feedback for us, we’d love to hear it at derek@geekscape.net. Anything you listeners can do to help spread the word about the podcast would be immensely appreciated — from sharing it on social media like Facebook or Twitter, to leaving us five stars (or even a review) on Apple Podcasts, to sending it to a single friend, it can all make a massive difference! This week on The Save Room, the future of gaming is almost here, so throw out your consoles because they don't matter anymore. Google has finally announced its console-less cloud streaming platform, Stadia. Stadia boasts the ability to be streamed from any device and all from a controller that connects via wifi to an app while promising 8K resolution. ( Wha-whaaat?) The announcement which dropped at GDC 2019 left a lot of questions such as pricing, data caps, consistent experiences due to internet speeds, and what first party games will come down the line. It has spawned various conversations across the industry about the future of gaming and how we're inevitably heading towards a stream-only future. We also dish on how Sony ripped off Nintendo Directs with its new State of Play, get hyped on more Mortal Kombat 11 news, and Daniel loses his mind over Cuphead coming to the Switch. If you have the stomach for it and your ears don't hate us, then stick around for the tail end of the episode where you'll hear our thoughts on DmC: Devil May Cry, The Division 2, and of course, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. So tune in to find out how many times we've died at this point because it's definitely more than twice. (Spoilers: it's a lot).
