The Florida Panthers have taken a 2-0 lead in the Eastern Conference Final over the Carolina Hurricanes in absolutely dominating fashion. Roy, David, Rose, and Ethan are here to break it down, but before they get there, they touch on their wins and fails of the week, including Mark Scheifele's inspiring performance, a brave Panther fan walking through Toronto in a Brad Marchand jersey, and our dear friend Arda Öcal ending the Toronto Maple Leafs season. Then, Dmitri Filipovic of the Hockey PDOCast joins the boys to discuss where the Leafs and Winnipeg Jets go from here, the identity of the Edmonton Oilers, and why Eetu Luostarinen should win the Conn Smythe Trophy. Finally, the boys try to discuss the Eastern Conference Final but are de-railed by Rosey educating them about Hannah Montana. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

On today's edition of the Locked On FLORIDA Panthers Podcast, Armando Velez(@Mandoman12) brings in Jacob Winans(@JacobWinans8) to recap Florida's loss to the Boston Bruins at home by a final of 4-3 where Florida mostly lead until the final minutes of the third period. Florida set an early tone with creating many chances off the forecheck. Panthers felt Barkov's presence from the moment the puck dropped with him creating the first goal of the game for Evan Rodrigues. Sam Reinhart is now nine goals away from breaking the franchise record in goals after scoring late in the first. On that goal, Eetu Luostarinen got his 100th career point in the NHL. Neither team was able to dictate the pace with the physicality picking up in the second period. Although neither team got a shot on net until midway through the third, it was the Panthers who struck first in the frame with Carter Verhaeghe giving the Panthers the lead at 9:53. Although the Panthers are one of the best third period team in the NHL, the Boston Bruins scored two goals late in the third period to take the game in regulation and the Atlantic Division lead by two points with Florida having a game in hand. The two give their three stars of the game, when they thought this game was lost, and ask the question "The Panthers go as ____ goes." On today's edition of the Locked On FLORIDA Panthers Podcast, Armando Velez(@Mandoman12) brings in Jacob Winans(@JacobWinans8) for another edition of Winans Wednesday. Florida picks up a win in New Jersey by a score of 5-3 to sweep their three-game road trip. The Cats were on the second end of a back-to-back in the tri-state area. The New Jersey Devils were fresh off a coaching change, but the Panthers were up to the challenge getting two goals in the first 6:30 of the hockey game by Nick Cousins and Evan Rodrigues(PPG), Matthew Tkachuk had the primary assist on both of them. Nick Cousins would score later in the game to get his first multi-goal game of the season. Panthers never trailed in this one, but the Devils made a push in the second to tie it midway through the second frame. The tie did not last long as Eetu Luostarinen scored less than two minutes after Dmitry Kulikov got a stretch pass to Eetu Luostarinen in stride and scored as he waited for the shooting lane to open. Anthony Stolarz was between the pipes as he looked to build off his outstanding play on the road. Stolarz would stop 21 of 24 shots on the night. Florida went into shutdown mode that was reminiscent of Monday night at Madison Square Garden, they carried it over across the Hudson River. Sam Reinhart would add to his goal total by getting his 45th of the season on the empty-netter to ice the game and give the Panthers the two points. The guys give their three stars, when they thought this game was won, and provide the latest update on the trade deadline. There is a player out there who has Florida as his preferred destination. On today's edition of the Locked On FLORIDA Panthers Podcast, Armando Velez(@Mandoman12) brings in Jacob Winans(@JacobWinans8) for another edition of Winans Wednesday. The Panthers had an encouraging start to this game where they only allowed three shots on goal in the first period. Things started to tilt in period two, but with the Panthers getting two chances on the power play and having over a minute of zone time on a delayed penalty, the Panthers could not carry that momentum into the Power play as they had zero shots on goal. Head Coach Paul Maurice tried giving the team a spark by placing Matthew Tkachuk with Anton Lundell and Eetu Luostarinen? Do we see that line together to start Thursday's game in Vancouver? Things started to tilt in period two, but with the Panthers getting two chances on the power play and having over a minute of zone time on a delayed penalty, the Panthers could not carry that momentum into the Power play as they had zero shots on goal. Head Coach Paul Maurice tried giving the team a spark by placing Matthew Tkachuk with Anton Lundell and Eetu Luostarinen? Do we see that line together to start Thursday's game in Vancouver? We have a verdict on former Panthers Defenseman Erik Gudbranson after his altercation with current Panthers Forward Nick Cousins. Was the punishment too low or just right? The team was down 6-on-4 in the final minutes of the game and the Cats denied Pittsburgh from getting quality scoring chances in the third, where the Panthers only allowed two SOG prior to the Penguins bringing in the extra attacker. Thursday’s dramatic action was the culmination of an eight-month saga of high diplomacy and dashed hopes. WNBA – Griner freed: WNBA star swapped for Russian, heads home American basketball star Brittney Griner is heading home, freed from Russian prison in exchange for the U.S. releasing notorious Russian arms dealer Viktor Bout. Thursday’s dramatic action was the culmination of an eight-month saga of high diplomacy and dashed hopes. But the U.S. failed to win freedom for another American, Paul Whelan, jailed in Russia for nearly four years on espionage charges that his family and the U.S. government say are baseless. The swap comes at a time of heightened tensions over Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. And it has brought unprecedented attention to the number of what the U.S. considers wrongful detainees. NCAAMBKB – Men’s College Basketball Last Night Michigan 90, Minnesota 75 Michigan 90, Minnesota 75 – McDaniel shines in first start, Michigan eases by Minnesota Hunter Dickinson scored 19 points, freshman Dug McDaniel had 15 points and seven assists in his first start of the season and Michigan routed Minnesota 90-75. Michigan made its first five 3-pointers, led 24-9 after the opening eight minutes and extended it to 37-13. Minnesota used a 15-3 run to pull within 40-28 with 3:15 left in the first half but McDaniel ended Michigan’s nearly four minute scoring drought with a long 3-pointer and the Wolverines led 47-31 at the break. McDaniel scored nine of Michigan’s 17 points to start the second half for a 21-point lead. And Jett Howard scored five straight Michigan points during a 12-2 run for a 76-47 advantage. McDaniel shined in Michigan’s first game without guard Jaelin Llewellyn, who suffered a season-ending knee injury. Just two days after the Rams claimed Mayfield off waivers from Carolina, the former No. 1 pick went 22 of 35 for 230 yards and snapped the defending Super Bowl champions’ six-game losing streak in dramatic fashion. NCAAMBKB – Men's College Basketball Last Night Michigan 90, Minnesota 75 Michigan 90, Minnesota 75 – McDaniel shines in first start, Michigan eases by Minnesota Hunter Dickinson scored 19 points, freshman Dug McDaniel had 15 points and seven assists in his first start of the season and Michigan routed Minnesota 90-75. Michigan made its first five 3-pointers, led 24-9 after the opening eight minutes and extended it to 37-13. Minnesota used a 15-3 run to pull within 40-28 with 3:15 left in the first half but McDaniel ended Michigan's nearly four minute scoring drought with a long 3-pointer and the Wolverines led 47-31 at the break. McDaniel scored nine of Michigan's 17 points to start the second half for a 21-point lead. And Jett Howard scored five straight Michigan points during a 12-2 run for a 76-47 advantage. McDaniel shined in Michigan's first game without guard Jaelin Llewellyn, who suffered a season-ending knee injury. Just two days after the Rams claimed Mayfield off waivers from Carolina, the former No. 1 pick went 22 of 35 for 230 yards and snapped the defending Super Bowl champions' six-game losing streak in dramatic fashion. Josh Jacobs rushed for 99 yards and the only touchdown for the Raiders, whose three-game winning streak ended in humiliating fashion. The swap comes at a time of heightened tensions over Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. And it has brought unprecedented attention to the number of what the U.S. considers wrongful detainees. NBA – National Basketball Association Last Night Washington Wizards 120, Detroit Pistons 99 Wizards 120, Pistons 99 – Beal limited by back, but Wizards roll past Pistons 120-99 Kyle Kuzma scored 25 points, and the Washington Wizards overcame Bradley Beal’s back issues to beat the Detroit Pistons 120-99. Beal was limited to 21:49 because of back tightness, although he was able to return late in the third quarter after missing the entire second. The Wizards actually broke the game open without him and cruised to a lopsided victory. Kristaps Porzingis scored 20 points, Will Barton contributed 16 and Beal was able to finish with 13. Bojan Bogdanovic led Detroit with 25 points and Cade Cunningham added 19. Tonight Atlanta Hawks at Detroit Pistons, 7:00 p.m. Indiana Pacers at Chicago Bulls, 8:00 p.m. NBA – NBA, NBPA seeking more respectful tone at all levels of game The NBA and its players have announced a plan to encourage better and more respectful behavior within basketball, even at youth levels. It’s part of the league’s “Respect for the Game” initiative. The NBA has been using that term with players for nearly two decades, primarily hoping to foster more positive interactions between players and referees during games. WNBA – Russian court rejects Griner appeal of her 9-year sentence A Russian court has rejected an appeal by U.S. basketball star Brittney Griner of her nine-year prison sentence for drug possession, a step that could move her closer to a possible high-stakes prisoner swap between Moscow and Washington. The all-star center with the WNBA’s Phoenix Mercury and two-time Olympic gold medalist was convicted Aug. 4 after police said they found vape canisters containing cannabis oil in her luggage at a Moscow airport. Reflecting pressure on the U.S. administration to do more to bring Griner home, the U.S. secretary of state revealed in July that Washington had made a proposal to get Griner home, along with Paul Whelan, an American serving a 16-year sentence in Russia for espionage. NHL – National Hockey League Last Night New Jersey Devils 6, Detroit Red Wings 2 Chicago Blackhawks 4, Florida Panthers 2 Devils 6, Red Wings 2 – Bratt scores 2, Devils hand Wings first regulation loss, 6-2 Jesper Bratt had two goals and an assist as the New Jersey Devils beat the Detroit Red Wings 6-2. The Red Wings (3-1-2) were the last remaining team without a regulation loss. Blackhawks 4, Panthers 2 – Kane scores, Blackhawks hold off Panthers 4-2 for 4th in row Patrick Kane had a goal and an assist, and the streaking Chicago Blackhawks withstood Florida’s late push to beat the Panthers 4-2. Taylor Raddysh, Philipp Kurashev and Jonathan Toews also scored in the Blackhawks’ fourth straight victory after dropping their first two games of the season. Chicago overcame two-goal deficits in its previous three wins, but had to hold on against the Panthers in the final 10 minutes. Eetu Luostarinen and Matthew Tkachuk scored for the Panthers. Tkachuk’s goal, on a nifty mid-air deflection of Carter Verhaeghe’s point shot, closed the gap to 3-2 with 7:13 to play. Chicago goalie Alex Stalock, stopped 29 shots. MLB – Tigers hire Rays’ Rob Metzler as VP, assistant GM The Detroit Tigers have hired Tampa Bay scouting director Rob Metzler as vice president and assistant general manager. Metzler spent 15 seasons with the Rays, working the past seven years as the team’s senior director of amateur scouting. He will lead the Tigers’ amateur and international scouting departments, working under president of baseball operations Scott Harris. Detroit finished 66-96 in 2022 and has not made the playoffs in eight years. Harris took over the front office after longtime general manager Al Avila was fired in August. NFL – NFL says referees didn’t get Mike Evans’ autograph The NFL says the two game officials seen interacting with Tampa Bay wide receiver Mike Evans in the tunnel of Bank of America Stadium after the Buccaneers’ 21-3 loss to the Carolina Panthers on Sunday didn’t ask for an autograph. The league released a statement saying the interaction “did not involve a request by the game officials for an autograph” and the officials were reminded of the “importance of avoiding even the appearance of impropriety” when interacting with players. NFL officials are banned from asking for autographs or memorabilia under their labor contract. Evans said Tuesday he was talking about golf with the referees. NFL – Titans release renderings of proposed new domed stadium The Tennessee Titans’ proposed domed stadium would seat approximately 60,000 people and cover 1.7 million square feet under renderings released Tuesday. The renderings show the stadium with porches and outdoor terraces providing views of Nashville, a circular translucent roof and a variety of areas for fans. An architect has not yet been hired. The new stadium would cost $1.2 billion in public funding and is considered to be the largest public commitment for an NFL stadium to date. The release follows last week’s announcement of a deal for $760 million in local financing that still must be approved by the Nashville council and sports authority. Golf – LIV Golf team finale set for Doral, PGA Tour goes to Bermuda LIV Golf heads to Trump National Doral in Miami this weekend for the finale of the Saudi-funded series’ inaugural season. A dozen four-man teams will play for a $50 million purse, the biggest ever in golf, with each winning team member getting $4 million. Dustin Johnson and his “4 Aces” are the top seed. The field features only one player from the top 50 in the world ranking. The European tour is in Portugal for the Portugal Masters. Jack Hughes, Dawson Mercer, Yegor Sharangovich and Nico Hischier also scored for the Devils. Vitek Vanecek stopped 20 shots to help the Devils bounce back from a 6-3 loss at home to Washington on Monday. Dominik Kubalik and Dylan Larkin scored for Detroit and Alex Nedeljkovic made 35 saves. The PGA Tour heads to Bermuda for the Butterfield Bermuda Championship. Lucas Herbert of Australia is not returning to defend his title. The field features only one player from the top 50 in the world ranking. The European tour is in Portugal for the Portugal Masters. NCAAFB – Big Ten boasts some of nation’s top defenses in 2022 Just four Big Ten teams are ranked in the AP Top 25, but six of the top 12 defenses in college football reside in the conference. Illinois has the top-ranked defensive unit in the nation, followed by No. 2 Ohio State. Michigan is ranked fifth in defense. Iowa was propped up by its tough defense before running into the speeding Buckeyes last week. The Hawkeyes are still sixth best in the nation. Rutgers and Minnesota have needed the help of their defenses, ranked seventh and 12th, respectively, to stay above .500. It's a Fairbanks Friday Edition of the Locked On FLORIDA Panthers Podcast, as Nick Fairbanks(@prudentia0) joins Armando Velez(@Mandoman12) to discuss the Panthers' 3-1 victory over the New York Islanders. Sergei Bobrovsky and the Panthers Penalty Kill set the tone early as the Islanders dominated period number 1. Panthers took advantage by drawing 3 Islanders penalties in period number 2 that led to them having the lead on an Eetu Luostarinen deflection. Islanders provided a little bit of a scare as Noah Dobson scored on the power play, only for Patric Hornqvist to give the Panthers the lead 30 seconds later. Matthew Tkachuk was extremely noticeable for the Cats as he almost scored in the first minute. Matthew led the team in shot attempts and didn't convert until his 16th attempt on an empty net goal to ice the game. Armando and Nick discuss what is going on around the NHL and a difference in advertising on tv broadcasts on today's edition of the Locked On FLORIDA Panthers Podcast: Your Team, Every Day.Twitter: @LO_FLAPanthers Email: lockedonflapanthers@gmail.comSubscribe to Locked On Panthers for FREE on your favorite podcast platform!Apple: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/locked-on-panthers-daily-podcast-on-the-florida-panthers/id469193661Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/509xdSHc2QuXXAE4CQVQp4?si=VPbooMFYTdqKF4HbW8SV3A&nd=1Google: https://podcasts.google.com/feed/aHR0cHM6Ly9wYW50aGVycGFya3dheXJhZGlvLmJsb2dzcG90LmNvbS9mZWVkcy9wb3N0cy9kZWZhdWx0?sa=X&ved=0CBQQ27cFahcKEwiItMCm9MHvAhUAAAAAHQAAAAAQAQAudacy: https://www.audacy.com/podcast/locked-on-panthers-daily-podcast-on-the-florida-panthers-19287YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCHsUfqcK1qfjlqhamXbta_Q#FloridaPanthers #Panthers #NHLHockeySupport Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!Built BarBuilt Bar is a protein bar that tastes like a candy bar. Armando and Nick discuss what is going on around the NHL and a difference in advertising on tv broadcasts on today's edition of the Locked On FLORIDA Panthers Podcast: Your Team, Every Day.
