1973 was a great year for fans of high-strangeness UFO reports. The most famous of these is the October 11th case from Pascagoula, Mississippi, where Charles Hickson and Calvin Parker said they were taken aboard a craft by elephant-skinned humanoids with crab-claw like hands. After their story hit the papers, an article appeared in the October 18, 1973, edition of The Pensacola News ( part 1, part 2 ) headlined “Pickup by UFO Reported.” According to the article, a “Pensacola businessman” (later identified as an electrician) reported an encounter of his own, and his story was even more dramatic than Hickson and Parker's. UFO investigators at the time seem to have mostly ignored it, as it doesn't appear in periodicals of the day such as The APRO Bulletin or Flying Saucer Review. This might have been due to the continued focus on the Pascagoula case and the extreme nature of the claim by the man in Pensacola. Read more →Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/podcast-ufo--5922140/support.

My special guest tonight is Ali Saidatan who's here to discuss the alien-hybrids that are being created to replace the human race in secret.   Abductions in History: While "alien abduction" did not achieve widespread attention until the 1960s, many similar stories are known to have been circulating decades earlier. These early abduction-like accounts have been dubbed "paleo-abductions" by UFO researcher Jerome Clark.[3] This same two-part article ([4] and  [3]) makes note of many paleo-abductions, some of which were reported well before the 1957 Antonio Villas Boas case earned much attention, or even before the UFO report claimed in 1947 by pilot Kenneth Arnold that first generated widespread interest in UFOs:  At least one case of attempted abduction was reported in conjunction with the mystery airships of the late 19th century. Colonel H. G. Shaw's account was published in the Stockton, California Daily Mail in 1897: Shaw claimed that he and a friend were harassed by three tall, slender humanoids whose bodies were covered with a fine, downy hair. The beings tried to accost or kidnap Shaw and his friend, who were able to fight them off.[4] In his book New Lands (1923), American writer Charles Fort speculated that extraterrestrial beings might have kidnapped humans: "One supposes that if extra-mundane vessels have sometimes come close to this earth, then sailing away, terrestrial aëronauts may have occasionally left this earth, or may have been seized and carried away from this earth."[5] The 1951 case of  Fred Reagan was publicized by  Flying Saucer Review in the late 1960s based on news clippings from 1952. Reagan claimed to have been piloting his small airplane, which was struck by a UFO; the occupants (who resembled metallic stalks of asparagus) apologized, and tried to cure Reagan's cancer. Reagan reportedly died of a brain disorder not long after the alleged UFO encounter.[6][unreliable source?] In 1954, Paris Match printed a story said to have occurred in 1921, when the anonymous writer was a child. The writer claimed to have been snatched by two tall "men" who wore helmets and "diving suits", who took the boy to an "oddly shaped tank" before being released. Rogerson calls this story "the earliest known abduction survivor report".[2] A 1958 letter to NICAP asserted that two U.S. Army soldiers witnessed two bright red lights near their base. The soldiers had a strange sense of dissociation, and found themselves in a new location, with no memory of how they arrived there.[citation needed] Rogerson writes that the publication of Harold T. Wilkins's Flying Saucers Uncensored (1955) declared that two contactees (Karl Hunrath and Wilbur Wilkinson) had disappeared under mysterious circumstances; Wilkins reported speculation that the duo were the victims of "alleged abduction by flying saucers".[2] The so-called Shaver Mystery of the 1940s has some similarities to later abduction accounts, as well, with sinister beings said to be kidnapping and torturing people. Rogerson writes that John Robinson (a friend of ufology gadfly Jim Moseley) made a 1957 appearance on John Nebel's popular overnight radio program to tell "a dramatically spooky, if not very plausible, abduction tale" related to the Shaver Mystery: Robinson claimed that a friend of his had been held captive by the evil Deros beneath the Earth, and to have been the victim of a sort of mind control via small "earphones"; Rogerson writes that "in this unlikely tale that we first encounter the implants ... and other abductionist staples".[2]   Follow Our Other ShowsFollow UFO WitnessesFollow Crime Watch WeeklyFollow Paranormal FearsFollow Seven: Disturbing Chronicle StoriesJoin our Patreon for ad-free listening and more bonus content.Follow us on Instagram @mysteriousradioFollow us on TikTok mysteriousradioTikTok Follow us on Twitter @mysteriousradio Follow us on Pinterest pinterest.com/mysteriousradio Like us on Facebook Facebook.com/mysteriousradio

Featured on my show today, "The Strange Reality with Dave Emmons," the guest is Nigel Watson from the UK. The show was recorded on 8-27-24. Nigel tells us about his book "UFOs of the First World War." Nigel says from 1890 to the present day, there has been fear from the people in the UK of aircraft attacking them. They would see strange lights and unusual shapes of craft that resembled Durigibles the Germans used. He tells us of abductions in the 1890s and people being visited by alien craft. Nigel says in his book "UFO Investigations Manual: from 1892 to the Present Day" that ET events that he documented, like Barney and Betty Hill, Roswell 1947, and Travis Walton's story of abductions. Nigel actually describes ET events before the popular Roswell 1947 event. Nigel Watson is a researcher and investigator of historical and contemporary reports. He is also an author and columnist for Fortean Times Magazine, Magonia, All About Space, Outer Limits Magazine, Fate, and Flying Saucer Review. His book, "Captured by Aliens," is out now. Greetings patrons! I apologize for taking so long with these bonus episodes, but they are here in one combined episode. In Volume 9, we take a look at Argentinian sightings leading up to the Trancas Incident (which we covered in episode 99 with Stephanie Quick), including the sighting of a man who was burned by a UFO and a hotel that was destroyed under mysterious circumstances.  As a follow up to episode 100, I present more hostile UFO encounters, including the infamous 1946 encounter of João Prestes Filho, which allegedly lead to his death, and the story of a French baker who was attacked by a UFO occupant. In Volume 10, I present the infamous Cowichan District Hospital close encounter witnessed by Doreen Kendall, which led investigators to a series of sightings on Vancouver Island leading up to it. I also explore an interesting archetype that keeps popping up in my research. Hello Patrons! On this episode of the Hum and the Silence, I delve into supplementary material from the "Year of the Humanoids," including a woman named Alice and her family's encounters with "the little people." There is the story of Eddie Webb, a long haul trucker who was blinded and had his glasses burned by a UFO. On the abduction side of things, Brian Scott had been involved in multiple abductions including one in 1973 in which his consciousness was abducted and taken on board a UFO. Patty Roach was involved in a frightening encounter with her entire family as they were taken from their home and brought on board a craft to have her memories taken. Hello Patrons! Here is the first of three volumes of supplementary material from the 65-67 series! There were a number of trends from this year that stood out, that we didn't really get a chance to cover on the main show. There were multiple events where a car would be lifted up into the air and communication would occur. South America was the location of a number of contactee like cases, but also cases in which "little people" would present witnesses with pieces of metal. This was also the year of the Valensole Affair, one of France's most important UFO cases of all time, and even Antarctica saw UFO activity around this time! There is an article headlined “The Taradale Car Crash” in the March-April 1969 Flying Saucer Review, Vol. 15, No. 7. It is described as an “adapted version” of an article written by Henk Hinfelaar and Claude Elmes of New Zealand Scientific Space Research that appeared in that organization's newsletter Spaceview. It concerns a car accident in Taradale, New Zealand, a suburb of the Northeastern city of Napier, involving two young men who reported that a UFO was the cause. According to Hinfelaar and Elmes, not only did the young men report this to police, but the owner/driver of the car gave the same story to his insurance company, and it was used as a defense by him in a court of law. Read more →Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/podcast-ufo--5922140/support.

In 1974, Carl Higdon met a strange, floating humanoid in the woods, and was taken inside a strange see-through structure, only to be literally dropped back down to Earth. Higdon's case is a classic UFO abduction, but it may also shed light on other unexplained disappearances and deaths around the world. VYS0038 | Fuck Capitalism! - Vayse to Face with Rob Kristoffersen - Show Notes Unable to put off dedicating an episode to the UFO mystery any longer, Hine and Buckley welcome researcher, podcaster and writer Rob Kristoffersen. Rob is the creator and host of the incredibly popular podcast Our Strange Skies: UFOs Throughout History, co-creator of the web-comic Welcome UFO People and expert on all things extra-terrestrial, ultra-terrestrial, crypto-terrestrial and any other form in which the phenomenon may choose to manifest. Rob talks about his own weird experiences and Hine and Buckley waste no time in asking him the questions that keep them awake at night: What exactly is it that people are seeing when they see UFOs? Are UFO and alien encounters a range of different experiences and phenomena or are they all the same thing viewed through different lenses? What's the deal with Whitley Strieber and what the deal with Jacques Vallée? Is there a connection between UFOs and death? What's really behind the whole Disclosure movement? Which Cryptid has the best PR person? and what does Rob really think about capitalism...? Sightings of winged creatures flying through the sky have long been a staple of folklore, mythology and legend across the world and across time and cultures. In the ancient world, Gods and monsters were depicted with enormous, scaled and feathered wings, whilst in modern times, sightings have become more and more diverse, from thunderbirds, to the mysterious Mothman. Three years before the one of the most famous sightings of a mysterious flying creature in Point Pleasant, West Virginia, there was a sighting almost 4,000 miles away, across the Atlantic in a quiet market town in the south-east of England that bore a remarkable resemblance and whilst it caused far less of a stir, it certainly drew just as much confusion. Pull out your humanoid catalogs and put your flaps on a map, it's time for the season (maybe series?!) finale of Our Strange Skies. On this episode Nicole and Noëlle from The Quite Unusual Podcast stop by to talk about the landmark publication, The Humanoids. With the even longer subtitle of “a survey of World-Wide reports of landings of unconventional aerial objects and their alleged Occupants…” this special edition of Britain's Flying Saucer Review was the first of its kind, devoted solely to the humanoids that UFO investigators and the press had largely ignored to this point. We dive into this document, the larger implications it offers, what the true meaning of alien contact is, and we put all of these flaps up on map. Is Earth basically just a timeshare for aliens? Do they visit us at our most mundane moments? Are the Men in Black real estate brokers and did they pay Ed Walters to make Gulf Breeze more attractive to alien tourists? Why is the onesie the most efficient form of clothing? We explore this and so much more! Tonight, The Light Gate welcomes lifelong UFO experiencer and author, Steve Boucher. Steve Boucher is an AutoCAD Draftsman who lives in St. Catharines, Ontario. He is also a musician, singer, and fine artist. Steve has had experiences with non-terrestrial beings since he was a baby. The bulk of his experiences were buried in his subconscious mind for many years until he began to have brief flashes of conscious memory after reading Budd Hopkins' book ‘Missing Time.' Steve then wrote to Budd Hopkins and informed him of the memories he was having. Budd then contacted Steve and invited him to come to New York and stay at his art studio in Manhattan for a week. Steve accepted the invitation and during that week in 1984, he underwent 3 hypnosis sessions which revealed that he had experienced repeated visitations from short grey-skinned beings approximately 4 feet tall with large eyes and large heads. After Steve returned to Canada, he went to a UFO Symposium in Toronto and met up with some people from a group known as CUFORN (The Canadian UFO Research Network). CUFORN has since disbanded, but they took over the case and did a thorough investigation of Steve's UFO experiences. They scheduled several more hypnosis sessions for him, at which they were present and published the results of the investigation in their CUFORN Journal. The case was also reported in the MUFON Journal and the Flying Saucer Review. To protect his identity at the time, CUFORN gave him a pseudonym (Jack T.) However, he has decided that now is the time to reveal his identity to the public because he feels that the story needs to be told. Steve has remembered many more details and more experiences have surfaced since the initial investigation took place. Steve holds 2 Canadian patents on a container for making wine at home and a rotary vane engine. And, like many experiencers, he has an amazing connection to nature and animals. Steve Boucher's book, Beyond the Extraterrestrial Firewall (with a forward by Grant Cameron) is one of few books written by an actual experiencer. by Charles Lear, author of “The Flying Saucer Investigators.”Bowles and PrattThis is the third part in a series looking at two separate encounters in Winchester, England, with UFOs and humanoids reported by two friends, 42-year-old Joyce Bowles and 58-year-old Ted Pratt. They reported that as Bowles was driving with Pratt in the passenger seat prior to their first encounter, Bowles's Cooper Mini Clubman travelled diagonally as if it was floating after the steering wheel locked, and the car came to a rest on a strip of grass (known as a “verge” in England) next to the road. They said they then saw a craft hovering 18 inches above the ground with 3 humanoids behind a window or windows sitting lined up as if they were on a bus. A creature left the craft, possibly by walking through it, came up to the car, and seemed to have put its hand on the roof as it looked in Bowles's window. It was said to have been wearing what looked like a silver “boiler suit” and to have had long hair that curled up in the back, sideburns that came down to a pointed beard, and brilliant red eyes with no pupils or irises. They said that during their second encounter, they found themselves standing next to Bowles's car inside what they assumed was a spaceship. The creatures spoke with them, said they weren't there to invade and that they'd be back. Their case got the interest of researchers from various organizations and there is one article examining it in the March/April 1977 BUFORA Journal and FOUR articles in the February 1977, Vol. 22, No. 5 Flying Saucer Review. In the course of the investigation, it came out that there were after-effects and that Bowles had a history of reported paranormal experiences and well as healing and psychic abilities. One of the researchers, Lionel Beer, reported in his article in the BUFORA Journal that Bowles's history made him dubious, but he and the others didn't discount her claims, possibly due to the influence the ideas of John Keel and Jacques Vallée were having on researchers at the time. Leslie Harris makes a reference to Vallée's 1969 book “Passport to Magonia” in his article covering the case in Flying Saucer Review. In last week's blog, we looked at a case involving two friends, 42-year-old Joyce Bowles and 58-year-old Ted Pratt, who reported an encounter on November 14, 1976, in Winchester, England. They claimed they saw a cigar-shaped craft hovering 18 inches above the ground with three humanoids, sitting lined up as if they were on a bus, visible behind a window or windows. One creature was said to have left the craft, possibly by passing through it, and then to have walked towards Bowles and Pratt, who were sitting in Bowles's Cooper Mini Clubman. The creature was described as human-looking, with long hair that curled up in the back and sideburns that went down to a pointed beard, but its eyes were said to be “piercing pink” with no pupils or irises. Bowles said when she looked away from them, she saw spots as if she had been looking at the sun. The case got the interest of many researchers, mostly from the British UFO Research Association. There is one article (page 12 of the pdf) covering it in the March/April 1977 BURORA Journal, and four in the Volume 22, Number 5, 1976 Flying Saucer Review, published in February 1977. What makes this case unique is that it involves two witnesses who described two encounters. This week we're looking at the second encounter described. On November 15, 1976, 42-year-old Joyce Bowles, and her 58-year-old friend, Ted Pratt, appeared on the BBC television program South Today. They were interviewed about their reported encounters with UFOs and humanoids the night before. Their case got the interest of researchers from various organizations and there are FOUR articles examining it in the February 1977, Vol. 22, No. 5 Flying Saucer Review: an article by Bournemouth Unexplained Phenomena Research Group Investigator Leslie Harris headlined “UFO & Silver-Suited Entity Seen Near Winchester,” an article by British UFO Research Association Investigator Richard Nash that consists mostly of a transcription of a tape recorded interview with Bowles and Pratt conducted by Nash, “Questions and Comments on the Nash Interview” by BUFORA Research Coordinator Jenny Randles, and an article by BUFORA Investigator Frank J. Wood based on two reports prepared by him headlined “Alleged CE-III at Winchester: Vehicle Examination,” with the subheading “Together with a few other matters of interest.” There is also an article by Lionel Beer in the March/April BUFORA Journal headlined “The Winchester Encounters. There are several sensational claims in this case, and while it is based on the testimony of two witnesses, Mrs. Bowles had a history of reporting other paranormal encounters, which caused some doubt among researchers. However, Jacques Vallée's 1969 book, Passport to Magonia, had an impact on the thinking of researchers at that time, as did the work of John Keel, an FSR contributor, and an increasing number were considering the idea that UFOs might be more paranormal in nature than physical craft being piloted by extraterrestrials.Read more →This show is part of the Spreaker Prime Network, if you are interested in advertising on this podcast, contact us at https://www.spreaker.com/show/5922140/advertisement

by Charles Lear, author of “The Flying Saucer Investigators.”In the November 1978 Vol. 24, No. 3, Flying Saucer Review, there is an article (page 9 of pdf) by W. K. Allan headlined, “The Fort St. James Sightings,” that details Allan's investigation of a case in British Columbia, Canada, along with the editor of the Canadian UFO Report, John Magor. Allan describes becoming interested in the case upon seeing a report (page 2 of pdf) headlined, “Possible Canadian Abduction,” in the March 1977 APRO Bulletin. According to Allan, he and Magor travelled, along with their wives, to Fort St. James to interview the witness, who identifies himself as Kirk Alore in the transcription of his story as told on tape. His account includes what seems to be a period of missing time, and this is likely what led the APRO investigator, Michael Sinclair, to consider that Alore might have been abducted. As they looked into the case further, they encountered some problems with Alore's story but got corroboration from his parents. At this time in his life, he was writing articles for the British publication, Flying Saucer Review and sharing his research with Jim and Coral Lorenzen of the Aerial Phenomena Research Organization. He wrote an article (page 6 of pdf) about one case he looked into that year, headlined “New Landing and Creature Reports” that was published in the November-December 1966 Flying Saucer Review. Keel shared the details of the case with APRO, and they published their take on it (page 3 of pdf) headlined, “The Presque Isle Landing,” in the July-August 1966 APRO Bulletin.Read more →This show is part of the Spreaker Prime Network, if you are interested in advertising on this podcast, contact us at https://www.spreaker.com/show/5922140/advertisement

by Charles Lear, author of “The Flying Saucer Investigators.” In October 1970, the publishers of the British magazine Flying Saucer Review put out the first issue of FSR Case Histories. Editor Charles Bowen explains at the beginning of that issue that readers had “suggested that FSR should be a monthly journal.” According to Bowen, the FSR staff worked in their spare time to put out the magazine, and while putting it out monthly wasn't possible, it was possible to put out a supplemental journal in between the main issues. Other reasons Bowen gives for putting out a supplement are: to provide space for cases that might otherwise go unrecorded, to translate stories from foreign journals, to encourage readers to become part-time investigators, and to have “a vehicle to carry important re-investigations of old cases.” The February 1974 FSR Case Histories, Supplement 18, was the final issue and Bowen and Assistant Editor Eileen Buckle explain in that issue that this is due to “lukewarm support and the shocking rise of costs and postage.” A case from that issue that caught this writer's interest is an example of a case that was translated from a foreign magazine, in this instance, from the December 1972 issue of the Spanish magazine, Stendak. The city of Villa Carlos Paz is a tourist destination in central Argentina, known for a number of outdoor activities, such as kite surfing and hiking, as well as a giant cuckoo clock in the center of town. (Apparently the bird is controversial) In UFO circles, however, the town is known for one event in particular, the case of the Night Visitor. Also known as the Pretzel CEIII case, on June 14, 1968, María Elodia Pretzel was in the process of locking up the family motel, Motel La Cuesta (Known now as Hotel La Cuesta), when she would have a frightening encounter with a flattopped being carrying a strange disco ball and wearing a tight fitting suit. Strangely, María's encounter was not the only one that featured mysterious human-like figures... The Pennine Hills, located in Northern England, played host to a number of strange phenomenon throughout the 1970s and into the 80s. From the "Phantom Copters" of 1973, to triangular shaped UFOs and low hovering objects that would stop cars, the area was a hotspot. It ultimately culminated in two events connected by one person, Alan Godfrey. The mysterious death of Zigmund Adamski was strange by police standards, but even stranger when the police refused to investigated it. It became stranger four months later, when the officer involved would have a startling encounter with alien beings. This week, we talk about the Pennine Mystery! This episode marks the beginning of a L O N G series about the history of the alien abduction phenomenon. Our premise, in part, can be summarized by Thomas Bullard, “UFO abductions in the strict sense of the term usually include a visible UFO and require involuntary capture or coercion to get witnesses on board. Once they are inside the crew examines them and turns them out after about two hours, and during that time the witnesses usually suffer some impairment of memory, consciousness or ability to act. Failure to remember the encounter often persists long after the abduction is over. The earliest case of this general description occurred as early as 1929 (see Table I-1) and a few others date prior to 1947, but abductions begin to roll only in 1949. A low incidence persists until 1967, but the high rate of that year did not survive the decline in UFO activity or interest current around 1970. The number leaps to new highs during the flap year of 1973 and this time the level holds, with 1979 topping the chart with two dozen cases. A drop-off in the 1980s may follow the general decline in UFO activity during this decade, but delays in reporting, investigation and publication may be responsible. Time will tell whether the poor turnout applies to actual abductions or abduction reports. “At this point a word of caution is necessary: Many witnesses claim abductions back into the 1940s and 1950s, but a glance at the upper half of Table I-1 shows that no one reported an abduction before 1957. Abductions as a matter of record are 20 years old at best (for the listener, this volume was published in 1987), and most only half that age with 1980 being the peak year with 42 reports.” With Rich Hatem along for the ride we dive into the earliest modern abduction case in print, the accounts that The Interrupted Journey brought out, the stories of Flora Evans and Gerry Irwin, and strange cases of spontaneous teleportation. When it comes to the big hairy guy in the woods, most people are of the mind that Bigfoot is a salt of the earth creature, feet firmly planted on the ground. Well, on this episode, we talk about the Bigfoot that may have hitched a ride on a UFO. For decades, hairy creatures have been associated with the UFO phenomenon. In 1954, Venezuela was besieged by short, stocky creatures, with glowing yellow eyes. This particular hairy humanoid was particularly aggressive, scratching many witnesses. The link between the two phenomena would become stronger in the early 70s after a series of sightings in Missouri, Illinois, Indiana and Pennsylvania. On this episode Jordan Heath from Campfire: Tales of the Strange and Unsettling stops by to talk about Bigfoots that are able to disable cars with its hair, a strange case from 1912, and the strange case of George Kowalczyk, who may have been possessed by a Bigfoot? On episode 96, we briefly touched upon the story of the Sunderland family, who'd had a series of encounters with UFOs and aliens in a field near their home. The accounts of Gaynor and Darren Sunderland were very similar; they included strange flying saucers, wobbly walking aliens, and sci-fi ray guns. Their story first made headlines in 1978 and soon after, investigators began to document continued contacts between these human-like beings, Gaynor and Darren. These contacts included trips to alien worlds, repelling sentient alien planets, and would expand to include "psychic questing," or the act of using chaos magick in the search for historical artifacts and locations. Sam and Sage from Your Brain on Weird join me to discuss slow moving ray guns, aliens that look like deranged Homer Simpsons, and the quest for the Green Stone! Four years before the more famous Hill Abduction, a Brazilian farmer had a hair-raising experience that is eerily reminiscent of the “alien abduction” stories brought to light in the 1980s and 90s. His case is now widely considered the first alien abduction of the post-war era, and the first to imply an agenda of alien-human hybridization. In July of 1967, Ronnie Hill, a 14-year-old North Carolina boy, reported that he'd taken a picture of a UFO with a humanoid in front of it. According to John Keel, who wrote about the story in his article, “The Little Man of North Carolina,” published in the January-February 1969 Flying Saucer Review, the boy sent the picture off to Flying Saucers-UFO Reports, which had just been discontinued by its publisher, Dell Publishing. The editor, Carmena Freeman, sent the picture to Keel and he began a correspondence with Hill, which continued throughout 1968. According to Keel, Hill was “agonizingly slow” in responding to his letters. Keel wrote in his article that he had the photo blown up “to wall size” and that he and “several professional photographers” didn't see anything that made it seem that the figure was a doll or some other form of hoax. Read more →

My special guest tonight is author and researcher Brent Raynes, who's here to discuss the late John Keel and the many years he spent looking into strange phenomena.     Brent Raynes is the author of Visitors from Hidden Realms (2004), On The Edge of Reality (2009), and John A. Keel: The Man, The Myths, and the Ongoing Mysteries (2019). He is the editor of the online magazine Alternate Perceptions (apmagazine.info) and has been researching and investigating UFOs and other high-strange phenomena for 55 years, going back to age 14. He has worked with the Dr. Edgar Mitchell Foundation for Research into Extraterrestrial and Extraordinary Encounters (FREE), contributed a chapter for their book Beyond UFOs (2018), and worked with the UFO Contact Center International.     John Alva Keel, born Alva John Kiehle (March 25, 1930 – July 3, 2009), was an American journalist and influential UFOlogist who is best known as the author of The Mothman Prophecies.  Early life[edit]  Keel was born in Hornell, New York, the son of a small-time bandleader. His parents separated, and his grandparents raised him. He was interested in magic and had his first story published in a magicians' magazine at age 12. He left school at 16 after taking all the science courses.  He was a freelance newspaper contributor, scriptwriter for local radio and television outlets, and author of pulp articles such as "Are You A Repressed Sex Fiend?" He served in the US Army during the Korean War on the staff of the American Forces Network in Frankfurt, Germany. He claimed that while in the Army, he was trained in psychological warfare as a propaganda writer.[1]  Career[edit]  After leaving the military, he worked as a foreign radio correspondent in Paris, Berlin, Rome, and Egypt.  In 1957, he published Jadoo, a book describing his time in Egypt and India investigating the Indian rope trick and the legendary yeti. 1966, he produced the "spy and superhero" spoof novel The Fickle Finger of Fate. Influenced by writers such as Charles Fort, he began contributing articles to Flying Saucer Review, investigated UFOs, and assorted Forteana as a full-time pursuit. Keel analyzed what he called "windows" and "waves" (or flaps, as they are often called) of reported UFO events, concluding that a disproportionate number occurred on Wednesdays and Saturdays.[2] A member of the Screenwriters Guild, Keel reportedly wrote scripts for Get Smart, The Monkees, Mack & Myer for Hire, and Lost in Space.[3]  In 1967, Keel popularized "men in black" in an article for the men's adventure magazine Saga, entitled "UFO Agents of Terror."  Rejection of Extraterrestrial Hypothesis [edit]  Like contemporary 1960s researchers such as J. Allen Hynek and Jacques Vallée, Keel initially hoped to validate the prevailing extraterrestrial visitation hypothesis somehow. However, after one year of investigations, Keel concluded that the extraterrestrial hypothesis was untenable. Indeed, both Hynek and Vallée eventually arrived at a similar conclusion. As Keel himself wrote:  I abandoned the extraterrestrial hypothesis in 1967 when my field investigations disclosed an astonishing overlap between psychic phenomena and UFOs... The objects and apparitions do not necessarily originate on another planet and may not even exist as permanent constructions of matter. We are more likely to see what we want to see and interpret such visions according to our contemporary beliefs.[4]   It's super easy to access our archives!   Here's how:   iPhone Users: Access Mysterious Radio from Apple Podcasts and become a subscriber there, or if you want access to even more exclusive content, join us on Patreon.   Android Users: Enjoy over 800 exclusive member-only posts to include ad-free episodes, case files, and more when you join us on Patreon.    Please copy and Paste our link in a text message to all your family members and friends! Journalist Bob Pratt made several trips to Brazil, collecting stories from villagers of UFO encounters. Many of them proved to be random, violent encounters which he published in UFO Danger Zone. Often these attacks would come after the witnesses had lit up a cigarette. The area known as "The Valley of the Old Women" produced many accounts over the decades. To quote Pratt, “The valley encompasses 10,750 square miles of cattle ranches and farmland in low mountains and rolling hills in the center of the state of Minas Gerais. The river has many smaller streams feeding it. “The system originates near the city of Ouro Preto, southeast of the state capital, Belo Horizonte, and meanders north-northwest about five hundred kilometers before emptying into the Rio Sao Francisco, one of Brazil's largest rivers.” On this episode, Rus Ryan, the co-host of The Unbelievers and Zona del Silencio podcasts joins me to discuss these strange encounters. In UFO circles, Puerto Rico's reputation has largely been built upon that red eyed goat sucker known as El Chupacabras. In reality, their UFO and humanoid history is much more varied than that. Magdalena del Amo-Freixedo, the wife of investigator Salvador Freixedo, put it best: “Long ago, long before the arrival of Christopher Columbus, the god Yuquiyú was wont to appear to the natives of the Island, the Taino Indians. And, as the centuries have passed, Puerto Rico has been the scene of all the most controversial and diverse sorts of paranormal phenomena, such as ‘encounters with fairies,' apparitions of ‘yetis,' of strange animals, of UFO sightings, of ‘dwarfs with big heads,' etc., etc.” On this episode I'm joined by artist Todd Purse to talk about El Chupacabras, the weird beings that have been seen in El Yunque, and many others! CW: ANIMAL DEATH, ANIMAL KIDNAPPING  On September 21, 1967 Harry King went to the fence to give Nelly Lewis' prized Appaloosa Horse, Lady, her usual treat for the day. He grew concerned when she failed to show up. A short time later, her body was found, mutilated. Lady's death was quick to make newspaper headlines because of the unusual condition her remains were in, and investigators were quick to link the case to UFO activity in the area.  From there, cases of animal mutilation were reported en masse, leading to public enquires from state governors and other officials. Throughout the 70s and 80s, Mutilation cases were documented in Kansas, Nebraska, Iowa, South Dakota, Colorado, Oklahoma, Minnesota, Montana and Texas, along with Puerto Rico. While these mutilation cases fit a certain pattern, on this episode, paranormal investigator and co-host of The Q Files, Shane McClelland, joins me to discuss the most unusual cases, including the "rapture" of a calf in Brazil, a poaching on the Cheshire River in England and an unusual sheep slayer in Bolivia. In 1968 Gordon Creighton of Flying Saucer Review received a rather angry letter from a man named F.D. Marrow of Flemington, New Jersey. Marrow, a Klass apologist, was concerned that he was doing a disservice to UFO research by comparing UFOs and ghostly phenomenon. “On this basis UFOs will never communicate with the authorities or the average man, and we will have to depend on mediums, and others with so-called psychic insight for information – and of course such reports can never be substantiated.” As a response, in the September/October 1968 edition of Flying Saucer Review, Creighton published an article called “Strangers About the House” which detailed ghostly encounters with human resembling beings wearing space suits and appearing like TV images. Mediums contacting beings from “other worlds” was nothing new, and in fact, noted medium Vesta La Viesta did so in the 1800s. By the mid to late 1960s, new theories crept into mainstream UFO research, suggesting that these craft may not even be physical, but from dimensions unseen to the human eye. I'm joined by paranormal investigator Amanda Paulson, who has been investigating the paranormal for over 14 years, and is the star of the upcoming documentary, Death is With Me to discuss when UFOs and ghostly phenomenon cross the streams. For decades, UFO reports from inside the Soviet Union were leaked to various UFO researchers and writers. Flying Saucer Review often printed UFO accounts from behind the Iron Curtain, which was risky, because it was forbidden to write about UFOs in the Soviet Union. And then, in 1989, UFO secrecy seemed to drop overnight. News of a now infamous landing in Yuzhny Park (South Park) from the industrial city of Voronezh made headlines worldwide. Soon, news of other landings and UFO accounts would fill the pages of UFO journals and supplements,  Did UFO secrecy really fall, or was there something at work in Russia. The earliest abduction cases, like those of Betty and Barney Hill and Antônio Villas Boas, were strange and new. Cases in which people were kidnapped by alien beings were rare. So rare, in fact, that they had never appeared in print before. But when they did cases started to emerge, slowly, into the ufological psyche.  One of the earliest cases involves the abduction of a Brazilian soldier, José Antônio da Silva, who was kidnapped by short hairy humanoids, taken to a strange room, made to consume a strange liquid, and was perhaps involved in an intergalactic arms deal? Brian Hastie from Double Density and The Order of Podcasters joins me to discuss one of the most fascinating and earliest alien abduction cases. In the hunt for proof that strange vehicles are flying through our atmosphere, possibly under the guidance of alien pilots, researchers have long looked to photographs. There are some, such as the McMinnville photos, that have become classics that continue to spark debate. Many have been passed through time by newspaper articles, books, magazines, documentaries, and websites. Of course, along with the photo, there is the story of the photographer, though getting that story straight might prove difficult. In October of 1952, a story went across the newswires that a man in Italy had claimed to have taken pictures of a flying saucer and its occupant while climbing in the Bernina section of the Italian Alps. He told reporters that he saw a flying saucer land on a glacier. According to him, “a human shape wearing some sort of diving suit” got out, walked around the ship, and then got back in. The saucer rose up and “it took off without a sound at breathtaking speed.” He said he sold the photos to a French magazine. The man was 29-year-old Italian engineer Gianpietro Monguzzi. His story is told in detail and his pictures are presented in the Sept.-Oct. 1958 issue of Flying Saucer Review. According to the article “Monguzzi Takes Saucer Photos of the Century,” written by Lou Zinstag, Monguzzi (first name given as Giampiero by Zinstag) worked as an engineer in Monza, near Milan, and was a member of the Edison Society of Italy. On July 31, 1952, he was hiking in the Bernina Mountains with his wife when they came across an object, shaped like a flying saucer, sitting on a glacier. Moguzzi wanted to get closer, but his wife was frightened and insisted he stay with her. He did so and took a series of pictures showing the saucer on the ground, a humanoid walking around it, and two “excellent photos of the ship's departure.” Monguzzi ended up with a total of seven photos. At the top of the article, in a photo with a number two written on it, the saucer and the humanoid are both seen to have antennas.Read more →

It is urgent that immediate attention be given to both preserving the existing records and duplicating those records into other forms for future dissemination and study in the event that important elements of information may contribute to a solution, or solutions, to the more mysterious incidents.

For every UFO sighting reported, how many many go unreported? Even more, how many of them become classic cases that are mentioned and written about for time immemorial? This case is one that has lived in obscurity since it was first written about.  I stumbled upon it while perusing old issues of Flying Saucer Review, and I felt like I couldn’t cover it alone… so I asked my buddies, Marc Storrs and Rob Morphy from the Cryptonaut podcast to give me a hand. In the late 70s, one family from South Middleton, Massachusetts went through a series of experiences involving strange “prowlers” creeping around their property, a UFO that sat on their property for a few days, grey-like aliens, and poltergeist activity. What's up, ufonauts?! On this weeks Minisode, we look at one of the strangest cases featuring anomalous phenomenon ever recorded. Across the United States, there are certain areas where Bigfoots, UFOs, and ghosts exist in the same spaces. In October of 1973, all of these types of phenomenon descended on a rural farm in southwestern Pennsylvania, in an area that could easily be compared to the Bridgewater Triangle or even Skinwalker Ranch. It was an ordinary evening when Deputy Sheriff William E. McCoy, and patrol deputy Robert Goode were on routine patrol in Brazoria county, Texas. It was 11 P.M. when a dazzling set of purple and blue lights caught the two officer’s attention. The lights were coming from a craft the size of a football field. It looked to have a fuselage on one side, and looked like a giant set of wings without a fuselage. The large craft shone a brilliant purple beam down at the patrol car, and disappeared a short time later. Earlier that day deputy Goode had sustained an injury to his index finger from his pet alligator. Minutes after the encounter, the wound was miraculously healed. UFO literature is full of cases like these. In 03 - The UFO Miracle we detailed the story of a young girl who was cured of cancer because of the intervention of UFO occupants. Author and researcher Preston Dennett has documented 300 plus cases of healing UFOs from across the world. In this episode we explore one of these cases. The case of Dr. X, the French physician is one that survives in the pages of Flying Saucer Review and other such periodicals, but is not widely known. We still do not know the doctor’s true identity, but his story contains a miraculous encounter with a UFO that changed his life forever. In the December 1967 issue of Flying Saucer Review, there appeared an article written by Jerome Clark titled “Why UFOs Are Hostile.” In it, he presents a few cases and a load of speculation as to why UFOs are hostile. One of the stories presented is that of James Flynn, a Florida resident who had been sleeping in a swamp when he was awoken by his dogs barking. He witnessed a craft, and claimed that it rendered him unconscious for 24 hours. The article is largely supported by heavy speculation, and had little to actually back it. By and large, in the United States, UFOs were relatively tame. They seemed more curious than harmful. Thomas Mantell’s death couldn’t be exclusively proven to have been at the hands of a UFO, and the disappearance of Felix Moncla was mysterious, but still remained unknown. In Brazil, however, they started to earn the reputation of a country that suffered from its UFO sightings. In the late 70s, a flap of UFO activity occurred that resulted in serious injury, and even the deaths of Brazilian residents around the city of Colares in northern Brazil. The 1950s saw the rise of the contactees, a group of ordinary people that had been chosen by aliens from Venus, Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn to deliver a message to the citizens of earth: save the planet from atomic fallout. The message was always the same, and their cultures were strikingly similar.  In 1957, a UFO event would change all that. In October, a young Brazilian farmer was forced on board a UFO, stripped of his clothes, mated with an alien woman, and had blood taken from his chin, before being taken on a tour of the craft and deposited back on earth.  The events of the Antônio Villas Boas abduction occurred four years before what many believe to be the first abduction case, Betty and Barney Hill. But in many ways the Antônio Villas Boas story sets itself apart from the rest as the analog abduction, an event devoid of high strangeness in many ways. Special thanks to Fabi for providing research assistance, and Ryan Sprague, for offering his vocal talents. Check out his amazing podcast, Somewhere in the Skies wherever you find your podcasts!

He has held memberships in the American Astronomical Society, American Association for the Advancement of Science, and continues membership as a Fellow of the British Interplanetary Society. The UFO controversy is a topic that deserves continued monitoring and investigation in the event that one or more of the incidents reported may exhibit provable signs of a previously unknown phenomenon. Many of the UFO incidents on record are often highly unusual and difficult to explain but do not provide proof of extraterrestrial or otherwise exotic origins that are commonly expressed in popular media. It is urgent that immediate attention be given to both preserving the existing records and duplicating those records into other forms for future dissemination and study in the event that important elements of information may contribute to a solution, or solutions, to the more mysterious incidents.

What happens when a single event turns out to dominate your life, and for everyone else who isn't a close friend, it's all they want to know about you? Only the Johnson family knows what happened or didn't happen to them, and regardless of what people believe or don't believe, all you can do is to go on living your life as best you can. Except you'll never look at the world the same way again. Tonight's Quote: “Mrs. Johnson noted an immediate numbing at her fingertips. When it comes to the paranormal, people always say they want proof. Well, on Friday, November 2nd, 1971, evidence of what many believe to be "proof" of an Unidentified Flying Object touching down on the Johnson family farm in Delphos, Kansas appeared on the ground and would remain for a very long time. A crusty "ring" in the dirt and damage to the adjacent flora was left behind after the Johnsons described seeing a strange, brightly lit and noisy hovering craft of some kind leaving their property and disappearing into the night sky. This ring and the broken branches apparently in the path of this object would exhibit forensic properties that were not entirely explainable. The incident is still considered one of the best instances of a Close Encounter of the 2nd Kind: "A UFO event in which a physical effect is alleged." Whatever it was that left whatever it left, we can be certain of this — Ron Johnson will always remember this 2nd of November. Tonight's Quote: “Ronald Johnson doesn’t know what it was, but it rumbled, whistled like a jet or the high whine of tires on the freeway and shot into the sky and left a glowing ring behind on the ground.” — Page 2 of the Salina Journal, Friday, the 5th of November, 1971 Show Links: We've found that some sites are not showing these links as clickable unless they are URLs, so until those outlets improve their show notes section, we are providing actual URLs next to the clickable description of each link to make things easier for our listeners!
