This episode explores the significance of intergenerational learning and social/racial justice within the sexual health field. We had the joy of interviewing Mariotta Gary-Smith about her experiences of mentorship from Black women/femme elders that also inspired the trajectory of her career as a social justice actionable agitator. Mariotta Gary-Smith (she/her/Queen [reserved]) is a 3rd generation social justice agitator & Oregonian. Her family history of civil rights seeded her interest in social justice - she found human sexuality on her own. After high school, Mariotta earned degrees from Agnes Scott College and the Rollins School of Public Health at Emory University. In Fall 2008, she was one of five nationally selected Fellowship Scholars for the Inaugural Class at the Center of Excellence for Sexual Health (CESH) housed at the Morehouse School of Medicine. In 2009, Mariotta co-founded the Women of Color Sexual Health Network (WoCSHN; pronounced ‘wok-shyn') – an online-based, collective organization for BIPOC (Black, Indigenous and People of Color) women/femme-identifying/gender-expansive sexuality professionals. In 2012, Mariotta joined with 6 other Oregon-based BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color/of the Global Majority) women and femmes that formed the Founding Advisory Committee of the We Are BRAVE! Project, a cohort policy project housed at Western States Center (Portland, OR.) This collective was a foundational part of the local political movement that resulted in Oregon passing the Reproductive Health Equity Act (RHEA) in 2017 – the singular most progressive reproductive health law in the United States to date. With a well-respected reputation for thoughtful, challenging and honest learning experiences centering racial justice, equity, sexuality and social critique, Mariotta continues to offer strategic thought partnership & collaborative consultation with various organizations about racial justice in sexuality education and the Sexuality profession. With over 20 years of experience, Mariotta remains committed to holding space that supports clear & accountable learning on the intersections of social justice, sexual health, equity and “actionable agitation.” She's fully invested in her ‘passion work' – focusing on Black folks and Black sexuality and moving their experience from the margins to the center. You can read Mariotta's contribution about cultivating a liberatory care practice to the Sexuality Social Justice open access resource here. In this episode, we sit with Chrissa McFarlane, the creator of Patientory. Chrissa joins the show to discuss the backstory behind her patient care app. With a background in emergent health, including managing a telemedicine company and consulting for pharma and EMRs, Chrissa was driven to create Patientory from the pain point of building the insurance side of the telemedicine company, as there was not a lot of consumer focus when it came to patient records. Patientory was born from the need for an easier, more organized system for patient records, and it revolutionized the healthcare industry by connecting patients with doctors over an app. The conversation also delves into the need for consumer-friendly access to medical records, highlighting the difficulty that parents faced when trying to access their child's medical records through traditional methods. Patientory solves this problem by providing a digital health data wallet that allows users to access and manage their medical records from anywhere, making it easier for patients to keep track of their health data and stay on top of their healthcare needs. What sets Patientory apart is its incorporation of blockchain and cryptocurrency, which allows patients to have control over their health data and potentially monetize it through a marketplace ecosystem. Additionally, Patientory provides rewards for users who take steps to improve their health, such as walking a certain number of steps. These rewards can come in the form of a crypto token, NFTs, or other forms of incentives, incentivizing users to stay active and engaged in their healthcare. Due to some unseen complications on the homefront we weren't able to produce a new show this week. Hopefully we'll be back on track soon but if you guys knew the depth of my despair you'd be happy that I haven't jumped off the roof off yet.. (I'm kidding but only a little) Anyhow, enjoy this blast from the past where we take a look at the 1st Ten flicks in the 5 Mic Movie Hall Of Fame... Let's see what I had to say about all this at the time... We have a super fun show ahead of us this week. We start off with me mopping up after last week's incident with the mini-sub. Iceberg and Emily are both there. It's a fun heartfelt moment in time.. From there we talk about a movie I saw called Ralph Breaks The Internet. It's the sequel to Wreck It Ralph. It was a lot of fun. For the main event of the show we tackle something that we should have done a long time ago, The Inaugural Class Of The 5 Mic Movie Hall Of Fame. This week we go over 10 movies that should have been in from the jump. Next week we will do 10 more.. In the final segment we take some texts and have a great time listening to those. There is also some toy talk and stuff like that! Make sure to hop on over to Support The Report and check out how you can get the ISR Supertape VHS Tape! While helping to support the show. Most of us have want to be well and healthy mentally, emotionally, spiritually, and physically. Still, we can feel as if we lack the ability, confidence, or even desire to continue on the journey. In those moments, we have to be reminded that God cares about our desires and wants to help and empower us (Psalm 37:4, Philippians 4:13). God also let us know when He begins a good work in us, He will bring it to completion (Philippians 1:6). Guest Amanda Mims, MPH, is currently the Director of Patient Services and the Deputy Director of Billing for Jackson Hinds Comprehensive Health Center in Jackson, MS. She's an AASECT (American Association of Sexuality Educator, Counselors & Therapists) Certified Sexuality Educator, past AASECT Annual Conference Co-Chair (2016-2017), and a past Associate Editor for the American Journal of Sexuality Education (AJSE). In 2012, Mariotta was asked to be a member of the Founding Advisory Committee of the We Are BRAVE! Project, a project housed at Western States Center (Portland, OR.). This WOC (Women of Color) collective laid the groundwork for the innovative We Are BRAVE! cohort program and model for individual leaders and organizations who committed to implement an RJ (reproductive justice) lens and framework as a part of their active engagement and coalition building. This important work was - and remains - a core piece of the local political movement that resulted in Oregon passing the Reproductive Health Equity Act (RHEA) in 2017 – the most progressive reproductive health law in the United States. Mariotta has a well-earned reputation for informative, thoughtful, challenging and honest presentations, workshops and trainings about racial justice and equity, sexuality and social critique; and provides collaborative consultation with national organizations about racial justice in sexuality education and the field of Sexuality. With over 20 years of experience working in collaboration with people/organizations across various identities & perspectives, Mariotta remains deeply committed to curating, facilitating & sustaining spaces that support clear & accountable learning on the intersections of social justice, sexual health, equity and “actionable agitation”. She's fully invested in her ‘passion work' – to focus on Black folks/Black sexuality and move their experience from the margins to the center. References (content) Momodu, S. NORTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. — Independent musician and truck driver Tony Justice has been selected as the second person to be inducted into the inaugural class of the Howes Hall of Fame for 2020. “It is just a huge honor,” Justice said. “Something I never would have dreamed about or thought about. It brings a positive light on the industry that we have gathered that much support. It is a really big honor.” According to a press release from Howes, Justice has sold more than 100,000 albums in the past nine years — in addition to averaging more than 2,500 miles per week as a professional truck driver for the past 20 years. Justice said a lot of his inspiration for his music has come from being on the road. “I probably do 90 percent of my writing on the road, because I spend a lot of hours on the road,” Justice said. “You see a lot of good things and good people driving across America and crossing the Rocky Mountains. There is so much to see out there. There is a lot inspiration.” When Justice is not on the road, he is recording his music. He is currently working on his fifth album for the independent label he owns. He said trying to juggle trucking and music can be pretty challenging at times. “I've been writing songs and playing music since 1991. I enjoy the creativity side of it such as the writing and putting the stories out there of what we go through on the road,” he said. “We started putting music to it, and it was something I wanted to record. To watch it come to life is something I have really enjoyed, and the performing side of it is a lot of fun as well — those are the two highlights.” Justice has performed all over the country, including venues in South Dakota; Louisville, Kentucky; Las Vegas; Texas; Atlanta; and Charlotte, North Carolina. He said he also played clubs for nine years on the east coast. “We just felt like (Tony) was such an inspiration and ridiculously hard-working,” said Erika Howes, vice president of business development for Howes. “He makes music about the industry and he is hands-on with everything he does. “He cares about people and he interacts with his fans, and listens to their story. He is a really down-to-earth guy, especially with his fellow drivers. He entertains and encourages people. He is so proud to represent America's blue-collar working class,” she continued. “He embodies what we wanted to represent in the hall of fame.” Justice is a company driver for Everhart Transport Inc. out of Greenville, Tennessee. He said he has been fortunate that a lot of the company's customers are considered “necessities.” “His songs are about this industry and what we represent,” Howes said. “He is hands-on with his own label. It is such a unique story that we found to be really interesting and inspiring.” Justice has been around trucking his whole life. When he was growing up in eastern Kentucky, he said, his dad had three trucks. Justice and his siblings would service the trucks and wash them on the weekends. He said he can never remember a time where trucks were not a part of his life. “I am still driving full time,” he said. “I like to tell people, ‘I haven't quit my day job.' I'm still putting up with it because I enjoy doing it. I have a great support group at home.” Justice said that right now his biggest challenge is trying to take care of his mom, Sharon, and his wife, Misty. Misty had breast cancer last year but is currently in remission. “My mom lives with me, and my biggest challenge is that I don't bring anything (contagious) home,” Justice said. “I'm taking a lot of extra measures. We are used to going into stores and buying drinks or food, but now we have to get everything stocked in the truck and stay in my ‘bubble.' I have to distance myself from things I normally do. It is a change from normal.” The Howes Hall of Fame is part of the company's 100th anniversary. According to a press release, the Hall of Fame “serves as a platform for Howes to thank and acknowledge...

Dale Ralph Dale Earnhardt Sr.(April 29, 1951 – February 18, 2001), known professionally as Dale Earnhardt, was an American professional stock car racing driver and team owner, best known for his involvement in stock car racing for NASCAR. The third child of racing driver Ralph Earnhardt, he began his career in 1975 in the World 600 as part of the Winston Cup Series. Regarded as one of the most significant NASCAR drivers, Earnhardt won a total of 76 Winston Cup races over the course of his career, including the 1998 Daytona 500. He also earned seven NASCAR Winston Cup championships, tying for the most all-time with Richard Petty. His aggressive driving style earned him the nickname "The Intimidator". In February 2001, Earnhardt died instantly of injuries sustained, after he collided with Ken Schrader and crashed his car in the final lap of the Daytona 500 – an unexpected event that was widely lamented in the racing industry. Earnhardt has been inducted into numerous halls of fame, including the NASCAR Hall of Fame inaugural class in 2010. During the Daytona 500 at Daytona International Speedway on February 18, 2001, Earnhardt was involved in a three-car accident on the final lap of the race, in which he collided with Ken Schrader after making small contact with Sterling Marlin and hit the outside wall head-on. Earnhardt and Schrader's cars both slid off the track's asphalt banking into the infield grass just inside of turn 4. Seconds later, his driver Michael Waltrip won the race, with his teammate Dale Earnhardt Jr. finishing second. Earnhardt's death was officially pronounced at the Halifax Medical Center at 5:16 PM Eastern Standard Time (22:16 UTC). Nearly two hours later, NASCAR president Mike Helton announced Earnhardt's death. Earnhardt was 49 years old at the time of his death. An autopsy conducted on February 19, 2001 concluded that Earnhardt died instantly of blunt force trauma to his head due to the accident. It also reported that Earnhardt sustained a fatal basilar skull fracture. Days later, on February 22, public funeral services were held at the Calvary Church in Charlotte, North Carolina. He was awarded the Order of the Long Leaf Pine by North Carolina Governor Jim Hunt in 1994. He was inducted into the North Carolina Sports Hall of Fame in 1994. Earnhardt was named one of NASCAR's 50 Greatest Drivers in 1998. Earnhardt was posthumously named "NASCAR's Most Popular Driver" in 2001. This was the only time he received the award. He was posthumously inducted into the Motorsports Hall of Fame of America in 2002, a year after his death. He was inducted in the Oceanside Rotary Club Stock Car Racing Hall of Fame at Daytona Beach in 2004. He was inducted in the International Motorsports Hall of Fame in 2006. Earnhardt was named first on ESPN's list of "NASCAR's 20 Greatest Drivers" in 2007 in front of Richard Petty. He was inducted in the Inaugural Class of the NASCAR Hall of Fame on May 23, 2010. He was inducted into the Automotive Hall of Fame in 2006.

2013 College of Dental Medicine Whitecoat Ceremony - Inaugural Class of 2017 November 8, 2013
Music is the only thing we like discussing as much as sports, so it's only right that we finally give our take on establishing a Hip-Hop Hall of Fame. Our process was fairly straightforward: After much conversation and deliberation, we came up with eight artists and contributors for consideration, and from that pool we elected four unanimous selections. All in all, we feel our inaugural class represents figures who literally changed the industry or art form in such a way that it was never the same afterwards.
