This week, a University of Otago led study found that autistic pupils are significantly less likely to attend school regularly, particularly at a young age. The researchers of the study had information on 654,438 pupils, of which 8427 were autistic. They found that autistic pupils' regular attendance was 55.3%, compared to 62.5% for non-autistic pupils. They also found that autistic students would experience about 78 fewer school days on average per year compared to their non-autistic peers. Lead author, Dr Nick Bowden, of the Department of Paediatrics and Child Health, has said that "it's important to remember that behind the data are real children, whānau, and educators, trying to make it work, often without the tools or support they need". Producer Max spoke with Larah van de Meer, Research and Advocacy Manager at Autism New Zealand, about the recent study by the University of Otago.
For our weekly catchup with the Green Party's Ricardo Menendez-March, Oto spoke to him about the government's pre-budget announcement and cuts to the operating allowance, as well as the government rejection suggestions to review carbon subsidies and the Greens' call to ban engineered stone products. He speak to Volunteer president of the Associated New Zealand ME Society Fiona Charlton about a petition to roll back the government's benefit cuts for people experiencing long term hospitalisation. Max spoke to Tania Sawicki Mead, Head of Communications at UNICEF Aotearoa, about the announcement that UNICEF would be launching a groundbreaking project to 3D print prosthetic limbs for war-injured children in Gaza. And he spoke to Larah van de Meer, Research and Advocacy Manager at Autism New Zealand, about the recent study by the University of Otago, that showed that autistic pupils attend school at a noticeably lower rate than non-autistic students.

Drawing from the concept of the imago Dei, or image of God, Collin and Larah talk about how God's character and attributes are uniquely on display in and through autism. Every person is an image-bearer of the living God, created by Him with inherent value and worth as His creation. This episode is essential for those who are parenting, caring for, and supporting those who are autistic. Remembering that God created autism for His glory enables us as parents to take up the mantle of discipleship in our home. 1 Corinthians 12:9 says, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." Therefore, I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me.We would love to connect with you and hear your story. If you have any questions or just want to say hi, please do not hesitate to email us at raisingautisticdisciples@gmail.com.

We had a great time at our harvest in Larah last night. Thanks to all who decorated and thanks to Mark Smith for preaching so faithfully and clearly for us. You can see some photos of the beautifully decorated church (and the world's biggest pumpkin?!) and you can listen to Mark Smith's sermon on Mark 4:30-32 below.Mark 4:30-32 : And he said, “With what can we compare the kingdom of God, or what parable shall we use for it? It is like a grain of mustard seed, which, when sown on the ground, is the smallest of all the seeds on earth, yet when it is sown it grows up and becomes larger than all the garden plants and puts out large branches, so that the birds of the air can make nests in its shade.” World's biggest pumpkin?!

This week the staff at Café Mana in Cavan town couldn't believe it when their boss Eilish told them not to come into work because she had organised a day out to Rossnowlagh for them! When they first heard about it, they must have thought she was codding them! Then they probably hoped it was true, but once they were on the road to Rossnowlagh, they were fairly sure it was true. And when they felt the sand between their toes and smelt the sea and heard the waves breaking, they knew it was true! There's a huge difference between hoping something and knowing something. Hopes can be dashed and disappointed. But when you know something, it is certain, it is better than a hope. What about eternal life, is that something that you hope for, or something that you know that you have? Please join us this Sunday to find out that God wants us to know that we have eternal life. We live in the days of fake news and fact checkers—this week I saw on Facebook a photo of Heinz “Mayoreo” - apparently it is Oreo flavoured mayonnaise - what would you make of that? Well Facebook had a warning on the photo that it may have been an “altered image.”Since the Trump era, Fake news has become a term that we've become familiar with. But what about in church? Surely we should be able to believe what we hear in church? The Bible's answer to that may be a little surprising… Please join us this Sunday to find out more. Born in a small village just outside of Oxford to British and American parents, Ibiza yoga instructor, yoga therapist and founder of Ibiza Retreats, Larah Davis's journey into the wellness world came through injury. In conversation with TNM Coaching's Zoran Todorovic she discusses sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems, personal transformation and by extension, the transformation of humanity.
He's just like his dad! He's got his dad's eyes! Very often we can't help but display the family likeness, sometimes it's in what we look like, other times it may be our behaviour. In our reading this Sunday the apostle John is encouraging the Christians to display the family likeness as we look forward to the ultimate family reunion. Many of us start off on the “wrong foot” or wind up in a seemingly dead-end job. The kind of place where our growth and need for creativity are limited. While a few of us stay, there are those who decided to take the plunge for little soul searching until we strike gold. Today's guest, Larah Loutati — founder and CEO of her own company, Vitable Australia — grew up in the coastal town of Agadir, Morocco. Larah later moved to Europe to take a degree in communication and finance, and finally Australia to build her start-up. Larah left her seaside childhood town in Morocco to joining the corporate rat race in Europe, to breezing through hospitality in Bondi Beach. Until she found her calling for product development in nutrition. Enabling her to connect directly to customers with ways that could optimise their experience. She is also now expanding her vitamin business overseas. It is an incredible journey and even better story. Hit the play button now to listen in Laura's amazing journey to destiny and get inspired!

Last night we had a wonderful service in a beautifully decorated church building in Larah, a fantastic choir and a great crowd. Thank-you to everyone who made the evening so enjoyable and helpful. You can listen to the recording of the Address on The Fathers of Jesus at the link below and watch a video of the choir performing “What Child is this” at the link below, from where I was sitting I could only see the backs of the choir so you can only hear the choir, but can see Daithi playing classical guitar and Cleona playing the keyboard. Before the service, decorated and ready to go! Tea and coffee after the service

Larah's journey is one of the most exciting I ever heard. From starting as an entertainer on a Disney cruise ship to briefly finding herself living the high life in New York her story is a roller-coaster. Working hard to make it in the entertaining industry Larah supported herself working as a Bartender in an exclusive club in New York where she learned the rope of customer service, which came in handy years later. From acting to comedy we touch on the hardship of making people laugh and life in the industry. Is not until an intense experience as documentarian go south that Larah embraces the idea of life in academia; a bad turn that blossoms into finally opening the bagel shop that Edinburgh was missing. You could possibly find Larah Bross in one of her shops or online here: https://brossbagels.com/[Twitter The episode is also available on Itunes, Spotify and every other player you fancy (if not, give me a shout and I'll make it happen). Opening track prod. by Rion Richard Thanks for listening!!
