Created as a marketing platform without an ending, "It takes little to be big” is intended to be versatile, attract volunteers, and resonate with donors. Through market research, Big Brothers Big Sisters of America identified the main barriers people felt in regards to becoming mentors, then designed the campaign to intentionally change the narrative and encourage involvement. To say that Bozoma “Boz” Saint John redefines badassery is an understatement. She is undefeatable. A renegade executive with the career highlights to back up her boldness. And a woman who confidently walks the talk. As the Global Chief Marketing Officer at Netflix, the world's leading streaming entertainment service, Bozoma is bringing her marketing prowess, superstar resumé and larger-than-life personality to the streaming giant. When the news broke that Boz was hired as Global CMO at Netflix this past July, there was a collective “amen!” felt on social media. After all, Netflix releases original content that catches our collective attention, and Boz is the “OG” when it comes to having her (fabulously manicured) finger on the pulse of global pop culture. This episode of “Share Of Voice” is straight-up fire and will inspire you to go into 2021 with Big Bozoma Energy. She talks about living with urgency (“there's no need to wait for that thing you're going after”), being loud and speaking your truth, the importance of listening to your inner voice, and that disruptive moment when the world saw Bozoma, in a form-fitting fuschia dress and pink Louboutins, while delivering the keynote on stage at 2016's Apple Worldwide Developers Conference. High-powered marketing executive Bozoma has always been her authentic self throughout her illustrious career (so far spanning 20 years), proving there's no glory in playing small. A breath of fresh air in the corporate world, Saint John has been shaking things up her way, rocking a fearless attitude, bold personality, and an even bolder voice. She might seem playful, but this executive did not come here to play. At the beginning of her career, Boz got her start in marketing at Spike Lee's advertising agency, Spike DDB. She then went on to manage brands within the PepsiCo beverages portfolio, before becoming Head of Music and Entertainment Marketing at the CPG giant; followed by Head of Global Consumer Marketing at Apple Music & iTunes; then went on to serve as Chief Brand Officer at Uber; before taking on the CMO role for Endeavor. Boz also recently launched “The Badass Workshop,” comprised of five 60-minute classes based on the secrets of her success, to achieve the ultimate goal: the greatest self. And in January, the workshop will be presented as a session titled “Anatomy of a Badass”, at Harvard MBA school. You can also hear Boz's powerful voice in her podcast “Back to Biz with Katie and Boz,” alongside award-winning journalist Katie Couric. And in the words of Boz, “LET'S GOOOOOOO”! Produced by Dear Media
In this episode, Kenny Gravillis joins David Jensen and Cecily Chambers to talk about how he has navigated the waters of being a black-owned agency in the mostly white-dominated entertainment marketing field. Kenny is the co-founder and chief creative officer of Gravillis, Inc.—a boutique graphic design firm that specializes in television and film marketing campaigns. He takes us across his journey to finding success in his field along with the challenges he has encountered, especially when it comes to seeking representation, diversity, and inclusion, and later on, moving forward those needs in the industry. He then discusses how it is not his job as a marketer to make the audience feel comfortable and why it is important to be authentic and use power for good. Join this conversation as Kenny shares more about his experiences working with Spike Lee and Melina Matsoukas and designing iconic movie posters like Straight Outta Compton, Black Klansman, Bohemian Rhapsody, and Star Wars (to name a few). Plus, Kenny ponders, "Where is the black Seth Rogen?" today on the podcast.
