Josh Link is the Owner and CEO of Visionary Meals, a Newark-based meal prep company that he runs with his wife, Ashley. A former football standout, Josh was a running back and defensive cornerback for Granville and was all-state honorable mention for cornerback when the Blue Aces won their league his senior year. He then played cornerback and outside linebacker for four years at Wittenberg University when they won 3 NCAC conference championships. Josh's journey into the food industry began during his undergraduate years when he and Ashley came across a meal prep business in Texas. Inspired by the concept, they began brainstorming about bringing a similar business to Ohio1. After graduating, marrying, and moving back to Granville, they finalized a solid business plan, and Visionary Meals was born. Visionary Meals provides meals that Josh describes as "sourced locally, prepared perfectly and the most convenient". Despite the challenges of starting a business from scratch, Josh is proud of not giving up and is excited about the future of Visionary Meals1. His favorite aspect of his job is the networking side of things, creating relationships, and hearing testimonies of how Visionary Meals has changed people's lives. Mike DeWitt just completed his 24th season as the Head Men's Basketball Coach at Ohio Wesleyan University where he has compiled a record of 386-249. Including his time as a head coach at Hiram and Centre College DeWitt has an overall record of 436 – 325 over 29 seasons.He also served as an assistant men's basketball coach at Kenyon College for 2 seasons and was an assistant coach at Ohio Wesleyan for 3 seasons prior to that.During his playing career, DeWitt was a member of 3 conference championship teams. He was a 2-time All-NCAC selection at Ohio Wesleyan and helped the Bishops win NCAC championships in 1985-86 and 1986-87. As an experienced forensic interviewer, Linda discusses what keeps her motivated to continue this great work and how continued learning is essential for interviewers in the field.Linda is a child forensic interview specialist, multi-disciplinary team facilitator, and senior trainer for the National Children's Advocacy Center (NCAC) in Huntsville, AL. She has conducted more than 500 trainings for the NCAC across the U.S. and abroad. She has presented workshops at local, regional, state, national, and international child abuse conferences. Her areas of expertise include child forensic interviewing, child development, and working within the multidisciplinary team setting. Linda provides supervision and consultation on forensic interviews locally and nationally. She previously conducted forensic interviews at four other children's advocacy centers (CACs): Prescott House CAC in Birmingham, AL, The Safehouse in Albuquerque, NM, the CAC of the Bluegrass in Lexington, KY, and Gateway CAC in Morehead, KY. In addition to providing forensic interviews, Linda served as clinical director for the Prescott House, NCAC, and The Safehouse. While in New Mexico, Linda was the project director of the Mobile Interviewing Project, which serves the Navajo Nation and Zuni Pueblo, as a program of All Faiths Receiving Home in Albuquerque. She has also served as clinical director, director of victim services, and acting executive director of the Crisis Center of Jefferson County in Alabama. She has over 30 years of experience in therapy and advocacy work with victims and extensive training experience regionally, nationally, and internationally. Linda received her master's degree in education from the University of Pittsburgh and is a licensed professional counselor.

EPISODE SUMMARY When examining the multidisciplinary team response to child abuse in communities, there are two principles that I believe to must be considered. The first is that MDT's are sophisticated and complex systems that are tasked with providing a coordinated and comprehensive response to child abuse. The second is that no single discipline on an MDT can adequately meet the needs of a victim of child abuse. One would think that such a system tasked with such an important mandate would have a clear leadership structure to ensure that the best possible services are being provided. However, that is not always the case. In this episode, I speak with Chris Newlin, the Executive Director of the National Children's Advocacy Center who shares with us a conceptual model of multilevel shared leadership for MDTs that provides a framework and pathway to more robust and sustainable MDT response to child abuse in your community. GUEST: Chris Newlin, MS LPC, is the Executive Director of the National Children's Advocacy Center where he is responsible for providing leadership and management of the NCAC and participating in national and international training and leadership activities regarding the protection of children. Christopher Finan is NCAC's executive director. He previously served as president of the American Booksellers Foundation for Free Expression (ABFE), the bookseller's voice in the fight against censorship. He has been an advocate for free expression since 1982. Prior to joining ABFE, he was executive director of Media Coalition, a trade association that defends the First Amendment rights of producers and distributors of media. Keri Alexander Luchowski serves as the Executive Director of the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC), one of the leading conferences in NCAA Division III. She has served in this role since 2011 and has filled assistant and associate executive director positions since she joined the league during the 1999-00 academic year. A 1992 graduate of Wheeling Jesuit University, she served three years as the communications coordinator of the National Professional Soccer League before joining the NCAC. Alexander Luchowski is a member of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), Division III Commissioners Association (DIIICA), the National Association of Division III Athletic Administrators (NADIIIAA) and the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA), as well as the Women Leaders in College Sport. Ninth grader Brandi Levy was frustrated when she didn’t make her high school’s varsity cheerleading team so she posted an intemperate video about it on Snapchat to her 250 “friends.” Four years later, that video, which led to her suspension from the junior varsity cheer team, will take center stage at the United States Supreme Court. Mahanoy Area School District v. B.L. is a case that University of Florida Professor Frank LoMonte says will determine “the future of student free speech.” On today’s episode of So to Speak: The Free Speech Podcast, we are joined by LoMonte, who also leads the Brechner Center for Freedom of Information, and FIRE Program Officer Lindsie Rank to discuss the Mahanoy case, which could answer some important lingering questions about student speech rights off-campus and on social media. There is Hope...for the Dutchmen to make some noise in this conference as well NCAC (at 26:00) Wooster still has plenty of top-tier talent but enters the season with far more inexperience than normal Denison has some key players back for #Year5 and a fearsome lineup, but will need some of the younger pitching to step up DePauw and Wittenberg could definitely make some noise as well OAC (at 40:30) Heidelberg has some of their 2019 World Series contributors back for #Year5, which should help them continue to contend Baldwin Wallace looks to have a pretty loaded lineup but a very young pitching staff Otterbein, John Carroll, Mount Union, Ohio Northern will surely all be in the mix as well Uh oh...is Marietta back? Justin Newell is assistant athletic director and director of the Kenyon Athletic Center (KAC). As director, Newell is responsible for the oversight of the 263,000 square foot KAC, as well as all outdoor field and recreation space. Furthermore, his responsibilities with the athletic department are to act as a liaison to other Kenyon College departments, such as student affairs, maintenance, campus safety, and alumni affairs. Newell will take on all capital projects and facility improvement opportunities to best provide for the student-athlete and Kenyon College experience. Finally, Newell will serve as the primary game administrator for all NCAC and NCAA championships that are hosted by Kenyon College. Newell comes to Kenyon after four years as the director of facilities at Tulane University. In his time at Tulane he served as the game administrator for all events hosted by Tulane, including the opportunity to serve as the tournament director for the 2012 NCAA men’s basketball Final Four. Newell graduated with a Master’s of Education in sports administration from Millersville University in 2005. He received his Bachelor’s of Science in general agriculture with a concentration and minor in wildlife conservation and history. Travis Schwab is entering his 6th year as the head men’s basketball coach at Muskingum University. Schwab coached Marcus Dempsey who was named the Academic All-American of the Year for Division III men's basketball in 2019-2020 and was a two-time Academic All-American (First Team 2019-20, Third Team 2017-18) Schwab arrived at Muskingum after a highly successful eight-year tenure at Wittenberg University. Under Schwab’s tutelage, numerous Tiger student-athletes were honored with All-NCAC accolades. Prior to Wittenberg, Schwab was assistant men’s basketball coach at Kenyon College during the 2006-07 campaign. He helped lead the Lords to double-digit wins for the first time in more than a decade and developed multiple student-athletes who were recognized with All-NCAC honors. Schwab started his collegiate coaching career at Heidelberg University as a graduate assistant coach from 2004-06. Schwab, a 2004 Ohio Wesleyan University graduate, is one of only two only players in NCAC history to be selected first-team all-conference four consecutive years during his career in the Ohio Wesleyan program. Following his senior season, Schwab was named to the prestigious National Association of Basketball Coaches All-America Team. Schwab's 1,985 career points rank second on the Ohio Wesleyan career scoring list and third on the NCAC's all-time list. My next guest and I had a good laugh after we closed out our interview because she was totally singing my tune and we hadn't even practiced! Anita Prather Harvell calls herself both an IT geek and an artist. Her artistic resume is extensive… playing woodwinds and percussion in local pit orchestras, singing with a chorus, performing theatrically on stage, and, teaching marching band and color guard across the country. She's even married to a musician spouse. A love for the arts is in her blood.Today, Anita is President of the North Country Arts Council. She is on the board of the local chamber of commerce and she works as an IT Specialist for Family Morale, Welfare, and Recreation on Fort Drum. She is also a website manager and does the social media and PR for a wide variety of nonprofit organizations.For a few moments, she put all that on pause to talk with us about her work with the Arts Council. Rural and Resourceful Rural Children's Advocacy Centers across the US are faced with determining how to provide direct services to children and families with limited resources in often uniquely large service areas. In this episode, Melissa Brunner talks with two rural CAC Directors in Georgia, who are part of a larger group of rural directors participating in a Rural Think Tank project. These directors share how they handle the challenges of finding creative ways to provide services as well as highlighting how they want to shift the narratives surrounding rural CAC's. My guest for today's episode is Capital University Head Basketball Coach Damon Goodwin. Coach Goodwin just completed his 26th season on the sidelines at Cap. His coaching career began in 1986, after a stellar playing career at the University of Dayton under the legendary Don Donoher. Following graduation Goodwin spent one season as a graduate assistant to Donoher before taking over as the head coach at Fairborn High School for two seasons. He was then offered a chance to join former UD assistant Larry Hipsher when Coach Hipsher was hired to be the head coach at Wittenberg University in Springfield. Coach Goodwin spent 4 years working with Coach Hipsher and one year working with Bill Brown after Hipsher departed Wittenberg for Stetson University. After 5 years and 5 NCAC titles at Wittenberg, Coach Goodwin was hired to take over the program at Capital before the 1994-95 season. And the rest, as they say, is history! Children's Advocacy Centers across the US are faced with determining how to transition in-person direct services for children and families to a process that takes precautionary measures against the spread of COVID-19. In part III of my conversation with Eli Danson from North Carolina Aquatic Club, we discuss his work with the advanced 11-12 group at NCAC, in which he transformed the group from having 3 11-12 JO qualifers to 21 in a two-year span (3:35). We then discuss his work with the high performance Senior group at NCAC, as well as with the UNC collegiate swimmers. We discuss topics such as transforming the culture of a practice group (4:58), the difference between "good" age group swimmers and "elite" (29:40)- from physical and mental skills to practice habits and a willingness to go the extra 1 to 2 percent; the importance of a great high elbow catch in and what goes into the process of leveraging the water at an elite level (44:34), and much more.

To say Whitney Sayuri Aragaki speaks passionately about education is to make a vast understatement. Over a wide ranging conversation about learning “holistically,” indigenous ways of knowing and doing, teacher empowerment, building educator capacity, preparation for 21st century workspaces, student engagement and what makes her hometown, Hilo, so special, her voice came through, time and again, loud and very clear. Whitney is a science teacher at Waiakea High School on Hawaiʻi Island. In a personal statement she wrote: “My overarching aspirations in the next twenty years of my career aim to: 1) contextualize science and math education to be grounded in both western and indigenous ways of knowing: 2) continue to empower teachers to gain greater control over their curricula, and: 3) reestablish teacher credibility to make decisions for the school and district systems.” Whitney is a PhD Candidate in Curriculum Studies at the College of Education at UH Manoa. She has a MS in Tropical Conservation Biology and Environmental Science. Her thesis title was: “Detection of susceptibility to risk factors for type-2 diabetes mellitus in a multi-ethnic community in Hawai‘i.” She graduated from Summa Cum Laude from the school were she now teaches, Waiakea HS. She is a National Board Certified Teacher and a teacher of the NCAC model-certified Public Services Academy. In a Hawaiʻi Department of Education newsletter she wrote: “When we allow students, at any grade level, to create their learning spaces and engage in projects aligned to their needs, they rise to the challenge, exceed expectations, and develop a strengthened sense of belonging in their community.” Amen, Whitney. But before getting into the beasts of the Mideast, we have a brief discussion (at 0:45) about the first Top 25 poll of the season and why we should probably all just relax for a few weeks. We then begin our regional preview (at 4:00) with the AMCC, where La Roche is sure to reign supreme again with literally the entire lineup returning (!!!) and some elite pitching as well. Next (at 7:20), we head to the HCAC where we ponder just how repeatable the offensive juggernaut known as the Franklin Grizzlies could be in 2019, and why Earlham might be best suited to challenge them. Then (at 13:40) we head to the NCAC where Jordan does his best to suppress his Wooster bias while also objectively assessing a team that should definitely be one of the best teams in the country once again. Also, how will Wabash follow up their magical 2018 run? And can Denison stay in the mix for a postseason spot? After that, we dive into the outstanding OAC (at 26:00), where Baldwin Wallace and Otterbein look like a cut above talent-wise, but we are certainly done making the mistake of counting out Marietta (also Heidelberg and Ohio Northern are no joke). We then head (at 36:55) slightly north to the MIAA, where the Adrian Bulldogs will likely continue to dominate, despite losing D-III legend/friend of the podcast Tommy Parsons to graduation/pro ball. Our final conference spotlight (at 40:45) touches on the PAC, where Washington & Jefferson will likely return to the top of the standings after a relatively disappointing 2018. Finally, we touch on the two independent teams in the region. First (at 42:40), we discuss Case Western and their frustrating snub last season, the development of Rocco Maue, and why we still expect a lot from the Spartans in 2019. Then (at 48:12), we briefly touch on the newly independent Thomas More Saints, who are giving it one last ride in D-III before becoming an NAIA school. Suddenly the end of January is upon us! Where has the season gone? We are past the halfway point, conference action is now in it's second go-around (for most), and the matter of regional rankings and conference tournaments is becoming more real. Teams who have had unbelievable starts, but have not faltered, are now in the spotlight. The question is no longer "can they keep this up?" But rather, the question has become, "how did they get this good?" Tonight, we ask versions of that last question. We will hear from St. Thomas who hasn't been the MIAC dominator the last few years, but is back on top in a far more competitive conference. Oswego men have already knocked the SUNYAC boss, Plattsburgh off the pedestal. And Southern Virginia women have startled the entire conference. We find out how a first-year coach with no Division III experience has shocked everyone. Plus, we chat with Oberlin's women's coach who has not only preached diversity, but created an environment for his program and the conference that reiterates open and safe environments. Baby Driver tells the story of a young getaway driver who listens to music constantly to sound track his great escapes and combat tinnitus. The cast includes Kevin Spacey, Jon Hamm, Lily James and Jamie Foxx, but as Kirsty Lang found out, music is the big star. The artwork had been bought by the Walker Art Centre in Minneapolis but after its installation in their sculpture garden there were protests from the local Native American community who said the work trivialised the hanging of 38 Dakota men by the US Army in 1862 - the largest mass execution in US history. Bob Ghiloni has served as the head men’s basketball coach at Denison since 2002. within two years, he had turned around a program that had endured seven losing seasons. During his tenure he has led the DU basketball program to a third-place finish in 2005, an appearance in the NCAC Championship game in 2012 and the NCAC Championship in 2016. In 2005 he was named the NCAC’s Coach of the Year. This year, he led the Men’s basketball team to a 22-5 record, it’s best record in the history of the school But that’s the surface stuff. The man behind the program is a coach’s coach. He influences these young men, the athletic department, the Denison Campus and the community in hundreds of ways. As Executive Director of Deirdre's House, Maria Vinci-Savettiere, Esq, has combined her legal knowledge and business acumen to expand and improve the programs offered to child victims, increase cooperation among agencies and organizations utilizing the facilities, and bring Deirdre's House back to financial stability. The National Children's Advocacy Center website lists CACs across the country. Since 1985, it has revolutionized our nation's response to child sexual abuse. More than 54,000 child abuse professionals have been trained by the NCAC. The social service and the criminal justice systems don't always work together in an effective manner that the children can trust. This common problem adds to children's emotional distress, and cause a segmented, repetitious, and often frightening experience for the child victims. The child advocacy center model pulls together law enforcement, criminal justice, child protective service, medical and mental health workers onto one coordinated team.
We recently stopped in at the Newton Community Access Cable studios to talk with Regina Ramsey about the latest production of G.L.'s Beyond Measure, which seems to be developing unexpected legs. Written for an character in her late 50s and another in her late 30s, its recent productions have been performed by much younger actresses.
