Scalloped Hammerhead sharks are found all over the world, but very little is known about them. So when researcher Andrea López from the University of Western Australian discovered large schools of Scalloped Hammerheads in a marine park near Perth, it was an opportunity to learn more about this endangered species.Remarkably, even though the Scalloped Hammerhead is considered at risk of extinction, it is still legal to hunt it in Australian waters — even in marine parks. In this episode, we chat to Andrea about what needs to change to protect this amazing species.Image: Kris-Mikael Krister

In episode 087 we are making Scalloped Potatoes and Ham for dinner. This is not your average Scalloped Potato recipe, it is absolutely deluxe. I literally tested this recipe over 10 times to get it just right. It has layers of tender potatoes in a really delicious onion cream sauce, and topped with cheese that gets a golden crust as it bakes. Serve this Scalloped Potato dish with some roasted veggies and dinner rolls. It's a great way to use up leftover ham or have as a Sunday Family Dinner. Show Notes Page: https://momsdinner.net/episode-087-scalloped-potatoes/ Recipes Mentioned: Scalloped Potatoes and Ham Lasagna Roasted Broccoli Broccoli Bacon Salad Raspberry Jello Salad Next Week I hope you will join me every Thursday for a new dinner idea! Next week we will be making Instant Pot Carnitas for dinner! (It's a good one to save for Cinco De Mayo) Grab the ingredients and join me then.
Welcome back to our weekend Cabral HouseCall shows! This is where we answer our community's wellness, weight loss, and anti-aging questions to help people get back on track! Check out today's questions: Anonymous: A family member had surgery and a ct scan was done a few days after and the finding was this “Mild right apical linear scarring/atelectasis”. Is this something that will go away or can be corrected? She is a bit worried and alarmed at the finding. Thanks so much Holly: I have listened to your previous podcast talking about a scalloped tongue being digestive system dysfunction related and not the teeth marks on the tongue. My tongue gets very definitive teeth marks on it, even the mark from the edge of my Invisalign tray, especially after sleeping. The insides of my cheeks also have lines that line up along my occlusal plane more pronounced after sleeping. I used to grind my teeth horribly but it has reduced significantly after Invisalign working on my uneven bite and figuring out I have adrenal fatigue and working on stress. I do have adrenal fatigue according to taking the htma, dizziness on standing if I don't get in extra sodium, I'm prone to anxiety. Now taking adrenal soothe, dns, magnesium, i definitely feel better but my tongue still looks off Patti: Hi Dr. Cabral: Hoping you are well. I really value your opinion. I know you are not into mega dose vitamin therapy. What are your thoughts on it for breast cancer treatment (B17, C, amino acid, ozone & ultraviolet light)? Also, thoughts on baicalin & vitamin E for breast cancer? Appreciate any help you can provide. Thank you Anonymous: Hi Dr. Cabral! Thank you so much for everything that you do for the community. I was just on your website and went under your personal resources and I noticed that you have partnered up with BeautyCounter! I've been hearing so many amazing things about this company and how they are actually working with legislation to get laws passed to get safer and cleaner products into the hands of everyone. What I especially love about BeautyCounter is that all of their products are EWG verified. Which is a very big deal to me. They have so many amazing products that I want to try but I'm not quite sure where to start. I want to start replacing the “not so healthy”products I've been using and replace them with cleaner options. What beautycounter products do you think I should start with first? Simon: Hi Dr Cabral, with so much talk about fasting one thing I hear surprisingly little about is the impact of reducing your window for taking supplements (vitamins/minerals/antioxidants). I do a daily 12-14hr fast and occasional 16-18hr fast and always wonder whether I should be taking supplements outside of my eating window? Are there downsides to reducing your window for taking supplements? If so what would you recommend taking? I've recently started taking an organic greens powder upon waking as I heard this also assists with detox. Thanks! Welcome back again Slushies! For this podcast, we had a full house ready to discuss three poems by Brandon Thomas DiSabatino. The first poem was tuscarawas river song. Surprisingly, this piece initially erupted a discussion on the beautiful descriptions of a river, turned quickly to a dialogue on drugs. Trigger warning: This topic could possibly hit home for many of our listeners as opioids have become a pervasive problem, especially in our Slushpile’s home base of Philadelphia. We learned more about opiod overdose than we wanted to know. But forget the drug problem! Joe Zang, our intrepid sound engineer, expressed the top problem today might just be the Ohio-ians, and he revealed his Instagram handle, so…go ahead and slide into his DM’s! Challenge of the Day: Try saying “hog-tied whippoorwills” three times in a row as quickly as you can! Most of us could not even say it once. Next up, a portrait of cave fires on walls as the first sitcom in syndication. The first thing that caught the eye of our crew members was the structure of the poem, which had many of us stumped: Its center juxification had the gang in a quite a tizzy! No need to fret, we think Joe may have cracked the reasoning behind this peculiar format. Listen in to find out Joe’s theory. The last poem discussed was a department of corrections state-of-mind blues, which many of described perfectly as a fresh piece with crazy imagery and strong tone. According to Marion, it was quite witty as one of the lines specifically winked at her. Plot twist! The final verdict left the cast stunned and even had some begging for a recount. Listen in to hear the final decision on this piece. As this podcast comes to an end, Tim Fitts announced that Patrick Blagrave, a regular voter in Painted Bride Quarterly’s democratic process, started a magazine of his own, the Prolit and no! Tim did not just promote the new mag because his flash piece was published in it! Finally, Marion gave a much needed thank you to Habib University's student journal. Habib is located in Karachi, Pakistan. We love to see students being afforded access to a creative writing outlets—around the world! He used to take pride in this fact, and has since been in contact with several psychic mediums as to the possibility of a posthumous rain-check performance for Mr. Williams to fulfill his outstanding contract. After several years of minimum wage, minimum effort work throughout the Midwest and Florida, he washed-up in New York and began writing as a way to compensate for the fact he would never be drafted into the NBA. https://keywebco.com/blogs/news/scalloped-potatoes-recipes-you-will-love Do you enjoy a good helping of Scalloped Potatoes? Below are a few recipes and tips. Go for Russet potatoes or Yukon Golds. Russets have the most starch and make the creamiest sauce, but Yukon tends to hold their shape a little better (although your sauce will be slightly milkier). Cut the potatoes to between 1/8- and 1/4-inch thick. If you have a dark, cool closet away from the heat of the kitchen, store them there. Also, it's best to take them out of the plastic bag and put them in a basket or breathable cotton sack. And finally, make sure they are totally dry before storing long-term. Damp potatoes will rot or sprout faster. You can make potatoes au gratin in advance and then reheat them on the stove, in the oven or in the microwave, making it easier to plan and cook for a large dinner. If raw, once the potato is cut you can store in the refrigerator, covered with water for 12-24 hours. Be sure to keep submerged in water to prevent slices from turning gray or brown. Add a tablespoon of white wine vinegar or concentrated lemon juice to a gallon of water to help keep the potatoes from turning dark. SCALLOPED POTATOES Serves 8 There are almost no recipes for Scalloped Potatoes in my cookbooks and food textbooks. The reason: There is no classic recipe. You can do whatever you want. So I decided to make Scalloped Potatoes that are rich in cheese. I used mild cheddar, but you can use any cheese you prefer. With no traditional recipe, you are free to experiment. Ingredients: 21⁄4 pounds (1kg) potatoes, thinly sliced 3 tablespoons butter 2 tablespoons flour 11⁄2 cups (~350ml) milk or cream 11⁄2 cups (4 oz./113g) shredded cheddar cheese Salt & pepper to taste Optional (to be added to the white sauce): The leaves from a few sprigs fresh thyme Chopped fresh Italian parsley 2 cloves garlic, minced Any ingredients of your choosing Directions: Slice the potatoes about 1/8 inch (3mm) thin and place in a large bowl of cold water. Set aside. Butter a shallow baking dish. Melt the butter in a saucepan over medium heat and then add the flour. Mix until combined. Reduce the heat to low and cook, stirring constantly, for about a minute. This is a “white roux”. Add the milk or cream and whisk until blended to create a “white sauce” (one of the “mother sauces”). If thin, the sauce can be cooked over medium-low heat, stirring constantly, until thickened, about 5 minutes. Remove from the heat and add two thirds (1 cup) of the shredded cheese and stir until the cheese melts and is thoroughly blended into the sauce. Season with salt and pepper. Add other herbs you like. Set aside. Heat your oven to 400°F (200°C) with a rack in the upper third. Drain the sliced potatoes thoroughly. Arrange a layer in the bottom of the baking dish, using about a third of the potatoes, and then spoon about half the cheese sauce over the slices, spreading evenly. Arrange a second layer of potatoes, like the first, and cover with the remaining sauce. Finish the dish by arranging the remaining potato slices in a scalloped pattern on top (you might not use all the potatoes, depending on the size of the baking dish). Sprinkle the remaining cheese on top, distributing evenly. Bake on the upper rack for 50 to 60 minutes, until the potatoes in the center are tender and the cheese is browned on top. Start watching the dish closely after about 30 minutes. If the cheese appears to be browning too rapidly, cover the dish lightly with a sheet of aluminum foil. Remove from the oven and allow to rest about 10 minutes, and then serve. In an alternate future, it's 1981 and the UN allies have been at war with the Soviet Union for six years. In that short amount of time, the world has been reduced to an irradiated husk of itself. Standing victorious over a fallen world, the Soviets unexpectedly find themselves overwhelmed by a new technology developed by the Allies. A technology that will turn the tide of the war. Quote: “I think intelligence in the universe is very rare.” —Dr. James Rice, NASA, Mars Exploration Rover Geology Team Leader About: 2017, let’s start anew! Let’s just pack up, say our goodbyes and march (drive, fly or sail) to greener pastures. But where to? Canada is cold around this time of year, Europe is in limbo, and everywhere else has spotty Wi-Fi (it doesn’t). The globalized world where opportunity was meant to be infinite is really just flawed and finite like everything else. And it’s somewhat daunting to think, this is it. But for some folks, the answer to humanity’s woes is simply a matter of looking up and towards Mars. For what it’s worth, there’s no Comcast on Mars, so the Wi-Fi can’t be too bad. I'm excited to bring you 3 new community questions and one free workout program download today! So, let's get right to them - Here are the community questions for today's Cabral #HouseCall: Carol: First, I started listening to your podcasts a couple months ago and love them and really appreciate that you take time out of your busy schedule to do this. I listened to your constipation podcast yesterday on Colon Cleansing: Colonics vs. Enemas vs. Powders vs. Teas. I think you mentioned you were going to do another podcast on constipation so I thought I'd send my question to you to see if you can help. I have had chronic constipation for as long as I can remember. Even as a young girl I remember having stabbing abdominal pain. I've been to many doctors. Some have patted me on the head and sent me home, some have told me to eat more fiber and/or take fiber. Fiber doesn't help. I eventually went to a Holistic doctor and he recommended that I take Magnesium. Finally something that got things moving! Unfortunately, I have to take pretty high doses (800-1200mg) every night and even that doesn't guarantee that I will have a bowel movement the next day. I don't know if people realize how uncomfortable it can be to not have a bowel moment for days and/or weeks! Do you have any thoughts or suggestions? Thank you! Carolina: Thank you so much for the Holiday Workout PDF! I was one of those people that only did cardio because I thought it was the best way to lose weight or stay in shape. But then I started training with weights after listening to your podcasts. I'm still an amateur at this so this is tool is a great help. Please keep them coming! Thank you Dr. Cabral, I am so glad I found your podcast! http://StephenCabral.com/292 Michele: Hi Stephen Cabral, I've noticed the sides of my tongue appear 'scalloped' I'm wondering what might be causing this, and what I can do to fix this. I looked up some causes online but don't feel I fall into any of these categories. I don't have HBP or thyroid problems, and I'm not dehydrated. I am in very good health and I exercise 3-4 days a week. Thank you for any information you can pass on to me. I love your podcast! Warm regards, Michele Mike: Hi Stephen, I've been suffering from asthma for as long as I can remember. However in my late teens/ early adult years, asthma seemed none existent for many years. Then all of a sudden it came back and I've been suffering ever since. Cold weather, smoke, stress, being around animals all seem to bring on an asthma attack. So does working out, however when I work out for a long period of time, that seems to help. Any recommendations on what I can do to control it better or get rid of asthma all together? Thank you for tuning into another week of the #CabralConcept - I appreciate you! - - - Show Notes: http://StephenCabral.com/302 - - - Get Your Question Answered: http://StephenCabral.com/askcabral

I seemed to have forgotten to explain in episode 96 what exactly scalloped fretboards are to those who may not know. The main point though is to talk about my favorite guitar magazine and the changes they just implemented for better or worse.
