McGrath emphasizes the importance of understanding eschatology not just as a theological concept, but as a framework for political engagement and social justice. The discussion delves into the historical roots of eschatological thinking, the distinction between expectation and anticipation as articulated by Heidegger, and the implications of linear versus cyclical time. They end by delving into current environmental issues and a call to action.Make sure to check out Dr. McGrath's book: Political Eschatology

If so, was it successful? The book contains some of the most vital conversations from the podcast with scholars such as Murray Stein, Paul Bishop, Sean McGrath, Pia Chaudhari, Jason Smith and David Tacey. The introduction and epilogue of the book is an attempt to distill the insights from the conversations of the last years, and work as an introduction to Jung's relationship to Christianity and its relevance for today.Special thank you to my editor Christina Galego who helped translate my broken written English into a pleasant reading experience.

We also celebrate the creative forces that were Peter Weller, Michael Apted, Teri Garr, and Corey Haim, while wondering what happened to Christopher Collet, all of whom were great in this 1984 heightened family trauma drama. Come for the discussion of seeing a movie with your mom that traumatized you both, stay for tons of talk praising Corey Haim, speculation that RoboCop derailed Peter Weller's acting career, and the offer of unequivocal proof that Sam was lying about his baseball-playing past.Chad can be found online at: InstagramChad's work can be found at: The Village Voice and LA Weekly. It's no longer a choice between being either a power pitcher or a finesse pitcher today. You need to be both, velocity with command. Command is what separates pitchers from the pack today. Sean graduated from Lafayette College in 2012 and spent the summer competing in Independent ball before becoming the youngest division 1 pitching coach the next year at Iona College. He then spent the next seven years in division 1 baseball before making the move to professional baseball; working three years in the Mariners organization. After spending the 2022 season with the Double A team, he took the pitching coach opportunity at the University of Iowa and is now in his second season. In your eight years of college baseball, you've developed 6 pitchers who have been drafted in the top 8 rounds, including MLB all-star George Kirby who is the definition of a command artist. A great discussion about training and measuring pitching control, command, sequencing and what it takes to pitch at higher levels of baseball. “Somewhere Jung says that the only evil is unconsciousness  and this, I think touches to your work Don, that this growth in consciousness, which psychoanalysis aims towards, has to be understood as a moral drive towards  the good.”Episode description:What's the role of conscience, ethics, and morals in psychological development and individuation? To investigate this question we invited again the Toronto-based psychoanalyst Donald Carveth (Episode 12) and Philosophy & Theology professor Sean McGrath (Episode 3) for a conversation. As a base for our discussion, we have read the important 1958 Jung essay ‘A psychological view of conscience'. You can access it through our new Substack page. Donald Carveth is the author of the book "The still small voice: Psychoanalytic reflections on guilt and conscience” (Routledge, 2013). He runs a popular Youtube channel on psychoanalysis and also make some of his readings available on his website https://www.doncarveth.com/Sean McGrath is a  Canadian philosopher and Professor of Philosophy at Memorial University of Newfoundland. Dreams of Consciousness Podcast Episode 225 features an interview with Mark Wallace, Ria Wallace, and Mike Flory of Cartilage. San Francisco's Cartilage are part of the boom that the Bay Area metal scene has been experiencing recently. The five-piece play grindcore/gore metal in the vein of Exhumed and Impaled - not surprising, since those two veteran bands are friends and mentors to Cartilage, and Impaled's Sean McGrath even designed their logo. I spoke with guitarists Mike Flory and Ria Wallace, and vocalist Mark Wallace about how they started the band, and their relationship with the other death/grind bands around the Bay Area. We also talked about recording their sophomore album The Deader The Better in Matt Harvey's studio, and the contributions members of Exhumed, Impaled, and Pounder made to the album. Today we spoke with Bryan Heystee, a PhD Candidate working with Dr. Sean McGrath and Dr. Scott Johnston at the Memorial University of Newfoundland. Bryan's research addresses questions such as: What is 'technology' and what does it do? Technology is everywhere around us and part of all of our lives. We often question this or that piece of technology; for example, what should we make of gene editing? But it is less common to ask what technology in general is. Most people take it for granted that they know what technology is: and that it is obvious and needs no careful reflection. To address some of these questions, Bryan is studying the Canadian philosopher Dr. George Grant. Grant is one of Canada's most famous philosophers and public intellectuals. He argued that technology is not simply a set of tools or machines that we use, but a way of life and a way of thinking.

One of the key elements of good public policy is public engagement. It is crucial that the voices of those for whom public policies are in fact made are heard by policymakers. The usual form that public engagement takes is outreach. One organization, however, is looking to fundamentally change the way that communities are involved in the policy process, especially in the context of climate change. In today’s episode, Thea Koper sits down with Dr. Sean McGrath and Kyla Bruff, co-founders of the non-profit organization For a New Earth (FANE), based in Newfoundland and Labrador. Rather than leading one-sided outreach initiatives, this organization is focused on breaking down the barriers that exist between academia, the policy world, and local communities. FANE also recognizes the deep value that art, spirituality, and direct engagement with nature can bring to public engagement. We begin our conversation by discussing how this form of engagement is crucial not only for action on climate change, but for raising the ecological consciousness of a province. We then discuss specific policy recommendations for Newfoundland and Labrador pertaining to climate change. Today's guests are Dr. Sean J. At one point he had made the San Francisco scene his hang, but since then he’s been around quite a few comedy scenes. Podcasting is the latest scene and he’s been quietly dropping episodes since 2011. This week Tom Rhodes Radio makes a mighty leap up 283 places to get into the Stitcher’s Comedy Top 100. He interviews guest Andy Kindler (who visited us during Succotash Epi55.) SModcast/FEaB After watching this show ricochet around in the Stitcher Top 100 for the past few weeks, I finally listened to enough of it to find out that FEaB stands for Four Eyes And Beard, which are indicative of the two hosts – Matt Myra, who is also part of The Nerdist with Chris Hardwick, and Scott Mosier, who partners with Kevin Smith on the original Smodcast. (I’m not sure, but I think the Smodcast Network is slowly taking over all of podcasting. They’re like the Borg of the internet.) Live Wire! Radio With Luke Burbank, Courtenay Hameister, Sean McGrath, Patricia Ferguson, Live Wire! Radio is a audio variety show recorded in front of an enthusiastic live audience from the Alberta Rose Theatre in Portland. They've got music, conversation, and sketch comedy. It's "radio variety for the A.D.D. generation", as they say on their homesite. Guests this episode include Jen Kirkman, Dan Savage, and The Builders & The Butchers. But our clip is one of their home-brewed sketches about a somewhat different genie… Pablo Francisco: Anything GoesComedian Pablo Francisco has joined up with the ever-growing Sideshow Network to enter the rolls of comics-with-podcasts. In the clippage we share, he takes a look at someone with a lot of fame and fortune that also recently revealed that he’s spent millions on blow. About Last Night Adam Ray and Brad Williams are 55 episodes into this podcast and going strong. Both are comedians, and both are irreverent. Adam Ray’s in that new movie The Heat that just opened, and their guest this episode is pop culture TV host Michael Ho, who also got to interview President Obama after the last election’s disastrous first debate. (I also reviewed this show on last week's This Week In Comedy Podcasts on Splitsider.com - check it out!) Proudly ResentsThis is Adam Spiegleman’s podcast where he and assorted friends like to take movie apart at the seams. Sometime old movies. Sometimes new movies. And, in the case of one recent episode, kids movies. Specifically, Adam invites a friend over with her kids to talk about what they thought of TWO kids movies – A Talking Cat? and Tommy & The Cool Mule. Kids make great reviewers because they pretty much always tell the truth…when you can get them to talk. Air-Raid PodcastWe’ve featured some clippage from the Air-Raid podcast out of Seattle before, with host Aaron Roden, and it’s often more hot new music rather than comedy. But Aaron does pull down some nice chatter, including recently when he took his mics to The Sasquatch Music Festival at the Gorge in Washington State. He ran across comedian Mike Birbiglia, who was performing at the festival, and sliced off a little interview, with a cell phone cameo appearance by You Made It Weird host Pete Holmes. Rutledge Radio Hosted by comedian Gabriel Rutledge and his wife, stay-at-home-mom Kristi Rutledge, their Rutledge Radio hails from Olympia, Washington. In our clip Gabriel talks about the misery and false hope of the audition process. It's good to be back, and with so many clips! If you'd like to make sure we get to your show, you can always send us a 3-5 minutes MP3 clip to clips@SuccotashShow.com.  or, if you just like what we're doing, jump on up to iTunes and gives us a healthy rating and maybe a short review. We'll be your bestest friend! Especially if you remember to pass the Succotash! — Marc Hershon
