Marty Wall is a son, a sibling, a husband, a long-time former Kansas City-radio D.J., and a voice-over artist. He fronts three different live-music acts, has some rich K.C. knowledge, and he's my guest for Episode No. 134.Marty and I talked about music collections, radio formats and programming, gigging, family, and more. We also had a peek at two of his favorite albums, which were these:Elton John's Honky Chateau (1972)Spilt Milk (1993), JellyfishIt was a great joy to meet Marty and learn a little bit about him. I continue to have tremendous gratitude for the folks that say "yes" to joining me for some conversation. I spent some time listening to Marty on the Kansas City airwaves as a younger person, and I dug hearing about both his educational and professional trajectories. Many thanks, Mr. Wall. You can poke around at Marty's professional digs (and/or hire him) here, and you can keep tabs on at least two of his current live-music situations here and here.Cheers, y'all.copyright disclaimer: I do not own the rights to the audio clips contained within this episode. Hello Decisive Series Subscribers,Roberto Ingram your podcast host and producer here, I'm thrilled to bring you yet another insightful conversation with a remarkable artist shaping the landscape of electronic music. Today, we have the privilege of delving into the world of Jan Kincl, a Croatian DJ, record producer, remixer, engineer, and live performer whose work has captured the attention and admiration of audiences worldwide. International media placed Jan among "the most interesting voices coming from the region", and his debut album, a deeply jazz-informed house record "In Plain Sight" recorded with a French keyboard player Regis Kattie, got described as “one of the most significant pieces of regional contemporary dance music” with support from Laurent Garnier, Derrick Carter, Alton Miller, Jazzanova, Volcov, Tony Humphries, Lefto, Claude Young, Jimpster, DJ Bone, Mark Grusane, Kai Alcé and many more.“An amazingly beautiful album! Very deep.” - Claude Young“The funk's all over this project!” - Kai Alcé“Superb deepness!” - Laurent GarnierBorn and raised in Zagreb, Jan is a product of the late 90s clubbing scene emerging in Croatia. A then-teenager, who embraced the music of the Motor City as a teacher has grown into a recognizable presence in the regional music life. Today, Jan is equally recognized for the music crafted in his Cycle studio, and life-long dedication to the art of DJing. Influenced equally by jazz and hi-tech jazz, he is devoted to a more traditional way of presenting music and feels more aligned with artists not limited by genres or eras. New, old, fast, slow, soulful, or rough. For Jan, the juxtaposition of all this is what DJing is about.Even though the majority of his work is dance music, this broad approach allowed him to operate in different scenes. Remix for a Brazilian legend Ivan Mamão Conti (Azymuth) on the legendary Far Out Recordings, remixes for a German jazz-funk band Key Elements on Jazzanova's Sonar Kollektiv label, a solo 12” under CVER alias on Oye Black Label, and a track on Deep Inspiration Show Records' ‘Family Things Volume 1' all came out in a period of a single year. The last project to hit 2020, though, were reinterpretations of Radojka Sverko's ‘Kud Plovi Ovaj Brod', a special 50th-anniversary re-release of a 1970 chanson classic which holds a unique place in Croatian music folklore. In 2021, Jan is continuing the string of releases for BBE Records, PDV Records, Get Physical, and Deep Inspiration Show Records. On top of that, a debut record from Cycle Records, his recently launched label, is coming out. Titled "For A Minute", a 12" features two of Jan's original versions, and two remixes from a Chicago house legend Gene Hunt.In parallel with working on his own music, Jan's had a decade-long run lecturing on the subject of ‘History of Electronic Music' at the Music & Sound department of United Pop Academy, still ongoing, and is running CYCLE - a studio, and music production company based in Zagreb.Contact us here to book Jan for a DJ show, live performance, or lecture/workshopJoin us next time for another episode of the Decisive podcast series, where we'll continue to explore the stories and sounds shaping the world of music today. Until then, stay tuned and stay inspired."

Jazzanova is a German Berlin-based DJ/producer collective consisting of Alexander Barck, Claas Brieler, Jürgen von Knoblauch, Roskow Kretschmann, Stefan Leisering, and Axel Reinemer. They came together as a group of DJs in 1995 – Their music is characterized by nu-jazz, chill-out, as well as Latin jazz styles. Never adhering to one particular scene or sound, never pursuing one particular technique or format, they've acted as a DJ collective, a production house, a prolific remix team, radio programmers and presenters. Later in the late 1990s, they formed as a side project Sonar Kollektiv, a German record label founded specializing in downtempo music. Their intention was to create an independent record label and publisher connected to a worldwide independent distribution network. They have more than 200 catalogue releases over the years and the label is promoted in the United States by Prommer, This mix will focus on Jazzanova's later work from the stunning album ‘'In Between'' (2002) onwards and the broken beat (ish) remixes from 1997 – 2005 will be the focus of another mix later this year. It also went onto score the remarkable double of being the biggest selling vinyl single of the year at Juno AND being awarded record of the year at Phonica. As the Radio 1 mixes and remix requests reached fever pitch, Danny rolled his sleeves up and got stuck in. He started mixing different kinds of electronic music at the age of 14. After multiple years having residencies on Thursday and Fridays in Belgium’s house & techno underground scene and playing thousands of hours all over, moving along wicked eastern European countries & Russian federation resorts FRED HUSH decided to work on his production skills. Since, he released multiple times on Green Velvet’s Relief Records, as well on Tronic Soundz, Sonar Kollektiv & the infamous Rushhour Records from Amsterdam. Fred just released a new ep on ]FºKªLM[. Acid Techno pioneer Emmanuel Top his new record label. A deeper techno acid sound as Fred used to grow up between techno labels like Missile and Primate Records in the 90’ and is going back to the source of that sound in combination with recent material and futuristic unknown retro sounds. All this together with a lot of edge, twist & dirty disco if necessary. So how did you meet the bass? A: When I started buying records it was more or less Techno. One of my first records was Carl Cox with ‘The End Of The Cliché’ in 1995. Mayday and Love Parade were the biggest events at that time and I was at my first Love Parade in the age of 14. Then I started buying more experimental music by Moodyman, Dr. Rockit, Etienne De Crécy and names like that. When I started DJing latin and vocal house was big. it was all about massive vocals (almost screaming) on fast organic beats produced by acts such as Kings Of Tomorrow, Jon Cutler, Ian Pooley and Masters At Work to name a few. I really liked that style of music end of the 90’s but I am not producing Latin House today, you are completely right - there is still soul in my music. My set for ‘How I Met The Bass’ is not about Latin House. It starts with a smooth soul groover by Georg Levin that I loved to play a lot when I started DJing in bars in Hamburg. Sonar Kollektiv was the label where the record came out and it was quite famous at that time and even Dixon produced music with Georg Levin on Sonar Kollektiv. When you listen to the last quarter of my set you can hear some influences in my tracks I recently put out for sure. Steve Bug, Josh Wink and the music that got released on Poker Flat, Dessous, F Communications and Ovum was my thing and most of the records they put out today are still catching me. Q: You´re releasing your music on big labels such as Suara, Green, Audiomatique, Einmusika, Soul De Anima. Any more label goals to reach? A: There are always new goals to reach - it never stops but I keep them as a secret for today and let you know when they come true Q: Which future projects are on the way? A: I have signed a follow up EP with the Lazarusman to Dave Seaman’s Selador Records and another EP together with Saccao to Lost On You records which is a label that donates all the money from the sales to children in Africa and so do I. There is a limited vinyl edition to pre-order, just have a look into my newsfeed on Facebook. Other than that I am constantly working on new tracks.

After the fall of the Berlin Wall, he had the chance to live the open minded music revolution of these golden times and so he savored to the fullest. At this time he was inspired by synthesizer sounds of the 80´s & 90´s, which smooth the way forwards electronic music. “Groove, melody, fat basslines, atmospherically sounds and unexpected stories” from house to techno: this is how we could sum-up the musical style of Mirco, influenced by a wide selection of producers and labels, including Âme, Steve Bug, Ricardo Villalobos, Robosonic, DJ Koze and labels like Poker Flat, Sonar Kollektiv, Perlon, Noir and Suara, among others. With accurate mixes, full of power and good vibes, his sessions will lead you to dance till the end! Mirco has already released a whole bunch of ep´s and remixes for Metanoia, Circle Music, Whatiplay, Sunset Handjob, Off Recordings, Kindisch and more. Saade on salvestatud 17. oktoobril 2016 Skype’i vahendusel, mistõttu lähevad paaris kohas sõnad kaduma, kuid loodetavasti pole see liiga häiriv. Tegemist on väga huvitava, loova ja vaba hingega, kes hoolib nii Eestist kui ka keskkonnast, miles me kõik me elame. Siin on minu vestlus globaalse eestlase, Maria Juurega. Head kuulamist! See on salvestatud 2016.a. juuli keskel Loode-Itaalia ning Lõuna-Prantsusmaa kiirteedel. Marek istub Fiat 500 roolis, mina oma helisalvestusega kõrvalistmel, ja mu pere kuulab vaikselt tagaistmel pealt. Mareku lugu kardisõitjast vormelisõitjani on Eesti autospordi ajaloohuviliste jaoks kullafondi väärtusega. Siin on minu vestlus kiirusel 110 km/h globaalse eestlase Marek Kiisaga. Head kuulamist! Meie neljas saade on mitmes mõistes eriline. 14.juuli õhtul võeti neil see võimalus igaveseks ära. Arvestades, millest me Alariga rääkisime, on see tagantjärgi mõeldes veelgi olulisem. Tagasi Alari juurde. How did you select the tracks for this podcasts and what do they mean for you? A) Basically, I chose songs that have personal significance to me. Most of the artists are people that I know personally and have influenced me in some way. In the cases where i've included a song that is directly related to me, it represents a milestone in my life and/or career. Q) You are living in Montreal / Canada. What exactly is the difference to Europe concerning our electronic music scene and the nightlife? A) From what I've experienced so far in the cities I've visited in Europe, there seems to be much more awareness, understanding and respect for electronic music in general from the average person. It makes for an interesting blur of the line between what is considered mainstream and what is considered underground… Q) You are on tour in Europe since January and based in Berlin. Which cool places did you see and when are you coming for the next time? A) For me, it's more about the people I've met and interacted with. It has been a very inspiring and motivating experience in that regard. Most likely, I'll be back in the spring/summer of 2015 with my musical partner Overnite. Right now, we are putting the finishing touches on our album for Sonar Kollektiv as The Black 80s and sorting out how we will present it in a live performance format. "Brand new podcast series where we hand pick artists carefully and get them to dig deep into their collections and pick songs that they are passionate about. We are offering something completely different...No specific genres, eras, musical fads, just one rule...GOOD MUSIC..." **Bio** Kelvin brown has been stunning crowds all over the shop with his simple yet refreshing policy on playing music, which is that if a record is good it needs to be heard. You can expect to hear anything from Jazz to Hip Hop to Chicago House & Detroit Techno and everything in between. His past residencies have included Plastic People in London, the legendary Electric Chair in Manchester and his own night Eyes Down in Manchester which he ran for 6 years. In this time he has played along side the likes of Gilles Peterson, Mr Scruff, Moodymann, Pepe Braddock, & Theo Parrish to name but a few. His vast musical knowledge and sublime creativity have rewarded him with sets across the globe at events such as the Garden Festival Croatia and the Sonar Kollektiv club night in London. He has also provided guest mixes for various radio shows including Benji B's 'Deviation' show on Radio One Xtra, and played live on Gilles Peterson's 'Worldwide' show on Radio One. Kelvin, alongside partner in crime Jon-K, was named City Life Magazine's DJ of the year in 2005. Expect the unexpected when Kelvin is the selector! www.buttersideup.net

Hey all, found this old mix digging through old CDs. A mix on the housey side of things, being a big fan of the broken beat scene and the likes of Jazzanova clearly shines through here. Favourites include the deepness of Frank Roger's "Bone of my Bone", the massive Phlash remix of "Stuck" by Peven Everett, an early airing of Dennis Ferrer's remix of "The Cure and The Cause" (going out to Vicky and Agata!), it later charted in 2007 and merited a full release, big tune! Hope you enjoy more retro mixes from myself, I'll maybe get my hands near some turntables to record a new mix soon! Love from Australia!
