We skip the first Wednesday of the month to give me time to pay the games for RTG, but fortunately we have a backlog of about 1,000 podcasts on Patreon to draw from to fill in the gaps. And this week, we're turning the nostalgia knob all the way up and looking back at what is inarguably one of the greatest consoles of all-time: the Super Nintendo. Y'all know the raging clue I have for this system, and on this episode we talk about the launch, the SNES era, our favourite games, memories, and so much more. God bless the SNES. Video games made their way into American homes as early as the 1970s. But it wasn't until the console wars in the 1990s that in-home video-game consoles became nearly ubiquitous. Nintendo, Sega, Sony, and Microsoft were all pumping out quality machines that played increasingly awe-inspiring games, and that trend has continued ever since. As Nintendo prepares to kick off the next generation of console releases with the imminent arrival of the Switch 2, the Great Pop Culture Debate wanted to look back at the slickest systems from the past and name the Best Video-Game Console. Systems debated include: Nintendo Switch, Nintendo 3DS, Nintendo GameCube, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Wii, Nintendo DS, Nintendo Game Boy, NES (Nintendo Entertainment System), Sony PlayStation 2, Sony PlayStation, Nintendo Game Boy Advance, Super Nintendo, Nintendo 64, Microsoft Xbox 360, Sega Genesis, Sony PlayStation 3. Join host Eric Rezsnyak and GPCD panelists Andrea Guerrero, David Silbert, and Jim Czadzeck as they discuss 16 of the most legendary video-game systems of all time. Play along at home by finding the listener bracket here. Make a copy for yourself, fill it out, and see if your picks match up with ours!

It's our 200th episode! We start with a note of gratitude and a show announcement. If you grew up in an American public school, you likely really loved or really hated your school lunches. Here's the surprising tale of how schools came to provide lunch for students. Some 1990s era video games for Super Nintendo were notoriously challenging. One of the most difficult was the Lion King - but it was done on purpose and for a unusually specific reason.Sources:https://www.cbr.com/lion-king-brutally-difficult-platformer/https://www.smithsonianmag.com/smart-news/american-schools-have-been-feeding-children-for-more-than-100-years-heres-how-the-school-lunch-has-changed-180986583/http://www.commutethepodcast.comFollow Commute:Instagram - instagram.com/commutethepodcast/Twitter - @PodcastCommuteFacebook - facebook.com/commutethepodcast

The year was 1985, Freddy Mercury was bringing down the house at Wembley, Rocky Balboa won the Cold War by defeating Ivan Drago, and the Nintendo Entertainment System was release in the United States. It took the country by storm on the overall clad back of an Italian plumber named Mario. Nintendo ruled the home video game market until 1989 when a new player joined the game. The Sega Genesis' step onto the scene wasn't a home run right away. Sega decided to bring in a legend of the toy industry, a man named Tom Kalinske. This guy had his hands all over your childhood (not in the bad way) . Flintstone Vitamins? He created them. Barbie? He's the reason she's around today. Matchbox Cars? Who amongst us hasn't smashed one with a hammer when they no longer rolled properly. Tom and his team decided the only way to fight Nintendo's death grip on the market was to appeal to an older more mature and rebellious audience, teenagers. Sega became MTV to Nintendo's Disney Channel. Their battle took place in the stores, at the conventions, and on your TV. It had everything, corporate sabotage, defection to the competition, Joey Lawrence, Japanese rent-by-the-hour hotels, and a Hedgehog with attitude who's still doing his thing today. You've heard us talk about The Day The Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie (if you're a member of the patreon), you've heard us talk about Rabbit Rampage for the Super Nintendo, but that's NOT all, folks! Here at last is our definitive review of the definitive Looney Tunes (or Merrie Melodies for the old heads). Is it any good? Well yes obviously. But is it REALLY good? Listen and see!
[School of Everything Else 2025] One of the most beloved 90s RPGs, and one of the few on Super Nintendo that was released in the UK. So, while I envied Americans for getting Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy IV and VI, Earthbound and Breath of Fire, THIS ONE was my first actual big console RPG. And it has problems; real playability issues that make it hard to recommend for everyone in the 20s. You'll find Mana fans who say that these don't matter, but they absolutely do. A fine comparison I came upon while mulling this one over was Breath of the Wild. Absolutely gorgeous, engrossing you in a luscious world dominated by fertile nature, but Link's swords breaking after half a dozen battles are not going to make the game more fun and engaging for everyone. And yet, there IS that immersion, there is the overwhelming emotional response that Mana fans have to the music and art style, and there's the undeniably satisfying THWACK of the combat. So, come on a journey with us and the three intrepid adventuring kids, Primm, Popoi and Randi, and decide whether playing Secret of Mana is right for you.

A celebration of all things Nintendo! On this episode of Nintendo Therapy, we dive into the latest Nintendo news and nostalgia!
Nintendos Würfel feiert in diesen Wochen seinen 20.
VR and tabletop game designer from Small Rice Studios, Doug joins Ben this week to talk about the recently released cozy card game ROAST, which he designed along with his brother Nick (who Ben had the pleasure of meeting at PAX West 2024). Ben had some questions about the design, development, and testing of ROAST—all of which Doug is more than happy to elaborate on and discuss. They also spend some time reminiscing about the board, card, arcade, and video games of their youth. And don't forget to stay tuned after the interview for an outtake followed by Ben's review of Rendering Ranger: R² [Rewind]! *** 00:00:50 - Doug introduces himself and their first published game, and what is coming next 00:02:31 - Collaboration with a sibling, Doug's love of games, and the times before UNO The UNO was originally developed in 1971 by professional barber Merle Robbins in Reading, Ohio. The Robbins' family raised the money to have 5,000 copies of the game made, which he sold from his barbershop. Merle Robbins later sold the rights to UNO to a group of friends headed by Robert Tezak, a funeral parlor owner in Joliet, Illinois. Tezak formed International Games, Inc., to market Uno until company was purchased by Mattel in 1992. 00:05:04 - The ROAST design idea, living off the grid, connections, and roasting marshmallows 00:06:55 - Testing tabletop games, getting constructive feedback, and finding the best strategy 00:09:50 - Micromanaging your math, opinions of Balatro, and variety is the spice of something 00:12:15 - Remembering Magic the Gathering, from chess to golf, and more about frame-rates 00:18:23 - Pinball machine legality, real-time strategy games, and it's more than a full-time job 00:24:32 - Learning about game players, and the art of community building—online AND offline 00:26:18 - Becoming more comfortable, and donating sales to the National Park Foundation 00:27:55 - Pets doing things with intent, reconnecting with others, and climates are changing 00:32:26 - Being productive and constructive, Ben babbles, and cardboard costumes in SoCal 00:36:03 - Being a card, being odd, Democrats ruined weird, and Doug's parting sales pitch 00:38:30 - Curated social spaces, break out the ban-hammer, THE Dug, and names as verbs BONUS material 00:41:09 - The Marshall Mathers outtake 00:41:55 - Ben's review of Rendering Ranger: R² [Rewind] Ben's FINAL VERDICT for Rendering Ranger: R² [Rewind] DO BUY if… ...you want a health dose of smoothly animated, SuperNintendo nostalgia ...you want an incredibly challenging experience with excessively long levels DON'T BUY if… you're looking for a casual, arcade style experience *** Follow Small Rice Studios and Doug on… On their website: https://www.roast-game.com On Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/smallricestudios On Discord: https://discord.com/invite/GSyxdBN2A7 On Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/DougSmallRay On YouTube: https://youtube.com/@smallricestudios And their TREE o' LINKS: https://linktr.ee/smallricestudios Follow Two Vague on… Our website: https://www.twovaguepodcast.com On Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/two_vague_podcast On YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@twovaguepodcast On Substack: https://twovaguepodcast.substack.com/ On Bluesky: https://bsky.app/profile/twovaguepodcast.com For show appearance and other inquiries, contact us at: twovaguepodcast@gmail.com -AND- …for all of your PRI and 2VP merch check out the Partly Robot Industries store at TEEPUBLIC! https://www.teepublic.com/user/partly-robot-industries *** References, Links, and Tags For more information about the classic Super Famicom / SNES port of the Manfred Trenz designed game Rendering Ranger: R² [Rewind] from Ziggurat Interactive, follow the link below. https://www.ziggurat.games/game/rendering-ranger-r2 #Podbean #DIYPodcast #ApplePodcast #VideoGames #Trivia #Comedy #Talkshow #2VP #TwoVaguePodcast #PodernFamily #InterviewShow #GamersofThreads #Gamer #PartlyRobot #PartlyRobotIndustries #TeePublic #SmallRiceStudios #RenderingRangerR2Rewind #ZigguratInteractiveInc #ManfredTrenz

We're back with another episode in our Nintendo RPG category, this time featuring Nintendo's iconic mascot, Mario! Super Mario RPG was released initially in 1996 for the Super Nintendo with a full remake released in 2023 for the Nintendo Switch. Team up with a party of unlikely allies on a quest to repair Star Road and defeat the troublemaking Smithy Gang. The brothers agree that the characters are a major highlight of the game and also offer praise at the offering of side content. They also agree on the game's difficulty (or lack thereof) and ponder what can possibly change to make things easier in the game's Breezy mode. Ant recalls playing the SNES version and draws comparisons to the remake. Another reference to Super Smash Bros is made, as is tradition when discussing Nintendo games on Brothers & Boss Battles. This week the brothers ask which character would you take with you on a mission to defeat Smithy and his gang? Geno, Peach, or Bowser.Follow us onX @BrosBossBattlesInstagram @BrosBossBattleshttps://brothersandbossbattles.com/
Play Stupid Games, Win Stupid Prizes: Short stories about friendship, growth, and social misdemeanors by Andy Dietrich Amazon.com Andysbook.com Ever wonder what happens when you crash the wrong wedding or mistake a fraternity rush for a question about your heritage? How about fashioning a fake nightclub stamp empire in Vegas, or trying (and failing) to pull off a flawless heist for a Super Nintendo game? From laugh-out-loud anecdotes to surprisingly heartfelt reflections, this collection explores themes of friendship, growth, and the chaos that comes with simply trying to be human. Tackling everything from awkward cultural misunderstandings to the wild adventures of military life, this book offers readers a candid, hilarious, and sometimes poignant glimpse into a life lived fully—and occasionally just recklessly enough. Some highlights... “Are You Russian?”: The awkward misunderstanding that kicked off a college fraternity adventure. “That One Time I Witnessed a Divorce”: A Chipotle line, a hair tie, and a (potentially) marriage-ending discovery. “When You Mess It Up for Everyone Else”: How one man's shenanigans changed Vegas club re-entry policies forever. “Honey Bee Did What Honey Bees Do”: The miraculous conception story that starts with a bottle of Patrón. “The Night I Lost My Damn Mind”: An unforgettable encounter with medical-grade THC and pulled-pork sliders. Play Stupid Games, Win Stupid Prizes is perfect for fans of David Sedaris, Tucker Max, or anyone who has ever made a questionable decision and lived to laugh about it later. With a mix of humor, heart, and the occasional ridiculous life lesson, this book will leave you smiling, shaking your head, and maybe even feeling a little better about your own misadventures. “If you're gonna do something stupid, be smart about it.”About the author Andy Dietrich was born at an early age and lived a fairly uneventful life in the Black Forest of Germany. At age 14, he and his mom packed their things and moved to Alaska to experience the true meaning of "holy shit, it's cold!" At 19, while on a sugar high, he enlisted and became one of Uncle Sam's Misguided Children. He was released early due to good behavior and moved to Las Vegas where he now spends his time harassing, errr...."welcoming" the tourists and exercising his second-favorite drinking arm. If you come across a wild Andy in his natural habitat, do not feed him attention; he will only come back for more.
Would you like to know more? A new Starship troopers movie is coming, but it wont be a satire. Star Wars Hunters is ending its hunt, but in its place we may get a Star Wars Tactics game. Pokémon is ditching MEGA Blocks and announces a new partnership with LEGO, Happy Gilmore gets some help and we learned more about the unproduced Star Wars Underworld show. Plus a review of Novocaine, a movie set in San Diego but not filmed in San Diego.

From turn-based battles to epic storylines, Nintendo has delivered some unforgettable RPG experiences over the years. Today we're diving into the first game of our Nintendo RPG category with Earthbound, which released in North America on June 5th, 1995 for the Super Nintendo.None of the brothers had played Earthbound in the past but were all looking forward to their first playthrough. The brothers praise the game for its uniqueness and good humor but had some issues with the outdated inventory management and menus. One of Ant's favorite parts of the game is the same part hated by Pete and Tom. Pete reveals some cool tidbits about the game's localization and rarest items; and brings to light how music from the game has been immortalized through an internet meme.Let us know what you thought of Earthbound by leaving a comment on any of our social platforms!Follow us onX @BrosBossBattlesInstagram @BrosBossBattleshttps://brothersandbossbattles.com/

Before RTG is done, we'll have covered all 11 core Mega Man games. And this week we're tackling what I consider to the the most underrated of the bunch: Mega Man 7 for the SNES. I think MM7 gets overlooked for a couple reasons. After 6 NES games, I think people might have been a little burnt out on the tried-and-true Mega Man formula. And more importantly, the Super Nintendo was the home of Mega Man X, which many consider to be the greatest Mega Man game of all-time. If you haven't played this one, don't sleep on it. The graphics are great, the music rocks, and in reality this is just an NES Mega Man in 16-bit glory. And that's all I wanted it to be. Joining me this is is a fellow podcaster and Mega Man junkie, my pal Dan from the Dissect That Film and Manawurm podcasts. What we thought would be a shorter episode turned into an hour long Mega Man loveliest, as we went through all the levels in this, the various weapons, and the cheese that is the final Wily fight. If you like Mega Man, ya gotta give this one a listen. And before we go after Wily again, I put together another edition of the Infamous Intro! This week, someone asks if I think I have a video game addiction? Will I ever review a Call of Duty on the show? And where the HELL is Silk Song!?!?
