Alternate Sermon Titles: Donkey Day or The King Who StopsScripture References: Matthew 20:29-34, Matthew 21:1-11, Isaiah 35:4-6, Psalm 118, Matthew 27 (Referenced)Intro: Welcome to this sermon! Today, we're looking at Palm Sunday, the start of Passion Week, Jesus' Triumphant Entry into Jerusalem. It's a pivotal moment described in all four Gospels. While often called Palm Sunday (though only John mentions palms), the focus might actually be on the donkey. This event showcases the unique nature of King Jesus – a king unlike any earthly ruler. We see the crowds finally giving Jesus praise, shouting "Hosanna!" (Save Now!), recognizing Him as the Son of David, the promised Messiah. But even in this moment of seeming triumph, Jesus reveals His true character and mission.Key Points:The King Who Stops for the Hurting (Matt 20:29-34):On His way to Jerusalem, knowing the immense weight of the week ahead (suffering, death, atonement), Jesus is interrupted by two blind beggars crying out, "Lord, Son of David, have mercy on us!"The crowd tries to silence them, wanting Jesus to have His moment. But Jesus stops. He doesn't brush them off. He asks, "What do you want me to do for you?"He shows compassion and heals them. This reveals the heart of our King – He has time for the marginalized, even amidst His most critical mission. He stoops down. The King Who Rides a Borrowed Donkey (Matt 21:1-11):Jesus deliberately fulfills prophecy (Zechariah 9:9) by choosing a donkey, not a warhorse.Palms symbolized military victory and nationalism (like the Maccabean revolt). The crowd wanted that kind of king – one to overthrow Rome.Jesus chose the donkey – a symbol of peace, humility, and service (a beast of burden). He was signalling a different kind of kingship, a different way of saving. He comes to carry burdens, not conquer with force. It wasn't even His donkey! He borrowed it, showing humility and dependence, yet also authority ("The Lord needs it"). He owns nothing, yet everything. The King Who Defies Expectations (Matt 21:10-11, Matt 27):The crowd acclaimed Him King, shouting "Hosanna!" (Save Now!), expecting a political/military Messiah to defeat Rome. They chanted Psalm 118 but added titles like "Son of David" and "King of Israel."Jesus' mission was different. He came to conquer a greater enemy: sin and death. He targeted hypocrisy within Israel, not just external oppressors. This disconnect led the same crowd, just days later, to shout "Give us Barabbas!" – choosing a violent insurrectionist over the humble King on a donkey. They preferred their expectations over the King they actually got.Jesus isn't a consultant or a vending machine fulfilling our demands. He is King. Conclusion: Palm Sunday reveals the heart of King Jesus. He is compassionate, stopping for the needy even on His "big day." He is humble, riding a borrowed donkey, signaling peace and service, not earthly power. He challenges our expectations, calling us not just to praise Him when He fits our mold, but to submit to Him as Lord even when His ways aren't our ways. He came to deal with our deepest problem – sin and death – through His own suffering and sacrifice.Call to Action: As we reflect on this King, let's examine our own hearts. Do we treat Jesus like a consultant or a vending machine, only following when it suits us? Or do we submit to Him as King, trusting His ways even when they don't align with our expectations? He is a King who can be trusted – one familiar with suffering, humble enoug Support the show*Summaries and transcripts are generated using AI. Please notify us if you find any errors.

Confessions of a Marketer
How to succeed on Amazon in 2024

Confessions of a Marketer

Play Episode Listen Later Apr 16, 2024 22:45

Robyn Johnson, CEO and founder of Marketplace Blueprint, is with us on this episode of Confessions of a Marketer. She has been heralded as one of the country's foremost leaders on the topic of selling and marketing products on Amazon.com. And she has the distinction of being on the episode that kept this podcast going even while we were on hiatus, with hundreds of downloads and listens every month since we went on ice about three years ago. TRANSCRIPT Mark Reed-Edwards: Thanks for joining me today. Robyn Johnson: It's my pleasure, and I think it's awesome that I can help you be here as we reopen things. And Amazon has changed so much. Dog years are, you know, one year is every seven years. I feel like Amazon every one year is 10 years. Mark Reed-Edwards: That's for sure. I mean, think back three years ago, we were in the middle of the pandemic still. And the world was kind of getting used to using more and more technology. So Amazon had a huge boom as a result of that, along with the other tools that we all use every day. So the world is definitely different from when you and I talked three years ago. I'm sure things have happened in your life that are make you different. Can you share a bit of your background and what you do at Marketplace Blueprint? Robyn Johnson: Yeah, so I've been eating, sleeping, breathing Amazon for about 13 years now. We started as sellers, took a hundred dollars, grew our business to a million dollars in just a couple of years and primarily on Amazon. And after that, we coached a lot of other high volume Amazon sellers. This was when it was the wild wild west. You could do anything. People were taking apart food and repackaging it in very unsafe ways. We didn't do that, but there were a lot of people who were. And then about seven years ago, eight years ago, we started the agency called Marketplace Blueprint. And in that agency, we specialize only on Amazon. So we don't do Facebook, no Meta, no Google. We only do Amazon. And the reason for that is because everything in Amazon is integrated. So to work on your SEO for Amazon, you have to coordinate with ads, compliance, inventory management, and negative customer experiences. All of those need to be integrated to make sure that you get the best mileage out of your ad dollar on Amazon. And also that you don't get stuck with a bunch of fees or being unable to sell at all. Mark Reed-Edwards: So every company that makes a product, pretty much, thinks they need to be on Amazon. How do you decide on whether Amazon is in fact the right forum for your products? Robyn Johnson: So I will say that there are some products that Amazon is not a good fit for. Amazon works best on repeatable products, products that are going to be consistent. There is a space for custom products. We have a custom dog tag company that we've been working with for a long time that was on Shark Tank. They do very, very well. You can do custom items, but one of a kind things that are not repeatable, those don't do as well because Amazon's algorithm is really designed for is you have to really be able to repeat that sale over and over again. Now, the things that have changed is it used to be, you know, field of dreams. If you build it, they will come, you know, you just put a garlic press. press on there and you stick a label on it and it would sell. Those days are dying if they're not already dead. You really need something that will bring some unique value, so it fixes a problem or it solves a need in some way that's unique to others. Or you need to have very, very deep pockets. You can still launch a garlic press, but to get it to where you're going to get those significant organic sales, you're going to need to invest a ton of money in ads and be willing to go into the negative for a period of time if it's a really competitive or commoditized product. And then the other thing is we need to balance how much search volume is there for your product. So if Lego launches. anything, Lego will immediately get sales because Lego has such a loyal brand following. Now, if I launch a new product with a new brand, I will not get those immediate sales because people aren't already looking. So there's several tools that can help you look at that. And then the other thing we want to look at is-- especially with D to C. Sometimes D to C companies will come to us and want to take their product on Amazon. They've been very successful with D to C. One thing I want you to think about, if that's you, is when you're driving traffic from Meta to your website people are only seeing your product. So if you have a higher than average price for your industry, the difference is when you come to Amazon, your competitors are going to be centimeters away from your product. And so that means if you have poor reviews, if you have a much higher price and you can't really isolate and crystallize why your product is so much more expensive, it can be difficult for you to be successful on Amazon because the lower cost, higher reviewed items are going to be right side by side with you. I don't know if that helps. Mark Reed-Edwards: Yeah, it's kind of interesting. All this direct consumer stuff, like Flex Tape or something that you see the ads for, they kind of existed in their own universe. And often when you see an ad like that you might Google it or go on to Amazon and search for that type of product. And then, if that direct to consumer is playing in Amazon, you're going to see the alternatives. So maybe you know, a box of FlexTape is $12.99, but the competitor, or the Amazon Basics version is $9.50. You know, you go for the cheaper version. That's pretty much what you're saying, right? Robyn Johnson: Yeah. And on the converse of that, so, it can be good to have your product on Amazon, even if you don't plan to focus on that channel and just do some branded search, make sure your product comes up for your brand. I have this little ADHD timer that I use and I saw an ad on Twitter or X and I went to go to Amazon to buy it. But it wasn't on Amazon so I bought a competitor. Sometimes you can lose that, but if I had gone and the one that they were trying to sell me was 27 and the other one was 999 and I could see they were the same, they still would have lost that conversion. So if you're close, it can be good to have a presence. If you are going to be sold in retail stores , it can be even more important to make sure you're the one that creates the listing on Amazon so that you have control, that your brand registered. So that if you do decide you want to make Amazon a primary channel going forward, you don't have a lot of cleanup from resellers creating listings with any false information that could also potentially get you into compliance or legal issues. Mark Reed-Edwards: I think one of the big evolutions in the three years since you and I chatted last is how big Amazon has gotten as an advertising medium. Can you speak to that? How big are they? They obviously have a massive reach. And how do they determine where those ads show up? Is it contextual? Are they driven by keywords? How does it work? Robyn Johnson: Well, and you know, ads on Amazon used to be very simple, with keyword targeting, there really was only one placement, there really was no creative. But now Amazon has been adding more and more advertising product types. So this means there is more room for creative, there is a lot more granularity. And before, you know, I'll be honest, six, seven years ago, you could have been very successful just with an automatic campaign. And there are some select instances where you still can, but you're not going to get the same lift as if you have a really strategic thought out ad strategy. You know, and the biggest mistake that people make on Amazon when it comes to ads is, let's say you have a clothing line and you're trying to get some more traction on your Amazon sales. If you have a finite amount, let's say you only have. 3, 000, 2, 000, you know, you can be successful with a small amount but you, let's say you have 5, 000 a month for, you know, 20 SKUs, a lot of times people will spread that budget out equally, and really what we want to do is we want to target that ad spend on a small number of SKUs, a small number of targets, whether that be keyword, demographic, category, competitor targeting, and really focus on trying to get those ads to cause conversions for that specific product. And the reason we want to do that is we want to try to cause enough conversions where the product starts to rank organically in the first five to ten positions because the best place to hide a dead body is still page two of Amazon search. Mark Reed-Edwards: Ha, ha, ha. Robyn Johnson: Before I would usually say like 25 results could fit on a page. Now on a competitive search term, you know, above the fold, you you might only see two or three organic ones. So there might be only 10 organic spots on the entire front page. That means that you really do need to cause those conversions. And when you're looking at your ads, Amazon provides an advertising cost of sale, which is kind of like the inverse of ROAS. But what we want to do is we want to really look at the equivalent of TROAS, which is TACoS. And you know you've been doing Amazon too much when you see an ad for tacos and you immediately think ads and you have to recorrect yourself for the delicious snack. But TACoS will really tell you how your ads are impacting organic because that's really more than incremental sales. To maximize your profitability on Amazon we need to, of course, be looking at return on investment for each of those ads, but we want to see how that return on investment is increasing organic ranking because that was where you can start to bring back in some of that cost and increase profitability overall. So when it comes to Amazon, it's kind of like disciplining children, pick your battles, but win your battles at all costs. Mark Reed-Edwards: So for the uninitiated, can you tell me what TACoS is? Because I'm uninitiated on that. Robyn Johnson: So it's Total Advertising Cost of Sale. ACOS looks at, you know kind of what percentage of your ad revenue. TACoS looks at all of the revenue and the reason it's helpful is it tells us, you know, not just, you know, because sometimes what was we had a company where a specific campaign had like a 43 percent top ACoS, which is not good. You know, we really want to keep that 20 to 30. But when we looked at the TACoS, because even though that conversion rate was a little bit more expensive, the conversions that were happening took them on a very important primary keyword from page three or four to being the second organic result. So those ads were helping kind of feed the engine that kept them at the top of the page, if that made sense. Mark Reed-Edwards: One of the other pieces of news is that Amazon is now selling ads on Prime Video, and I'm wondering is there a connection between those ads and advertising on Amazon itself? Robyn Johnson: Yes, Amazon's offering a lot of sponsored TV, sponsored display, and they're beginning to test these. And a lot of times they even have no minimum budget. So, there's a lot of availability to kind of test and play. The negative is if you have a stakeholder or you as a stakeholder are very focused on direct ROI, we really have to remember that ad campaigns are going to be more brand awareness and you're not going to get the same numbers and direct ROI. Our agency is really focused on profitability for our clients. So if somebody has got a very tight ROI or they're in a tight cash position, we usually will not recommend these because we're still trying to figure out --Amazon is still trying to figure out --how to get the best conversion off of these. But Amazon has really been expanding the advertising capabilities for brands, and even services that don't sell on Amazon. And the really cool thing is while a lot of first party signals have been taken away from Meta and Google -- that's been a shifting ground for a long time. Amazon has a pretty robust set of first party signals that you can target just the right shopper. And they've been growing and developing this thing called Amazon Marketing Cloud where they can measure impact of year over year campaigns. And so there are a lot of really cool, fun, new to market things to be testing. There's a lot of new ad types, ad placements that are available for brands of all different sizes of budgets. It's just, you know, really understanding where those ads are, going to be surfacing. So like some of the Amazon DSP, which is kind of the, the managed used to be called kind of the managed services part, but now there's some self managed stuff in there as well. Some of those videos will show on Twitch, which if you're selling a video game accessory is awesome. If you're selling, you know, Bengay ointment cream to 60 year olds, probably not going to convert well. So, you know, it is about making sure whoever you partner with really kind of understands where those will show and understands how to limit and adjust and kind of guide you in a way that those ads are going to get the best possible engagement. Mark Reed-Edwards: So big question to close out. And maybe this is the theme for today's discussion. And , I think it's a rather big question, but if anyone's going to answer it, it's going to be you. What does it take to succeed on Amazon in 2024? Robyn Johnson: So, you know, this answer is very different than what I would have given you even a year ago. Amazon right now is very focused on compliance. Courts have found that they're liable for unsafe products that are sold on their marketplace. So before it really was just a question of marketing. Amazon has always been very concerned about the customer experience. This makes it a really complicated marketplace. And it makes it so that if you don't have experience with Amazon, let's say you are a guru when it comes to Google or Meta, Amazon can be different and difficult because a lot of things are labeled the same as they are in other ecosystems but they work differently. The other thing is that you're really going to have to have your compliance documentation in order, especially in the area of food supplements, anything child and baby, you're going to need to make sure you have to have a CPSC, you're going to have to have any safety testing that's required. You also need to be partnered with somebody to know the right words to say or you need to do that research on your own. So one of the things that Amazon a long time ago I'm guessing they got in trouble with the EPA or something along those lines. That's usually what causes this. But Amazon got really, really committed to verifying that pesticides were safe, which is great. But now, you know, all of a sudden, overnight, your anti bacterial sock is now considered a pesticide. So there are a lot of trigger words. So if you say let's say, let's say, for example, if you put the word doll in your bobblehead, that might now trigger you to to provide all of the CPSC documentation as a toy, even though your bobblehead was really not a toy. And then you have to really be watching your voice of the customer in Account Health, there's a tab called Under Performance, there's one that says Voice of the Customer. You should be checking that twice weekly. Anything with more than two of the same negative experiences-- So let's say two people, three people all say the shirt was too small or three people say they got the wrong item. If we see it more than three times in a row, even if it's a slow velocity item, then we want to make sure: What do we need to change in the listing? What do we need to change in the way that the pictures are located? So, you might say, well, I can't help it if people buy the wrong size. Yes, you can. You can put a size chart in there. You can put measurements. You can put that item on different sized bodies, so people can see it's tighter in the waist. And the reason that is important is if Amazon sees that your product is causing a negative experience, they will remove your product from the platform. Even if you're Lego. So don't think, well, my product is selling a lot. They won't do that. There are rare cases, but for the most part, if something's a negative experience, they will remove it from the platform. So you have to have all of that. Mark Reed-Edwards: Sorry to interrupt you, but is that done through sentiment analysis? Is it AI that drives that or are there people looking at these listings and looking at these ratings and investigating why they're low for a certain item? Robyn Johnson: You know, I think anybody that could tell you the answer for sure probably wouldn't be able to say because Mark Reed-Edwards: Mm hmm. Robyn Johnson: Amazon has really great NDAs. But my guess is that it's primarily driven by AI and then reviewed by people under certain circumstances. Because there are times where we have a product that has a 20 percent negative customer experience rate, but it's because one person out of five said something and those don't flag, which makes it more difficult because there's not like a hard and fast rule. I can't say, well, as long as you're getting this many and your, your NCX is below this, but basically, you know, keep everything out of those bottom two, the, the poor and very poor, and you should be hypothetically okay. But we want to keep everything good as much as possible. Mark Reed-Edwards: So the upshot with Amazon is that it's really, it's not a simple marketplace to do business with. Robyn Johnson: No, but it can be really, really powerful. You know, we have brands that were, you know, really struggling D to C. They weren't getting the brick and mortar spots, or they did get the brick and mortar spots that they wanted, and it caused more problems. They were dealing with returns and all sorts of different things. Now, Amazon has its own sets of problems. It has not sunshine and rainbows. We do have some good TACoS. We have some brands that have been able to completely turn around negative things. We have some really large brands that are in every Walmart, Lowe's, Home Depot, and for the last several years, Amazon has been able to sustain growth for them even though every other channel has been significantly down. So it has allowed them to have avoid layoffs. So it is definitely something that you want to consider. It can be a very powerful channel and you can use it to feed your other channels in some ways as well, because Amazon is so bottom of funnel. When you look at your ad conversions and you see what's converting there, that can really be sent back to your SEO, to your SEM agencies or if you're doing that yourself and really making sure that your product pages are using those keywords because those keywords that work on Amazon are all going to be very much the buyer intent. So it can be helpful there as well. It can also be really great for customer acquisition. Now, if you don't get any customer information, but especially if you have a consumable product, Amazon Subscribe and Save Now offers this ability to add a coupon on the initial purchase. I'm a marketer. I know all the tricks, but I will tell you the number of times that I have signed up for a subscribe and save, even though I wasn't even sure if I really was gonna like this product, and I ended up on the auto ship because I was like, "Ooh, I'm cheap and I can get 25% off my first purchase and then, you know, 5% off everywhere after-- Yeah, of course I'll sign up for a subscribe and save. I'll just cancel it later." And so usually two or three times later, then I, you know, go back. Yeah. You know, so. If you have a consumable, make sure that you are really utilizing Subscribe and Save. Amazon is now providing a lot more data. Their brand analytics that they've been providing has been really amazing to help determine whether or not: is the category down or is my listing down? We have two full time people that just handle Amazon compliance and then three people that just do Amazon seller support tickets. We call it being professionally persistent. There can be really good opportunities there. You do need to make sure that you have the margin in order to sustain on Amazon and really make sure you're looking at apples to apples. So the Amazon FBA fee, make sure when you're comparing that to your self fulfillment, you're including the cost, the tape, the labor to pack up everything. Cause all of that is included in FBA, but then you also want to make sure you're thinking about Amazon's return fee. Return policies are probably a little bit more generous. So that margin is really your access to being successful on Amazon because you do need enough margin in order to at least launch with advertising and some deals, maybe a coupon or Prime exclusive deal. And to be able to have that ability to discount on the big tent full days, like Prime Day and I think they're calling it T11 now, which is kind of ridiculous. It went from Black Friday to 11 days. I don't know when that happened. Mark Reed-Edwards: That's great. What a crazy world. Well, Robyn, I, I hope we catch up sooner than three years next time. I really appreciate your insight and thanks for joining me. Robyn Johnson: I hope it was helpful. And you know, if you're struggling with Amazon, no, it's not you. Amazon is, can be kind of a bear, but it can definitely be worth it. And keep listening to this podcast. You can hear more amazing, different confessions from different marketers. And thank you very much for having me back on the show.

Four week series titled The Stories of Your Life with key stories of the people surrounding Christ's passion. We're calling the series “The Stories of Your Life” because we believe they are Passion-week stories that impact you today. The purpose of this series is to challenge us to learn from these stories and apply this knowledge to our lives. Their mistakes, strengths and perspectives can teach us much in 2023. IF we are teachable! Today we're going to focus on a story that may be a little unusual…It's the story of a little man who climbed a tree and became world famous because he did. Today is Palm Sunday. It is the Sunday before Easter and it begins the Holy Week, the Passion of Christ. Christ came to seek and save the lost, including the worst of sinners. Palm Sunday is that very important day in history, when Jesus began His journey towards the cross. Jesus was on mission, fully knowing what was ahead of Him. Luke 19:28-38 28 After Jesus had said this, he went on ahead, going up to Jerusalem. 29 As he approached Bethphage and Bethany at the hill called the Mount of Olives, he sent two of his disciples, saying to them, 30 “Go to the village ahead of you, and as you enter it, you will find a colt tied there, which no one has ever ridden. Untie it and bring it here. 31 If anyone asks you, ‘Why are you untying it?' say, ‘The Lord needs it.'” 32 Those who were sent ahead went and found it just as he had told them. 33 As they were untying the colt, its owners asked them, “Why are you untying the colt?” 34 They replied, “The Lord needs it.” 35 They brought it to Jesus, threw their cloaks on the colt and put Jesus on it. 36 As he went along, people spread their cloaks on the road. 37 When he came near the place where the road goes down the Mount of Olives, the whole crowd of disciples began joyfully to praise God in loud voices for all the miracles they had seen: 38 “Blessed is the king who comes in the name of the Lord!” “Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!” Palm Sunday is the day that Jesus entered Jerusalem on a donkey. The crowds who were in Jerusalem to celebrate the Passover met Him with palm branches shouting: “Hosanna! (Save Now!) Palm branches were considered symbols of victory and triumph at the time. Days later, the same people of Jerusalem would turn on Jesus and demand of the Romans, ‘Crucify Him!' We are busy people with stuff going on almost every day of the week. · Many of you are on the heels of spring break · Some are returning from the Men's Retreat · You may have thoughts about Easter: ‘Who is coming for dinner?' ‘What am I going to cook for dinner?' ‘I have to hide the eggs before the children arrive', and in all of the upcoming thoughts about Easter, the real meaning of it may, even unintentionally, get missed. From day one, Jesus was on mission. Jesus the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost. Jesus is still on mission. Jesus came to seek and to save you and me! It is important to stop and look more closely at Jesus and the buildup of miracles prior to His entry into Jerusalem. Jesus and his disciples travel through Jericho which is about a day's journey from Jerusalem. Two blind men cry out to Jesus, Lord, let our eyes be opened. Jesus is moved with compassion and He touches their eyes, and the two blind beggars receive their sight. The blind men begin to praise Jesus and also the crowd of people. There are tremendous crowds around Jesus as He passes through Jericho. Everyone wants to see the one who has healed the blind men. Now we begin with the story of the man I've already referenced: Zacchaeus. The story of Zacchaeus is not so much about “Who” Zacchaeus was but “Who” Jesus is. Jesus is the God of the universe who came down from heaven in human form to connect with us. Luke 19:1-10 19 Jesus entered Jericho and was passing through. 2 A man was there by the name of Zacchaeus; he was a chief tax collector and was wealthy. Zacchaeus was a Jew. He was a traitor to his nation. He collected money for Rome, and no one liked him. Think of the politician you despise the most – that's how people felt about this man. Zacchaeus was a crook. Verse 3 He wanted to see who Jesus was, but because he was short he could not see over the crowd. 4 So he ran ahead and climbed a sycamore-fig tree to see him, since Jesus was coming that way. It is likely that people were jeering at Zacchaeus as he was climbing that tree. They surely didn't want this type of man, a sinner, interrupting their chance to see Jesus. Zacchaeus was short in stature but he didn't let his limitations stop him. Zacchaeus was far from Jesus but he didn't want to be. He was curious. He had heard many things about Jesus, that He was the Christ, the Messiah, and the Son of the living God. For all that was wrong with Zacchaeus – there was something very right about him: He wanted to see Jesus. Sometimes we need to do our own thing, to break the status quo to meet God. The crowds were ‘pressing in'. Zacchaeus went vertical. He climbed a sycamore tree because he was unable to see over the people. In 2023, breaking the status quo may look like: 1. Saying “No” to something that your friends are doing that isn't nice. 2. Getting up early to pray when the norm is to sleep in. 3. Tithe to your church when the norm would be to spend it on yourself. Will you step up or be content with the crowd? Zacchaeus did what it took to see the Savior. My question for you today is “What excuses do you make for not seeking Jesus?” I believe we all feel a tug on our heart to come to God more, but it's too often suppressed by our excuses: 1. The Bible is overwhelming. I don't understand it when I read it. 2. My life is too busy to sit down and read the Bible. 3. I rather be doing something that I enjoy. 4. I can't concentrate on the Bible. I have a thousand things that I am thinking about so I am easily distracted. Maybe today will be a good day to shine light on your excuses. What excuses are hindering you from seeing Jesus? We would never be hearing about the story of Zacchaeus if he chose to wallow in his inability to see Jesus. If you want to know Jesus more do something about it! I want to be in the tree. And not in the crowd. Verse 5 When Jesus reached the spot, he looked up and said to him, “Zacchaeus, come down immediately. I must stay at your house today.” 6 So he came down at once and welcomed him gladly. It may not feel like it because we've heard the story so many times… BUT, THIS IS scandalous! It was very unpopular to be associated to tax collectors. Jesus didn't seem to mind that He was getting a reputation for hanging out with sinners. Jesus shocks the crowd by willingly calling Zacchaeus out, to be a guest in his home at the expense of offending the crowd. Likewise, Jesus expects us to welcome the unwanted and unacceptable. Will you accept the unlovable into your life like Jesus? Verse 7 All the people saw this and began to mutter, “He has gone to be the guest of a sinner.” When the people see what is happening, that Jesus is going to be the guest of a man who they view as a sinner, they become furious. They don't marvel at such grace; they just mutter. What's your response when someone deserving of punishment receives mercy instead? Zacchaeus had become rich by dishonestly extorting their money when collecting taxes. Certainly he didn't deserve mercy. Are you complaining about things? The Bible says that the crowd despised Jesus' acceptance of Zacchaeus. They were so tied up in their own emotion of disgust that they missed the miracle of Jesus transforming the heart of a sinner. Verse 8 But Zacchaeus stood up and said to the Lord, “Look, Lord! Here and now I give half of my possessions to the poor, and if I have cheated anybody out of anything, I will pay back four times the amount.” After Jesus reached out to Zacchaeus, he got down quickly from the tree. He had a response full of joy and great excitement. Zacchaeus changed his ways and went above and beyond to make things right. That's the definition of repentance. With Jesus, Zacchaeus overcame his past. He became a new person! Verse 9 Jesus said to him, “Today salvation has come to this house, because this man, too, is a son of Abraham. (And now Jesus gives us the moral of the Zacchaeus story) 10 For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.” Jesus does what is “Impossible with man” but “possible with God”. Zacchaeus was a changed man. Forgiveness and grace made him immediately generous. Jesus seeks and saves lost people because they are valuable to Him. Jesus has no requirements for us before He comes to visit. If He visited Zacchaeus, He will visit you! Jon Kelly is living proof that the transformative work of Jesus Christ in the life of an individual can result in a transformed heart and a remarkable life change. We don't have to make everything right with all our dealings before letting Him in. He already knows you by name and He desires to be in relationship with you. Two points from today's message: Point One: Jesus loves all people! Including sinners and outcasts. Ephesians 5:1 says, “Imitate God, therefore, in everything you do, because you are his dear children.” Likewise, we are to imitate God. He expects us to welcome the unwanted and unacceptable. · A mother who is lost in romance novels and is full of lust · Drug addicts, alcoholics · The business man who is full of pride and greed and is far from Jesus · You fill in the name of the person or people who are ‘unwanted' in your life Some people might seem like they are beyond hope, but then, Jesus seeks them, and the Gospel changes them. Lost people are valuable to Jesus. Therefore, they must be valuable to you and me. We should remember this is what happened with us before we were believers. We were lost, Jesus sought us, He found us, and He changed our lives. Romans 5:6 says, “When we were utterly helpless, Christ came at just the right time and died for us sinners.” Point Two: Luke 19:10, “The Son of Man came to seek and save the lost.” The Son of Man came to seek and to save you. When you are far from Jesus, He closes the distance. Jesus was willing to go to the cross to redeem you back from sin and death. Likewise, we are to imitate God. Matthew 28:19-20, is for the church, you and me. We must individually reach out to those who are lost and help them find their way home. As believers we must be willing to welcome the outcasts, the lost, and all people BECAUSE relationships matter. 1. Ask Jesus to give you opportunities to share the Good News in conversations, even if it terrifies you. 2. Be willing to talk about Jesus, even if we think people won't listen and may even ridicule us. Today you have an opportunity to respond. We are going to celebrate Palm Sunday by celebrating Communion together. Some call it the Holy Sacrament of the Lord's Supper. You do not have to be a member of the Church of the Nazarene to take communion. What we ask is that you have a personal relationship with Jesus. Maybe you are thinking “I am like Zacchaeus. I have done awful things in my lifetime. But, today, I am MORE than curious. I want to come to Jesus. I want to experience the JOY of the LORD living inside my heart.” If that is you, then this day and this Holy Communion is exactly for you. Today, you can ask Jesus to forgive you for the things you have done wrong against Him and against others AND ask Him to come live in your heart. If that is you, heaven is rejoicing! Reading from Luke 22: 14-20, 14 When the hour came, Jesus and his apostles reclined at the table. 15 And he said to them, “I have eagerly desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer. 16 For I tell you, I will not eat it again until it finds fulfillment in the kingdom of God.” 17 After taking the cup, he gave thanks and said, “Take this and divide it among you. 18 For I tell you I will not drink again from the fruit of the vine until the kingdom of God comes.” 19 And he took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, “This is my body given for you; do this in remembrance of me.” 20 In the same way, after the supper he took the cup, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which is poured out for you. The Lord himself ordained this holy sacrament. He commanded His disciples to partake of the bread and wine, emblems of His broken body and shed blood. This is His table. The feast is for His disciples. Let all those who have with true repentance turned from their sins, and have believed in Christ unto salvation, draw near and take these emblems, and, by faith, partake of the life of Jesus Christ, to your soul's comfort and joy. Let us remember that it is the memorial of the death and passion of our Lord; also a token of His coming again. Let us not forget that we are one, at one table with the Lord. You are invited to come forward and partake in the Holy Sacrament of the Lord's Supper. Church Family: (Raise up the bread) The bread, representing the body of our Lord Jesus Christ, which was broken for you, may it preserve you blameless, unto everlasting life. Take and eat this, in remembrance that Christ died for you. (Raise up the cup) The cup, representing the blood of our Lord Jesus Christ, which was shed for you, may it preserve you blameless unto everlasting life. Drink this, in remembrance that Christ's blood was shed for you, and be thankful. May it be, in Jesus Name, Amen.

The importance of financial education and rewarding good saving habits is the topic of this episode of the Talkin' Solutions podcast as I chat with the co-founder and CEO of Monkee, Martin Granig. Monkee is a financial platform based in Europe with a mission to help millions of people achieve their goals without building up debt. They use the slogan 'save now and buy later' and are the antithesis of 'buy now, pay later' as their platform incentivizes users to save their money to make purchases and be rewarded for it. In this episode we discuss:

Solo Travel Adventures: Safe Travel for Women, Preparing for a Trip, Overcoming Fear, Travel Tips

Are you using the excuse that you can't afford to travel but continually live in luxury, comfort and excessive spending at home? Take time to evaluate your spending. Where can you cut back or what can you eliminate so you can go on that trip this year?If you spend $13.70 a day on unnecessary expenses, you are wasting $5000 a year.$5000 can get you a very nice trip/vacation.10 Ways to Save NOW:1) Stop buying your coffee, bottled water or other beverages outside the home. Daily Starbucks adds up. Make your coffee at home. Bring a reusable bottle of water from home as well.2) Cigarettes or Alcohol or other vices. The average annual cost of smoking is $832 which is moderate airfare for an international flight (off season). Neither addiction is good for your health anyway.3) Eating out. Limit this expense and prepare your own meals and eat at home.4) Memberships- gym, boutique fitness studios, massage, cryo, etc.5) Streaming services- Netflix, Hulu, Disney, etc. It all adds up and truthfully, how much are you really using or watching?6) Buying books- Use your local library, borrow from friends or use the neighborhood free book cabinets around town.7) Monthly services/subscriptions: StitchFix (other clothing delivery), Bark box, monthly/weekly meal deliveries, cosmetic box of the month, etc. Stop these services and you could save $100 plus a month.8) Pedicures and Manicures. Could you reduce or do these on your own for awhile to save money.9) Reduce your living expenses. Could you downsize? Look into cheaper cell service or insurance.10) Sell your unused and unwanted stuff for extra cash.Remember to put all these $ savings into a separate savings account designated for travel only.I want to hear about your wonderful trip planned for 2023 with all these money saving tips. The Truth About Hormone Replacement Therapy

Episode Overview: The question many midlife women are asking is, “what's the truth about hormone replacement therapy?” With all the conflicting information we hear, I wanted to talk to an expert on the topic, Dr. Felice Gersh. She is a board-certified OBGYN and integrative medicine doctor. As an expert in menopause, PCOS, hormones, fasting, and the unique needs of women I knew Dr. Gersh was the woman to talk to!  She and I have a joint mission to help women who, universally, must go through this transition into menopause to live high-quality lives. I know you'll learn so much from this episode!   Questions Answered: What's the truth about hormone replacement therapy and where did it go wrong to make people so nervous about it? Can women who are already in the middle of menopause benefit from hormone therapy? What role does estradiol play in the body? Why hasn't the word got out about the value of hormone therapy? Is it recommended to get on hormones during perimenopause and if so, what type of hormones? How safe and effective are pellets?   Action Item: Take control of your menopause journey with help from Dr. Gersh's book, Menopause: 50 Things You Need to Know   Key Moments in the Conversation:  [7:26] The message that got delivered to all doctors and the entire society was, hormones are bad for women. Not, if you give conjugated equine estrogens orally from horse urine, which contains stuff that never would be in the human body. [15:46] I think that hormones will help women anytime however if you are further out in menopause, you're not going to get the same degree of prevention as if you do it early on because you can't reverse end-stage disease. [20:57] They found that if estradiol was applied to wounds, they would heal faster because the estrogen in the form of estradiol is about life. [24:49] Once you accept that estrogen is the hormone of life and that when you lose estrogen because your ovaries are now aged out of that, you don't only lose the ability to be fertile and have babies, you lose the ability to properly regulate every organ system in your body. [53:47] If the goal is quality of life and overall body health, then hormones must be given in a way that's physiologic.   Connect with Dr. Felice Gersh: Follow her on Youtube, Instagram Learn more about her and her work on her website Join my Programs Give yourself the gift of wellness with The Balance Bundle! Find out how you can benefit from Stride Funding [Show Summary] Tess Michaels shares what's new at Stride Funding, the innovative educational financing company she founded, and reflects on the impact that her Harvard Business School MBA has had on her impressive success today. Interview with Tess Michaels, Founder and CEO of Stride Funding [Show Notes] Welcome to the 495th episode of Admissions Straight Talk. Thanks for tuning in. I don't usually plug Accepted services on this podcast, but Accepted is having a fantastic special, the last one of 2022, and I would be remiss if I didn't share this news with Admissions Straight Talk's listeners. You can save up to $1,000 on Accepted services between now and November 14th. You premeds looking to next year, now is your opportunity to lock in a package at this very special rate AND start your application early. For those of you with December and January deadlines interested in a few hours of invaluable editing and advising, you too can save. Go to accepted.com, choose the type of service that's best for you, and use coupon code SAVENOW. This special ends November 14th.  I'd like to welcome back to Admissions Straight Talk Tess Michaels, Founder and CEO of Stride Funding. Tess graduated from Penn with a Bachelor's in Applied Science and another Bachelor's from the Wharton School in Global Impact Investing and Operations Management. While at Penn, she founded SOCEANA, a platform to democratize giving and promote corporate volunteerism, which was acquired in 2018. After graduating and being accepted to Harvard's 2+2 program, she worked at Goldman Sachs as an analyst for two years, and then at Vista Equity Partners as a private equity associate. As soon as she arrived at Harvard Business School, she founded Stride Funding, which we're going to learn a lot more about in today's show.  Can you give us an overview of Stride Funding's approach to student financing and how it differs from traditional student loans? [2:20] Absolutely. As you mentioned, I was actually inspired by my own experience as a student when founding Stride. I was part of the 2+2 program at Harvard. I knew I was going to pursue my MBA, and candidly went through the back and forth of the question, “Is it worth it to go back to school?” That sticker price is just so hefty, and I realized a lot of my peers were in the same boat. I was even asking everyone, "If you could solve one thing, what would it be?" and everyone kept saying, "I want to go back to school, but the costs are prohibitive and I have no guarantee around the outcomes."  I became really fascinated with two concepts. One, how do we actually structure products to align incentives and naturally tie into the outcomes that students receive? And secondly, how do we increase access? I found it so backward that despite going to a great school and great program, almost every lender asks for students to have co-signers. In fact, 92% of private loans require a co-signer which really just means being backed up by a wealthy parent or family member who has a clean credit score and can guarantee your loan. To me, that felt like such a backward system because the whole point of going to school is to do better than your family and to create future potential in your growth. I'm happy to walk through the ways that we've addressed this with Stride's products, but that was really where we started. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AkoM2kAG-fM Can you describe Stride Funding's three products? [4:08] We have three products on the market and are continuing to grow our product set. They range on the spectrum of product differentiation and then differentiation on access. Each of our products is non-co-signer based. Anytime you come to Stride, you know that you are going to be evaluated based on your future potential, not your historical background. That's a core belief at Stride. With that being said, we have products that are more traditional,

On Palm Sunday Jesus rode in as king only to die as a criminal. The expectations of his followers are echoed in their shouts of “Save Now” as Jesus rode in on a donkey. But their high expectations were crushed when their hero turned out to be ordinary. Or was he? Jesus exceeded all expectations when he bypassed temporal deliverance for eternal rescue. No one knew that God's plan to enter death for us was the real path to victory. Could it be that some of your own expectations are misguided? How should followers of Jesus deal with unfulfilled or unrealistic expectations? This Sunday we continue “Followship” with a special Palm Sunday edition that will help you navigate your current reality with hope for the future.

The best way to approach your MBA application [Show summary] You have your GPA and test score but how should you approach the actual application? In this episode Linda Abraham, Admissions Straight Talk host, shares Accepted's DARE framework to help you confidently apply to your dream schools.  The essential ingredients that adcoms look for in an application [Show notes] Welcome to the 444th episode of Admissions Straight Talk, Accepted's podcast. Thanks for tuning in.  I decided to do a solo show today, just me and you. Because this is a particularly packed episode, we also have a worksheet for you. You can use it to take notes or use it later independent of the podcast to perhaps jot things down that you remember from the podcast and add to it. You can download your worksheet at accepted.com/444download.  Before we explore today's topic, I want to invite all Admissions Straight Talk listeners to take advantage of a fantastic special that Accepted is offering this week: up to $1,000 off our services purchased by November 19th, which is Friday. The coupon code is SAVENOW. Whatever graduate program you're considering, the time to buy and save is really right now. Go to accepted.com/services to find the right service for you. Get details about the special, and then use the coupon code saved now on this investment in your future. This, our last special of 2021, also relates directly to the topic of today's show, Creating Compelling Round 2 MBA Applications. Now, dear listener, if you're not an MBA applicant, you may still find relevant nuggets in this show, which really is focusing on strategy and maximizing your application. All the examples will be related to MBA applications. I recently delivered a webinar on this topic, and frankly, it was very well received - so well received that I decided to provide much of the content from the webinar here. If you attended the webinar, you're certainly welcome to stay for a review and also for a few tidbits that weren't in the original.  Now, let's start with some basic assumptions: you're dreaming of a career that excites you, you're aspiring to MBA programs that will launch you towards that career, but you face obstacles. You have a problem.  How do you build an application that portrays you at your best and is a perfect match for the schools you're aiming for? How do you move your application reader from your stats to your story? [2:51] I'll tell you, you use a framework that allows you to use your application strategically making the most of every inch of application real estate available to you. That part of the strategy that I'm going to outline is something that is true of every single applicant to any graduate school. Whatever program you are applying to, you want to make the most of every inch of application real estate available to you. So, part of implementing this strategy is going to start right now. You can download the worksheet, if you haven't already, from accepted.com/444download, and use it. My recommendation is to get a pile of little sticky notes and on each one, put an idea for something that you want the schools to know. Talking about business schools, I would focus on achievements, obstacles overcome, leadership examples, teamwork examples, examples of your resilience, initiative, organizational ability, but you only need three for this exercise. Put one idea on each post-it note and then put the post-it note on the part of the worksheet where you feel it most belongs. It's quite possible you might be thinking that some experiences could exemplify leadership and overcoming obstacles and an achievement, that's fine. You can copy the ideas into multiple squares. That's just fine. But at the end of the day, you want to make sure that your application is revealing a multifaceted portrait of you and that you have demonstrated these different qualities. As ideas come to you during the podcast, or as additional ideas come to you later,

Matt ruined the family camping trip. We spend a good long while discussing cannabis, the cannabis industry, and the correlation to the New World Order. (sorry mom) Addison rants about the absence of objective truth in the light of QAnon and Majestic 12, then we’re back with a classic GTST segment – WATERCAST. Then we discuss sexuality, drag queens, slippery slopes and there’s a brief discussion about how unbelievable 109 is! Simply unbelievable! Addison and Matt (mostly Matt) tackles a listener question about zucchinis, squash, canning, pickling, recipes and so on. Shout out to our fantastic group of farmers from the GTST Temple of Unreason. We discussed the Doordash gig economy, Instacart and the silicon valley technocratic utopia and Matt talks about Billie Ellish and Christina Hendricks because he loves celebrities. On Palm Sunday, Jesus enters the congested city of Jerusalem along with thousands upon thousands of other pilgrims, all in town to celebrate Passover, this annual celebration of God's deliverance of the Hebrew people from the hands of their Egyptian oppressors. This was a tense time, especially for the Romans, the Jewish people's current oppressors and overlords. If there was ever going to be a revolt against Roman tyranny, surely it would happen during Passover. So as Jesus enters the city, the people begin crying out "Hosanna", which literally means "Save Now! Deliver Now". This was their rallying call, like chants of "U.S.A." during the Olympics. The people start declaring of Jesus, "Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!" Both of these shouts of praise are shouts of expectation. Both references to Psalm 118:27-27, a messianic psalm looking forward to God's deliverance of his people once more. The crowds believe Jesus is the prophesied and long-awaited Messiah. So why do the crowds' shouts of "Save Now! Deliver now!" on Palm Sunday, turn to shouts of "Crucify Him!" on Good Friday? Well what happens when what you think and hope is going to happen, doesn't happen? That's the question that we all need to wrestle with in the midst of this current storm we are in. I don't think there is a single one of us who doesn't want God to deliver us now, save us now, from this current trouble. We want immediate deliverance. We don't want this crisis to drag on indefinitely. We want to get back to life as usual, the way things were a little over a month ago. We, like the Jewish people 2000 years ago at the time of Jesus, are living under the oppressive regime of a foreign power. Not the power and might of Rome, but the power and might of COVID-19, the power and might of fear. We are desperate for deliverance. We cry out to God, "Hosanna! Save us now! Deliver us now!" We expect God to deliver us on our time, according to our schedules and agendas, and in accordance with how we want him to deliver us. We want our way, not his way. We want our will, not his will. We want our plans, not his plans. After all, we know better, right? 2000 years ago, God had a plan, and it was to save and deliver us from spiritual oppression. It was to save and deliver us from the power of sin, death, Satan, hell itself. It wasn't to save us from the next physical enemy, whether Rome or COVID-19 or whatever comes next. In this fallen, broken, sin-stained world we live in, there will always be another force, another power, that threatens to destroy our lives. Jesus came to save and deliver permanently, not temporarily. This world we live in is not heaven. Lower your expectations. If it were heaven, Jesus wouldn't need to come and rescue us. It is precisely because this world is fallen, broken, sin-stained, that we need to be rescued from it! As we prepare for Good Friday on Friday, and Resurrection Sunday on Sunday, let's take some time to contemplate and consider 2 questions. Question 1: What expectations do you have of God? Write these out. Make a list. Be honest. What is it that you think God owes you? Long life, job security, health, wealth, achievement, accolades, recognition? Once you've written these down, go back and look at each one individually. What's the source of this expectation? Is this from God, and if so what Scripture do you have to back it up? Or is this from my Enemy, whose sole desire is to steal, kill and destroy me? If it's God truth, write TRUTH next to it. If it's Satan's lie, write LIE next to it. Question 2: What are you going to do if God's timing is not your timing? What are you going to do if God's ways are not your ways? What if God's will doesn't match yours? What if God's plans don't match up with yours? In our current circumstances, what if God delays in delivering us and saving us? What if he doesn't rescue us immediately? What if God is up to much more than we can currently see at the moment, like God was up to something much more than anyone could see the week of Palm Sunday through Resurrection Sunday? At the end of the day, at the end of this storm, will we be shouting "Hosanna!, Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!" or will we be shouting "Crucify him!"? Will our faith remain strong, or will we turn our backs on God? This is a tough, but pertinent question. Ultimately, it may come down to the expectations we have of God, and whether they are true or false.

Breath of Life Worship Center's Podcast

As Jesus enters Jerusalem the people lined the street crying Hosanna, which is a cry for the Lord to Save Now. People are in need of a saver and the Lord is passing by; It's your time to cry out to the Lord to Save Now. He is there for you. Jesus our King is passing your way. He may not come the way you expect him but He will never leave you in the situation you're in. It's time to call on the Lord your hope of Salvation

Billionaire lifestyle with Emmitt Muckles - Conversations with conscious entrepreneurs, solopreneurs and life changers

[caption id="attachment_1382" align="aligncenter" width="300"] Debt for Happiness[/caption] We never learn me included, I was financially obese and in debt. the original post Are you financially fat or Obese? 2009 was my financial wake-up call. I was laid off from my job because our economy went to shit in a hand basket. Like many Americans, there was a shift in consciousness concerning ideology concerning the American dream and living. Once you begin to lose "things" "Thought" of as important and find how important they are not. I like many other fellow citizens were living way beyond our income level. Funny thing, I kept asking myself before the 2008 crash, how long could real estate prices continue to rise, and banks keep making refinance loans greater than 100 of collateral. Still, my logic did not deter me from spending five hundred to a thousand dollars more than I was making at my day job. Here are the bills I was paying frequently costing me $5k a month. 1st mortgage Second mortgage Discover card (several thousand dollar balance) Very high balance revolving open credit line. Visa #1 Master card #1 Visa #2 Car payment number 1 Car payment number 2 Cable bill Separate internet bill Daughter's Harp rental(yes full size) Mbna credit card Car insurance for three cars (two drivers in household) Misc bills I can't remember. All told I was drowning in debt. Then I was laid off. All hope was not lost as I had a small business that generated the money outside of my day job to keep us afloat. In addition, my wife worked and had her own bills, WTF was I/we thinking.     The layoff and the temporary reduction of income cause me to pause and rethink my situation. Since 2008 I have managed to turn my life and credit rating g around. I forgot to mention, during my financial reprogramming, just when I was seeing serious financial daylight, my wife and I separated. I was not deterred. Mission Statement I will not have more debt than I can pay off at any given moment of my choosing. There is one exception I had to make, which is housing. For several years I was an apartment dweller until I remarried. The apartment allowed me to control my living expenses for about 5 years. The good news is, because I worked on living for need versus want, I was able to repair my credit, savings, and peace of mind. When I did purchase a new home i received the best interest rate. My interest rate made me gasp, as it was the lowest I've ever experienced. [youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vJfHD7DPl9U] What I learned. Even though everyone and common wisdom may inform us to save your money, the financial temptation is EVERYWHERE! Don't be good rich! rich is looking like you have everything under control materially but owning nothing of value. Being Rich is looking like you have everything under control materially but owning nothing of value. Don't be surprised, doctor, lawyers people who you think have the resources are suffering too. It's all about outside perceptions. Just because someone earns $250,000 annually does not provide financial security, if someone is financially overextended. Money is the new crack! Companies make it easy to take your money in order for us to look wealthy but be functionality poor.  Banks make us functional addicts by issuing credit, and the lessons learned by many in 2008 are starting g to be forgotten. Not me! Live for need and make "wants" rewards for good behavior. I know now, a second reprogramming was required. After paying off my debts and living below my means, what's next. The answer, more of the same. Don't spend it just because you have it to spend. Here is how it's done. Your phone works find you don't need a new one. Your TV still has sound and picture you don't need a 70 inch OLED because it's new. Yep, your car is old but it cheaper to fix it than to buy a new one. Make your much it's healthier than buying processed fast food. Use your library, you would be amazed at how much it saves you. Chose to purchase experiences versus things. Get a bank account not easily accessible and direct deposit minimal 10% of your income. Learn something new to generate an income. (Try to make(profit) $100) a month and save that money. We are programmed in industrialized nations to be financially obese. This is psychological warfare to keep you low. Every day you are told you are not good enough if you don't have the latest item being sold. It's not true. Think of it this way. Do you have a safe home? Do you have enough food? Are you healthy? Are you loved? Do you have clothes to wear? If you can answer yes to these questions, then 99.9 of your needs are set, the rest is extra. The other demon we deal with is boredom. I have had a tendency to spend unnecessarily when I get bored. I live in the middle of nowhere, so I am bored often. This is where I learned to use my mind and begin creating to stave off boredom. So it's time to cut the financial fat and create a financial reserve for the lean times.
