Multidisciplinary artist TRISHES challenges the confines of art and constructs of self by using live looping, visual art and spoken word to delve into our psyches. Her undeniably original songwriting, fleshed out by hip-hop beats and pop hooks, examines human struggle through an anthropological lens to prompt listeners on a journey of self-inquiry. As a musician, the Trinidadian-American has been featured on NPR, Billboard, Rolling Stone India, MTV India, and VH1 India; and she has performed internationally, playing festivals like SXSW, CMW, Women's Redrock Festival, Tune In Tel Aviv, Linda Perry's Rock N Relief, Pyramid Yoga Festival and more. Her visual art has been part of Adidas “Nite Jogger” campaign and she has been nominated for Best Music Video at the South Asian Film Festival two years in a row, including one nomination for her directorial debut on her music video “Gaslight.” Her debut album “The Id” is out now, and this December the artist will give her first TEDx talk at TEDxDelthorneWomen. In This Episode:Join the TRISHES email list at her websiteYou can follow TRISHES on YouTube, Twitter, TikTok, Instagram, and FacebookMusic Big Sunglasses by TRISHESYou can pre-order Andre's book All The White Friends I Couldn't Keep. In this episode of PoPolitickin, we politick with TRISHES. TRISHES is a project by Trinidadian-American Trish Hosein, created to express Freud's constructs of self (the primal, conscious and spiritual) through spoken word, live looping and vocal effects. Her dynamic live show awes audiences as Hosein takes them into her museum-like mind and creates a sonic blanket with her unique sound. In 2019 Hosein was named one of Music Connection Magazine’s Hot 100 Unsigned Live Artists. Hosein's debut multimedia EP "EGO" focuses on the entities that define humanity while addressing the current cultural and political climate. When not working on music, Hosein volunteers with refugees and asylum seekers, studies anthropology, and works on visual art projects like the 2019 Adidas Nite Jogger mural displayed in Los Angeles. What is like to lose a spouse? How have attitudes around death changed over the past decades? In this upbeat but heartfelt episode, Karen and Liz host Liz’s mom and her best friend (both of whom are named Trish!) for a conversation filled with laughter, wisdom, and real talk about end of life attitudes. Liz’s mom explains why she doesn’t fear death and how she feels about her daughter being a funeral director. The other Trish talks about moving on after a loss and wonders what she’ll look like in the next world. Both women tell us what they want for their own farewellings, and what three items they’d pack for the afterlife (hint: shoes and handbags!). A lighting round reveals their feelings about everything from open caskets to telling jokes at funerals and whether it’s cool to play rock and roll music at a farewelling. They share the lesson that life has taught them--to treat yourself well and enjoy the ride!During the conversation, Liz’s mom touches on how she felt when she first learned her daughter wanted to become a funeral director. If you’d like to listen to Liz’s whole story, check out this episode that features her journey toward finding her passion in life...helping others through death. The two Trishes really aren’t into making jewelry out of your loved one’s ashes, but if you’d like to know more about that, visit us at MyFarewelling.com. Trish teaching children this life skill how to float In this episode, we're talking with Trish Muehlstein of Tiny Turtles Swim School and Trish swim lessons. What Trish does is truly magical when it comes to teaching the little ones the life skill that all children need to float. Listen to the full episode to get Trishes story, just click the play button to start. Let me just say this about what she does. I learned the TRUTH about drowning the hard way so you don't have to. I lost my 3-year-old daughter to a drowning, 8 feet in front of a lifeguard. If my daughter had this skill that Trish and others teach, it would have allowed her to be seen #1 and then to have the opportunity to be saved #2. She would be here today and that's the TRUTH! Trish shares her personal passion for how she starts in Northern Virginia as a competitive swimmer that took her to Florida for college and now she is living her dream teaching children how to swim and save themselves. She is also a health and wellness coach and understands the importance of living a healthy life but most importantly the benefits of the water and swimming long term. You don't have to take it from me or my story. However, my podcast is filled with others who share the same story and understand the TRUTH when it comes to this life skill. These lessons just do not swim lessons, they are a life skill that will save your child's life if they were to fall in the pool or an open body of water. Trish shares a story in this episode of a child that was missing on a lake and was found floating over 45 minutes later. That child now walks this earth because of this skill. So make sure to listen to this episode to get the full story About Trish Trish has been teaching children swimming lessons for over 14 years and LOVES every minute of it!! She's an Aquarius and needs to be around the water, it keeps her personally balanced. Trish was on a swim team at age 5 and continued competition swimming until she went away to college. She is a proud mother of 4 beautiful children...who all went through the same swim program when they were babies. So she knows how it feels as a parent to sit on the deck and watch your precious angel go through these swimming lessons. She has many incredible stories of children that have been taught, accidentally falling in the water and then rotating onto their back till their parents could retrieve them safely. She's passionate that EVERY child should receive swimming lessons as soon as they start crawling. It is her way of making a difference and giving a child a life long skill :) Trish believes that swimming builds confidence, body awareness, self-esteem, teaches self-control and patience. Super talented LA based singer/songwriter TRISHES joins me on the Spiritual Spiral Podcast this week. I read about Trish a couple months ago in the LA music blog Buzzbands and I was instantly struck by her voice, the subject matter of her lyrics and her overall creative talent. Although she was born in Boston, she spent her childhood in Trinidad until the age of 7 when she then moved to New Jersey and ultimately ended up in San Diego. We talk about her childhood and what it was like growing up in Trinidad as well as when she realized music was such a big part of her life. She attended the Berklee College of Music and eventually landed in Los Angeles so we talk about why she moved to LA, we chat about social media and some of the social and political issues she's passionate about and we talk about her incredible new EP called EGO. She is planning on releasing a new record early next year and she expects to go on tour on the west coast as well as schedule some dates on the east coast. Be sure to follow her on Spotify and Instagram and as always thanks so much for your continued support and for listening to the show.
In her new album Ego, TRISHES navigates the complexity of our sense of self, and isn't afraid to declare the many ways in which that gets warped in modern society.
If you asked me to imagine my version of a "perfect" album, it would likely be a fusion of philosophical/psychological pondering, critical sociopolitical commentary, and killer beats with seductive vocal melodies that drip like honey. And not long ago, I realized that WTF, SUCH AN ALBUM WAS RECENTLY RELEASED, by the ridiculously multitalented TRISHES, aka Trinidadian native and Californian Trish Hosein. As Trish describes, "Ego explores the structures humanity has created to separate ourselves from the primal self: government, money, language, creativity and self awareness. I'm interested in exploring different relationships, particularly minority relationships, with these themes." In this conversation, we discuss how TRISHES was born out of her own grappling with conflicting internal desires and struggles, and what drew her to exploring topics in her music that most musicians in her genre avoid or sugarcoat. "Ego" is the first part of a planned 3-part series exploring the 3 primary layers of consciousness and sense of self outlined by Freud and many others in varying terms. Keep an eye out this summer for TRISHES' Ego Experience tour, a multidimensional experience that transcends the bounds of what we typically expect of live concerts. After hitting Oklahoma City and Kansas City in the beginning of June, TRISHES will continue to take the Ego Experience to other stops across the country, collaborating with local artists and musicians. After graduating from Berklee with degrees in Songwriting & Music Business, TRISHES began touring the U.S. and abroad mesmerizing audiences with haunting hooks & hip-hop beats through her electro-opera one-woman shows. Hosein’s upcoming multi-media EP “Ego” includes her second single “Money” and emotionally charged “Hydra”. Join Randy, Arnie, Mark & Anita as we deep dive into the mind of TRISHES!
