Adam Sachs, an award-winning culinary journalist and magazine editor, is the brains behind Silversea Cruises' S.A.L.T. (Sea and Land Taste) program. But prior to joining the cruise industry, Sachs graced the masthead of several magazines, from his first gig as a fact-checker for Conde Nast Traveler to his time at GQ and as Editor-in-Chief of Saveur, a food-focused entertainment and culinary travel magazine. Through his written work, he aims to celebrate the culture of the places he's visited — and the people he's met — through the lens of what's on a plate. In this episode of Humans of Travel, the three-time James Beard award-winning writer reflects on his early career as a foodie journalist and some of the most meaningful stories he's written, from an around-the-world trip on a single airline ticket to a New Zealand escapade planned completely by the Kiwis he met along the way. Listeners will also hear Sachs' take on how the food media landscape has changed, and what he predicts for the future of travel and food journalism. And finally, Sachs dives into the ins and outs of Silversea's new S.A.L.T. program, an onboard and onshore deep dive into the culinary culture of a sailing's ports of call. Note: This episode is sponsored by Windstar Cruises. INSIDE THIS EPISODE 01:00 Meet award-winning culinary journalist, Adam Sachs 04:00: Sachs details his early life in Louisville, Ky. and a childhood that didn't include food experimentation. 06:50: Two English teachers helped Sachs develop his love of writing in high school. 14:30: Sachs moves to New York, and his first magazine job was with Conde Nast Traveler as a fact-checker. 16:50: Sachs shares a behind-the-scenes look at two past stories he's written: An around-the-world trip on a single airline ticket, and a trip to New Zealand. 21:50: Sachs reflects on how the food media landscape has changed over the years, and what the future might look like for food and travel journalism.  29:55: Sachs gives listeners a deep-dive on Silversea's new S.A.L.T. project and its components: S.A.L.T. Also learn how a corporate lawyer from London set about only 15 years ago to do the same with Hattingley Valley.A double dose of winemakers in an episode always allows for a fun "peak behind the curtain", listen in the middle of our conversation as Emma and Simon catch up and compare sourcing grapes, learn what they suggest to look for when making a purchase of English wines (other than their own, of course) and more.We ask them to compare and contrast English Sparkling wines to other sparkling wines - most especially Champagne which, of course, is always the first word that comes to mind when thinking of of sparkling wines, and get a wonderful education on the process behind those beautiful bubbles and what makes English Sparkling wines different. The similarities and differences between the two wines we tasted, the Hattingley Classic Reserve and the Ridgeview Cavendish are an  excellent example of how and why we love tasting two wines at once - listen to learn what we think of them and, of course, how many corks we gave each.Wines To Find Podcast,  Finalist in the 12th Annual TASTE AWARDS  in  four categories. -Best Drink or Beverage Program-Best New Series-Best Single Topic Series-Best Food or Drink PodcastWe have been listed in the Top 30 wine podcasts! https://blog.feedspot.com/wine_podcasts/==============Music from https://filmmusic.io "Night In Venice" by Kevin MacLeod (https://incompetech.com) License: CC BY (http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/)

Another fine victory for City. Our 4-0 win away at Newcastle on Sunday means our lead at the top of the Premier League has been extended to three points, after second-placed Liverpool drew 2-2 at Tottenham. It was another fine performance for City, who looked thoroughly comfortable throughout. Once again, the goals were spread around, with Dias, Cancelo, Mahrez and Sterling all getting on the scoresheet. The victory also saw City set two significant English football records. We have registered the most top-flight wins in a calendar year. This was our 34th of 2021, which eclipses the previous record of 33 which Liverpool managed under the great Bob Paisley back in 1982. We now have two more Premier League games – at home to Leicester and away to Brentford – to extend our record further. And it was our 18th away win in the league this year, more than any other top-flight side has managed in the history of English football. Indeed, our 18 wins means we surpass the previous record of 17 set by Bill Nicholson's doubling-winning Tottenham side of 1960-61, widely recognised as one of the finest this country has ever seen. Pep and his team continue to move the dial. After the game, we heard from Pep and Riyad Mahrez, and joining us in the Matchday Live studio were Joleon Lescott and Paul Dickov. Two English greats back to back! How good! This time I've got the great lad Brad Shields on to take me through his story and what a story it is! Brads a player who I felt was playing well enough to be an All Black for about 3 or 4 years back to back, while consistently putting in dominant performances for the Wellington Lions and the Hurricanes. That moment obviously never came, so to see him end up playing International rugby for England was pretty awesome to see and it's interesting to hear how that all happened. Like all professional sports people Shieldsy has had some massive highs, as well as some lows throughout his career, and dealing with the injury that made him unavailable for the RWC was obviously one of those. It was awesome to hear him share how that effected him so honestly and great to hear some advice for anyone else out there battling through it. As you will hear from this episode Shieldsy is a great lad, very inspiring and a good sense of humour. Make sure if you enjoy this episode please share it and extra points if you tag in What a Lad on whatever platform you use. This is an audio version of our YouTube video. This video starts with West Ham's trip to south London to play Crystal Palace in Tuesday's evening kick-off. The Hammers have been in decent form in recent weeks and are now up to 7th and the 5th Round of the FA Cup. Their opponents Palace have just 1 win in their last eight in the league. Game two sees under-fire Steve Bruce lead out Newcastle United against Marcelo Bielsa's Leeds. Neither side are in great form heading into this out and it's going to be a battle for both sides to come out of this tie with a maximum haul of points. Manchester City's attack on the title continues in the outskirts of Birmingham when they visit West Brom's Hawthorns. Pep's side are now up to second in the league and haven't lost a football match in a very long time. Tuesday's action is wrapped up with Arsenal's trip to Southampton, a repeat of Saturday's FA Cup clash. Wednesday starts with Burnley at home to Aston Villa. A battle of the Claret and Blue. Can Villa really challenge for European – or even Champions League – football this season? Then it's Frank Lampard's former club, Chelsea, at home to Wolves. Lampard's sacking was inevitable, but many will be sad to see the former Blues legend leave his post. There's a real battle at the bottom of the table when Fulham make a trip to the south coast to play Graham Potter's Brighton side. Two English managers go head-to-head knowing that this game could prove to be a true six-pointer in the relegation scrap. Leicester City's title challenge will be tested when they go to Goodison Park to play Carlo Ancelotti's Everton. Brendan Rodgers' side are battling across three competitions – and looking good in each – but this could be a true litmus test for their credentials. The final game on Wednesday sees Manchester United at home to Sheffield United. The Red Devils will know maximum points is the only return expected when they play bottom-of-the-table Blades. We've got a cracker on Thursday to bring you. Tottenham Hotspur are at home to Liverpool. What's going on with Jurgen Klopp's Reds? Will the German turn his clubs hopes around, or will Jose pour further misery on Liverpool's poor run of form. You'll all be happy to hear that Eduardo Siles is back! As always, he's joined by football broadcaster and writer Tom Williams to work their way through another busy and hectic Premier League weekend on Matchday 20. This podcast is unlike anything I've done before, I actually combine two lessons, "How Americans do yard work or fall clean up" and "How American Schools deal with fire drills or evacuations." Yard work is never fun for me. It's usually pretty cold because winter is coming. I'd rather be making YouTube lessons for you guys or learning some Italian, but it has to be done or there is an even bigger mess in the spring. School fire drills in the United States have changed recently because of a few violent and unfortunate incidents involving guns. American teachers have several events they have to prepare their students for: fire drills, evacuation drill, and a lockdown. It is important for students and teachers to leave the building calmly, but quickly during a fire drill or school evacuation. If an American school goes into a lockdown, it's important for students and teachers to be silent in the dark. It's a pretty scary thing, even for teachers. 0:00-1:30 Introduction 1:31-7:06 How Americans Do Yard Work 7:07-16:24 How American Schools Do Fire Drills

Hi there! Welcome to Intermission, a spin-off podcast from The Film Stage Show. In a time when arthouse theaters are hurting more than ever and there are a plethora of streaming options at your fingertips, we wanted to introduce new conversations that put a specific focus on the films that are foundational or perhaps overlooked in cinephile culture. Led by yours truly, Michael Snydel (co-host of The Film Stage Show, which will still continue weekly), Intermission is a 1-on-1 supplementary discussion podcast that focuses on one arthouse, foreign, or experimental film per episode as picked by the guest–or by listeners. Our first episode is with The Film Stage contributor, Ryan Swen, who chose François Truffaut's 1971 film, Two English Girls, which is currently available on The Criterion Channel. The second adaptation of Henri-Pierre Roché's novels after Truffaut's seminal Jules and Jim, Two English Girls nonetheless has a starkly different energy than that French New Wave classic–despite some base similarities in plot. There is again a love triangle, but it's been gender-swapped and moved to the early 20th century. A romance between a free-spirited French man and two more cloistered English sisters, the film is a fluid but densely literary love story that's in constant conversation with the expectations of the time period. While the first episode of Intermission is launching wide, future episodes will be shared first with our Patreon community before being posted to The Film Stage Show's main feed. One can also enter our giveaways, get access to our private Slack channel, and support new episodes by becoming a Patreon contributor. For a limited time, all new Patreon supporters will receive a free Blu-ray/DVD. After becoming a contributor, e-mail podcast@thefilmstage.com for an up-to-date list of available films. She had been a front seat passenger in one of the two vehicles that rolled. Her partner Jules was rushed to hospital with serious, life-threatening injuries. While the children were not seriously injured in the crash, Jules' injuries were deemed too serious for her to travel - and faces a lengthy rehabilitation period here in New Zealand.
