https://www.instagram.com/olliebyrd_owlpagoda/https://www.youtube.com/@olliebyrdBioOllie Byrd finally dated the girl he had dreamed of since he was 14. They were together for several years before parting ways. A year after the breakup, Ollie wrote a song about the experience—a quintessential emo narrative. Decades later, he revisited the track, producing it in low-fi with subtle rock guitar elements, and released it as “The Sun Will Bring the Day Again.”The title, which does not appear in the lyrics, reflects a sentiment of optimism, as Ollie explains, “I couldn't bring myself to make it that sad… I thought it would be nice to have at least the title be optimistic.” The song, a reflection on the loss of his first true love, captures a raw, universal theme.“The Sun Will Bring the Day Again” is, in Ollie's words, “about acceptance.” He elaborates, “I had a crush on her since I was 14. She was literally the girl of my dreams. We had four or five years together, but I took it for granted, and of course, there's the level of testosterone motivating a young man to do silly, extremely stupid behaviors.”Having started recording at home in 2004, Ollie has long embraced the low-fi sound. He often draws comparisons to Alex G, a popular artist known for recording at home, with Ollie noting, “Every kid records at home now. Every kid in America has an album.” Ollie plays all the instruments himself and serves as his own producer.Ollie's 2006 album Barrel O' Fun received positive reception, and he toured with a band for several years. However, he realized that the music business, while rewarding, couldn't sustain him long-term. After a period off the radar, Ollie released music in 2012 before taking it down for rework. In 2018, his song “Couple Skate” from Barrel O' Fun went viral on Instagram, prompting him to return to his music career. Although Ollie still enjoys hard rock and over-driven guitars, he has since embraced a more mellow style, drawing inspiration from acoustic artists like Nick Drake and Jeremy Enigk.Reflecting on his growth as a musician, Ollie notes that when he originally wrote “The Sun Will Bring the Day Again,” he had limited compositional skills. However, when recording it years later, he applied the techniques he had honed over the years. He incorporated elements of over-driven guitar inspired by Brian Eno's work on Here Come the Warm Jets to add complexity and texture to the original, simple concept.“The Sun Will Bring the Day Again” remains a deeply personal track for Ollie, infused with raw emotion. It is a testament to both his growth as an artist and the heartache that inspired it. With new music on the horizon, listeners can connect with Ollie Byrd across all platforms for fresh songs, videos, and updates.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/creator-to-creators-with-meosha-bean--4460322/support.

Writing about his childhood in revolutionary Cuba, his lifelong fascination with music, and his collaborations and run-ins with people like Brian Eno, David Gilmour, Robert Wyatt, and more, Manzera reveals his Zelig-like status as one of art-rock's most creatively pivotal figures.  On albums like Brian Eno's Here Come the Warm Jets (celebrating 50 years in 2024) and Quiet Sun's Mainstream, Manzanera's guitars sound otherworldly and overheated; his further work proves as fascinating and it was a real pleasure to have him with us this week on Transmissions.  Aquarium Drunkard is supported by our subscribers.     A few months ago a friend and I were talking about King Crimson & Robert Fripp. He is not as familiar with Fripp's work as I am so I started a playlist of not just Crimson tracks but also other excellent Fripp guitar work with other artists such as Brian Eno, David Bowie, David Sylvian, Hall & Oates(yes, Hall & Oates!) & others.    This week I decided to finally make a mix of some of the tracks. I wasn't sure if or when I'd post it online. Then this morning I see that today, Oct. 19th, is the global premiere of the King Crimson documentary "In The Court Of The Crimson King: King Crimson at 50". What a perfect coincidence!    I guess that makes the decision for me about when to post the mix. So here it is - a collection of some of my favorite Fripp guitar work. In order to keep the length manageable I had to leave out some great tracks like Bowie - Heroes, King Crimson - Lark's Tongue is Aspic, Talking Heads - I Zimbra, Fripp & Eno Heavenly Music Corp. & several others. I think the tracks I settled on cover a wide range and fit together nicely over the 84 minutes of the mix.   If anyone is interested the documentary will be shown in a special streaming event this weekend on Oct. 22nd. Paul Rudolph - The Deviant, The Pink Fairies, Hawkwind & Brian Eno - in conversation with David Eastaugh At the recommendation of his childhood friend Jamie Mandelkau, he relocated to London, England joining the Mick Farren led band The Deviants as a guitarist. After recording their third album and contributing to Twink's Think Pink album, the band and singer parted company during a disastrous tour of the West Coast of North America. Returning to England, the band hooked up with Twink forming The Pink Fairies, signing to Polydor and embarking upon a career centred on Ladbroke Grove, occasionally hooking up with Hawkwind for sets as Pinkwind. Recording two albums, Never Never Land and What a Bunch of Sweeties, Rudolph left immediately after the release of the second album to pursue other ventures, including a stint in Uncle Dog with Carol Grimes. He was invited by Roxy Music producer John Porter in early 1973 to participate in demo sessions for Sparks, before that band had found British musicians (Adrian Fisher, Martin Gordonand Dinky Diamond) for their UK re-launch. It was at the final Uncle Dog gig that he met former Roxy Music musician Brian Eno which would lead to him contributing to four of his albums in between 1973 and 1977, namely Here Come the Warm Jets, Another Green World, Music for Films and Before and After Science. At the same time he became the main musical interpreter for Hawkwind collaborator Robert Calvert, to which Eno also became involved, recording the concept albums Captain Lockheed and the Starfighters and Lucky Leif and the Longships.

Brian Eno is one of my favorites - he makes these fascinating and beautiful albums without any ego or pretentiousness. He is constantly collaborating with others (often using the Oblique Strategies that he introduced on this album) and everyoneplaying seem like they are having so much fun making these records. I also like how Brian Colantuno specifically picked this record “Taking Tiger Mountain (By Strategy)”. It's not the typical pick of “Here Come the Warm Jets”, “Another Green World”, or “Music for Airports” from his catalog, but a record that definitely has lots of great details and amazing songs to discuss. My, my, my! Brian Eno is the producer’s producer, so it only makes sense that Producer Mike would eventually get around to him. Eno is renowned for producing classic albums for U2 and Talking Heads, pioneering and naming the genre of ambient music, and composing the seven seconds that comforted Windows 95 users as they learned how to use the Start button. Today, Mike guides Dan, John, and Rich through Here Come the Warm Jets, Eno’s 1974 solo debut, released shortly after Roxy Music proved too small to house both his ego and Bryan Ferry’s. Warm Jets was composed and produced piecemeal in the studio, which Eno saw as its own instrument, and the result is a taped-together masterpiece filled with overdubs (one song contains 27 tracks of piano). It can take some time for the noisy blur of Warm Jets to coalesce into identifiable, hummable pieces, but we’re hoping to help ease you into the madness. Frank Blank Moriarty/September 9, 2013 Joseph A. Gervasi interviews longstanding member of the Philadelphia underground music community Frank Blank Moriarty. Frank takes his “Frank Blank” name from Brian Eno’s first solo album, Here Come the Warm Jets (1973). Frank grew up a rock kid, seeing Jimi Hendrix from the sixth row while standing on a chair beside a beautiful blonde hippie girl. Throughout the late ’60s and ’70s, Frank saw the greatest bands ever performing live in Philadelphia. In 1977 he heard the Sex Pistols Never Mind the Bollocks LP and fell in love with them and the burgeoning punk scene, especially bands like The Ramones and The Clash, both of whom he saw early on in their careers. Frank tells a great story of meeting The Clash and how that got him playing guitar. From putting on shows at clubs in Philly in the late ’70s and early ’80s to playing with politically charged punk band Informed Sources, Frank was an enthusiastic member of the early DIY scene in this city. In later years, he went on to play and record in many styles of music, including a metal concept album about UFOs. Among many stories that will be of interest to L!F!P! listeners, you will hear Frank talk about two of Philly’s most infamous punk riots: the Black Flag and Dead Kennedys shows. Recently he played guitar on “White Rabbit” during the two Ruin reunion shows. Frank writes non-fiction books about rock music, NASCAR, and other subjects. Frank’s a man of great cheer and vitality, which makes this 91 minutes an absolute pleasure to listen to. As well, Frank gains extra points by not only never adopting the “Year Zero” mentality that some punks put on, but he also admits to loving progressive rock, a favorite form of music of your humble interviewer. (Addendum: Frank has provided some notes on his interview in the blog section of this site. The direct link is here.) Frank Blank Moriarty’s Music Including Informed Sources   The post LOUD! FAST! This is another new kind of mix for the blog. This is an all Eno mix. I came across the Eno tune "Spider & I " in a recently downloaded mix & I was reminded of how much I like Eno's voice. So I thought why not collect some favorite vocal tunes together in one place. For the first half of the mix I alternate between vocal tunes & instrumentals. I thought this might be nice to break things up a bit. About half way through I realized I'd run out of time so I went to all vocals. I love singing along with his songs & it is nice to have some favorites all together. The title comes from Genesis' "Lamb Lies Down on Broadway" album, where Eno is credited with "enosification." Which he described this way..."I would take existing instruments and feed them through various devices to 'weird them up'." I hope you enjoy this Eno mix.....
