On the latest episode of #talkinthrones, Dom & Professor Pat break down this pivotal season 1 episode, the one where everything goes down, You Win or You Die! As is infamously quoted by Cersei Lannister in this episode as to when Ned confronts her. There was a lot to talk about with this episode, with a central theme being how oaths seem to be the makers or breakers of people, specifically within the northerners. Ned confronts Cersei with the truth he's learned and attempts to threaten her with it, only to discover that Robert is severely injured to the point of death by a wild boar. He then attempts to wrest control of the city from Cersei and Joffrey, only to be betrayed by Littlefinger. Jon and Sam take their vows at the wall, while Daenerys attempts to get Khal Drogo to ride west, at least until an assassination attempt is foiled by Jorah. Dom & Pat break down all of this, talk about their focus character of the week, Cersei Lannister, and discuss the similarities and differences between how Ned & Jon are handling business and how they handle oaths differently, among many other topics. Be sure to keep tuning into new episodes of Talkin' Thrones each and every single week, only on the #talkintvpodcast channel! #cerseilannister #lenaheadey #oaths #oathbreaking #nedstark #robbstark #youwinoryoudie #playingthegame #starks #lannisters #joffrey #varys #robertbaratheon #robertdeath #killedbyapig #renly #littlefinger #focuscharacter #whenyouplaythegameofthrones #season1 #season1episode7 #episode7 --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/talkintvpodcastgmailcom/support

How do you make total strangers into patients? How fast can you do it? How can you do it faster? What makes people so interested (or disinterested) in the first place? Maybe you're pretty good. Maybe you're not. But even if you are, you still look for better answers to these questions. And there is a finite answer to end all answers. And, it's IN THIS EPISODE. Tune in now and find out what this process takes and what the mechanics are that EVERYONE, no matter how interested or disinterested MUST go through to GUARANTEE their interest in your Day 1, your Report of Findings and your recommendations. There is one process and it takes what it takes. But, if you know it, it's game over... YOU WIN! Join me for what I am calling the sequel to episode 57 and a follow-up to the "blank slate" I mentioned each prospect has and how to write anything you want on it. Listen now!
There is a subtle difference between Winning and Earning. You Win the lottery. It's a random game of chance. But you Earn the victory when your team beats the opposition. It was your effort and team work. The feeling of Earning is very different to that when you simply Win. A sense of achievement and accomplishment. It's an important distinction to keep in mind when creating your marketing and promotion strategy. You could give your customers a gift based on a Lucky Dip or a Door Prize. They Win. Or, you could award the gift to the customer who shared their best photo of them with your product. They Earn that one. Remember, it's a very different feeling for the customer. They feel far more engaged with your business is they Earn the gift, rather than if they simply Win it. #winning #earned #reward

Msgr. Deutsch- "You Win" by Saint Patrick Parish Homilies
Scripture of the Day: Acts 7:59 “While they were stoning him, Stephen prayed, Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.” Faith Works Have you ever faced an extreme circumstance where you were facing death in the face? I have. My time in the military and a few instances as a police officer, I have faced the prospect of “this could be it.” How do you react in those situations? By FAITH. You see, faith WORKS every single time it is put to the test. Every single time. If you believe you will fail, guess what – you will. If you believe you will persevere – you will. That does not mean you can say over and over, “I believe I win; I believe I win; I believe I win” and then, miraculously, the enemy just dies of a heart attack right before you very eyes. It could happen, but that does not mean that. What I'm talking about is this… In those situations I was describing, I had to rely on my training. I had been trained for those exact situations. I had received the best training available. And the exact situation I was facing at that time, in my mind, though it was real, the training I had received kicked in. That is why the military trains so much! We used to say in the Cavalry, “We train today just as we will fight tomorrow.” We had another saying that “we train to be wet, cold, tired and miserable. And we are experts at it.” Amen! But, when you are facing death in the face, you need to rely on your training. Then, something called, “muscle memory” kicks in. I was trained in martial arts in my military days. That training served me as a police officer a few times. What does that have to do with this scripture of Stephen or you facing a life or death situation? The point I am making is, just as we have been talking about all week, you MUST KNOW the voice of the Holy Spirit concerning the situation you are in. Stephen, sensing, “This is it..” did what he was taught to do. He had heard how Jesus, as He died on the cross, said, “Father, into your hands I commit my Spirit,” simply repeated the same words – but put his total trust and confidence and FAITH in Jesus. Amen! You need to be the same way. You may not be facing a matter of life or death. You may not be facing a physical threat. But if the devil is putting more on you than you anticipated and it may come to something like that – DO NOT LET FEAR TAKE OVER! Amen! Your mantra should be THERE IS NO FEAR HERE. Amen! Then, just trust in your training. Trust in what the Word of God says. Trust in Jesus to either deliver you physically – to deliver you spiritually. Either way – YOU WIN. Praise God! The guys start out their commentary of "You Win or You Die" with a reflection on the now rich Prison Guard Mord and a bit of misinformation. While we were indeed recording video for this episode, there were technical issues and we decided to forego the use of the video for YouTube, so you are welcome for avoiding seeing our faces. Joe introduces Todd to Charles Dance's Tywin Lannister and explains a special skill that Dance had to learn for the episode. Todd is given a refresher on the Lannister Family as a whole. The guys experience the one use of the show title as dialogue and talk about when Cersei gets real with people. They discuss what it would take for this show to get an X rating and Joe explains all the way up to XXX. They uncover the role of class in how people must have smelled in this world and Joe talks about Jack Gleeson and his early exit from acting. They discuss death on HBO shows and Joe rants against pens. They discuss accepting death in a manly way and Joe calls out the Dothraki as flat-earthers. They put themselves in Ned Stark's shoes as he has a tough decision to make. They highlight the Khal Drogo monologue and declare it his coolest moment on the show. DO NOT LISTEN TO THIS PODCAST. As the holidays approach - with the annual added weight - if you've thought '2020 YOU WIN. GIVE ME ALL THE FOOD' please dive in and maybe take notes. From the tone of the emails I had a feeling this would be the kind of episode that COULD go for hours. The Blade's food connoisseur Mary Bilyeu is on. The Blade is EXCEPTIONAL journalism but Mary's food stories are not to be missed. Mexican, Asian, Pizza, bagels, corned beef, unheard of food trucks, recipes for many or one! This is the most delicious podcast episode yet. Put your debit card away. Take the delivery apps off your phone.

Throwbacks: Competition vs Collaboration, Safety and GraceLaura throws back to 2017 As the Wheels Turn columns touching on big topics during the final day of Back to School month. You Win. I Lose. Many of us involved with purebred dogs find purpose, excitement and enjoyment in the heat of competition. The adrenaline rush is part of the passion we bring to the game. Whether it is realized in the whelping box, in the show ring or in competitive performance venues. It becomes ingrained deep in the grooves of our brains…. Winning is good. Losing is bad. That’s fine as far as it goes. But… Sometimes the passion morphs and becomes something altogether different. The “If You Win, I Lose” mindset is the root of many evils in our fancy. It applies to everything from jealousy over another exhibitor’s win to the fiefdoms of kennel clubs. We encounter it in the *expectation* that any friendly overture has an ulterior motive. As a whole and with exceptions in emergencies, we are not a cohesive group. Number one. First. Best. Foremost. Record-setting. These are our golden idols and, too often, we guard them viciously. But that “dog in a manger” attitude serves only to divide and conquer our fancy. How does it hurt you to help someone else? What harm to have two good dogs, ideas or events? What if we celebrate, support and cheer on others who are doing well or doing good? Teach the newbie. Help the youngster. Support someone else who has a good dog, a good idea or an exciting plan. What’s the worst possible thing that could happen? That you wouldn’t be the best? The point of the exercise to challenge ourselves to continue to improve — our breed, our skills, our knowledge. The only way that will happen is if someone comes along with a better mousetrap, as they say, and we have to improve on our design. Ours is a tiny microcosm of the real world. We would do well to remember that making it smaller with petty squabbling does nothing more than weaken our ability to resist outside forces working hard to squash us all like bugs. Anybody read the AVMA proposal about “regulating breeders”? I highly recommend Bill Shelton’s article in the June 6 "Dog News Magazine” for a bit of perspective. Let’s make a conscious decision to see others’ success as the same as our own. Because then, the purebred dog fancy becomes a powerful force for good in the world. When you win, we ALL win takes us to an entirely different level of influence. Whether in legislative matters or in creating an appealing and exciting sport which draws participation and builds our future from within. Winter wonderlandTraveling to winter shows can be a little dicey (heck, in some parts of the country questionable driving weather lasts until May!). Ya’ll down there in Florida, just be careful of the weather envy being directed your way. I can remember driving to the St. Paul, Minn. shows when I lived in Nebraska. Driving on I-80 looking at *hundreds* of cars literally upside down on the side of the road before I decided it was time to pull over and stop somewhere. Or driving home from Chicago and all of the sudden the water on the antenna in the RV wasn’t dripping anymore and the road was freezing around me… In the dog fancy, we sometimes have to make choices. Decisions that should be easy in terms of safety first are often questioned … But, I could win! But, I could starve! But, but, but…. In the Pacific Northwest we don't normally get hammered with the type of weather other parts of the country deal with routinely. Snow, ice, and dangerous roads. Here, sadly, we are often poorly equipped to deal with it… snow plows, de-icer, sand and salt being foreign language in the land where it never (well almost) gets above 80 degrees (F) or below 30… I personally missed out on Palm Springs a few years back due to weather. A good friend (another handler) chose to cancel out on the Puyallup shows rather than fight through sheets of ice on the roads between here and there. As we... Support this podcast

The Song That Changed My Life is a segment that gives us the chance to talk with some of our favorite artists about the music that made them who they are today. This time around, we're joined by a true legend – Huey Lewis. In an era dominated by new wave, glam rock and hair metal Huey Lewis stood out with his bluesy pub-rock. He helped define pop music in the 80's. Huey Lewis and the News had a run of hit singles during the 80's and early 90's. Their most successful album, Sports, was released in 1983. It's one of our favorites here at Bullseye. Huey Lewis explains how Count Basie and Joe Williams' Alright, Okay, You Win helped him visualize his career as a singer. Huey Lewis and the News are back with their first album in nearly a decade. Their latest release Weather is out now.
Love is intoxicating, but dating can be hard. In Jacques Offenbach’s The Tales of Hoffmann, a love-obsessed poet tells fantastical stories of romance gone very, very wrong. Based on the works of 19th-century Gothic horror writer E.T.A. Hoffmann, the opera is a journey through desire and loss – a journey that just might make you feel better about your own dating disasters! In the aria “Ô Dieu! de quelle ivresse,” the poet-protagonist Hoffmann professes his passionate love to the courtesan Giulietta. In this episode, Rhiannon Giddens and her guests explore the intoxicating power of romance, and the magically mysterious world created by both E.T.A. Hoffmann and Offenbach. Tenor Matthew Polenzani sings the aria onstage at the Metropolitan Opera. The Guests Tenor Matthew Polenzani has just wrapped up his 22nd season at the Metropolitan Opera, which is one of many places he’s performed the role of Hoffmann. As a happily married man, he can’t quite relate to the poet’s unending heartbreak, but he does believe that all artists should have a touch of crazy in them. Veronica Chambers is a writer and editor for The New York Times. In 2006, her essay “Loved and Lost? It’s O.K., Especially if You Win” was published in the Modern Love column, detailing her long list of doomed romances. But, like Hoffmann, she kept her heart wide open to the possibility of love. Stage director Beth Greenberg directed The Tales of Hoffmann for New York City Opera back in 1996. She counts Jacques Offenbach among the greatest composers, in part because of his extraordinary sense of satire. She likes to think of him as “the Mel Brooks of the Champs-Élysées.” Francesca Brittan is an Associate Professor of Music at Case Western Reserve University. Her work focuses on 19th- and 20th-century music, and her 2017 book Music and Fantasy in the Age of Berlioz details her fascination with the fantasy genre in literature and in music. She loves exploring the secret worlds imagined by E.T.A. Hoffmann and writers like him.
